We introduce an intrinsic notion of Hoelder-Zygmund regularity for Colombeau generalized functions. In case of embedded distributions belonging to some Zygmund-Hoelder space this is shown to be consistent. The definition is motivated by the well-known use of Littlewood-Paley decomposition in characterizing Hoelder-Zygmund regularity for distributions. It is based on a simple interplay of differentiated convolution-mollification with wavelet transforms, which directly translates wavelet estimates into properties of the regularizations. Thus we obtain a scale of new subspaces of the Colombeau algebra. We investigate their basic properties and indicate first applications to differential equations whose coefficients are non-smooth but belong to some Hoelder-Zygmund class (distributional or generalized). In applications problems of this kind occur, for example, in seismology when Earth's geological properties of fractal nature have to be taken into account while the initial data typically involve strong singularities.
H{ö}lder regularity of parabolic equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and application to reaction-diffusion and reaction-cross-diffusion systems
We study here a new generalization of Caffarelli, Kohn and Nirenberg's partial regularity theory for weak solutions of the MHD equations. Indeed, in this framework some hypotheses on the pressure P are usually asked (for example P $\in$ L q t L 1 x with q > 1) and then local H{ö}lder regularity, in time and space variables, for weak solutions can be obtained over small neighborhoods. By introducing the notion of dissipative solutions, we weaken the hypothesis on the pressure (we will only assume that P $\in$ D) and we will obtain H{ö}lder regularity in the space variable for weak solutions.
We show that local weak solutions to parabolic systems of p-Laplace type are H{ö}lder continuous in time with values in a spatial Lebesgue space and H{ö}lder continuous on almost every time line. We provide an elementary and self-contained proof building on the local higher integrability result of Kinnunen and Lewis.

We prove fine higher regularity results of Calderón-Zygmund-type for equations involving nonlocal operators modelled on the fractional $p$-Laplacian with possibly discontinuous coefficients of VMO-type. We accomplish this by establishing precise pointwise bounds in terms of certain fractional sharp maximal functions. This approach is new already in the linear setting and enables us to deduce sharp regularity results also in borderline cases.
We consider non-linear elliptic equations having a measure in the right hand side, of the type $ \divo a(x,Du)=μ, $ and prove differentiability and integrability results for solutions. New estimates in Marcinkiewicz spaces are also given, and the impact of the measure datum density properties on the regularity of solutions is analyzed in order to build a suitable Calderón-Zygmund theory for the problem. All the regularity results presented in this paper are provided together with explicit local a priori estimates.
In global seismology Earth's properties of fractal nature occur. Zygmund classes appear as the most appropriate and systematic way to measure this local fractality. For the purpose of seismic wave propagation, we model the Earth's properties as Colombeau generalized functions. In one spatial dimension, we have a precise characterization of Zygmund regularity in Colombeau algebras. This is made possible via a relation between mollifiers and wavelets.
We prove the local Lipschitz continuity and the higher differentiability of local minimizers of integral functionals with non autonomous integrand which is degenerate convex with respect to the gradient variable. The main novelty here is that the results are obtained assuming that the coefficients have weak derivative in an almost critical Zygmund class and the datum f is assumed to belong to the same Zygmund class.
This paper studies the Sobolev regularity estimates for weak solutions of a class of degenerate, and singular quasi-linear elliptic problems of the form $\text{div}[\mathbf{A}(x,u, \nabla u)]= \text{div}[\mathbf{F}]$ with non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions over bounded non-smooth domains. The coefficients $\mathbf{A}$ could be be singular, and degenerate or both in $x$ in the sense that they behave like some weight function $μ$, which is in the $A_2$ class of Muckenhoupt weights. Global and interior weighted $W^{1,p}(Ω, ω)$-regularity estimates are established for weak solutions of …
The incompressible Micropolar system is given by two coupled equations: the first equation gives the evolution of the velocity field u while the second equation gives the evolution of the microrotation field $ω$. In this article we will consider regularity problems for weak solutions of this system. For this we will introduce the new notion of partial suitable solutions, which imposes a specific behavior for the velocity field u only, and under some classical hypotheses over the pressure, we will obtain a h{ö}lderian gain for both variables u and $ω$.
