In this paper we use the concept of wavelet sets as introduced by X. Dai and D. Larson, to decompose the wavelet representation of the discrete group associated to an arbitrary $n \times n$ integer dilation matrix as a direct integral of irreducible monomial representations. In so doing we generalize a result of F. Martin and A. Valette in which they show that the wavelet representation is weakly equivalent to the regular representation for the Baumslag-Solitar groups.
We study embeddings between generalised Besov-Morrey spaces. Both sufficient and necessary conditions for the embeddings are proved. Embeddings of the Besov-Morrey spaces into the Lebesgue spaces are also considered. Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of the spaces which we establish for the system of Daubechies wavelets.
Battle-Lemarie wavelet systems of natural orders are established in the paper. The main result of the work is decomposition theorem in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with local Muckenhoupt weights, which is performed in terms of bases generated by the systems of such a type. Battle-Lemarie wavelets are splines and suit very well for the study of integration operators.
We study a decomposition problem for a class of unitary representations associated with wavelet analysis, wavelet representations, but our framework is wider and has applications to multi-scale expansions arising in dynamical systems theory for non-invertible endomorphisms. Our main results offer a direct integral decomposition for the general wavelet representation, and we solve a question posed by Judith Packer. This entails a direct integral decomposition of the general wavelet representation. We further give a detailed analysis of the measures contributing to the decomposition into irreduc…
Spaces of harmonic functions in upper half-space with controlled growth near the boundary are described in terms of multiresolution approximations. The results are applied to prove the law of the iterated logarithm for the oscillation of harmonic functions along vertical lines.
This article describes how the ideas promoted by the fundamental papers published by M. Frazier and B. Jawerth in the eighties have influenced subsequent developments related to the theory of atomic decompositions and Banach frames for function spaces such as the modulation spaces and Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Both of these classes of spaces arise as special cases of two different, general constructions of function spaces: coorbit spaces and decomposition spaces. Coorbit spaces are defined by imposing certain decay conditions on the so-called voice transform of the function/distribution u…
A rather tricky question is the construction of wavelet bases on domains for suitable function spaces (Sobolev, Besov, Triebel-Lizorkin type). In his monograph from 2008, Triebel presented an approach how to construct wavelet (Riesz) bases in function spaces of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin type on cellular domains, in particular on the cube. However, he had to exclude essential exceptional values of the smoothness parameter $s$, for instance the theorems do not cover the Sobolev space W_2^1(Q) on the n-dimensional cube Q for n at least 2. Triebel also gave an idea how to deal with those exceptio…
We use Cramér-Chernoff type estimates in order to study the Calderón-Zygmund structure of the kernels $\sum_{I\in\mathcal{D}}a_I(ω)ψ_I(x)ψ_I(y)$ where $a_I$ are subgaussian independent random variables and $\{ψ_I: I\in\mathcal{D}\}$ is a wavelet basis where $\mathcal{D}$ are the dyadic intervals in $\mathbb{R}$. We consider both, the cases of standard smooth wavelets and the case of the Haar wavelet.
We establish wavelet characterizations of homogeneous Besov spaces on stratified Lie groups, both in terms of continuous and discrete wavelet systems. We first introduce a notion of homogeneous Besov space $\dot{B}_{p,q}^s$ in terms of a Littlewood-Paley-type decomposition, in analogy to the well-known characterization of the Euclidean case. Such decompositions can be defined via the spectral measure of a suitably chosen sub-Laplacian. We prove that the scale of Besov spaces is independent of the precise choice of Littlewood-Paley decomposition. In particular, different sub-Laplacians yield th…
In this paper we show that the Fourier transform induces an isomorphism between the coorbit spaces defined by Feichtinger and Gröchenig of the mixed, weighted Lebesgue spaces $L_{v}^{p,q}$ with respect to the quasi-regular representation of a semi-direct product $\mathbb{R}^{d}\rtimes H$ with suitably chosen dilation group $H$, and certain decomposition spaces $\mathcal{D}\left(\mathcal{Q},L^{p},\ell_{u}^{q}\right)$ (essentially as introduced by Feichtinger and Gröbner), where the localized ,,parts`` of a function are measured in the $\mathcal{F}L^{p}$-norm. This equivalence is useful in sever…
This paper is concerned with the study of Besov-type decomposition spaces, which are scales of spaces associated to suitably defined coverings of the euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$, or suitable open subsets thereof. A fundamental problem in this domain, that is currently not well understood, is deciding when two different coverings give rise to the same scale of decomposition spaces. In this paper, we establish a coarse geometric approach to this problem, and show how it specializes for the case of wavelet coorbit spaces associated to a particular class of matrix groups $H < GL(\mathbb{R}^d)$ …
The aim of this article is to give a complete solution to the problem of the bilinear decompositions of the products of some Hardy spaces $H^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ and their duals in the case when $p<1$ and near to $1$, via wavelets, paraproducts and the theory of bilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators. Precisely, the authors establish the bilinear decompositions of the product spaces $H^p(\mathbb{R}^n)\times\dotΛ_α (\mathbb{R}^n)$ and $H^p(\mathbb{R}^n)\timesΛ_α(\mathbb{R}^n)$, where, for all $p\in(\frac{n}{n+1},\,1)$ and $α:=n(\frac{1}{p}-1)$, $H^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ denotes the classical real Hardy spac…
In this paper we extend the atomic decompositions previously obtained for Besov spaces related to the forward light cone to general symmetric cones. We do so via wavelet theory adapted to the cone. The wavelet transforms sets up an isomorphism between the Besov spaces and certain reproducing kernel function spaces on the group, and sampling of the transformed data will provide the atomic decompositions and frames for the Besov spaces.
