Let $F$ be a differential field with algebraically closed field of constants $C$. We prove that $F< Y_{ij}>(X_{ij})\supset F< Y_{ij}>$ is a generic Picard-Vessiot extension of $F$ for $\GL$. If $E\supset F$ is any Picard-Vessiot extension with differential Galois group $\GL$ then $E\cong F(X_{ij})$ as $F$- and $\GL$-modules and there are $f_{ij}\in F$ such that $F< Y_{ij}>(X_{ij})\supset F< Y_{ij}>$ specializes to $E\supset F$ via $ Y_{ij}\mapsto f_{ij}$. The $[f_{ij}]\in M_n(F)$ for which the image of the map $ Y_{ij}\mapsto f_{ij}$ is a Picard-Vessiot extension of $F$ with group $\GL$ can be characterized as those $[f_{ij}]\in M_n(F)$ for which the wronskians of the monomials in $F< Y_{ij}>(X_{ij})$ of degree less than or equal to $k$ all map to non-zero elements under $ Y_{ij}\mapstof_{ij}$.
A Galois correspondence theorem is proved for the case of inverse semigroups acting orthogonally on commutative rings as a consequence of the Galois correspondence theorem for groupoid actions. To this end, we use a classic result of inverse semigroup theory that establishes a one-to-one correspondence between inverse semigroups and inductive groupoids.
In this article we construct the inverse semigroup of equivalence classes of partial Galois abelian extensions of a commutative ring R with same group G, called the Harrison partial inverse semigroup.
In this manuscript, we apply patching methods to give a positive answer to the inverse differential Galois problem over function fields over Laurent series fields of characteristic zero. More precisely, we show that any linear algebraic group (i.e. affine group scheme of finite type) over such a Laurent series field does occur as the differential Galois group of a linear differential equation with coefficients in any such function field (of one or several variables).
This article is concerned with Galois theory for iterative differential fields (ID-fields) in positive characteristic. More precisely, we consider purely inseparable Picard-Vessiot extensions, because these are the ones having an infinitesimal group scheme as iterative differential Galois group. In this article we prove a necessary and sufficient condition to decide whether an infinitesimal group scheme occurs as Galois group scheme of a Picard-Vessiot extension over a given ID-field or not. In particular, this solves the inverse ID-Galois problem for infinitesimal group schemes.
As a simple corollary of a highly general framework for differential and difference Galois theory introduced by Y. Andre, we formulate a version of the Galois correspondence that applies over a difference field with arbitrary field of constants.
We show that a semi-commutative Galois extension of a unital associative algebra can be endowed with the structure of a graded q-differential algebra. We study the first and higher order noncommutative differential calculus of semi-commutative Galois extension induced by the graded q-differential algebra. As an example we consider the quaternions which can be viewed as the semi-commutative Galois extension of complex numbers.
Let $G$ be one of the classical groups of Lie rank $l$. We make a similar construction of a general extension field in differential Galois theory for $G$ as E. Noether did in classical Galois theory for finite groups. More precisely, we build a differential field $E$ of differential transcendence degree $l$ over the constants on which the group $G$ acts and show that it is a Picard-Vessiot extension of the field of invariants $E^G$. The field $E^G$ is differentially generated by $l$ differential polynomials which are differentially algebraically independent over the constants. They are the coe…
We develop a Galois theory for linear differential equations equipped with the action of an endomorphism. This theory is aimed at studying the difference algebraic relations among the solutions of a linear differential equation. The Galois groups here are linear difference algebraic groups, i.e., matrix groups defined by algebraic difference equations.
We are considering iterative derivations on the function field L of abelian schemes in positive characteristic p>0, and give conditions when the torsion group schemes of this abelian scheme occur as ID-automorphism groups, i.e. are the ID-Galois groups of L over certain ID-subfields. For an explicit example, we even give a construction of (a family of) such iterative derivations.
