Supersymmetry with breaking of R-parity provides an attractive way to generate neutrino masses and lepton mixing angles in accordance to present neutrino data. We review the main theoretical features of the bilinear R-parity breaking (BRpV) model, and stress that it is the simplest extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which includes lepton number violation. We describe how it leads to a successful phenomenological model with hierarchical neutrino masses. In contrast to seesaw models, the BRpV model can be probed at future collider experiments, like the Large Hadron Collider or the Next Linear Collider, since the decay pattern of the lightest supersymmetric particle provides a direct connection with the lepton mixing angles determined by neutrino experiments.
The phenomenological neutrino mass matrix for two-zero symmetric texture has been obtained and used to rule out all possible two-zero symmetric neutrino mass matrices obtained from Yukawa couplings to $\mathbf{10}$ and $\mathbf{126}$ Higgs representations within the framework of minimal supersymmetric SO(10).
We generalize the notion of the Jarlskog invariant to supersymmetric models with right--handed neutrinos. This allows us to formulate basis--independent necessary and sufficient conditions for CP conservation in such models.
We construct a supersymmetric version of the triplet Higgs model for neutrino masses, which can generate a baryon asymmetry of the Universe through lepton-number violation and is consistent with the gravitino constraints.
We summarized our report on neutrino masses and $μ\to e γ$ in the generic supersymmetric standard model, emphasizing on the much overlooked scalar masses contributions from R-parity violation.
We review very nice mechanism to generate masses to all the neutrinos in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) without break $R$-parity. In consequence we get viable axion as Dark Matter candidate and at the same time solve the $μ$-problem in a similar way as done in the Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Model (NMSSM).
We analyze a scalar potential of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with neutrino mass operators along Unbounded-From-Below (UFB) and Color and/or Charged Breaking (CCB) directions. We show necessary conditions to avoid the potential minima which can be deeper than the realistic vacuum. These conditions would constrain more strongly than conditions in the MSSM without taking into account neutrino mass operators, and can improve the predictive power of supersymmetric models with neutrino mass operators.
We examine supersymmetric contributions to transition magnetic moments of Majorana neutrinos. We first give the general formula for it. In concrete evaluations, informations of neutrino mass matrix elements including CP phases are necessary. Using unambiguously determined neutrino mass matrices in recently proposed minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, the transition magnetic moments are calculated. The resultant neutrino magnetic moments are found to be roughly an order of magnitude larger than those calculated in the standard model extended to incorporate the see-saw mechanism.
The recently proposed supersymmetric $A_4$ model of the neutrino mass matrix is modified to merge with a previously proposed axionic solution of the strong CP problem. The resulting model has only one input scale, i.e. that of $A_4$ symmetry breaking, which determines both the seesaw neutrino mass scale and the axion decay constant. It also solves the $μ$ problem and conserves R parity automatically.
A four-neutrino spectrum with a sterile neutrino without significant involvement in the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillation experiments has been recently advocated as the correct picture to explain all existing experimental data. We propose a supersymmetric model in which this picture can be naturally implemented. In this model, the mass for the mainly active neutrino eigenstates is induced by the seesaw mechanism with a large intermediate scale $M_R$, whereas the mass for the mainly sterile neutrino state is closely related to supersymmetry breaking.
The radiative seesaw mechanism proposed recently is minimally extended to include supersymmetry in a specific model. Relevant related issues such as leptogenesis and dark matter are discussed.
We consider the supersymmetric seesaw mechanism induced by the exchange of heavy SU(2)_W triplet states, rather than `right-handed' neutrino singlets, to generate neutrino masses. We show that in this scenario the neutrino flavour structure tested at low-energy in the atmospheric and solar neutrino experiments is directly inherited from the neutrino Yukawa couplings to the triplets. This allows us to predict the ratio of the tau --> mu gamma (or tau --> e gamma) and mu --> e gamma decay rates in terms of the low-energy neutrino parameters. Moreover, once the model is embedded in a grand unifie…
In the supersymmetric left-right model, the light neutrino masses are given by the Type-II seesaw mechanism. A duality property about this mechanism indicates that there exist eight possible Higgs triplet Yukawa couplings which result in the same neutrino mass matrix. In this paper, We work out the one-loop renormalization group equations for the effective neutrino mass matrix in the supersymmetric left-right model. The stability of the Type-II seesaw scenario is briefly discussed. We also study the lepton-flavor-violating processes ($τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to eγ$) by using the reconstructed Higgs tr…
We review a recently proposed framework in which the neutrino mass is a signal of supersymmetry breaking and is suppressed dynamically. In addition, we briefly comment on some possible consequences of general lepton-number violation in supersymmetric theories, e.g., dijet and multijet signals and $jj \rightarrow llγγ$.
