Let $\cal M$ be a semi-finite von Neumann algebra equipped with a distinguished faithful, normal, semi-finite trace $τ$. We introduce the notion of equi-integrability in non-commutative spaces and show that if a rearrangement invariant quasi-Banach function space $E$ on the positive semi-axis is $α$-convex with constant 1 and satisfies a non-trivial lower $q$-estimate with constant 1, then the corresponding non-commutative space of measurable operators $E({\cal M}, τ)$ has the following property: every bounded sequence in $E({\cal M}, τ)$ has a subsequence that splits into a $E$-equi-integrable sequence and a sequence with pairwise disjoint projection supports. This result extends the well known Kadec-Pełczyński subsequence decomposition for Banach lattices to non-commutative spaces. As applications, we prove that for $1\leq p <\infty$, every subspace of $L^p(\cal M, τ)$ either contains almost isometric copies of $\ell^p$ or is strongly embedded in $L^p(\cal M, τ)$.
We provide explicit commutative sequence space representations for classical function and distribution spaces on the real half-line. This is done by evaluating at the Fourier transforms of the elements of an orthonormal wavelet basis.
An elegant but elementary result of Wolff from 1921, when interpreted in terms of Banach algebras, shows that it is possible to find a sequence of distinct characters $ϕ_n$ on the disc algebra and an $\ell_1$ sequence of complex numbers $λ_n$, not all zero, such that $\sum_{n=1}^\infty λ_n ϕ_n =0.$ We observe that, even for general commutative, unital Banach algebras, this is not possible if the closure of the countable set of characters has no perfect subsets.
The paper deal with the noncommutative Fréchet ${}^*$-algebra $\mathcal{L}(s',s)$ of the so-called smooth operators, i.e. linear and continuous operators acting from the space $s'$ of slowly increasing sequences to the Fréchet space $s$ of rapidly decreasing sequences. By a canonical identification, this algebra of smooth operators can be also seen as the algebra of the rapidly decreasing matrices. We give a full description of closed commutative ${}^*$-subalgebras of this algebra and we show that every closed subspace of $s$ with basis is isomorphic (as a Fréchet space) to some closed commuta…
In this short note, we answer two questions about Gurariy spaces asked in the literature in the affirmative. We also prove the analogue of one of the results for the noncommutative Guariy space.
A connected homogeneous space X=G/K is called commutative if G is a connected Lie group, $K$ is a compact subgroup and the B*-algebra L^1(X)^K of K-invariant integrable function on X is commutative. In this article we introduce the space L^2_A (X) of A-bandlimited function on X by using the spectral decomposition of L^2 (X). We show that those spaces are reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and determine the reproducing kernel. We then prove sampling results for those spaces using the smoothness of the elements in L^2_A (X). At the end we discuss the example of R^d, the spheres S^d, compact symme…
We give an elementary proof of a monotone selection principle which allows to pass from increasing nets to increasing sequences in the Hermitian part of a $σ$-finite von Neumann algebra. This is to be seen as a ``monotone version'' of first countability.
A Banach space is said to have the ball-covering property (abbreviated BCP) if its unit sphere can be covered by countably many closed, or equivalently, open balls off the origin. Let $K$ be a locally compact Hausdorff space and $X$ be a Banach space. In this paper, we give a topological characterization of BCP, that is, the continuous function space $C_0(K)$ has the (uniform) BCP if and only if $K$ has a countable $π$-basis. Moreover, we give the stability theorem: the vector-valued continuous function space $C_0(K,X)$ has the (strong or uniform) BCP if and only if $K$ has a countable $π$-bas…
We investigate various notions of peaking behaviour for states on a $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra, where the peaking occurs within an operator system. We pay particularly close attention to the existence of sequences of elements forming an approximation of the characteristic function of a point in the state space. We exploit such characteristic sequences to localize the $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebra at a given state, and use this localization procedure to verify a variation of Arveson's hyperrigidity conjecture for arbitrary operator systems.
For three standard models of commutative algebras generated by Toeplitz operators in the weighted analytic Bergman space on the unit disk, we find their representations as the algebras of bounded functions of certain unbounded self-adjoint operators. We discuss main properties of these representation and, especially, describe relations between properties of the spectral function of Toeplitz operators in the spectral representation and properties of the symbols.
We introduce the notion of a regular mapping on a non-commutative $L_p$-space associated to a hyperfinite von Neumann algebra for $1\le p\le \infty$. This is a non-commutative generalization of the notion of regular or order bounded map on a Banach lattice. This extension is based on our recent paper [P3], where we introduce and study a non-commutative version of vector valued $L_p$-spaces. In the extreme cases $p=1$ and $p=\infty$, our regular operators reduce to the completely bounded ones and the regular norm coincides with the $cb$-norm. We prove that a mapping is regular iff it is a linea…
The generalized Young inequality on the Lorentz spaces for commutative hypergroups is introdused and an application of it is given to the theory of fractional integrals. The boundedness on the Lorentz space and the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev theorem for the fractional integrals on the commutative hypergroups is proved.
By the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev theorem the classical Riesz potential is bounded on Lebesgue spaces. E. Nakai and H. Sumitomo [16] extended that theorem to the Orlicz spaces. We introduce generalized potential operators on commutative hypergroups and under some assumptions on the kernel we showed the boundedness of these operators from Lebesgue space into certain Orlicz space. Our result is an analogue of Theorem 1.3 in [16].
