Coordinate formalism on Hilbert manifolds developed in Kryukov is reviewed. The results of Kryukov are applied to the simpliest case of a Hilbert manifold: the abstract Hilbert space. In particular, functional transformations preserving properties of various linear operators on Hilbert spaces are found. Any generalized solution of an arbitrary linear differential equation with constant coefficients is shown to be related to a smooth solution by a (functional) coordinate transformation. The results also suggest a way of using generalized functions to solve nonlinear problems on Hilbert spaces.
Infinite-dimensional manifolds modelled on arbitrary Hilbert spaces of functions are considered. It is shown that changes in model rather than changes of charts within the same model make coordinate formalisms on finite and infinite-dimensional manifolds deeply similar. In this context the obtained infinite-dimensional counterparts of simple notions such as basis, dual basis, orthogonal basis, etc. are shown to be closely related to the choice of a model. It is also shown that in this formalism a single tensor equation on an infinite-dimensional manifold produces a family of functional equatio…
The tomographic description of a quantum state is formulated in an abstract infinite dimensional Hilbert space framework, the space of the Hilbert-Schmidt linear operators, with trace formula as scalar product. Resolutions of the unity, written in terms of over-complete sets of rank-one projectors and of associated Gram-Schmidt operators taking into account their non-orthogonality, are then used to reconstruct a quantum state from its tomograms. Examples of well known tomographic descriptions illustrate the exposed theory.
Isomorphisms of separable Hilbert spaces are analogous to isomorphisms of n-dimensional vector spaces. However, while n-dimensional spaces in applications are always realized as the Euclidean space R^n, Hilbert spaces admit various useful realizations as spaces of functions. In the paper this simple observation is used to construct a fruitful formalism of local coordinates on Hilbert manifolds. Images of charts on manifolds in the formalism are allowed to belong to arbitrary Hilbert spaces of functions including spaces of generalized functions. Tensor equations then describe families of functi…
One of the fundamental postulates of the special relativity theory is existence of a single system of universal coordinate transforms for inertial reference frames, that is coordinate transforms, which are uniquely determined by space-time coordinates of a material point. In this paper the abstract mathematical theory of coordinate transforms in kinematic changeable sets is developed. In particular it is proved the formal possibility of existence of kinematics, which do not allow universal coordinate transforms. Such kinematics may be applied for simulation the evolution of physical systems un…
Given, on the Hilbert space $\H_0$, the self-adjoint operator $B$ and the skew-adjoint operators $C_1$ and $C_2$, we consider, on the Hilbert space $\H\simeq D(B)\oplus\H_0$, the skew-adjoint operator $$W=[\begin{matrix} C_2&\uno -B^2&C_1\end{matrix}]$$ corresponding to the abstract wave equation $\ddotϕ-(C_1+C_2)\dotϕ=-(B^2+C_1C_2)ϕ$. Given then an auxiliary Hilbert space $\fh$ and a linear map $τ:D(B^2)\to\fh$ with a kernel $\K$ dense in $\H_0$, we explicitly construct skew-adjoint operators $W_Θ$ on a Hilbert space $\H_Θ\simeq D(B)\oplus\H_0\oplus \fh$ which coincide with $W$ on $\N\simeq\K…
We consider an abstract quantum walk defined by a unitary evolution operator $U$, which acts on a Hilbert space decomposed into a direct sum of Hilbert spaces $\{\mathcal{H}_v \}_{v \in V}$. We show that such $U$ naturally defines a directed graph $G_U$ and the probability of finding a quantum walker on $G_U$. The asymptotic property of an abstract quantum walker is governed by the generator $H$ of $U$ such that $U^n = e^{inH}$. We derive the generator of an evolution of the form $U = S(2d_A^* d_A -1)$, a generalization of the Szegedy evolution operator. Here $d_A$ is a boundary operator and $…
We introduce a natural framework for dealing with Mourre theory in an abstract two-Hilbert spaces setting. In particular a Mourre estimate for a pair of self-adjoint operators (H,A) is deduced from a similar estimate for a pair of self-adjoint operators (H_0,A_0) acting in an auxiliary Hilbert space. A new criterion for the completeness of the wave operators in a two-Hilbert spaces setting is also presented.
