Segre varieties, CR geometry and Lie symmetries of second order PDE systems

We show that biholomorphic automorphisms of a real analytic CR manifold can be considered as (pointwise) Lie symmetries of a holomorphic second order PDE system defining its Segre family. This allows to use general methods of the geometric PDE theory in order to study the CR geometry of real analytic manifolds.

Extremal discs and Segre varieties for real-analytic hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^2$

We show that if the Segre varieties of a strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface in $\mathbb{C}^2$ are extremal discs for the Kobayashi metric, then that hypersurface has to be locally spherical. In particular, this gives yet another characterization of the unit sphere in terms of two important invariant families of objects coinciding.

Segre varieties and Lie symmetries

Using the classical S.Lie method we obtain a complete description of infinitesimal symmetries of a holomorphic PDE system defining the Segre family of a real analytic hypersurface. This gives a new proof of some well known results of CR geometry.

Projection on Segre varieties and determination of holomorphic mappings between real submanifolds

It is shown that a germ of a holomorphic mapping sending a real-analytic generic submanifold of finite type into another is determined by its projection on the Segre variety of the target manifold. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a germ of a mapping into the Segre variety of the target manifold to be the projection of a holomorphic mapping sending the source manifold into the target. An application to the biholomorphic equivalence problem is also given.

Vector field construction of Segre sets

A CR generic real analytic CR manifold M carries two families of Segre varieties and conjugate Segre varieties. We observe in this article that their complexifications give rise to two families of foliations of the complexification of M which coincide with the flow foliations induced by the complexified CR (1,0) and (0,1) vector fields tangent to M. As an application, we derive a new proof of the characterization of finite type in terms of Segre sets.

Dynamics of the Segre varieties of a real submanifold in complex space

Iterated Segre mappings of real analytic generic submanifolds in complex space have been an essential tool in the study of holomorphic, formal, and CR mappings between such manifolds. In this paper we present a theory of iterated Segre mappings for smooth or formal submanifolds. In particular, we characterize finite type in terms of the rank of the iterated Segre mappings. The approach given here is new, simplifies proofs, and extends results previously known for the real analytic case.

Inversion formulas for complex Radon transform on projective varieties and boundary value problems for systems of linear PDE

Let $G\subset \C P^n$ be a linearly convex compact with smooth boundary, $D={\C}P^n\setminus G$, and let $D^* \subset (\C P^n)^*$ be the dual domain. Then for an algebraic, not necessarily reduced, complete intersection subvariety $V$ of dimension $d$ we construct an explicit inversion formula for the complex Radon transform $R_V:\ H^{d,d-1}(V\cap D)\to H^{1,0}(D^*)$, and explicit formulas for solutions of an appropriate boundary value problem for the corresponding system of differential equations with constant coefficients on $D^*$.

Sphericity of a real hypersurface via projective geometry

In this work, we obtain an unexpected geometric characterization of sphericity of a real-analytic Levi-nondegenerate hypersurface $M\subset\mathbb C^{2}$. We prove that $M$ is spherical if and only if its Segre\,(-Webster) varieties satisfy an elementary combinatorial property, identical to a property of straight lines on the plane and known in Projective Geometry as the {\em Desargues Theorem}.

Dicritical singularities and laminar currents on Levi-flat hypersurfaces

We establish an effective criterion for a dicritical singularity of a real analytic Levi-flat hypersurface. The criterion is stated in terms of the Segre varieties. As an application, we obtain a structure theorem for some class of currents in the nondicritical case.

Real-analytic coordinates for smooth strictly pseudoconvex CR-structures

For a smooth strictly pseudoconvex hypersurface in a complex manifold, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for being CR-diffeomorphic to a real-analytic CR manifold.