Let $\M$ be a semi-finite von Neumann algebra equipped with a faithful normal trace $τ$. We study the subspace structures of non-commutative Lorentz spaces $L_{p,q}(\M, τ)$, extending results of Carothers and Dilworth to the non-commutative settings. In particular, we show that, under natural conditions on indices, $\ell_p$ can not be embedded into $L_{p,q}(\M, τ)$. As applications, we prove that for $0<p<\infty$ with $p \neq 2$ then $\ell_p$ cannot be strongly embedded into $L_p(\M,τ)$. Thus providing a non-commutative extension of a result of Kalton for $0<p<1$ and a result of Rosenthal for …
We investigate the class of continuous images of non-commutative Valdivia compact spaces, in particular its subclass of weakly non-commutative Cor- son countably compact spaces. A key tool is the study of non-commutative Corson countably compact spaces and their stability. The results are the non- commutative version of results by O. Kalenda (2003). Moreover, we present a study of retractional skeletons on Aleksandrov duplicates of ordinal spaces.
Boundedness and compactness properties of multiplication operators on quantum (non-commutative) function spaces are investigated. For endomorphic multiplication operators these properties can be characterized in the setting of quantum symmetric spaces. For non-endomorphic multiplication operators these properties can be completely characterized in the setting of quantum $L^p$-spaces and a partial solution obtained in the more general setting of quantum Orlicz spaces.
In this paper we investigate the conditional expectation on the non-commutative $H^{(r,s)}_{p}(\mathcal A;\ell_{\infty})$ and $H_{p}(\mathcal A;\ell_{1})$ spaces associated with semifinite subdiagonal algebra, and prove the contractibility of the underlying conditional expectation on these spaces.
We give a proof of the Khintchine inequalities in non-commutative $L_p$-spaces for all $0< p<1$. These new inequalities are valid for the Rademacher functions or Gaussian random variables, but also for more general sequences, e.g. for the analogues of such random variables in free probability. We also prove a factorization for operators from a Hilbert space to a non commutative $L_p$-space, which is new for $0<p<1$. We end by showing that Mazur maps are Hölder on semifinite von Neumann algebras. The main tool is a new form of Hölder inequality for non commutative Lp spaces with weights.
In this paper, we introduce a non-commutative space of stochastic distributions, which contains the non-commutative white noise space, and forms, together with a natural multiplication, a topological algebra. A special inequality which holds in this space allows to characterize its invertible elements and to develop an appropriate framework of non-commutative stochastic linear systems.
We characterize the non-commutative Aleksandrov--Clark measures and the minimal realization formulas of contractive and, in particular, isometric non-commutative rational multipliers of the Fock space. Here, the full Fock space over $\mathbb{C} ^d$ is defined as the Hilbert space of square--summable power series in several non-commuting formal variables, and we interpret this space as the non-commutative and multi-variable analogue of the Hardy space of square--summable Taylor series in the complex unit disk. We further obtain analogues of several classical results in Aleksandrov--Clark measur…
In this paper, we investigate the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function on non-commutative symmetric spaces. We complete the results of T. Bekjan and J. Shao. Moreover, we refine the main results of the papers \cite{Bek} and \cite{Sh}.
We show that the validity of the non-commutative Khintchine inequality for some $q$ with $1<q<2$ implies its validity (with another constant) for all $1\le p<q$. We prove this for the inequality involving the Rademacher functions, but also for more general "lacunary" sequences, or even non-commutative analogues of the Rademacher functions. For instance, we may apply it to the "Z(2)-sequences" previously considered by Harcharras. The result appears to be new in that case. It implies that the space $\ell^n_1$ contains (as an operator space) a large subspace uniformly isomorphic (as an operator s…
We present and study commutative Banach algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with generalized quasi-radial pseudo-homogeneous symbols acting on the Bergman space over the unit ball. We develop the Gelfand theory of these algebras and give some structural information about them. In particular, we provide a description of the radical of these algebras. This paper generalizes and completes the results from previous works related to Toeplitz operators with quasi-radial quasi-homogeneous symbols.
In this paper we characterize surjective isometries on certain classes of non-commutative spaces associated with semi-finite von Neumann algebras: the Lorentz spaces $L^{w,1}$, as well as the spaces $L^1+L^\infty$ and $L^1\cap L^\infty$. The technique used in all three cases relies on characterizations of the extreme points of the unit balls of these spaces. Of particular interest is that the representations of isometries obtained in this paper are global representations.
We show that the multiplier algebra of the Fourier algebra on a locally compact group $G$ can be isometrically represented on a direct sum on non-commutative $L^p$ spaces associated to the right von Neumann algebra of $G$. If these spaces are given their canonical Operator space structure, then we get a completely isometric representation of the completely bounded multiplier algebra. We make a careful study of the non-commutative $L^p$ spaces we construct, and show that they are completely isometric to those considered recently by Forrest, Lee and Samei; we improve a result about module homomo…
We present a self-contained and comprehensive study of the Fisher-Rao space of matrix-valued non-commutative probability measures, and of the related Hellinger space. Our non-commutative Fisher-Rao space is a natural generalization of the classical commutative Fisher-Rao space of probability measures and of the Bures-Wasserstein space of Hermitian positive-definite matrices. We introduce and justify a canonical entropy on the non-commutative Fisher-Rao space, which differs from the von Neumann entropy. We consequently derive the analogues of the heat flow, of the Fisher information, and of the…