We study neutrino masses in the framework of the supersymmetric inverse seesaw model. Different from the non-supersymmetric version a minimal realization with just one pair of singlets is sufficient to explain all neutrino data. We compute the neutrino mass matrix up to 1-loop order and show how neutrino data can be described in terms of the model parameters. We then calculate rates for lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes, such as $μ\to e γ$, and chargino decays to singlet scalar neutrinos. The latter decays are potentially observable at the LHC and show a characteristic decay pattern dic…
In the generic supersymmetric standard model which had no global symmetry enforced by hand, lepton number violation is a natural consequence. Supersymmetry, hence, can be considered the source of experimentally demanded beyond standard model properties for the neutrinos. With an efficient formulation of the model, we perform a comprehensive detailed analysis of all one-loop contributions to neutrino masses.
In the supersymmetric seesaw model of neutrino masses, augmented by the non-Abelian discrete tetrahedral symmetry A_4, a specific pattern of neutrino mixing is automatically generated if one of the three heavy singlet neutrino superfields acquires a nonzero vacuum expectation value. This pattern turns out to be exactly that of tribimaximal mixing, i.e. sin^2 theta_23 = 1/2, sin^2 theta_12 = 1/3, and sin^2 theta_13 = 0, in good agreement with data.
The neutrino experiment results suggest that the neutrinos have finite masses and the lepton-flavor symmetries are violating in nature. In the supersymmetric models, the charged lepton-flavor violating processes, such as mu -> e gamma and tau -> mu gamma, may have the branching ratios accessible to the future experiments, depending on origins of the neutrino masses and the SUSY breaking. In this paper we discuss the branching ratios in the supergravity scenario using the current solar and atmospheric neutrino experimental data.
We analyse the dependence of the electron electric dipole moment (EDM) on neutrino CP violating phases in the context of supersymmetric models. We start by studying the supersymmetric contributions to the lepton EDM and lepton flavour violation processes tau -> mu gamma and mu -> e gamma, in the framework of the mass insertion approximation, showing that, due to the large neutrino mixing, mu -> e gamma leads to severe constraints on the relevant mass insertions. We derive model independent bounds on these mass insertions and show that once these bounds are satisfied, the present experimental l…
We have considered a supersymmetric version of the inert Higgs doublet model, whose motivation is to explain smallness of neutrino masses and existence of dark matter. In this supersymmetric model, due to the presence of discrete symmetries, neutrinos acquire masses at loop level. After computing these neutrino masses, in order to fit the neutrino oscillation data, we have shown that by tuning some supersymmetry breaking soft parameters of the model, neutrino Yukawa couplings can be unsuppressed. In the above mentioned parameter space, we have computed branching ratio of the decay $μ\to eγ$. T…
We discuss how θ_{13} \neq 0 is accommodated in a recently proposed renormalizable model of neutrino mixing using the non-Abelian discrete symmetry T_7 in the context of a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with gauged U(1)_{B-L}. We predict a correlation between θ_{13} and θ_{23}, as well as the effective neutrino mass m_{ee} in neutrinoless double beta decay.
The neutrino oscillations are studied in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model with Type-III see-saw mechanism by additionally introducing a number of SO(10) singlet neutrinos. The light Majorana neutrino mass matrix is given by a combination of those of the singlet neutrinos and the $SU(2)_L$ active neutrinos. The minimal SO(10) model gives an unambiguous Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which enables us to predict the masses and the other parameters for the singlet neutrinos. These predicted masses take the values accessible and testable by near future collider experiments unde…
A detailed investigation of hybrid inflation and the subsequent reheating process is performed within a mu problem solving supersymmetric model based on a left-right symmetric gauge group. The process of baryogenesis via leptogenesis is especially studied. For mu and tau neutrino masses consistent with the small angle MSW resolution of the solar neutrino problem and the recent results of the SuperKamiokande experiment, we show that maximal mu-tau neutrino mixing can be achieved. The required value of the relevant coupling constant is, however, quite small (of the order 10^{-6}).
We present a supersymmetric model of fermion masses, based on a non-Abelian family symmetry and the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism, that can account for the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems via quasi-degenerate neutrinos. The model predicts that the ratio of neutrino mass squared splittings Δm^2_{12} / Δm^2_{23} is of order m_s^2/m_b^2, and the angles θ_{12} \sim m_d/m_s and θ_{23} \sim 1, which are of the desired orders of magnitude. We discuss the implications of the flavor structure of the neutrino sector on superparticle masses and mixing angles.
