Periodically driven systems provide a powerful platform for quantum multiparameter estimation. Constructing a static effective Hamiltonian in a proper rotating frame is commonly employed to assess the attainable precision. However, such an approach becomes nonfeasible for more general time-periodically driven systems. To tackle this dilemma, we develop a quantum multiparameter estimation strategy in the Floquet theory framework. The contributions of Floquet eigenmodes, quasienergies, and multi-photon processes to the quantum Fisher information matrix and measurement incompatibility are determined, respectively. Moreover, this approach is applied to a ring-shaped Rashba spin-orbit interferometer model exhibiting the topological phase transition (TPT). In the vicinity of the TPT boundary, we reveal a pronounced enhancement in the estimation precision of multiple parameters with the Heisenberg limit scaling and even higher. Meanwhile, the measurement incompatibility vanishes in an oscillatory manner, and the stroboscopic projective measurement enables the highest estimation precision achievable. This work provides a complete Floquet picture for time-dependent critical quantum multiparameter estimation.
We provide a comprehensive study of the energy transfer phenomenon -- populating a given energy level -- in 3- and 4-level quantum systems coupled to two thermal baths. In particular, we examine the effects of an external periodic driving and the coherence induced by the baths on the efficiency of the energy transfer. We consider the Floquet-Lindblad and the Floquet-Redfield scenarios, which both are in the Born-Markov, weak-coupling regime but differ in the treatment of the secular approximation, and for the latter, we develop an appropriate Floquet-type master equation by employing a partial…

Electrons in a lattice exhibit time-periodic motion, known as Bloch oscillation, when subject to an additional static electric field. Here we show that a corresponding dynamics can occur upon replacing the spatially periodic potential by a time-periodic driving: Floquet oscillations of charge carriers in a spatially homogeneous system. The time lattice of the driving gives rise to Floquet bands that take on the role of the usual Bloch bands. For two different drivings (harmonic driving and periodic kicking through pulses) of systems with linear dispersion we demonstrate the existence of such o…
Results are presented for Floquet systems in two spatial dimensions where the Floquet driving breaks an effective time reversal symmetry. The driving protocol also induces flat bands that correspond to anomalous Floquet phases where the Chern number is zero and yet chiral edge modes exist. Analytic expressions for the edge modes, Berry curvature, and the orbital magnetization are derived for the flat bands. Results are also presented for the static Haldane model for parameters when the bands are flat. Floquet driving of the same model is shown to give rise to Chern insulators as well as anomal…
The cooperation between time-periodic driving fields and non-Hermitian effects could endow systems with distinctive spectral and transport properties. In this work, we uncover an intriguing class of non-Hermitian Floquet matter in one-dimensional quasicrystals, which is characterized by the emergence of multiple driving-induced ${\cal PT}$-symmetry breaking/restoration, mobility edges, and reentrant localization transitions. These findings are demonstrated by investigating the spectra, level statistics, inverse participation ratios and wavepacket dynamics of a periodically quenched nonreciproc…
We extend the notion of fragile topology to periodically-driven systems. We demonstrate driving-induced fragile topology in two different models, namely, the Floquet honeycomb model and the Floquet $π$-flux square-lattice model. In both cases, we discover a rich phase diagram that includes Floquet fragile topological phases protected by crystalline rotation or mirror symmetries, Floquet Chern insulators, and trivial atomic phases, with distinct boundary features. Remarkably, the transitions between different phases can be feasibly achieved by simply tuning the driving amplitudes, which is a un…

