Scalar non-standard neutrino interactions (sNSI) is a scenario where neutrinos can develop a medium dependent contribution to their mass due to a new scalar mediator. This scenario differs from the commonly discussed vector mediator case in that the oscillation effect scales with density rather than density and neutrino energy. Thus the strongest oscillation constraint comes from solar neutrinos which experience the largest density in a neutrino oscillation experiment. We derive constraints on all the sNSI parameters as well as the absolute neutrino mass scale by combining solar and reactor data and find solar neutrinos to be $>1$ order of magnitude more sensitive to sNSI than terrestrial probes such as long-baseline experiments.
We discuss various physics aspects of neutrino oscillation with non-standard interactions (NSI). We formulate a perturbative framework by taking Δm^2_{21} / Δm^2_{31}, s_{13}, and the NSI elements ε_{αβ} (α, β= e, μ, τ) as small expansion parameters of the same order ε. Within the εperturbation theory we obtain the S matrix elements and the neutrino oscillation probability formula to second order (third order in ν_e related channels) in ε. The formula allows us to estimate size of the contribution of any particular NSI element ε_{αbeta} to the oscillation probability in arbitrary channels, and…
We have studied the $CP$ violation discovery reach in neutrino oscillation experiment with superbeam in presence of non-standard interactions of neutrinos with matter for both short and long baselines. For the most important channel of oscillation ($ν_μ\rightarrow ν_e$) for $CP$ violation discovery there is significant effect in the oscillation probability particularly due to NSIs' $\varepsilon_{eμ}$ and $\varepsilon_{eτ}$ for longer baseline and higher energy in comparison to other NSIs'. Interestingly for these two NSIs' (for real and higher allowed values) there is possibility of better dis…
The Non-Standard Interactions (NSIs) are subdominant effects, often appearing in various extensions of SM, which may impact the neutrino oscillations through matter. It is important and interesting to explore the impact of NSIs in the ongoing and upcoming precise neutrino oscillations experiments. In this work, we have studied the imprints of a scalar-mediated NSI in three upcoming long-baseline (LBL) experiments (DUNE, T2HK, T2HKK). The effects of scalar NSI appears as a medium-dependent correction to the neutrino mass term. Its contribution scales linearly with matter density, making LBL exp…
We investigate the potential of the next generation long-baseline neutrino experiments DUNE and T2HK as well as the upcoming reactor experiment JUNO to constrain Non-Standard Interaction (NSI) parameters. JUNO is going to provide the most precise measurements of solar neutrino oscillation parameters as well as determining the neutrino mass ordering. We study how the results of JUNO combined with those of long-baseline neutrino experiments such as DUNE and T2HK can help to determine oscillation parameters and to constrain NSI parameters. We present excluded regions in NSI parameter space, $ε_{α…
The scalar nonstandard interactions (NSI) can also introduce matter effect for neutrino oscillation in a medium. Especially the recent Borexino data prefers nonzero scalar NSI, $η_{ee} = - 0.16$. In contrast to the conventional vector NSI, the scalar type contributes as a correction to the neutrino mass matrix rather than the matter potential. Consequently, the scalar matter effect is energy independent while the vector one scales linearly with neutrino energy. This leads to significantly different phenomenological consequences in reactor, solar, atmospheric, and accelerator neutrino oscillati…
The recently observed event excess in MiniBooNE anti-neutrino data is in agreement with the LSND evidence for electron anti-neutrino appearance. We propose an explanation of these data in terms of a (3+1) scheme with a sterile neutrino including non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) at neutrino production and detection. The interference between oscillations and NSI provides a source for CP violation which we use to reconcile different results from neutrino and anti-neutrino data. Our best fit results imply NSI at the level of a few percent relative to the standard weak interaction, in agree…
MuOn-decay MEdium baseline NeuTrino beam experiment (MOMENT) is a next-generation accelerator neutrino experiment looking for more physics study. We try to simulate neutrino oscillations confronting with Charged-Current\&Non-Standard neutrino Interactions(CC-NSIs) at MOMENT. These NSIs could alter neutrino production and detection processes and get involved in neutrino oscillation channels. We separate a perturbative discussion of oscillation channels at near and far detectors, and analyze parameter correlations with the impact of CC-NSIs. Taking $δ_{cp}$ and $θ_{23}$ as an example, we find th…
