Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) motion artifacts can seriously affect clinical diagnostics, making it challenging to interpret images accurately. Existing methods for eliminating motion artifacts struggle to retain fine structural details and simultaneously lack the necessary vividness and sharpness. In this study, we present a novel dual-domain optimization (DDO) approach that integrates information from the pixel and frequency domains guiding the recovery of clean magnetic resonance images through implicit neural representations(INRs). Specifically, our approach leverages the low-frequency components in the k-space as a reference to capture accurate tissue textures, while high-frequency and pixel information contribute to recover details. Furthermore, we design complementary masks and dynamic loss weighting transitioning from global to local attention that effectively suppress artifacts while retaining useful details for reconstruction. Experimental results on the NYU fastMRI dataset demonstrate that our method outperforms existing approaches in multiple evaluation metrics. Our code is available at https://anonymous.4open.science/r/DDO-IN-A73B.
Compression artifacts arise in images whenever a lossy compression algorithm is applied. These artifacts eliminate details present in the original image, or add noise and small structures; because of these effects they make images less pleasant for the human eye, and may also lead to decreased performance of computer vision algorithms such as object detectors. To eliminate such artifacts, when decompressing an image, it is required to recover the original image from a disturbed version. To this end, we present a feed-forward fully convolutional residual network model trained using a generative…

Limited-angle computed tomography (CT) is often used in clinical applications such as C-arm CT for interventional imaging. However, CT images from limited angles suffers from heavy artifacts due to incomplete projection data. Existing iterative methods require extensive calculations but can not deliver satisfactory results. Based on the observation that the artifacts from limited angles have some directional property and are globally distributed, we propose a novel multi-scale wavelet domain residual learning architecture, which compensates for the artifacts. Experiments have shown that the pr…

Face morphing attacks aim at creating face images that are verifiable to be the face of multiple identities, which can lead to building faulty identity links in operations like border checks. While creating a morphed face detector (MFD), training on all possible attack types is essential to achieve good detection performance. Therefore, investigating new methods of creating morphing attacks drives the generalizability of MADs. Creating morphing attacks was performed on the image level, by landmark interpolation, or on the latent-space level, by manipulating latent vectors in a generative adver…

Recently, both supervised and unsupervised deep learning methods have been widely applied on the CT metal artifact reduction (MAR) task. Supervised methods such as Dual Domain Network (Du-DoNet) work well on simulation data; however, their performance on clinical data is limited due to domain gap. Unsupervised methods are more generalized, but do not eliminate artifacts completely through the sole processing on the image domain. To combine the advantages of both MAR methods, we propose an unpaired dual-domain network (U-DuDoNet) trained using unpaired data. Unlike the artifact disentanglement …

Electroencephalography (EEG) measures the electrical brain activity in real-time by using sensors placed on the scalp. Artifacts, due to eye movements and blink, muscular/cardiac activity and generic electrical disturbances, have to be recognized and eliminated to allow a correct interpretation of the useful brain signals (UBS) of EEG. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is effective to split the signal into independent components (ICs) whose re-projections on 2D scalp topographies (images), also called topoplots, allow to recognize/separate artifacts and by UBS. Until now, IC topoplot analys…
Finding tampered regions in images is a hot research topic in machine learning and computer vision. Although many image manipulation location algorithms have been proposed, most of them only focus on the RGB images with different color spaces, and the frequency information that contains the potential tampering clues is often ignored. In this work, a novel end-to-end two-stream boundary-aware network (abbreviated as TBNet) is proposed for generic image manipulation localization in which the RGB stream, the frequency stream, and the boundary artifact location are explored in a unified framework.…
Style transfer has been widely applied to give real-world images a new artistic look. However, given a stylized image, the attempts to use typical style transfer methods for de-stylization or transferring it again into another style usually lead to artifacts or undesired results. We realize that these issues are originated from the content inconsistency between the original image and its stylized output. Therefore, in this paper we advance to keep the content information of the input image during the process of style transfer by the power of steganography, with two approaches proposed: a two-s…

