We have constructed the quasi-exactly-solvable two-mode bosonic realizations of su(2) and su(1, 1) algebra. We derive the relations leading to the conditions for quasi-exact solvability of two-boson Hamiltonians by determining a general procedure which maps the Schwinger representations of the su(2) and su(1, 1) algebras to the Gelfand-Dyson representations, respectively. This mapping allows us to study nonlinear quantum-optical systems in the framework of quasi-exact solvability. Our approach also leads to a simple construction of special functions of two variables which are the most appropriate functions to study quasi-probabilities in quantum optics.
We discuss self-adjoint operators given formally by expressions quadratic in bosonic creation and annihilation operators. We give conditions when they can be defined as self-adjoint operators, possibly after an infinite renormalization. We also discuss explicit formulas for their infimum. Our main motivation comes from Local Quantum Field Theory, which furnishes interesting examples of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians that require an infinite renormalization.
We consider an effective quasi-bosonic Hamiltonian of the electron gas which emerges naturally from the random phase approximation and describes the collective excitations of the gas. By a rigorous argument, we explain how the plasmon modes can be interpreted as a special class of approximate eigenstates of this model.
A method is developed to determine the eigenvalues and eigenfunction of two-boson $2\times 2$ matrix Hamiltonians include a wide class of quantum optical models. The quantum Hamiltonians have been transformed in the form of the one variable differential equation and the conditions for its solvability have been discussed. We present two different transformation procedure and we show our approach unify various approaches based on Lie algebraic technique. As an application, solutions of the modified Jaynes-Cummings and two-level Jahn Teller Hamiltonians are studied.
We apply the notion of asymptotic iteration method (AIM) to determine eigenvalues of the bosonic Hamiltonians that include a wide class of quantum optical models. We consider solutions of the Hamiltonians, which are even polynomials of the fourth order with the respect to Boson operators. We also demonstrate applicability of the method for obtaining eigenvalues of the simple Lie algebraic structures. Eigenvalues of the multi-boson Hamiltonians have been obtained by transforming in the form of the single boson Hamiltonian in the framework of AIM.
We provide general conditions for which bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians on Fock spaces can be diagonalized by Bogoliubov transformations. Our results cover the case when quantum systems have infinite degrees of freedom and the associated one-body kinetic and paring operators are unbounded. Our sufficient conditions are optimal in the sense that they become necessary when the relevant one-body operators commute.
Quadratic bosonic Hamiltonians over a one-particle Hilbert space can be described by a Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian on a particle-hole Hilbert space. In general, the BdG Hamiltonian is not selfadjoint, but only $J$-selfadjoint on the particle-hole space viewed as a Krein space. Nevertheless, its energy bands can have non-trivial topological invariants like Chern numbers or winding numbers. By a thorough analysis for tight-binding models, it is proved that these invariants lead to bosonic edge modes which are robust to a large class of possibly disordered perturbations. Furthermore, g…
Bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians, often called Bogoliubov Hamiltonians, play an important role in the theory of many-boson systems where they arise in a natural way as an approximation to the full many-body problem. In this note we would like to give an overview of recent advances in the study of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians. In particular, we relate the reported results to what can be called the time-dependent diagonalization problem.
The validity of substituting a c-number $z$ for the $k=0$ mode operator $a_0$ is established rigorously in full generality, thereby verifying one aspect of Bogoliubov's 1947 theory. This substitution not only yields the correct value of thermodynamic quantities like the pressure or ground state energy, but also the value of $|z|^2$ that maximizes the partition function equals the true amount of condensation in the presence of a gauge-symmetry breaking term -- a point that had previously been elusive.
We analyse a p+ip-wave pairing BCS Hamiltonian, coupled to a single bosonic degree of freedom representing a molecular condensate, and investigate the nature of the BEC-BCS crossover for this system. For a suitable restriction on the coupling parameters, we show that the model is integrable and we derive the exact solution by the algebraic Bethe ansatz. In this manner we also obtain explicit formulae for correlation functions and compute these for several cases. We find that the crossover between the BEC state and the strong pairing p+ip phase is smooth for this model, with no intermediate qua…
We introduce an abstract class of bosonic QFT Hamiltonians and study their spectral and scattering theories. These Hamiltonians are of the form $H=\d\G(ω)+ V$ acting on the bosonic Fock space $\G(\ch)$, where $ω$ is a massive one-particle Hamiltonian acting on $\ch$ and $V$ is a Wick polynomial $\Wick(w)$ for a kernel $w$ satisfying some decay properties at infinity. We describe the essential spectrum of $H$, prove a Mourre estimate outside a set of thresholds and prove the existence of asymptotic fields. Our main result is the {\em asymptotic completeness} of the scattering theory, which mean…
We construct two series of commuting Hamiltonians parametrized by a constant matrix. The first series was my guess and the second one was know, and in our approach follows from the first series. For the proof we use familier facts known from our previous consideration of the links between random matrices and Hurwitz numbers, however the text is self-consistent.