It is of theoretical and experimental interest to engineer topological phases with very large topological invariants via periodic driving. As advocated by this work, such Floquet engineering can be elegantly achieved by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique from the swarm intelligence family. With the recognition that conventional gradient-based optimization approaches are not suitable for directly optimizing topological invariants as integers, the highly effective PSO route yields new promises in the search for exotic topological phases, requiring limited physical resource. Our resu…
An iterative algorithm is established which enables one to compute individual Floquet states even for many-body systems with high-dimensional Hilbert spaces that are not accessible to commonly employed conventional methods. A strategy is proposed for following a Floquet state in response to small changes of a given system's Hamiltonian. The scheme is applied to a periodically driven Bose-Hubbard chain, verifying the possibility of pseudoadiabatic Floquet state following. In particular, it is demonstrated that a driving-induced Mott insulatorlike target Floquet state can be populated with high …
This letter presents a generalization of the Drude conductivity for systems which are exposed to periodic driving. The probe bias is treated perturbatively by using the Kubo formula, whereas the external driving is included non-perturbatively using the Floquet theory. Using a new type of four-times Green's functions disorder is approached diagrammatically, yielding a fully analytical expression for the Floquet-Drude conductivity. Furthermore, the Floquet Fermi's golden rule is generalized to $tt'$-Floquet states, connecting the Floquet-Dyson series with scattering theory for Floquet states. Ou…
Floquet dynamical quantum phase transitions (FDQPTs) are signified by recurrent nonanalytic behaviors of observables in time. In this work, we introduce a quench-free and generic approach to engineer and control FDQPTs for both pure and mixed Floquet states. By applying time-periodic modulations with two commensurate driving frequencies to a general class of spin chain model, we find multiple FDQPTs within each driving period. The nonanalytic cusps of return probability form sublattice structures in time domain. Notably, the number and time-locations of these cusps can be flexibly controlled b…
We propose a `Floquet engineering' formalism to systematically design a periodic driving protocol in order to stroboscopically realize the desired system starting from a given static Hamiltonian. The formalism is applicable to quantum systems which have an underlying closed Lie-algebraic structure, for example, solid-state systems with noninteracting particles moving on a lattice or its variant described by the ultra-cold atoms moving on an optical lattice. Unlike previous attempts at Floquet engineering, our method produces the desired Floquet Hamiltonian at any driving frequency and is not r…
Recent work [M. H. Kolodrubetz et al, PRL 120, 150601] has demonstrated that periodically driven one-dimensional fermionic systems can support quantized energy pumping resulting from an adiabatic modulation of a second parameter. In this work, we explore this topological Floquet-Thouless energy pump in the quasiperiodic driving regime where the parametric driving occurs at finite frequency. We show that quantization of energy pumping persists for finite ramping frequencies, as long as they are incommensurate with the driving frequency, and the system remains localized by spatial disorder. Thus…
Counterdiabatic (CD) driving presents a way of generating adiabatic dynamics at arbitrary pace, where excitations due to non-adiabaticity are exactly compensated by adding an auxiliary driving term to the Hamiltonian. While this CD term is theoretically known and given by the adiabatic gauge potential, obtaining and implementing this potential in many-body systems is a formidable task, requiring knowledge of the spectral properties of the instantaneous Hamiltonians and control of highly nonlocal multibody interactions. We show how an approximate gauge potential can be systematically built up a…
Majorana edge modes are candidate elements of topological quantum computing. In this work, we purpose a Floquet engineering approach to generate arbitrarily many non-Hermitian Majorana zero and $π$ modes at the edges of a one-dimensional topological superconductor. Focusing on a Kitaev chain with periodically kicked superconducting pairings and gain/losses in the chemical potential or nearest neighbor hopping terms, we found rich non-Hermitian Floquet topological superconducting phases, which are originated from the interplay between drivings and non-Hermitian effects. Each of the phases is ch…

Second-order topological insulator (SOTI) is featured with the presence of $(d-2)$-dimensional boundary states in $d$-dimension systems. The non-Hermiticity induced breakdown of bulk-boundary correspondence (BBC) and the periodic driving on systems generally obscure the description of non-Hermitian SOTI. To prompt the applications of SOTIs, we explore the role of periodic driving in controllably creating exotic non-Hermitian SOTIs both for 2D and 3D systems. A scheme to retrieve the BBC and a complete description to SOTIs via the bulk topology of such nonequilibrium systems are proposed. It is…
We investigate the transition induced by disorder in a periodically-driven one-dimensional model displaying quantized topological transport. We show that, while instantaneous eigenstates are necessarily Anderson localized, the periodic driving plays a fundamental role in delocalizing Floquet states over the whole system, henceforth allowing for a steady state nearly-quantized current. Remarkably, this is linked to a localization/delocalization transition in the Floquet states of a one dimensional driven Anderson insulator, which occurs for periodic driving corresponding to a nontrivial loop in…
In Floquet engineering, periodic driving is used to realize novel phases of matter which are inaccessible in thermal equilibrium. For this purpose, the Floquet theory provides us a recipe of obtaining a static effective Hamiltonian. Although many existing works have treated closed systems, it is important to consider the effect of dissipation, which is ubiquitous in nature. Understanding interplay of periodic driving and dissipation is not only a fundamental problem of nonequilibrium statistical physics, but also receiving growing interest because of the fact that experimental advances have al…
The striking nonlinear effects exhibited by cavity QED systems make them a powerful tool in modern condensed matter and atomic physics. A recently discovered example is the quantized pumping of energy into a cavity by a strongly-coupled, periodically-driven spin. We uncover a remarkable feature of these energy pumps: they coherently translate, or boost, a quantum state of the cavity in the Fock basis. Current optical cavity and circuit QED experiments can realize the required Hamiltonian in a rotating frame. Boosting thus enables the preparation of highly-excited non-classical cavity states in…
