Using depth of coherent sheaves on noetherian algebraic stacks, we construct non-Azumaya maximal orders in unramified central simple algebras over schemes of dimension at least $3$.
In this note, we introduce the notion of an unramified strongly cyclic covering for a cyclic curve, a class that has similar properties to, and contains, unramified double covers of hyperelliptic curves. We determine several of their basic properties, extending the theorems in \cite{MR2217998} to this larger class. We classify all the surfaces with p_g = q = 0 which admit an unramified covering which is isomorphic to a product of curves. Beyond the trivial case \PP^1 x \PP^1 we find 17 families which we explicitly describe.
