he celebrated formula of Schlafli relates the variation of the dihedral angles of a smooth family of polyhedra in a space form and the variation of volume. We give a smooth analogue of this classical formula -- our result relates the variation of the volume bounded by a hypersurface moving in a general Einstein manifold and the integral of the variation of the mean curvature. The argument is direct, and the classical polyhedral result (as well as results for Lorenzian space forms) is an easy corollary. We extend it to variations of the metric in a Riemannian Einstein manifold with boundary. We apply our results to extend the classical Euclidean inequalities of Aleksandrov to other 3-dimensional constant curvature spaces. We also obtain rigidity results for Ricci-flat manifolds with umbilic boundaries and existence results for foliations of Einstein manifolds by hypersurfaces.
We present two identities (contiguity relation and variation formula) concerning the volume of a spherically faced simplex in the Euclidean space. These identities are described in terms of Cayley-Menger determinants and their differentials involved with hypersphere arrangements. They are derived as a limit of fundamental identities for hypergeometric integrals.
We study the geometry of the foliation by constant Gaussian curvature surfaces $(Σ_k)_k$ of a hyperbolic end, and how it relates to the structures of its boundary at infinity and of its pleated boundary. First, we show that the Thurston and the Schwarzian parametrizations are the limits of two families of parametrizations of the space of hyperbolic ends, defined by Labourie in 1992 in terms of the geometry of the leaves $Σ_k$. We give a new description of the renormalized volume using the constant curvature foliation. We prove a generalization of McMullen's Kleinian reciprocity theorem, which …
Making use of the dual Bonahon-Schläfli formula, we prove that the dual volume of the convex core of a quasi-Fuchsian manifold $M$ is bounded by an explicit constant, depending only on the topology of $M$, times the Weil-Petersson distance between the hyperbolic structures on the upper and lower boundary components of the convex core of $M$.
The Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula and the Zassenhaus formula in synthetic differential geometry
在Anders Kock [Taylor series calculus for ring objects of line type,Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra,12(1978),271-293]的启发下,我们将建立李群理论中的Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff公式和Zassenhaus公式。
We prove the Reilly formula for a class of elliptic divergence differential operator $L_Au=div(A\nabla u)$, where $A$ is a (1,1)-Codazzi tensor field. Then we get some estimates for the first positive eigenvalue of the operator.
In this paper, we prove Perelman type $\mathcal{W}$-entropy formulae and global differential Harnack estimates for positive solutions to porous medium equation on the closed Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded below. As applications, we derive Harnack inequalities and Laplacian estimates.
In the present paper, we give new Frenet formulas for the Bertrand partner curve by taking the advantage of relations between curvatures and a curve itself. Then making use of these formulas we write the differential equations and sufficient conditions of harmonicity of the Bertrand partner curve in terms of the main curve. Finally, we exemplify our assertions on the curve helix to see how the formulas we developed work.
In this paper, we obtain a localization formula in differential K-theory for $S^1$-action. Then by combining an extension of Goette's result on the comparison of two types of equivariant $η$-invariants, we establish a version of localization formula for equivariant $η$-invariants. An important step of our approach is to construct a pre-$λ$-ring structure in differential K-theory which is interesting in its own right.
We give an index formula for the class of all *-maximally hypoelliptic differential operators on any closed manifold with vector bundle coefficients, generalising previous index formulas by Atiyah-Singer and van Erp. Using this formula, we give new explicit index computations for Hormander's sum of squares operators of arbitrary rank.
In this paper we give explicit formulas of differential characteristic classes of principal $G$-bundles with connections and prove their expected properties. In particular, we obtain explicit formulas for differential Chern classes, differential Pontryagin classes and differential Euler class. Furthermore, we show that the differential Chern class is the unique natural transformation from (Simons-Sullivan) differential $K$-theory to (Cheeger-Simons) differential characters that is compatible with curvature and characteristic class. We also give the explicit formula for the differential Chern c…
We prove a Feynman-Kac formula for differential forms satisfying absolute boundary conditions on Riemannian manifolds with boundary and of bounded geometry. We use this to construct $L^2$ harmonic forms out of bounded ones on the universal cover of a compact Riemannian manifold whose geometry displays a positivity property expressed in terms of a certain stochastic average of the Weitzenböck operator $R_p$ acting on $p$-forms and the second fundamental form of the boundary. This extends previous work by Elworthy-Li-Rosenberg on closed manifolds to this setting. As an application we find a geom…
In 1992 Gelfand and MacPherson gave a local and combinatorial formula for the Pontrjagin classes of a differential manifold. We give an expanded version of their discussion and highlight the origins of combinatorial differential manifolds in their work.