We discuss reactor antineutrino oscillations with non-standard interactions (NSIs) at the neutrino production and detection processes. The neutrino oscillation probability is calculated with a parametrization of the NSI parameters by splitting them into the averages and differences of the production and detection processes respectively. The average parts induce constant shifts of the neutrino mixing angles from their true values, and the difference parts can generate the energy (and baseline) dependent corrections to the initial mass-squared differences. We stress that only the shifts of mass-…
The Neutrino oscillations have provided an excellent opportunity to study new-physics beyond the Standard Model, popularly known as BSM. The unknown couplings involving neutrinos, termed non-standard interactions (NSI), may appear as `new-physics' in different neutrino experiments. The neutrino NSI offers significant effects on neutrino oscillations and CP-sensitivity, which may be probed in various neutrino experiments. The idea of neutrinos coupling with a scalar has evolved recently and looks promising. The effects of scalar NSI may appear as a perturbation to the neutrino mass matrix in th…
We have studied the $CP$ violation discovery reach in neutrino oscillation experiment with superbeam, neutrino factory and monoenergetic neutrino beam. For NSI satisfying model-dependent bound for shorter baselines (like CERN-Fréjus set-up ) there is insignificant effect of NSI on the the discovery reach of $CP$ violation due to $δ$. Particularly, for superbeam and neutrino factory we have also considered relatively longer baselines for which there could be significant NSI effects on $CP$ violation discovery reach for higher allowed values of NSI. For monoenergetic beam only shorter baselines …
For standard interactions of neutrinos with matter bimagic baseline of length about 2540 Km is known to be suitable for getting good discovery limits of neutrino mass hierarchy, $\sin^2 θ_{13}$ and CP violation in the $ν_e \rightarrow ν_μ$ oscillation channel. We discuss how even in presence of non-standard interactions (NSIs) of neutrinos with matter this baseline is found to be suitable for getting these discovery limits. This is because even in presence of NSIs one could get the $ν_e \rightarrow ν_μ$ oscillation probability to be almost independent of CP violating phase $δ$ and $θ_{13}$ for…
We study the sensitivity of the stopped pion source of neutrinos at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI). In particular, we find that simple event counting above threshold can improve constraints on NSI for electron- and muon- flavored NSI, with the strongest constraints arising for flavor-diagonal NSI coupling to $μ$ neutrinos. However, if the detector resolution is sufficient to all for even a coarse spectral study of events, COHERENT will also be sensitive to the mass scale of NSI. We demonstrate that this can yield…
The combined effect of SFP and the non standard neutrino interaction (NSI) on the survival probability of solar electron neutrinos (assumed to be Dirac particles) is examined for various values of $ε_{11}$, $ε_{12}$ and $μB$. It is found that the neutrino survival probability curves affected by SFP and NSI effects individually for some values of the parameters ($ε_{11}$, $ε_{12}$ and $μB$) get close to the standard MSW curve when both effects are combined. Therefore, the combined effect of SFP and NSI needs to be taken into account when the solar electron neutrino data obtained by low energy s…
We study the effects of non-standard interactions (NSI) and the genuine CP phase $δ_D$ in neutrino oscillations at low, $E_ν\lesssim 1\,\mbox{GeV}$, and very low, $E_ν\lesssim 0.1\,\mbox{GeV}$, energies. For experimental setup with baseline and neutrino energy tuned to the first 1-3 oscillation maximum, we develop a simple analytic formalism to show the effects of NSI. The vacuum mimicking and its violation as well as the use of the separation basis play a central role in our formalism. The NSI corrections that affect the CP phase measurement mainly come from the violation of vacuum mimicking …
We study the possible constraints on non-standard interaction(NSIs) in a model independent way by considering the recent results from T2K and Daya Bay neutrino oscillations experiments. Using perturbation method we present generic formulas (suitable for T2K baseline and for large $θ_{13}$ as evident from Daya Bay) for the probability of oscillation for $ν_μ\rightarrow ν_e$, taking into account NSIs at source ($ε^s$), detector ($ε^d$) and during propagation ($ε^m$) of neutrinos through matter. Two separate cases of perturbation with small (slightly large) NSI ($ε_{αβ}^m \sim 0.03(0.18)$) are di…

