We consider the resolvent of a second order differential operator with a regular singularity, admitting a family of self-adjoint extensions. We find that the asymptotic expansion for the resolvent in the general case presents unusual powers of $λ$ which depend on the singularity. The consequences for the pole structure of the $ζ$-function, and the small-$t$ asymptotic expansion of the heat-kernel, are also discussed.
We consider the resolvent of a system of first order differential operators with a regular singularity, admitting a family of self-adjoint extensions. We find that the asymptotic expansion for the resolvent in the general case presents powers of $λ$ which depend on the singularity, and can take even irrational values. The consequences for the pole structure of the corresponding $ζ$ and $η$-functions are also discussed.
We consider Schroedinger operators on compact and non-compact (finite) metric graphs. For such operators we analyse their spectra, prove that their resolvents can be represented as integral operators and introduce trace-class regularisations of the resolvents. Our main result is a complete asymptotic expansion of the trace of the (regularised) heat-semigroup generated by the Schroedinger operator. We also determine the leading coefficients in the expansion explicitly.
We consider two-dimensional Schroedinger operators with magnetic field. Under certain regularity and decay assumptions on the magnetic and electric field we show that the behavior of the corresponding resolvent at threshold and the behavior of the unitary group for large times are determined by the total flux of the associated magnetic field.
Within the C*-algebraic framework of the resolvent algebra for canonical quantum systems, the structure of oscillating lattice systems with bounded nearest neighbor interactions is studied in any number of dimensions. The global dynamics of such systems acts on the resolvent algebra by automorphisms and there exists a (in any regular representation) weakly dense subalgebra on which this action is pointwise norm continuous. Based on this observation, equilibrium (KMS) states as well as ground states are constructed which are shown to be regular. It is also indicated how to deal with singular in…
We show a norm convergence result for the Laplacian on a class of post-critically finite fractals with arbitrary Borel regular probability measure which can be approximated by a sequence of finite-dimensional graph Laplacians with corresponding discrete probability measures. As a consequence other functions of the Laplacians (heat operator, spectral projections etc.) converge as well in operator norm. One also deduces convergence of the spectrum and the eigenfunctions in energy norm.
Motivated by the method of self-similar variables for the study of the large time behavior of the heat equation in twisted wave-guides whose non circular cross-section and the support of twisting diminushing simutaneously to zero. Since in this limit the strength of the twisting increases to infinity and its support shrinks to the point, we show that the corresponding Schrödinger operator converges in a suitable norm-resolvent sense to a one-dimensional harmonic oscillator on the reference line of the wave-guide, subject to some extra Dirichlet boundary condition at the twisting point support.
We consider equilibrium states of weakly coupled anharmonic quantum oscillators on Z. We consider the Resolvent CCR Algebra introduced by D.Buchholtz and H.Grundling, and we show that the infinite volume limit of equilibrium states satisfies the KMS (Kubo-Martin-Schwinger) condition with good regularity(= locally Fock representation). Uniqueness of the KMS states is proven as well.
Consider the Schroedinger operator with semiclassical parameter h, in the limit where h goes to zero. When the involved long-range potential is smooth, it is well known that the boundary values of the operator's resolvent at a positive energy E are bounded by O(1/h) if and only if the associated Hamilton flow is non-trapping at energy E. In the present paper, we extend this result to the case where the potential may possess Coulomb singularities. Since the Hamilton flow then is not complete in general, our analysis requires the use of an appropriate regularization.
The principal aim in this paper is to develop an effective and unified approach to the computation of traces of resolvents (and resolvent differences), Fredholm determinants, $ζ$-functions, and $ζ$-function regularized determinants associated with linear operators in a Hilbert space. In particular, we detail the connection between Fredholm and $ζ$-function regularized determinants. Concrete applications of our formalism to general (i.e., three-coefficient) regular Sturm-Liouville operators on compact intervals with various (separated and coupled) boundary conditions, and Schrödinger operators …
Using a stochastic representation provided by Wiener-regularized path integrals for the semigroups generated by certain Berezin-Toeplitz operators, a transformation formula for their resolvents is derived. The key property used in the transformation of the stochastic representation is that, up to a time change, Brownian motion is invariant under harmonic morphisms. This result for Berezin-Toeplitz operators is obtained in analogy with a well-known technique generating relations among Schrödinger operators that was recently generalized to Riemannian manifolds [Wittich, J. Math. Phys. {\bf 41} (…
We study the so called crossing estimate for analytic dispersion relations of periodic lattice systems in dimensions three and higher. Under a certain regularity assumption on the behavior of the dispersion relation near its critical values, we prove that an analytic dispersion relation suppresses crossings if and only if it is not a constant on any affine hyperplane. In particular, this will then be true for any dispersion relation which is a Morse function. We also provide two examples of simple lattice systems whose dispersion relations do not suppress crossings in the present sense.
