We investigate the interior structure of asymptotically flat hairy black holes (HBHs) arising in the Einstein-Klein-Gordon theory with nonpositive-definite scalar potentials, where nontrivial scalar hair exists at the event horizon. While exterior properties, including shadow imaging for HBHs supported by an inverted Higgs-like potential have been extensively investigated, their interior structure remains largely unexplored. In many gravitational theories, backreaction of classical fields can significantly eliminate the Cauchy horizon, which is known to be highly unstable due to the mass inflation effect, raising important questions regarding the validity of the Strong Cosmic Censorship conjecture. These considerations motivate us to examine the interior structure of HBHs by numerically integrating the field equations inward from the outer horizon. We find that the scalar field and the metric functions increase monotonically inside the horizon and diverge as $r \rightarrow 0$. The Ricci and Kretschmann scalars also diverge at $r=0$, confirming the presence of a genuine curvature singularity. No additional root of the metric function is observed, indicating the absence of a Cauchy horizon in the electrically neutral HBHs considered here. Furthermore, the weak energy condition is violated throughout the interior region, and the degree of violation becomes more pronounced as the scalar field at the horizon increases. These results provide new insight into the global structure of HBHs and their implications for cosmic censorship.

In this paper, we investigate the internal structure of a charged hairy black hole solution in the non-linear massive gravity. We first consider the impact of various configurations of massive gravity on the condensate operator and then probe the black hole interior dynamics. Like a standard holographic superconductor system, just below the critical temperature, the interior evolves through several distinct epochs, including a collapse of the Einstein-Rosen bridge, Josephson oscillations of the scalar field, and finally a Kasner (or Kasner inversion) cosmology. However, for the large massive g…
We study the interior of a recently constructed family of asymptotically flat, charged black holes that develop (charged) scalar hair as one increases their charge at fixed mass. Inside the horizon, these black holes resemble the interior of a holographic superconductor. There are analogs of the Josephson oscillations of the scalar field, and the final Kasner singularity depends very sensitively on the black hole parameters near the onset of the instability. In an Appendix, we give a general argument that Cauchy horizons cannot exist in a large class of stationary black holes with scalar hair.
We investigate the interior of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet charged black-hole with scalar hair. We find a variety of dynamical epochs, with the particular important feature that the Cauchy horizon is not present. This makes the violation of the no-hair theorem a possible tool to understand how might the strong cosmic censorship conjecture work.
Large gauge transformations (LGT) in asymptotically flat space are generated by charges defined at asymptotic infinity. No method for unambiguously localising these charges into the interior of spacetime has previously been established. We determine what this method must be, and use it to find localised expressions for the LGT charges. Applying the same principle to the case of a charged black hole spacetime leads to angle-dependent generalisations of the Smarr formula and the first law of black hole mechanics, both of which have important thermodynamical implications. In particular, the prese…
A large class of stationary, non-rotating black hole metrics is proposed, in which the interior is regular with a core consisting of a condensate of Higgs and $Z$ bosons generated from the nuclear binding energy of the initial H atoms. Gravitational collapse is prevented by negative pressures from the Higgs condensate and a small imbalance in the distribution of electric charges. Non-condensed, thermal particles are present as well. The approach holds for masses exceeding 0.75 $10^{-4}M_\odot$. The inner horizon sets an inner core of 11 cm, while the characteristic radius of the full core is 2…
We analyze the interior geometry of static, spherically symmetric black holes of the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory. Generically the solutions exhibit a behaviour that may be described as ``mass inflation'', although with a remarkable difference between the cases with and without a Higgs field. Without Higgs field the YM field induces a kind of cyclic behaviour leading to repeated cycles of mass inflation - taking the form of violent explosions - interrupted by quiescent periods and subsequent approaches to an almost Cauchy horizon. With the Higgs field no such cycles occur. In addition ther…
In the context of massive gravity theories, we study holographic flows driven by a relevant scalar operator and interpolating between a UV 3-dimensional CFT and a trans-IR Kasner universe. For a large class of scalar potentials, the Cauchy horizon never forms in presence of a non-trivial scalar hair, although, in absence of it, the black hole solution has an inner horizon due to the finite graviton mass. We show that the instability of the Cauchy horizon triggered by the scalar field is associated to a rapid collapse of the Einstein-Rosen bridge. The corresponding flows run smoothly through th…
We establish a no inner-horizon theorem for black holes with charged scalar hairs. Considering a general gravitational theory with a charged scalar field, we prove that there exists no inner Cauchy horizon for both spherical and planar black holes with non-trivial scalar hair. The hairy black holes approach to a spacelike singularity at late interior time. This result is independent of the form of scalar potentials as well as the asymptotic boundary of spacetimes. We prove that the geometry near the singularity takes a universal Kasner form when the kinetic term of the scalar hair dominates, w…
Einstein gravity supplemented by a scalar field non-minimally coupled to a Gauss-Bonnet term provides an example of model of scalar-tensor gravity where hairy black holes do exist. We consider the classical equations within a metric endowed with a NUT-charge and obtain a two-parameter family of nutty-hairy black holes. The pattern of these solutions in the exterior and the interior of their horizon is studied in some details. The influence of both -- the hairs and the NUT-charge -- on the lightlike and timelike geodesics is emphasized.
For a theory in which a scalar field $ϕ$ has a nonminimal derivative coupling to the Einstein tensor $G_{μν}$ of the form $ϕ\,G_{μν}\nabla^μ\nabla^ν ϕ$, it is known that there exists a branch of static and spherically-symmetric relativistic stars endowed with a scalar hair in their interiors. We study the stability of such hairy solutions with a radial field dependence $ϕ(r)$ against odd- and even-parity perturbations. We show that, for the star compactness ${\cal C}$ smaller than $1/3$, they are prone to Laplacian instabilities of the even-parity perturbation associated with the scalar-field …