We study a class of representations of the Lie algebra of Laurent polynomials with values in the nilpotent subalgebra of sl(3). We derive Weyl-type (bosonic) character formulas for these representations. We establish a connection between the bosonic formulas and the Whittaker vector in the Verma module for the quantum group $U_v sl(3)$. We also obtain a fermionic formula for an eigenfunction of the sl(3) quantum Toda Hamiltonian.
We study spectral form factor in periodically-kicked bosonic chains. We consider a family of models where a Hamiltonian with the terms diagonal in the Fock space basis, including random chemical potentials and pair-wise interactions, is kicked periodically by another Hamiltonian with nearest-neighbor hopping and pairing terms. We show that for intermediate-range interactions, random phase approximation can be used to rewrite the spectral form factor in terms of a bi-stochastic many-body process generated by an effective bosonic Hamiltonian. In the particle-number conserving case, i.e., when pa…
We consider a fully pseudo-bosonic Swanson model and we show how its Hamiltonian $H$ can be diagonalized. We also deduce the eigensystem of $H^\dagger$, using the general framework and results deduced in the context of pseudo-bosons. We also construct, using different approaches, the bi-coherent states for the model, study some of their properties, and compare the various constructions.
We derive the exact form of the bosonized Hamiltonian for a many-body fermion system in one spatial dimension with arbitrary dispersion relations, using the droplet bosonization method. For a single-particle Hamiltonian polynomial in the momentum, the bosonized Hamiltonian is a polynomial of one degree higher in the bosonic "boundary" field and includes subleading lower-order and derivative terms. This generalizes the known results for massless relativistic and nonrelativistic fermions (quadratic and cubic bosonic Hamiltonians, respectively). We also consider two-body interactions and demonstr…
We consider a system of trapped spinless bosons interacting with a repulsive potential and subject to rotation. In the limit of rapid rotation and small scattering length, we rigorously show that the ground state energy converges to that of a simplified model Hamiltonian with contact interaction projected onto the Lowest Landau Level. This effective Hamiltonian models the bosonic analogue of the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect (FQHE). For a fixed number of particles, we also prove convergence of states; in particular, in a certain regime we show convergence towards the bosonic Laughlin wavefunc…
Two generalized Harry Dym equations, recently found by Brunelli, Das and Popowicz in the bosonic limit of new supersymmetric extensions of the Harry Dym hierarchy [J. Math. Phys. 44:4756--4767 (2003)], are transformed into previously known integrable systems: one--into a pair of decoupled KdV equations, the other one--into a pair of coupled mKdV equations from a bi-Hamiltonian hierarchy of Kupershmidt.
Fermionic systems differ from bosonic ones in several ways, in particular that the time-reversal operator $T$ is odd, $T^2=-1$. For $PT$-symmetric bosonic systems, the no-signaling principle and the quantum brachistochrone problem have been studied to some degree, both of them controversially. In this paper, we apply the basic methods proposed for bosonic systems to {\it fermionic} two- and four-dimensional $PT$-symmetric Hamiltonians, and obtain several surprising results: We find - in contrast to the bosonic case - that the no-signaling principle is upheld for two-dimensional fermionic Hamil…
The spectral analysis of a non-Hermitian unbounded operator appearing in quantum physics is our main concern. The properties of such an operator are essentially different from those of Hermitian Hamiltonians, namely due to spectral instabilities. We demonstrate that the considered operator and its adjoint can be diagonalized when expressed in terms of certain conveniently constructed operators. We show that their eigenfunctions constitute complete systems, but do not form Riesz bases. Attempts to overcome this difficulty in the quantum mechanical set up are pointed out.
By exhibiting the corresponding Lax pair representations we propose a wide class of integrable two-dimensional (2D) fermionic Toda lattice (TL) hierarchies which includes the 2D N=(2|2) and N=(0|2) supersymmetric TL hierarchies as particular cases. We develop the generalized graded R-matrix formalism using the generalized graded bracket on the space of graded operators with involution generalizing the graded commutator in superalgebras, which allows one to describe these hierarchies in the framework of the Hamiltonian formalism and construct their first two Hamiltonian structures. The first Ha…
Performing their reduction to the one-dimensional case by imposing suitable constraints we derive the corresponding 1D fermionic TL hierarchies. We develop the generalized graded R-matrix formalism using the generalized graded bracket on the space of graded operators with an involution generalizing the graded commutator in superalgebras, which allow…
Entanglement renormalization is a unitary real-space renormalization scheme. The corresponding quantum circuits or tensor networks are known as MERA, and they are particularly well-suited to describing quantum systems at criticality. In this work we show how to construct Gaussian bosonic quantum circuits that implement entanglement renormalization for ground states of arbitrary free bosonic chains. The construction is based on wavelet theory, and the dispersion relation of the Hamiltonian is translated into a filter design problem. We give a general algorithm that approximately solves this des…
We prove that the entanglement entropy of any pure initial state of a bipartite bosonic quantum system grows linearly in time with respect to the dynamics induced by any unstable quadratic Hamiltonian. The growth rate does not depend on the initial state and is equal to the sum of certain Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding classical dynamics. This paper generalizes the findings of [Bianchi et al., JHEP 2018, 25 (2018)], which proves the same result in the special case of Gaussian initial states. Our proof is based on a recent generalization of the strong subadditivity of the von Neumann e…
