We study the Lusztig-Vogan bijection for the case of a local system. We compute the bijection explicitly in type A for a local system and then show that the dominant weights obtained for different local systems on the same orbit are related in a manner made precise in the paper. We also give a conjecture (putatively valid for all groups) detailing how the weighted Dynkin diagram for a nilpotent orbit in the dual Lie algebra should arise under the bijection.
In this paper we study gradings on simple Lie algebras arising from nilpotent elements. Specifically, we investigate abelian subalgebras which are degree 1 homogeneous with respect to these gradings. We show that for each odd nilpotent element there always exists canonically associated "strictly" odd nilpotent element, which allows us to reduce our investigations to the latter.
Let D(e) denote the weighted Dynkin diagram of a nilpotent element $e$ in complex simple Lie algebra $\g$. We say that D(e) is divisible if D(e)/2 is again a weighted Dynkin diagram. (That is, a necessary condition for divisibility is that $e$ is even.) The corresponding pair of nilpotent orbits is said to be friendly. In this note, we classify the friendly pairs and describe some of their properties. We also observe that any subalgebra sl(3) in $\g$ determines a friendly pair. Such pairs are called A2-pairs. It turns out that the centraliser of the lower orbit in an A2-pair has some remarkabl…
Let $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}\oplus\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{1}}$ be a finite-dimensional simple Lie superalgebra of type $D(2,1;α)$, $G(3)$ or $F(4)$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $G$ be the simply connected semisimple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$ such that $\mathrm{Lie}(G)=\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$. Suppose $e\in\mathfrak{g}_{\bar{0}}$ is nilpotent. We describe the centralizer $\mathfrak{g}^{e}$ of $e$ in $\mathfrak{g}$ and its centre $\mathfrak{z}(\mathfrak{g}^{e})$ especially. We also determine the labelled Dynkin diagram for $e$. We prove theorems relating the dimension of $\left(\mathfra…
Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group with Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$. For a nilpotent $G$-orbit $\mathcal O\subset\mathfrak g$, let $d_\mathcal O$ denote the maximal dimension of a subspace $V\subset \mathfrak g$ that is contained in the closure of $\mathcal O$. In this note, we prove that $d_\mathcal O \le \frac{1}{2}\dim\mathcal O$ and this upper bound is attained if and only if $\mathcal O$ is a Richardson orbit. Furthermore, if $V$ is $B$-stable and $\dim V= \frac{1}{2}\dim\mathcal O$, then $V$ is the nilradical of a polarisation of $\mathcal O$. Every nilpotent orbit closure has a disti…
We associate to each nilpotent orbit of a real semisimple Lie algebra $g_o$ a weighted Vogan diagram, that is a Dynkin diagram with an involution of the diagram, a subset of painted nodes and a weight for each node. Every nilpotent element of $g_o$ is noticed in some subalgebra of $g_o$. In this paper we characterize the weighted Vogan diagrams associated to orbits of noticed nilpotent elements.
Let us fix a complex simple Lie algebra and its non-compact real form. This paper focuses on non-zero adjoint nilpotent orbits in the complex simple Lie algebra meeting the real form. We show that the poset consisting of such nilpotent orbits equipped with the closure ordering has the minimum. Furthermore, we determine such the minimum orbit in terms of the Dynkin--Kostant classification even in the cases where the orbit does not coincide with the minimal nilpotent orbit in the complex simple Lie algebra. We also prove that the intersection of the orbit and the real form is the union of all mi…
We formulate and prove that there are "abundant" in nilpotent orbits in real semisimple Lie algebras, in the following sense. If S denotes the collection of hyperbolic elements corresponding the weighted Dynkin diagrams coming from nilpotent orbits, then S span the maximally expected space, namely, the (-1)-eigenspace of the longest Weyl group element. The result is used to the study of fundamental groups of non-Riemannian locally symmetric spaces.
For a semisimple Lie algebra over the complex numbers, Dynkin (1952) developed an algorithm to classify the regular semisimple subalgebras, up to conjugacy by the inner automorphism group. For a graded semisimple Lie algebra over the complex numbers, Vinberg (1979) showed that a classification of a certain type of regular subalgebras (called carrier algebras) yields a classification of the nilpotent orbits in a homogeneous component of that Lie algebra. Here we consider these problems for (graded) semisimple Lie algebras over the real numbers. First, we describe an algorithm to classify the re…
Let Q be a Dynkin quiver, and let P(Q) be the corresponding preprojective algebra. Let I be a set of pairwise different indecomposable irreducible components of varieties of P(Q)-modules such that generically there are no extensions between these components. We show that the number of elements in I is at most the number of positive roots of Q. Furthermore, we give a module theoretic interpretation of Leclerc's counterexample to a conjecture of Berenstein and Zelevinsky.