We study the relation between the Galois group $G$ of a linear difference-differential system and two classes $\mathcal{C}_1$ and $\mathcal{C}_2$ of groups that are the Galois groups of the specializations of the linear difference equation and the linear differential equation in this system respectively. We show that almost all groups in $\mathcal{C}_1\cup \mathcal{C}_2$ are algebraic subgroups of $G$, and there is a nonempty subset of $\mathcal{C}_1$ and a nonempty subset of $\mathcal{C}_2$ such that $G$ is the product of any pair of groups from these two subsets. These results have potential…
Let $G$ be a classical group of dimension $d$ and let $\boldsymbol{a}=(a_1,\dots,a_d)$ be differential indeterminates over a differential field $F$ of characteristic zero with algebraically closed field of constants $C$. Further let $A(\boldsymbol{a})$ be a generic element in the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}(F\langle \boldsymbol{a} \rangle)$ of $G$ obtained from parametrizing a basis of $\mathfrak{g}$ with the indeterminates $\boldsymbol{a}$. It is known (cf. work by Juan) that the differential Galois group of $\boldsymbol{y}'=A(\boldsymbol{a})\boldsymbol{y}$ over $F\langle \boldsymbol{a} \rangle…
In this survey we present the parameterized Galois theory of difference equations, as introduced by Hardouin-Singer. The purpose of this theory is to give a systematic approach to differential transcendence, also called hypertranscendence. As an example of the applications, we explain the Galoisian proof of Hölder's theorem on the differential transcendence of the Gamma function.
In this paper, we establish Galois theory for partial differential systems defined over formally real differential fields with a real closed field of constants and over formally $p$-adic differential fields with a $p$-adically closed field of constants. For an integrable partial differential system defined over such a field, we prove that there exists a formally real (resp. formally $p$-adic) Picard-Vessiot extension. Moreover, we obtain a uniqueness result for this Picard-Vessiot extension. We give an adequate definition of the Galois differential group and obtain a Galois fundamental theorem…
In Picard-Vessiot theory, the Galois theory for linear differential equations, the Picard-Vessiot ring plays an important role, since it is the Picard-Vessiot ring which is a torsor (principal homogeneous space) for the Galois group (scheme). Like fields are simple rings having only (0) and (1) as ideals, the Picard-Vessiot ring is a differentially simple ring, i.e. a differential ring having only (0) and (1) as differential ideals. Having in mind that the classical Galois theory is a theory of extensions of fields, i.e. of simple rings, it is quite natural to ask whether one can also set up a…
We introduce the notion of differential torsors, which allows the adaptation of constructions from algebraic geometry to differential Galois theory. Using these differential torsors, we set up a general framework for applying patching techniques in differential Galois theory over fields of characteristic zero. We show that patching holds over function fields over the complex numbers. As the main application, we prove the solvability of all differential embedding problems over complex function fields, thereby providing new insight on the structure of the absolute differential Galois group, i.e.…
This paper proves that if $E$ is a field, such that the Galois group $\mathcal{G}(E(p)/E)$ of the maximal $p$-extension $E(p)/E$ is a Demushkin group of finite rank $r(p)_{E} \ge 3$, for some prime number $p$, then $\mathcal{G}(E(p)/E)$ does not possess nontrivial proper decomposition groups. When $r(p)_{E} = 2$, it describes the decomposition groups of $\mathcal{G}(E(p)/E)$. The paper shows that if $(K, v)$ is a $p$-Henselian valued field with $r(p)_{K} \in \mathbb N$ and a residue field of characteristic $p$, then $P \cong \widetilde P$ or $P$ is presentable as a semidirect product $\mathbb …
In this article we revisit the theory of homotopic Hopf-Galois extensions introduced in arXiv:0902.3393v2 [math.AT], in light of the homotopical Morita theory of comodules established in arXiv:1411.6517 [math.AT]. We generalize the theory to a relative framework, which we believe is new even in the classical context and which is essential for treating the Hopf-Galois correspondence in forthcoming work of the second author and Karpova. We study in detail homotopic Hopf-Galois extensions of differential graded algebras over a commutative ring, for which we establish a descent-type characterizati…
We extend and apply the Galois theory of linear differential equations equipped with the action of an endomorphism. The Galois groups in this Galois theory are difference algebraic groups and we use structure theorems for these groups to characterize the possible difference algebraic relations among solutions of linear differential equations. This yields tools to show that certain special functions are difference transcendent. One of our main results is a characterization of discrete integrability of linear differential equations with almost simple usual Galois group, based on a structure theo…