Nirenberg's famous complex Frobenius theorem gives necessary and sufficient conditions on a locally integrable structure for when the manifold is locally diffeomorphic to $\mathbb R^r\times\mathbb C^m\times \mathbb R^{N-r-2m}$ through a coordinate chart $F$ in such a way that the structure is locally spanned by $F^*\frac\partial{\partial t^1},\dots,F^*\frac\partial{\partial t^r},F^*\frac\partial{\partial z^1},\dots,F^*\frac\partial{\partial z^m}$, where we have given $\mathbb R^r\times\mathbb C^m \times\mathbb R^{N-r-2m}$ coordinates $(t,z,s)$. In this paper, we give the optimal Hölder-Zygmund…
We prove a radial source estimate in Hölder-Zygmund spaces for uniformly hyperbolic dynamics (also known as Anosov flows), in the spirit of Dyatlov-Zworski. The main consequence is a new linear stability estimate for the marked length spectrum rigidity conjecture, also known as the Burns-Katok conjecture. We show in particular that in any dimension $\geq 2$, in the space of negatively-curved metrics, $C^{3+\varepsilon}$-close metrics with same marked length spectrum are isometric. This improves recent works of Guillarmou-Knieper and the second author. As a byproduct, this approach also allows …
We consider the maximal regularity problem for non-autonomous evolution equations of the form $u(t) + A(t) u(t) = f(t)$ with initial data $u(0) = u\_0$ . Each operator $A(t)$ is associated with a sesquilinear form $a(t; *, *)$ on a Hilbert space $H$ . We assume that these forms all have the same domain and satisfy some regularity assumption with respect to t (e.g., piecewise $α$-H{ö}lder continuous for some $α\textgreater{} 1/2$). We prove maximal Lp-regularity for all initial values in the real-interpolation space $(H, D(A(0)))\_{1/p,p}$ . The particular case where $p = 2$ improves previously…
This paper establishes global weighted Calderón-Zygmund type regularity estimates for weak solutions of a class of generalized Stokes systems in divergence form. The focus of the paper is on the case that the coefficients in the divergence-form Stokes operator consist of symmetric and skew-symmetric parts, which are both discontinuous. Moreover, the skew-symmetric part is not required to be bounded and therefore it could be singular. Sufficient conditions on the coefficients are provided to ensure the global weighted $W^{1,p}$-regularity estimates for weak solutions of the systems. As a direct…
The goal of this paper is to study the effect of the Hardy potential on the existence and summability of solutions to a class of nonlocal elliptic problems $$ \left\{\begin{array}{rcll} (-Δ)^s u-λ\dfrac{u}{|x|^{2s}}&=&f(x,u) &\hbox{ in } Ω,\\ u&=&0 &\hbox{ in } \mathbb{R}^N\setminusΩ,\\ u&>&0 &\hbox{ in }Ω, \end{array}\right. $$ where $(-Δ)^s$, $s\in(0,1)$, is the fractional laplacian operator, $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary such that $0\inΩ$ and $N>2s$. We will mainly consider the solvability in two cases: 1) The linear problem, that is, $f(x,t)=f(x)$, whe…
The aim of this paper is to establish an abstract theory based on the so-called fractional-maximal distribution functions (FMDs). From the rough ideas introduced in~\cite{AM2007}, we develop and prove some abstract results related to the level-set inequalities and norm-comparisons by using the language of such FMDs. Particularly interesting is the applicability of our approach that has been shown in regularity and Calderón-Zygmund type estimates. In this paper, due to our research experience, we will establish global regularity estimates for two types of general quasilinear problems (problems …
This article provides techniques of raising the regularity of fractional order equations and resolves fundamental questions on the one-dimensional homogeneous boundary-value problem of skewed (double-sided) fractional diffusion advection reaction equation (FDARE) with variable coefficients on the bounded interval. The existence of the true (classical) solution together with norm estimation is established and the precise regularity bound is found; also, the structure of the solution is unraveled, capturing the essence of regularity, singularity, and other features of the solution. The key analy…
