Invariant and polynomial identities for higher rank matrices

We exhibit explicit expressions, in terms of components, of discriminants, determinants, characteristic polynomials and polynomial identities for matrices of higher rank. We define permutation tensors and in term of them we construct discriminants and the determinant as the discriminant of order $d$, where $d$ is the dimension of the matrix. The characteristic polynomials and the Cayley--Hamilton theorem for higher rank matrices are obtained there from.

A note on trigonometric identities involving non-commuting matrices

An algorithm is presented for generating successive approximations to trigonometric functions of sums of non-commuting matrices. The resulting expressions involve nested commutators of the respective matrices. The procedure is shown to converge in the convergent domain of the Zassenhaus formula and can be useful in the perturbative treatment of quantum mechanical problems, where exponentials of sums of non-commuting skew-Hermitian matrices frequently appear.

Trace identities for skew-symmetric matrices

We derive an expression for the product of the Pfaffians of two skew-symmetric matrices A and B as a sum of products of the traces of powers of AB and an expression for the inverse matrix A$^{-1}$, or equivalently B$^{-1}$, as a finite-order polynomial of AB with coefficients depending on the traces of powers of AB.

Totally positive matrices and dilogarithm identities

We show that two involutions on the variety $N_n^+$ of upper triangular totally positive matrices are related, on the one hand, to the tetrahedron equation and, on the other hand, to the action of the symmetric group $S_3$ on some subvariety of $N_n^+$ and on the set of certain functions on $N_n^+$. Using these involutions, we obtain a family of dilogarithm identities involving minors of totally positive matrices. These identities admit a form manifestly invariant under the action of the symmetric group $S_3$.

Identities and exponential bounds for transfer matrices

This paper is about analytic properties of single transfer matrices originating from general block-tridiagonal or banded matrices. Such matrices occur in various applications in physics and numerical analysis. We prove and conjecture some new symmetric function identities, which equate the generating series of 1. Plane partitions, subject to certain restrictions and weightings, and 2. Alternating sign matrices, subject to certain symmetry properties. Two-term dilogarithm identities related to conformal field theory

We study 2x2 matrices A such that the corresponding TBA equations yield c[A] in the form of the effective central charge of a minimal Virasoro model. Certain properties of such matrices and the corresponding solutions of the TBA equations are established. Several continuous families and a discrete set of admissible matrices A are found. The corresponding two-term dilogarithm identities (some of which appear to be new) are obtained. Most of them are proven or shown to be equivalent to previously known identities.

Non-Abelian $SU(3)_k$ anyons: inversion identities for higher rank face models

The spectral problem for an integrable system of particles satisfying the fusion rules of $SU(3)_k$ is expressed in terms of exact inversion identities satisfied by the commuting transfer matrices of the integrable fused $A_2^{(1)}$ interaction round a face (IRF) model of Jimbo, Miwa and Okado. The identities are proven using local properties of the Boltzmann weights, in particular the Yang-Baxter equation and unitarity. They are closely related to the consistency conditions for the construction of eigenvalues obtained in the Separation of Variables approach to integrable vertex models.

Higher order analogues of unitarity condition for quantum R-matrices

We prove a family of $n$-th order identities for quantum $R$-matrices of Baxter-Belavin type in fundamental representation. The set of identities includes the unitarity condition as the simplest one ($n=2$). Our study is inspired by the fact that the third order identity provides commutativity of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov-Bernard connections. On the other hand the same identity gives rise to $R$-matrix valued Lax pairs for the classical integrable systems of Calogero type. We derive a set of bilinear identities for the determinants of the matrices that have been used to construct the dark soliton solutions for various models. To give examples of the application of the obtained identities we present soliton solutions for the equations describing multidimensional quadrilateral lattices, Darboux equations and multidimensional multicomponent systems of the nonlinear Schrodinger type.

Associative Yang-Baxter equation for quantum (semi-)dynamical R-matrices

In this paper we propose versions of the associative Yang-Baxter equation and higher order $R$-matrix identities which can be applied to quantum dynamical $R$-matrices.