A bilinear R-Parity breaking SUSY model for neutrino mass and mixing predicts the lightest superparticle to decay mainly into a pair of tau leptons or b quarks along with a neutrino for relatively light SUSY spectra. This leads to a distinctive triple bang signature of SUSY events at ultrahigh energy neutrino telescopes like IceCube or Antares. While the expected signal size is only marginal at IceCube, it will be promising for a future multi-km^3 size neutrino telescope.
We investigate a single scalar neutrino production at the upgraded HERA with high luminosity in the framework of an R-parityviolating supersymmetric model. We find that the scalar neutrino with mass around 100GeV could be observed through investigating the multilepton production process e- p -> mu- sneutrino(tau) X -> mu- (e- mu+) X. The signal would be characterized by mu+ and e- with high transverse momentum as well as a sharp peak in the invariant mass M(e-,mu+) distribution.
The formalism for neutrino flavor change induced by lepton family number violating interactions is developed for the three-neutrino case, and used to derive the corresponding flavor change probabilities in matter. Applied to the solar and atmospheric neutrino fluxes, it is argued that the observed anomalies, including the zenith dependence for the atmospheric case, could be due to such interactions.
We study neutrino masses and mixing in R-parity violating supersymmetric models with generic soft supersymmetry breaking terms. Neutrinos acquire masses from various sources: Tree level neutrino--neutralino mixing and loop effects proportional to bilinear and/or trilinear R-parity violating parameters. Each of these contributions is controlled by different parameters and have different suppression or enhancement factors which we identified. Within an Abelian horizontal symmetry framework these factors are related and specific predictions can be made. We found that the main contributions to the…
We propose an extension of the supersymmetric standard model with right-handed neutrinos and a singlet Higgs field, and study the neutrino masses in this model. The Majorana masses for the right-handed neutrinos are generated around the supersymmetry breaking scale through the vacuum expectation value of the singlet Higgs field. This model may induce spontaneous R-parity violation via the vacuum expectation value of the right-handed sneutrino. In the case, the effective theory is similar to a bilinear R-parity violating model. There are two sources for the neutrino masses: one is this bilinear…
We address the influence of quantum corrections to neutrino masses and mixings and discuss the possibilities to completely generate the flavor mixing irrespective of any tree-level flavor model. Furthermore, we describe a new class of vacua with a new minimum appearing in the standard Higgs direction. The results hint towards a charge and color breaking global minimum and therefore extend existing bounds at tree-level. Finally, we combine the discussion of vacuum stability in the MSSM with the right-handed neutrino extension. The supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism rescues the poten…
Leptogenesis in supersymmetric model is discussed comprehensively and in detail. In the first half, we discuss several leptogenesis mechanisms by the decay of heavy right-handed neutrino, which include the standard thermal leptogenesis, leptogenesis via inflaton decay, and leptogenesis from the coherent oscillation of the right-handed sneutrino. In the second half, we perform a detailed analysis on the leptogenesis via the LHu flat direction (Affleck-Dine leptogenesis).
We provide, in the R-parity violating supersymmetric standard model, a comprehensive analysis for sneutrino minimization from the one-loop effective scalar potential, and also for one-loop renormalized neutrino masses and mixing by calculating the effective neutrino mass matrix in the weak basis. Applying our results to theories with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking, we show how atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations can be accommodated simultaneously in this framework. It is observed that the one-loop correction to sneutrino vacuum expectation values leads to a significant effect on…
In the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, nonzero neutrino masses and mixing can be generated through renormalizable lepton number (and thus R-parity) violating operators. It is examined whether neutrino mass matrices from tree and one-loop contributions can account for two mass-squared differences and mixing angles that explain current experimental data. By accommodating, in particular, the solar and atmospheric neutrino data, we find interesting restrictions not only on the free parameters of the theory, such as lepton number violating couplings and soft-parameters, but al…
We propose the minimal supersymmetric sterile neutrino model (MSSNM) where the sterile neutrino masses are about 1 eV, while the active neutrino masses and the mixings among the active and sterile neutrinos are generated during late time phase transition. All the current experimental neutrino data include the LSND can be explained simultaneously, and the constraints on the sterile neutrinos from the big bang nucleosynthesis and large scale structure can be evaded. To realize the MSSNM naturally, we consider the supersymmetric intermediate-scale U(1)' model, the low energy U(1)' model with a se…
The lightest supersymmetric particle may decay with branching ratios that correlate with neutrino oscillation parameters. In this case the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has the potential to probe the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle with sensitivity competitive to its low-energy determination by underground experiments. Under realistic detection assumptions, we identify the necessary conditions for the experiments at CERN's LHC to probe the simplest scenario for neutrino masses induced by minimal supergravity with bilinear R parity violation.
