We study two central qubits interacting with a transverse-field Ising chain that serves as their environment. The environment is driven linearly in time across its quantum critical points (QCPs) and, during the evolution, is subjected to quantum reset (QR), where it is returned at random times to its initial state. We investigate how such QR of the environmental spin chain modifies the dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord between the qubits. Our results show that in the strong-coupling regime, entanglement and discord exhibit pronounced revivals within the interval bounded by the Ising QCPs, but these revivals diminish as the QR rate increases. In contrast, weak coupling leads to a monotonic reduction of quantum correlations. Numerically, we find that the revival peaks of concurrence decay and scale exponentially with the QR rate, while quantum discord shows no clear scaling behavior. In the weak-coupling regime without QR, the correlations decay monotonically as the driven field crosses the second QCP. When QR is applied, however, both entanglement and discord undergo oscillatory suppression, with the oscillation period increasing as either the QR rate or the ramp time scale is reduced.
We study a non-interacting quantum particle, moving on a one-dimensional lattice, which is subjected to repetitive measurements. We investigate the consequence when such motion is interrupted and restarted from the same initial configuration, known as the quantum resetting problem. We show that such systems can be described by the time evolution under certain time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We construct two such Hamiltonians and compare the results with the exact dynamics. Using this effective non-Hermitian description we evaluate the timescale of the survival probability as well as…

In this work, we study in the framework of the so-called driven tight-binding chain (TBC) the issue of quantum unitary dynamics interspersed at random times with stochastic resets mimicking non-unitary evolution due to interactions with the external environment, The driven TBC involves a quantum particle hopping between the nearest-neighbour sites of a one-dimensional lattice and subject to an external forcing field that is periodic in time. We consider the resets to be taking place at exponentially-distributed random times. Using the method of stochastic Liouville equation, we derive exact re…
Qubit reset is crucial at the start of and during quantum information algorithms. We present the experimental demonstration of a practical method to force qubits into their ground state, based on driving certain qubit and cavity transitions. Our protocol, called the double drive reset of population is tested on a superconducting transmon qubit in a three-dimensional cavity. Using a new method for measuring population, we show that we can prepare the ground state with a fidelity of at least 99.5 % in less than 3 microseconds; faster times and higher fidelity are predicted upon parameter optimiz…

We consider Markovian open quantum systems subject to stochastic resetting, which means that the dissipative time evolution is reset at randomly distributed times to the initial state. We show that the ensuing dynamics is non-Markovian and has the form of a generalized Lindblad equation. Interestingly, the statistics of quantum-jumps can be exactly derived. This is achieved by combining techniques from the thermodynamics of quantum-jump trajectories with the renewal structure of the resetting dynamics. We consider as an application of our analysis a driven two-level and an intermittent three-l…
This paper is devoted to the analysis of Lindblad operators of Quantum Reset Models, describing the effective dynamics of tri-partite quantum systems subject to stochastic resets. We consider a chain of three independent subsystems, coupled by a Hamiltonian term. The two subsystems at each end of the chain are driven, independently from each other, by a reset Lindbladian, while the center system is driven by a Hamiltonian. Under generic assumptions on the coupling term, we prove the existence of a unique steady state for the perturbed reset Lindbladian, analytic in the coupling constant. We fu…
Using a circuit QED device, we demonstrate a simple qubit measurement pulse shape that yields fast ring-up and ring-down of the readout resonator regardless of the qubit state. The pulse differs from a square pulse only by the inclusion of additional constant-amplitude segments designed to effect a rapid transition from one steady-state population to another. Using a Ramsey experiment performed shortly after the measurement pulse to quantify the residual population, we find that compared to a square pulse followed by a delay, this pulse shape reduces the timescale for cavity ring-down by more …
One strategy to fit larger problems on NISQ devices is to exploit a tradeoff between circuit width and circuit depth. Unfortunately, this tradeoff still limits the size of tractable problems since the increased depth is often not realizable before noise dominates. Here, we develop qubit-efficient quantum algorithms for entanglement spectroscopy which avoid this tradeoff. In particular, we develop algorithms for computing the trace of the n-th power of the density operator of a quantum system, $Tr(ρ^n)$, (related to the Rényi entropy of order n) that use fewer qubits than any previous efficient…
The generation rate of entangled photons emitted from cascaded few-level systems is intrinsically limited by the lifetime of the radiative transitions. Here, we overcome this limit for entangled photon pairs from quantum dots via a novel driving regime based on an active reset of the radiative cascade. We show theoretically and experimentally the driving regime to enable the generation of entangled photon pairs with higher fidelity and intensity compared to the optimum continuously driven equilibrium state. Finally, we electrically generate entangled photon pairs with a total fidelity of $(79.…