Let $d\geq 1$ be a natural number and $A_0$ be a $d\times d$ expansive integral matrix with determinant $\pm 2.$ Then $A_0$ is integrally similar to an integral matrix $A$ with certain additional properties. A finite solution to the system of equations associated with the matrix $A$ will result in an iterated sequence $\{Ψ^k χ_{[0,1)^d}\}$ that converges to a function $φ_A$ in $L^2(\R^d)$-norm. With this (scaling) function $φ_A,$ we will construct the Parseval's wavelet function $ψ$ with compact support associated with matrix $A_0.$
The wavelet group and wavelet representation associated with shifts coming from a two dimensional crystal symmetry group $Γ$ and dilations by powers of 3, are defined and studied. The main result is an explicit decomposition of the $3Γ-$wavelet representation into irreducible representations of the wavelet group.
We characterize the lack of compactness in the critical embedding of functions spaces $X\subset Y$ having similar scaling properties in the following terms : a sequence $(u_n)_{n\geq 0}$ bounded in $X$ has a subsequence that can be expressed as a finite sum of translations and dilations of functions $(ϕ_l)_{l>0}$ such that the remainder converges to zero in $Y$ as the number of functions in the sum and $n$ tend to $+\infty$. Such a decomposition was established by Gérard for the embedding of the homogeneous Sobolev space $X=\dot H^s$ into the $Y=L^p$ in $d$ dimensions with $0<s=d/2-d/p$, and t…
We provide explicit criteria for wavelets to give rise to frames and atomic decompositions in ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, but also in more general Banach function spaces. We consider wavelet systems that arise by translating and dilating the mother wavelet, with the dilations taken from a suitable subgroup of ${\rm GL}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, the so-called {\em dilation group}.The paper provides a unified approach that is applicable to a wide range of dilation groups, thus giving rise to new atomic decompositions for homogeneous Besov spaces in arbitrary dimensions, but also for other function spaces s…
In this paper we propose and study a family of continuous wavelets on general domains, and a corresponding stochastic discretization that we call Monte Carlo wavelets. First, using tools from the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and associated integral operators, we define a family of continuous wavelets by spectral calculus. Then, we propose a stochastic discretization based on Monte Carlo estimates of integral operators. Using concentration of measure results, we establish the convergence of such a discretization and derive convergence rates under natural regularity assumptions.
The question of existence is treated for near-minimizers for the distance functional (or $E$-functional in the interpolation terminology) that are stable under the action of certain operators. In particular, stable near-minimizers for the couple $(L^1, L^p)$ are shown to exist when the operator is the projection on wavelets and these wavelets possess only some weak conditions of decay at infinity.
For appropriate orthonormal wavelet basis $\{ψ_{j\,k}^e \}_{j\in\mathbb{Z}\,k\in\mathbb{Z}^d\,e\in\{0,1\}^d}$, constants $p$ and $γ$, if $\mathcal{I}_γ$ denotes the Riesz fractional integral operator of order $γ$ and $(η_{j\,k\,e})_{j\in\mathbb{Z} k\in\mathbb{Z}^d \,e\in\{0,1\}^d}$ a sequence of independent identically distributed symmetric $p$-stable random variables, we investigate the convergence of the series $\sum\limits_{j\,k\,e} η_{j\,k\,e} \mathcal{I}_γ ψ_{j\,k\,}^e$. Similar results are also studied for modified fractional integral operators. Finally, some geometric properties related…
We prove that the unitary affine Radon transform intertwines the quasi-regular representation of a class of semidirect products, built by shearlet dilation groups and translations, and the tensor product of a standard wavelet representation with a wavelet-like representation. This yields a formula for shearlet coefficients that involves only integral transforms applied to the affine Radon transform of the signal, thereby opening new perspectives in the inversion of the Radon transform.
This paper presents a full catalogue, up to conjugacy and subgroups of finite index, of all matrix groups $H < {\rm GL}(3,\mathbb{R})$ that give rise to a continuous wavelet transform with associated irreducible quasi-regular representation. For each group in this class, coorbit theory allows to consistently define spaces of sparse signals, and to construct atomic decompositions converging simultaneously in a whole range of these spaces. As an application of the classification, we investigate the existence of compactly supported admissible vectors and atoms for the groups.

We propose a 2D generalization to the $M$-band case of the dual-tree decomposition structure (initially proposed by N. Kingsbury and further investigated by I. Selesnick) based on a Hilbert pair of wavelets. We particularly address (\textit{i}) the construction of the dual basis and (\textit{ii}) the resulting directional analysis. We also revisit the necessary pre-processing stage in the $M$-band case. While several reconstructions are possible because of the redundancy of the representation, we propose a new optimal signal reconstruction technique, which minimizes potential estimation errors…