Let $σ$ be an involution of a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ and $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak g_0\oplus\mathfrak g_1$ the related $\mathbb Z_2$-grading. We study relations between nilpotent $G_0$-orbits in $\mathfrak g_0$ and the respective $G$-orbits in $\mathfrak g$. If $e\in\mathfrak g_0$ is nilpotent and $\{e,h,f\}\subset\mathfrak g_0$ is an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple, then the semisimple element $h$ yields a $\mathbb Z$-grading of $\mathfrak g$. Our main tool is the combined $\mathbb Z\times\mathbb Z_2$-grading of $\mathfrak g$, which is called a mixed grading. We prove, in particul…
We consider the space of nilpotent Higgs bundles on a weighted projective line, as a global analog of the nilpotent cone. We show that it is pure, compute its dimension, and define geometric correspondences between irreducible components. We prove it by constructing a loop analog of a cristal, in the spirit of Kashiwara and Saito, for some corresponding loop Kac-Moody algebra.
Let $Q$ be a finite type quiver i.e. ADE Dynkin quiver. Denote by $Λ$ its preprojective algebra. It is known that there are finitely many indecomposable $Λ$-modules if and only if $Q$ is of type $A_1,A_2,A_3,A_4$. In this paper, extending Lusztig's construction of $U\frak{n}_+$, we study an algebra generated by these indecomposable submodules. It turns out that it forms the universal enveloping algebra of some nilpotent Lie algebra inside the function algebra on Lusztig's nilpotent scheme. The defining relations of the corresponding nilpotent Lie algebra for type $A_1, A_2,A_3,A_4$ are given h…
Recently, V.Ginzburg introduced and studied in depth the notion of a principal nilpotent pair in a semisimple Lie algebra \g. Our aim is to contribute to the general theory of nilpotent pairs. Roughly speaking, a nilpotent pair (e_1,e_2) consists of two commuting elements in \g that can independently be contracted to the origin. A principal nilpotent pair is a double counterpart of a regular nilpotent element. Consequently, the theory of nilpotent pairs should stand out as double counterpart of the theory of nilpotent orbits. We show that any nilpotent pair has a characteristic (h_1,h_2), whic…
Let $\mathfrak{n}$ be a locally nilpotent infinite-dimensional Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. Let $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and $\mathrm{S}(\mathfrak{n})$ be its universal enveloping algebra and its symmetric algebra respectively. Consider the Jacobson topology on the primitive spectrum of $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and the Poisson topology on the primitive Poisson spectrum of $\mathrm{S}(\mathfrak{n})$. We provide a homeomorphism between the corresponding topological spaces (on the level of points, it gives a bijection between the primitive ideals of $\mathrm{U}(\mathfrak{n})$ and $\mathrm{S…
We show a surprising link between singularity theory and the invariant subspace problem of nilpotent operators as recently studied by C. M. Ringel and M. Schmidmeier, a problem with a longstanding history going back to G. Birkhoff. The link is established via weighted projective lines and (stable) categories of vector bundles on those. The setup yields a new approach to attack the subspace problem. In particular, we deduce the main results of Ringel and Schmidmeier for nilpotency degree p from properties of the category of vector bundles on the weighted projective line of weight type (2,3,p), …
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of any characteristic except 2, and let $G = \GL_n(k)$ be the general linear group, regarded as an algebraic group over $k$. Using an algebro-geometric argument and Dynkin-Kostant theory for $G$ we begin by obtaining a canonical form for nilpotent $\Ad(G)$-orbits in $\glł_n(k)$ which is symmetric with respect to the non-main diagonal (i.e. it is fixed by the map $f : (x_{i,j})\mapsto (x_{n+1-j,n+1-i})$), with entries in $\{0,1\}$. We then show how to modify this form slightly in order to satisfy a non-degenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric bilinear form…
In 2003, Fomin and Zelevinsky proved that finite type cluster algebras can be classified by Dynkin diagrams. Then in 2013, Barot and Marsh defined the presentation of a reflection group associated to a Dynkin diagram in terms of an edge-weighted, oriented graph, and proved that this group is invariant (up to isomorphism) under diagram mutations. In this paper, we extend Barot and Marsh's results to Artin group presentations, defining new generator relations and showing mutation-invariance for these presentations.
The strong Macdonald theorems state that, for $L$ reductive and $s$ an odd variable, the cohomology algebras $H^*(L[z]/z^N)$ and $H^*(L[z,s])$ are freely generated, and describe the cohomological, $s$-, and $z$-degrees of the generators. The resulting identity for the $z$-weighted Euler characteristic is equivalent to Macdonald's constant term identity for a finite root system. We calculate $H^*(\mathfrak{p} / z^N \mathfrak{p})$ and $H^*(\mathfrak{p}[s])$ for $\mathfrak{p}$ a standard parahoric in a twisted loop algebra, giving strong Macdonald theorems that take into account both a parabolic …
