We define a motivic analogue of the Haar measure for groups of the form G(k((t))), where k is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and G is a reductive algebraic group defined over k. A classical Haar measure on such groups does not exist since they are not locally compact. We use the theory of motivic integration introduced by M. Kontsevich to define an additive function on a certain natural Boolean algebra of subsets of G(k((t))). This function takes values in the so-called dimensional completion of the Grothendieck ring of the category of varieties over the base field. It is invariant under translations by all elements of G(k((t))), and therefore we call it a motivic analogue of Haar measure. We give an explicit construction of the motivic Haar measure, and then prove that the result is independent of all the choices that are made in the process, even though we have no general uniqueness statement.
For $k$ a perfect field of characteristic $p>0$ and $G/k$ a split reductive group with $p$ a non-torsion prime for $G,$ we compute the mod $p$ motivic cohomology of the geometric classifying space $BG_{(r)}$, where $G_{(r)}$ is the $r$th Frobenius kernel of $G.$ Our main tool is a motivic version of the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence, due to Krishna. For a flat affine group scheme $G/k$ of finite type, we define a cycle class map from the mod $p$ motivic cohomology of the classifying space $BG$ to the mod $p$ étale motivic cohomology of the classifying stack $\mathcal{B}G.$ This also gives …
We study upper bounds, approximations, and limits for functions of motivic exponential class, uniformly in non-Archimedean local fields whose characteristic is $0$ or sufficiently large. Our results together form a flexible framework for doing analysis over local fields in a field-independent way. As corollaries, we obtain many new transfer principles, for example, for local constancy, continuity, and existence of various kinds of limits. Moreover, we show that the Fourier transform of an $L^2$-function of motivic exponential class is again of motivic exponential class. As an application in th…
We give a streamlined proof of ${\mathbb A}^1$-representability for $G$-torsors under "isotropic" reductive groups, extending previous results in this sequence of papers to finite fields. We then analyze a collection of group homomorphisms that yield fiber sequences in ${\mathbb A}^1$-homotopy theory, and identify the final examples of motivic spheres that arise as homogeneous spaces for reductive groups.
The quadric $\operatorname{Q}_{2n}$ is the ${\mathbb Z}$-scheme defined by the equation $\sum_{i=1}^n x_i y_i = z(1-z)$. We show that $\operatorname{Q}_{2n}$ is a homogeneous space for the split reductive group scheme $\operatorname{SO}_{2n+1}$ over ${\mathbb Z}$. The quadric $\operatorname{Q}_{2n}$ is known to have the ${\mathbb A}^1$-homotopy type of a motivic sphere and the identification as a homogeneous space allows us to give a characteristic independent affine representability statement for motivic spheres. This last observation allows us to give characteristic independent comparison re…
Let k be a field. Denote by Spc(k)_* the unstable, pointed motivic homotopy category and by Omega_Gm: Spc(k)_* \to Spc(k)_* the Gm-loops functor. For a k-group G, denote by Gr_G the affine Grassmannian of G. If G is isotropic reductive, we provide a canonical motivic equivalence Omega_Gm G = Gr_G. If k is perfect, we use this to compute the motive M(Omega_Gm G) in DM(k, Z).
Let T be a torus, X a smooth quasi-compact separated scheme equipped with a T-action, and [X/T] the associated quotient stack. Given any localizing A1-homotopy invariant of dg categories E, we prove that the derived completion of E([X/T]) at the augmentation ideal I of the representation ring R(T) of T agrees with the Borel construction associated to the T-action on X. Moreover, for certain localizing A1-homotopy invariants, we extend this result to the case of a linearly reductive group scheme G. As a first application, we obtain an alternative proof of Krishna's completion theorem in algebra…
For a split reductive group G over a finite field, we show that the intersection (cohomology) motive of the moduli stack of iterated G-shtukas with bounded modification and level structure is defined independently of the standard conjectures on motivic t-structures on triangulated categories of motives. This is in accordance with general expectations on the independence of l in the Langlands correspondence for function fields.