Renormalizable lepton number violating interactions that break R-parity can induce a Majorana mass for neutrinos. Based on this, we show that it is possible to obtain a phenomenologically viable neutrino mass matrix that can accommodate atmospheric neutrino data via $ν_μ$--$ν_τ$ mixing and the solar neutrino data via either the large or small angle MSW effect. We argue that such a mass matrix could result from an approximate discrete symmetry of the superpotential that forbids renormalizable baryon number violating couplings.
We present detailed analyses of the vacuum structure of the scalar potential in a supersymmetric Mass Varying Neutrinos model. The observed dark energy density is identified with false vacuum energy and the dark energy scale of order $(10^{-3}eV)^4$ is understood by gravitationally suppressed supersymmetry breaking scale, $F({TeV})^2/M_{Pl}$, in the model. The vacuum expectation values of sneutrinos should be tiny in order that the model works. Some decay processes of superparticles into acceleron and sterile neutrino are also discussed in the model.
In supersymmetric theories, sneutrino--anti-sneutrino mixing can occur with the oscillation time $\sim 0.01$ ps corresponding the atmospheric neutrino mass scale $\sim 0.05$ eV. We explore the possibility of observing sneutrino oscillation phenomena and CP violation when R-parity violation explains the observed neutrino masses and mixing. It is shown for some parameter region in the bilinear model of R-parity violation that the tiny sneutrino mass splitting and time-dependent CP violating asymmetries could be measured in the future experiments if the tau sneutrino is the lightest supersymmetri…
We propose a model for neutrino mass generation based on both the tree-level seesaw mechanism with a single right-handed neutrino and one-loop radiative effects in a non-supersymmetric framework. The generated mass matrix is composed of two parts which have the same texture and produce neutrino mass eigenvalues and mixing suitable for the explanation of neutrino oscillations. The model has a good CDM candidate which contributes to the radiative neutrino mass generation. The stability of the CDM candidate is ensured by $Z_2$ which is the residual symmetry of a spontaneously broken U(1)$^\prime$…
A supersymmetric model based on a left-right symmetric gauge group is proposed where hybrid inflation, baryogenesis and neutrino oscillations are linked. This scheme, supplemented by a familiar ansatz for the neutrino Dirac masses and mixing of the two heaviest families and with the MSW resolution of the solar neutrino puzzle, implies that $m_{ν_τ}$ lies between 1 and 9 eV. The mixing angle $θ_{μτ}$ is predicted to lie in a narrow range which will be partially tested by the Chorus/Nomad experiment.
We argue that with the discovery of neutrino mass effects at Super-Kamiokande there is a clear logical chain leading from the Standard Model through the MSSM and the recently developed Minimal Left Right Supersymmetric models with a renormalizable see-saw mechanism for neutrino mass to Left Right symmetric SUSY GUTS : in particular, SO(10) and $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R\times SU(4)_c$. The progress in constructing such GUTS explicitly is reviewed and their testability/falsifiability by proton decay measurements emphasized.
Adding a second scalar doublet (eta^+,eta^0) and three neutral singlet fermions N_{1,2,3} to the Standard Model of particle interactions with a new Z_2 symmetry, it has been shown that Re(eta^0) or Im(eta^0) is a good dark-matter candidate and seesaw neutrino masses are generated radiatively. A supersymmetric U(1) gauge extension of this new idea is proposed, which enforces the usual R parity of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and allows this new Z_2 symmetry to emerge as a discrete remnant.