Although deep convolutional neural network has been proved to efficiently eliminate coding artifacts caused by the coarse quantization of traditional codec, it's difficult to train any neural network in front of the encoder for gradient's back-propagation. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end image compression framework based on convolutional neural network to resolve the problem of non-differentiability of the quantization function in the standard codec. First, the feature description neural network is used to get a valid description in the low-dimension space with respect to the ground-tr…

Multi-view image-based rendering consists in generating a novel view of a scene from a set of source views. In general, this works by first doing a coarse 3D reconstruction of the scene, and then using this reconstruction to establish correspondences between source and target views, followed by blending the warped views to get the final image. Unfortunately, discontinuities in the blending weights, due to scene geometry or camera placement, result in artifacts in the target view. In this paper, we show how to avoid these artifacts by imposing additional constraints on the image gradients of th…

Neural Style Transfer based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) aims to synthesize a new image that retains the high-level structure of a content image, rendered in the low-level texture of a style image. This is achieved by constraining the new image to have high-level CNN features similar to the content image, and lower-level CNN features similar to the style image. However in the traditional optimization objective, low-level features of the content image are absent, and the low-level features of the style image dominate the low-level detail structures of the new image. Hence in the synth…

Photoacoustic (PA) imaging is a biomedical imaging modality capable of acquiring high-contrast images of optical absorption at depths much greater than traditional optical imaging techniques. However, practical instrumentation and geometry limit the number of available acoustic sensors surrounding the imaging target, which results in the sparsity of sensor data. Conventional PA image reconstruction methods give severe artifacts when they are applied directly to the sparse PA data. In this paper, we firstly propose to employ a novel signal processing method to make sparse PA raw data more suita…

Traditional physics-based approaches to infer sub-surface properties such as full-waveform inversion or reflectivity inversion are time-consuming and computationally expensive. We present a deep-learning technique that eliminates the need for these computationally complex methods by posing the problem as one of domain transfer. Our solution is based on a deep convolutional generative adversarial network and dramatically reduces computation time. Training based on two different types of synthetic data produced a neural network that generates realistic velocity models when applied to a real data…

Fluorescence microscopy plays an important role in biomedical research. The depth-variant point spread function (PSF) of a fluorescence microscope produces low-quality images especially in the out-of-focus regions of thick specimens. Traditional deconvolution to restore the out-of-focus images is usually insufficient since a depth-invariant PSF is assumed. This article aims at handling fluorescence microscopy images by learning-based depth-variant PSF and reducing artifacts. We propose adaptive weighting depth-variant deconvolution (AWDVD) with defocus level prediction convolutional neural net…

We report a framework based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) that performs high-fidelity color image reconstruction using a single hologram of a sample that is illuminated simultaneously by light at three different wavelengths. The trained network learns to eliminate missing-phase-related artifacts, and generates an accurate color transformation for the reconstructed image. Our framework is experimentally demonstrated using lung and prostate tissue sections that are labeled with different histological stains. This framework is envisaged to be applicable to point-of-care histopathology…

Recent years have witnessed the significant development of learning-based video compression methods, which aim at optimizing objective or perceptual quality and bit rates. In this paper, we introduce deep video compression with perceptual optimizations (DVC-P), which aims at increasing perceptual quality of decoded videos. Our proposed DVC-P is based on Deep Video Compression (DVC) network, but improves it with perceptual optimizations. Specifically, a discriminator network and a mixed loss are employed to help our network trade off among distortion, perception and rate. Furthermore, nearest-n…

Decreasing projection views to lower X-ray radiation dose usually leads to severe streak artifacts. To improve image quality from sparse-view data, a Multi-domain Integrative Swin Transformer network (MIST-net) was developed in this article. First, MIST-net incorporated lavish domain features from data, residual-data, image, and residual-image using flexible network architectures, where residual-data and residual-image sub-network was considered as data consistency module to eliminate interpolation and reconstruction errors. Second, a trainable edge enhancement filter was incorporated to detec…