Motion of randomly-driven quantum nonlinear pendulum is considered. Utilizing one-step Poincaré map, we demonstrate that classical phase space corresponding to a single realization of the random perturbation involves domains of finite-time stability. Statistical analysis of the finite-time evolution operator (FTEO) is carried out in order to study influence of finite-time stability on quantum dynamics. It is shown that domains of finite-time stability give rise to ordered patterns in distributions of FTEO eigenfunctions. Transition to global chaos is accompanied by smearing of these patterns; …
We study the dynamics of a quantum walker simultaneously subjected to time-independent and -dependent phases. Such dynamics emulates a charged quantum particle in a lattice subjected to a superposition of static and harmonic electric fields. With proper settings, we investigate the possibility to induce Bloch-like super-oscillations, resulting from a close tuning of the frequency of the harmonic phase $ω$ and that associated with the regular Bloch-like oscillations $ω_B$ . By exploring the frequency spectra of the wavepacket centroid, we are able to distinguish the regimes on which regular and…
The driven-dissipative many-body problem remains one of the most challenging unsolved problems in quantum mechanics. The advent of quantum computers may provide a unique platform for efficiently simulating such driven-dissipative systems. But there are many choices for how one can engineer the reservoir. One can simply employ ancilla qubits to act as a reservoir and then digitally simulate them via algorithmic cooling. A more attractive approach, which allows one to simulate an infinite reservoir, is to integrate out the bath degrees of freedom and describe the driven-dissipative system via a …
We discuss the universal nature of relaxation in isolated many-body quantum systems subjected to global and strong periodic driving. Our rigorous Floquet analysis shows that the energy of the system remains almost constant up to an exponentially long time in frequency for arbitrary initial states and that an effective Hamiltonian obtained by a truncation of the Floquet-Magnus expansion is a quasi-conserved quantity for long time scale. These two general properties lead to intriguing classification on the initial stage of relaxation, one of which is similar to the prethermalization phenomenon i…
Motion of an atomic ensemble trapped into a deep optical lattice is considered. We propose a novel approach to construct an atomic ratchet by superimposing two additional lattices whose amplitudes are small and subjected to broadband modulation. The broadband modulation is modeled by means of harmonic noise. Directed atomic transport occurs with the properly chosen phase shift between the signals modulating the amplitudes of the additional lattices. It is shown that efficiency of the ratchet depends non-monotonously on the parameter determining the spectral width of modulating signals.
We study the dissipative dynamics of a single quantum harmonic oscillator subjected to a parametric driving with in an effective Hamiltonian approach. Using Liouville von Neumann approach, we show that the time evolution of a parametrically driven dissipative quantum oscillator has a strong connection with the classical damped Mathieu equation. Based on the numerical analysis of the Monodromy matrix, we demonstrate that the dynamical instability generated by the parametric driving are reduced by the effect of dissipation. Further, we obtain a closed relationship between the localization of the…
We study the recently discovered phenomena of sudden death of entanglement for a system of two qubits, each of them independently longitudinally damped by a reservoir and subjected to a continuous driving. We show that driving produces, in the interaction picture, an effective bath that has elements amounting to various extra sources of noise (transverse, thermal squeezed, thermal longitudinal). As a result, the time of sudden death decreases due to driving, which we verify as well by direct numerical calculation. We suggest that this phenomenon can be studied systematically using superconduct…
We analyze a one-dimensional quantum model with off-diagonal disorder, consisting of a sequence of potential energy barriers whose width is a random variable either uniformly or "half-normally" distributed, subjected to an external electric field. We shed light on how the microscopic disorder affects the value of the transmission coefficient, and on the structure of the fluctuations around the solutions corresponding to the regular lattice configuration. We also characterize the asymptotic limit obtained by letting the number of barriers diverge, while their total width is kept constant. Thus,…
We consider the dynamics of a particle confined in a double well potential which is subjected to a periodic drive. In the case of deep and well separated wells, we find that by adjusting the parameters of the drive we can generate, to a very good approximation, a volcano potential. The quantum dynamics in this volcano potential is studied by a variation of what can be called a generalized Ehrenfest's theorem. We find that the coupling of the mean position and the width of the wave packet in this dynamics causes the particle to escape from the central well in accordance with the fact that the v…
We study microwave-driven cooling in a superconducting flux qubit subjected to environment noises. For the weak decoherence, our analytical results agree well with the experimental observations near the degeneracy point and show that the microwave amplitude for optimal cooling should depend linearly on the dc flux detuning. With the decoherence increasing, more vibrational degrees of freedom couple in, making the ordinary cooling method less effective or even fail. We propose an improved cooling method, which can eliminate the perturbation of additional vibrational degrees of freedom hence kee…
We consider multiple-period states in systems of periodically modulated qubits. In such states the discrete time-translation symmetry imposed by the modulation is broken. We explicitly show how multiple-period states emerge in the simplest quantum system, a single qubit subjected to a pulsed resonant modulation and/or a pulsed modulation of the transition frequency. We also show that a qubit chain with the qubit coupling modulated at twice the qubit frequency has symmetry that allows mapping it on the Kitaev chain and thus provides an example of a topologically nontrivial Floquet system. An ex…