The simplest unified extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with bi-linear R--Parity violation provides a predictive scheme for neutrino masses which can account for the observed atmospheric and solar neutrino anomalies in terms of bi-maximal neutrino mixing. The maximality of the atmospheric mixing angle arises dynamically, by minimizing the scalar potential, while the solar neutrino problem can be accounted for either by large or by small mixing oscillations. One neutrino picks up mass by mixing with neutralinos, while the degeneracy and masslessness of the other two is lifte…
Supersymmetry with broken R-parity can explain the neutrino mass squared differences and mixing angles observed in neutrino oscillation experiments. In the minimal model, where R-parity is broken only by bilinear terms, certain decay properties of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) are correlated with neutrino mixing angles. Here we consider charginos, squarks, gluinos and sneutrinos being the LSP and calculate their decay properties in bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry. Together with the decays of charged scalars and neutralinos calculated previously this completes the proof th…
We discuss how the experimental neutrino oscillation data can be realized in the framework of the baryon triality ($B_3$) constrained supersymmetric Standard Model (cSSM). We show how to obtain phenomenologically viable solutions, which are compatible with the recent WMAP observations. We present results for the hierarchical, inverted and degenerate cases which illustrate the possible size and structure of the lepton number violating couplings. We work with a new, as yet unpublished version of SOFTSUSY, where we implemented full one--loop neutrino masses. Finally, we shortly discuss some pheno…
Massive neutrinos are a generic prediction of SO(10), and models of unification cry for supersymmetry. Since we have a rather detailed information on neutrino and charged fermion masses, the real question is: how/whether it is possible to build a SO(10) supersymmetric model, that correctly incorporates fermion masses. We show that a simple construction is possible in the context of a minimal theory. We concentrate on the two heaviest generations, discuss the predictions of the model, and briefly comment on open questions.
We propose the novel lepton-number relationship $L_τ= L_e + L_μ$, which is uniquely realized by the interaction $(\hat ν_e \hat μ- \hat e \hat ν_μ) \hat τ^c$ in supersymmetry and may account for a possibly large muon anomalous magnetic moment. Neutrino masses (with bimaximal mixing) may be generated from the spontaneous and soft breaking of this lepton symmetry.
We investigate b-quark production in both charged and neutral current channels through neutrino-nucleon scattering at a neutrino factory, mediated by the lepton flavour violating interactions present in a supersymmetric theory with broken R-parity. Using values of the effctive interaction strengths well below the current and projected experimental bounds, we are still able to predict markedly enhanced event rates, especially for the neutral current events which are not allowed at the lowest order in the standard model (SM). Data from neutrino factories can therefore be used to probe strengths …
In supersymmetric models a tree-level neutrino mass could originate from the (weak-scale) superpotential. We propose and examine a realization of that idea, which arises naturally in the framework of a spontaneously broken U(1) R-symmetry. The solution to the neutrino mass problem could shed light in this framework on the possible resolution of the $μ$ problem. Furthermore, the suppression of the neutrino mass in comparison to the weak scale arises dynamically and need not be encoded in the superpotential. The latter mechanism operates, for example, in universal models for the soft supersymmet…
We consider the supersymmetric extension of the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos. We study the mass spectra in the scalar and pseudoscalar sectors, and for a given set of the input parameters, we find that the lightest scalar in the model has a mass of 130 GeV and the lightest pseudoscalar has mass of 5 GeV. However, this pseudoscalar decouples from the $Z^0$ at high energy scales since it is almost a singlet under $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$.
The baryon asymmetry of the universe can be explained by the out-of-equilibrium decays of heavy right-handed neutrinos. We analyse this mechanism in the framework of a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model and show that lepton number violating scatterings are indispensable for baryogenesis, even though they may wash-out a generated asymmetry. By assuming a similar pattern of mixings and masses for neutrinos and up-type quarks, as suggested by SO(10) unification, we can generate the observed baryon asymmetry without any fine tuning, if (B-L) is broken at the unification scale Λ_{GUT}\s…
We consider supersymmetric extension of standard electroweak model with Dirac neutrino masses. In such model for significant region of the parameters right-handed tau sneutrino is the lightest superparticle and right-handed charged tau slepton is the next to lightest superparticle. Due to the smallness of the neutrino masses the right-handed tau slepton is long-lived particle that changes the standard signatures used in the search for supersymmetry at supercolliders. The most striking signatures of such scenario is the existence of highly ionizing tracks and excess of multilepton events that i…
A simple mechanism to generate Dirac masses for the neutrinos in SU(5) supersymmetric grand unified theory is proposed. The tiny Dirac masses are induced by the small mixing between the Higgs fields and another superheavy fields. The mixing terms are obtained by the same mechanism as the mu-term generation of the order of the supersymmetry breaking scale, so that the mixing of order TeV / M_GUT \sim 10^{-13} is realized. We consider the lepton flavor violating processes in this model. The branching ratios are directly related to the neutrino oscillation parameters and we can predict the B(τ-> …
The (B_{d}\longrightarrow ΦK_{s}) process is without tree level decay amplitude . Then the SUSY contributions may be significant . We calculate the neutralino and gluino penguin contributions to the CP violating phase in (SU(5) ) grand unified theory with right-handed neutrino (SU(5)_{RN}) . We find that the SUSY contribution may change the phase in (B_{d}\longrightarrow ΦK_{s} ).