We prove global and local versions of the so-called div-curl-lemma, a crucial result in the homogenization theory of partial differential equations, for mixed boundary conditions on bounded weak Lipschitz domains in 3D with weak Lipschitz interfaces. We will generalize our results using an abstract Hilbert space setting, which shows corresponding results to hold in arbitrary dimensions as well as for various differential operators. The crucial tools and the core of our arguments are Hilbert complexes and related compact embeddings.
The one-dimensional real line of coordinates is replaced, for simplification or approximation purposes, by an N-plet of the so called Gauss-Hermite grid points. These grid points are interpreted as the eigenvalues of a tridiagonal matrix $\mathfrak{q}_0$ which proves rather complicated. Via the "zeroth" Dyson-map $Ω_0$ the "operator of position" $\mathfrak{q}_0$ is then further simplified into an isospectral matrix $Q_0$ which is found optimal for the purpose. As long as the latter matrix appears non-Hermitian it is not an observable in the manifestly "false" Hilbert space ${\cal H}^{(F)}:=\ma…
We study infinite weighted graphs with view to \textquotedblleft limits at infinity,\textquotedblright or boundaries at infinity. Examples of such weighted graphs arise in infinite (in practice, that means \textquotedblleft very\textquotedblright large) networks of resistors, or in statistical mechanics models for classical or quantum systems. But more generally our analysis includes reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and associated operators on them. If $X$ is some infinite set of vertices or nodes, in applications the essential ingredient going into the definition is a reproducing kernel Hilb…
Given two Hilbert spaces, $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{K}$, we introduce an abstract unitary operator $U$ on $\mathcal{H}$ and its discriminant $T$ on $\mathcal{K}$ induced by a coisometry from $\mathcal{H}$ to $\mathcal{K}$ and a unitary involution on $\mathcal{H}$. In a particular case, these operators $U$ and $T$ become the evolution operator of the Szegedy walk on a graph, possibly infinite, and the transition probability operator thereon. We show the spectral mapping theorem between $U$ and $T$ via the Joukowsky transform. Using this result, we have completely detemined the spectrum of the…
We study the correct solvability of an abstract integro-differential equations in Hilbert space generalizing integro-differential equations arising in the theory of viscoelastisity. The equations under considerations are the abstract hyperbolic equations perturbed by the terms containing Volterra integral operators. We establish the correct solvability in the weighted Sobolev spaces of vector-valued functions on the positive semiaxis.
We discuss the so-called two-temperature model in linear thermoelasticity and provide a Hilbert space framework for proving well-posedness of the equations under consideration. With the abstract perspective of evolutionary equations, the two-temperature model turns out to be a coupled system of the elastic equations and an abstract ode. Following this line of reasoning, we propose another model being entirely an abstract ode. We highlight also an alternative way for a two-temperature model, which might be of independent interest.
The Einstein-Hilbert (EH) action is peculiar in many ways. Some of the Peculiar features have already been highlighted in literature. In the present article, we have discussed some peculiar features of EH action which has not been discussed earlier. It is well-known that there are several ways of decomposing the EH action into the bulk and the surface part with different underlying motivations. We provide a review on all of these decompositions. Then, we attempt to study the static coordinate as a limiting case of a time-dependent coordinate via dynamic upgradation of the constant metric param…
In the paper is presented an invariant quantization procedure of classical mechanics on the phase space over flat configuration space. Then, the passage to an operator representation of quantum mechanics in a Hilbert space over configuration space is derived. An explicit form of position and momentum operators as well as their appropriate ordering in arbitrary curvilinear coordinates is demonstrated. Finally, the extension of presented formalism onto non-flat case and related ambiguities of the process of quantization are discussed.
Given a representation of a C*-algebra, thought of as an abstract collection of physical observables, together with a unit vector, one obtains a state on the algebra via restriction. We show that the Gelfand-Naimark-Segal (GNS) construction furnishes a left adjoint of this restriction. To properly formulate this adjoint, it must be viewed as a weak natural transformation, a 1-morphism in a suitable 2-category, rather than as a functor between categories. Weak naturality encodes the functoriality and the universal property of adjunctions encodes the characterizing features of the GNS constructi…
