Nongraded infinite-dimensional Lie algebras appeared naturally in the theory of Hamiltonian operators, the theory of vertex algebras and their multi-variable analogues. They play important roles in mathematical physics. This survey article is written based on the author's seminar talks on nongraded infinite-dimensional simple Lie algebras. The key constructional ingredients of our Lie algebras are locally-finite derivations. The structure spaces of some families of these simple Lie algebras can be viewed as analogues of vector bundles with Lie algebras as fibers. We also believe that some of our simple Lie algebras could be related to noncommutative geometry.
Divergence-free Lie algebras are originated from the Lie algebras of volume-preserving transformation groups. Xu constructed a certain nongraded generalization, which may not contain any toral Cartan subalgebra. In this paper, we give a complete classification of the generalized weight modules over these algebras with weight multiplicities less than or equal to one.
A class of nongraded Hamiltonian Lie algebras was earlier introduced by Xu. These Lie algebras have a Poisson bracket structure. In this paper, the isomorphism classes of these Lie algebras are determined by employing a ``sandwich'' method and by studying some features of these Lie algebras. It is obtained that two Hamiltonian Lie algebras are isomorphic if and only if their corresponding Poisson algebras are isomorphic. Furthermore, the derivation algebras and the second cohomology groups are determined.
In a paper by Xu, some simple Lie algebras of generalized Cartan type were constructed, using the mixtures of grading operators and down-grading operators. Among them, are the simple Lie algebras of generalized Witt type, which are in general nongraded and have no torus. In this paper, some representations of these simple Lie algebras of generalized Witt type are presented.
We classify open maximal subalgebras of all infinite-dimensional linearly compact simple Lie superalgebras. This is applied to the classification of infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of vector fields, acting transitively and primitively in a formal neighborhood of a point of a finite-dimensional supermanifold.
A new class of infinite dimensional simple Lie algebras over a field with characteristic 0 are constructed. These are examples of non-graded Lie algebras. The isomorphism classes of these Lie algebras are determined. The structure space of these algebras is given explicitly.
We propose a definition of multiplier infinitesimal bialgebra and a definition of derivator Lie bialgebra. We give some examples of these structures and prove that every bibalanced multiplier infinitesimal bialgebra gives rise to a multiplier Lie bialgebra.
We describe the group of continuous automorphisms of all simple infinite-dimensional linearly compact Lie superalgebras and use it in order to classify F-forms of these superalgebras over any field F of characteristic zero.
In this paper, we give a unified construction of vertex algebras arising from infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, including the affine Kac-Moody algebras, Virasoro algebras, Heisenberg algebras and their higher rank analogs, orbifolds and deformations. We define a notion of what we call quasi vertex Lie algebra to unify these Lie algebras. Starting from any (maximal) quasi vertex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we construct a corresponding vertex Lie algebra ${\mathfrak{g}}_0$, and establish a canonical isomorphism between the category of restricted $\mathfrak{g}$-modules and that of equivariant $ϕ…
We construct and study various dual pairs between finite dimensional classical Lie groups and infinite dimensional Lie algebras in some Fock representations. The infinite dimensional Lie algebras here can be either a completed infinite rank affine Lie algebra, the $\winf$ algebra or its certain Lie subalgebras. We give a formulation in the framework of vertex algebras. We also formulate several conjectures and open problems.
We introduce the categories of infinitesimal Hopf modules and bimodules over an infinitesimal bialgebra. We show that they correspond to modules and bimodules over the infinitesimal version of the double. We show that there is a natural, but non-obvious way to construct a pre-Lie algebra from an arbitrary infinitesimal bialgebra and a dendriform algebra from a quasitriangular infinitesimal bialgebra. As consequences, we obtain a pre-Lie structure on the space of paths on an arbitrary quiver, and a striking dendriform structure on the space of endomorphisms of an arbitrary infinitesimal bialgeb…
We classify the quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules over the infinite rank Lie superalgebras $\hgltwo$, $\hC$ and $\hD$, and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for quasi-finite irreducible highest weight modules to be unitarizable with respect to natural $\ast$-structures of the Lie superalgebras. The unitarizable irreducible modules are constructed in terms of Fock spaces of free quantum fields, and explicit formulae for their formal characters are also obtained by investigating Howe dualities between the infinite rank Lie superalgebras and classical Lie groups.
We begin the study of the representation theory of the infinite Temperley-Lieb algebra. We fully classify its finite dimensional representations, then introduce infinite link state representations and classify when they are irreducible or indecomposable. We also define a construction of projective indecomposable representations for $TL_{n}$ that generalizes to give extensions of $TL_{\infty}$ representations. Finally we define a generalization of the spin chain representation and conjecture a generalization of Schur-Weyl duality.
The Lie algebra of Feynman graphs gives rise to two natural representations, acting as derivations on the commutative Hopf algebra of Feynman graphs, by creating or eliminating subgraphs. Insertions and eliminations do not commute, but rather establish a larger Lie algebra of derivations which we here determine.
We study in detail the semi-infinite or BRST cohomology of general affine Lie algebras. This cohomology is relevant in the BRST approach to gauged WZNW models. We prove the existence of an infinite sequence of elements in the cohomology for non-zero ghost numbers. This will imply that the BRST approach to topological WZNW model admits many more states than a conventional coset construction. This conclusion also applies to some non-topological models. Our work will also contain results on the structure of Verma modules over affine Lie algebras. In particular, we generalize the results of Verma …
We show that in the presence of suitable commutator estimates, a projective unitary representation of the Lie algebra of a connected and simply connected Lie group G exponentiates to G. Our proof does not assume G to be finite--dimensional or of Banach-Lie type and therefore encompasses the diffeomorphism groups of compact manifolds. We obtain as corollaries short proofs of Goodman and Wallach's results on the integration of positive energy representations of loop groups and Diff(S^{1}) and of Nelson's criterion for the exponentiation of unitary representations of finite-dimensional Lie algebr…
We use the Thom-Whitney construction to show that infinitesimal deformations of a coherent sheaf F are controlled by the differential graded Lie algebra of global sections of an acyclic resolution of the sheaf End(E), where E is any locally free resolution of F. In particular, one recovers the well known fact that the tangent space to deformations of F is Ext^1(F,F), and obstructions are contained in Ext^2(F,F). The main tool is the identification of the deformation functor associated with the Thom-Whitney DGLA of a semicosimplicial DGLA whose cohomology is concentrated in nonnegative degrees …
We introduce braided Lie bialgebras as the infinitesimal version of braided groups. They are Lie algebras and Lie coalgebras with the coboundary of the Lie cobracket an infinitesimal braiding. We provide theorems of transmutation, Lie biproduct, bosonisation and double-bosonisation relating braided Lie bialgebras to usual Lie bialgebras. Among the results, the kernel of any split projection of Lie bialgebras is a braided-Lie bialgebra. The Kirillov-Kostant Lie cobracket provides a natural braided-Lie bialgebra on any complex simple Lie algebra $g$, as the transmutation of the Drinfeld-Sklyanin…
We construct a flat (and fake-flat) 2-connection in the configuration space of $n$ indistinguishable particles in the complex plane, which categorifies the $sl(2,C)$-Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection obtained from the adjoint representation of $sl(2,C)$. This will be done by considering the adjoint categorical representation of the string Lie 2-algebra and the notion of an infinitesimal 2-Yang-Baxter operator in a differential crossed module. Specifically, we find an infinitesimal 2-Yang-Baxter operator in the string Lie 2-algebra, proving that any (strict) categorical representation of the st…