We get a generalization of Krein's formula -which relates the resolvents of different selfadjoint extensions of a differential operator with regular coefficients- to the non-regular case $A=-\partial_x^2+(ν^2-1/4)/x^2+V(x)$, where $0<ν<1$ and $V(x)$ is an analytic function of $x\in\mathbb{R}^+$ bounded from below. We show that the trace of the heat-kernel $e^{-tA}$ admits a non-standard small-t asymptotic expansion which contains, in general, integer powers of $t^ν$. In particular, these powers are present for those selfadjoint extensions of $A$ which are characterized by boundary conditions t…
We consider the fractional powers of singular (point-like) perturbations of the Laplacian, and the singular perturbations of fractional powers of the Laplacian, and we compare such two constructions focusing on their perturbative structure for resolvents and on the local singularity structure of their domains. In application to the linear and non-linear Schrödinger equations for the corresponding operators we outline a programme of relevant questions that deserve being investigated.
We prove that the wave operators for Schrödinger operators with multi-center local point interactions are the scaling limits of the ones for Schrödinger operators with regular potentials. We simultaneously present a proof of the corresponding well-known result for the resolvent which substantially simplifies the one by Albeverio et al.
We address the problem on the right definition of the Schroedinger operator with potential $δ'$, where $δ$ is the Dirac delta-function. Namely, we prove the uniform resolvent convergence of a family of Schroedinger operators with regularized short-range potentials $ε^{-2}V(x/ε)$ tending to $δ'$ in the distributional sense as $ε\to 0$. In 1986, P. Seba claimed that the limit coincides with the direct sum of free Schroedinger operators on the semi-axes with the Dirichlet boundary condition at the origin, which implies that in dimension one there is no non-trivial Hamiltonians with potential $δ'$…
We show that the one-dimensional Dirac operator with quite general point interaction may be approximated in the norm resolvent sense by the Dirac operator with a scaled regular potential of the form $1/\varepsilon~h(x/\varepsilon)\otimes B$, where $B$ is a suitable $2\times 2$ matrix. Moreover, we prove that the limit does not depend on the particular choice of $h$ as long as it integrates to a constant value.
Let $H:D(H)\subseteq{\mathscr F}\to{\mathscr F}$ be self-adjoint and let $A:D(H)\to{\mathscr F}$ (playing the role of the annihilator operator) be $H$-bounded. Assuming some additional hypotheses on $A$ (so that the creation operator $A^{*}$ is a singular perturbation of $H$), by a twofold application of a resolvent Krein-type formula, we build self-adjoint realizations $\hat H$ of the formal Hamiltonian $H+A^{*}+A$ with $D(H)\cap D(\hat H)=\{0\}$. We give an explicit characterization of $D(\hat H)$ and provide a formula for the resolvent difference $(-\hat H+z)^{-1}-(-H+z)^{-1}$. Moreover, we…
The regularized trace of the heat kernel of a one-dimensional Schrödinger operator with a singular two-particle contact interaction being of Lieb-Liniger type is considered. We derive a complete small-time asymptotic expansion in (fractional) powers of the time, $t$. Most importantly, we do not invoke standard parametrix constructions for the heat kernel. Instead, we first derive the large-energy expansion of the regularized trace of the resolvent for the considered operator. Then, we exploit that the resolvent may be obtained by a Laplace transformation of the heat semi-group, and an applicat…
The resolvent convergence of self-adjoint operators via the technique of $Γ$-convergence of quadratic forms is adapted to incorporate complex Hilbert spaces. As an application, we find effective operators to the Dirichlet Laplacian with magnetic potentials in very thin bounded tubular regions in space built along smooth closed curves; relatively weak regularity is asked for the potentials, and the convergence is in the norm resolvent sense as the cross sections of the tubes go uniformly to zero.
For a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ we define a system of linear ODEs with polynomial coefficients, which we call the topological equation of $\mathfrak g$-type. The dimension of the space of solutions regular at infinity is equal to the rank of the Lie algebra. For the simplest example $\mathfrak g=sl_2(\mathbb C)$ the regular solution can be expressed via products of Airy functions and their derivatives; this matrix valued function was used in our previous work for computing logarithmic derivatives of the Witten - Kontsevich tau-function. For an arbitrary simple Lie algebra we construct a…