This paper is a survey of some recent results on the validity and the failure of global $W^{2,p}$ regularity properties of smooth solutions of the Poisson equation $Δu = f$ on a complete Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$. We review different methods developed to obtain a-priori $L^p$-Hessian estimates of the form $\| \Hess(u) \|_{L^p} \leq C_1 \| u \|_{L^p} + C_2 \| f \|_{L^p}$ under various geometric conditions on $M$ both in the case of real valued functions and for manifold valued maps. We also present explicit and somewhat implicit counterexamples showing that, in general, this integral inequali…
Let $u(t,x)$ be the solution to the Cauchy problem of a scalar conservation law in one space dimension. It is well known that even for smooth initial data the solution can become discontinuous in finite time and global entropy weak solution can best lie in the space of bounded total variations. It is impossible that the solutions belong to ,for example ,$H^1$ because by Sobolev embedding theorem $H^1$ functions are H$\mathrm{\ddot{o}}$lder continuous. However, we note that from any point $(t,x)$ we can draw a generalized characteristic downward which meets the initial axis at $y=α(t,x)$. if we…
We prove boundedness of Calderón-Zygmund operators acting in Banach functions spaces on domains, defined by the $L_1$ Carleson functional and $L_q$ ($1<q<\infty$) Whitney averages. For such bounds to hold, we assume that the operator maps towards the boundary of the domain. We obtain the Carleson estimates by proving a pointwise domination of the operator, by sparse operators with a causal structure. The work is motivated by maximal regularity estimates for elliptic PDEs and is related to one-sided weighted estimates for singular integrals.
We prove a regularity result for Green's functions that are associated to elliptic second order divergence-type linear PDO's with coefficients in C^{1,α}(\barΩ). Here α\in (0,1) and Ω\subset \R^n is a bounded C^{2,α} domain in dimension n\ge 3. The regularity result gives boundary estimates for derivatives up to order (2+α) and, by using these estimates, we extend the associated Green's operator to a globally defined singular integral which of Calderón--Zygmund type.
We show how Hölder estimates for Feller semigroups can be used to obtain regularity results for solutions to the Poisson equation $Af=g$ associated with the (extended) infinitesimal generator $A$ of a Feller process. The regularity of $f$ is described in terms of Hölder-Zygmund spaces of variable order and, moreover, we establish Schauder estimates. Since Hölder estimates for Feller semigroups have been intensively studied in the last years, our results apply to a wide class of Feller processes, e.g. random time changes of Lévy processes and solutions to Lévy-driven stochastic differential equ…
We study interior $L^p$-regularity theory, also known as Calderon-Zygmund theory, of the equation \[ \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \frac{K(x,y)\ (u(x)-u(y))\, (φ(x)-φ(y))}{|x-y|^{n+2s}}\, dx\, dy = \langle f, φ\rangle \quad φ\in C_c^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n). \] For $s \in (0,1)$, $t \in [s,2s]$, $p \in [2,\infty)$, $K$ an elliptic, symmetric, Hölder continuous kernel, if $f \in \left (H^{t,p'}_{00}(Ω)\right )^\ast$, then the solution $u$ belongs to $H^{2s-t,p}_{loc}(Ω)$ as long as $2s-t < 1$. The increase in differentiability is independent of the Hölder coefficient of $K$. For example, …
In this paper we characterize the discrete Hölder spaces by means of the heat and Poisson semigroups associated to the discrete Laplacian. These characterizations allow us to get regularity properties of fractional powers of the discrete Laplacian and the Bessel potentials along these spaces and also in the discrete Zygmund spaces in a more direct way than using the pointwise definition of the spaces. To obtain our results, it has been crucial to get boundedness properties of the heat and Poisson kernels and their derivatives in both space and time variables. We believe that these estimates ar…