We consider the impact of neutral-current (NC) non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) on the determination of the neutrino mass ordering. We show that in presence of NSI there is an exact degeneracy which makes it impossible to determine the neutrino mass ordering and the octant of the solar mixing angle $θ_{12}$ at oscillation experiments. The degeneracy holds at the probability level and for arbitrary matter density profiles, and hence, solar, atmospheric, reactor, and accelerator neutrino experiments are affected simultaneously. The degeneracy requires order-one corrections from NSI to th…
Current neutrino experiments measure the neutrino mixing parameters with an unprecedented accuracy. The upcoming generation of experiments will be sensitive to subdominant effects that can give information on the unknown neutrino parameters: the Dirac CP-violating phase, the mass ordering and the $θ_{23}$ octant. Determining the exact values of neutrino mass and mixing parameters is crucial to test neutrino models and flavor symmetries. In the first part of this review, we summarize the current status of neutrino oscillation parameters. We consider the most recent data from solar experiments a…
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) is a leading experiment in neutrino physics which is presently under construction. DUNE aims to measure the yet unknown parameters in the three flavour oscillation scenario which includes discovery of leptonic CP violation, determination of the mass hierarchy and determination of the octant of $θ_{23}$. Additionally, the ancillary goals of DUNE include probing the sub-dominant effects induced by new physics. A widely studied new physics scenario is that of nonstandard neutrino interactions (NSI) in propagation which impacts the oscillations of ne…
We propose a new approach to probe neutral-current non-standard neutrino interaction parameter $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ using the oscillation dip and oscillation valley. Using the simulated ratio of upward-going and downward-going reconstructed muon events at the upcoming ICAL detector, we demonstrate that the presence of non-zero $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ would result in the shift in the dip location as well as the bending of the oscillation valley. Thanks to the charge identification capability of ICAL, the opposite shifts in the locations of oscillation dips as well as the contrast in the curvatures of …
We study non-standard interactions (NSIs) at reactor neutrino experiments, and in particular, the mimicking effects on θ_13. We present generic formulas for oscillation probabilities including NSIs from sources and detectors. Instructive mappings between the fundamental leptonic mixing parameters and the effective leptonic mixing parameters are established. In addition, NSI corrections to the mixing angles θ_13 and θ_12 are discussed in detailed. Finally, we show that, even for a vanishing θ_13, an oscillation phenomenon may still be observed in future short baseline reactor neutrino experimen…
Neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) with the first generation of standard model fermions can span a parameter space of large dimension and exhibit degeneracies that cannot be broken by a single class of experiment. Oscillation experiments, together with neutrino scattering experiments, can merge their observations into a highly informational dataset to combat this problem. We consider combining neutrino-electron and neutrino-nucleus scattering data from the Borexino and COHERENT experiments, including a projection for the upcoming coherent neutrino scattering measurement at the CENNS-10 l…
We explore the role of matter effect in the evolution of neutrino oscillation parameters in the presence of lepton-flavor-conserving and lepton-flavor-violating neutral-current non-standard interactions (NSI) of the neutrino. We derive simple approximate analytical expressions showing the evolution/running of mass-mixing parameters in matter with energy in the presence of standard interactions (SI) and SI+NSI (considering both positive and negative values of real NSI parameters). We observe that only the NSI parameters in the (2,3) block, namely $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ and $(γ- β) \equiv (\varepsil…
Non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs), the sub-leading effects in the flavour transitions of neutrinos, play a crucial role in the determination of the various unknowns in neutrino oscillations, such as neutrino mass hierarchy, Dirac CP violating phase and the octant of atmospheric mixing angle. In this work, we focus on the possible implications of lepton flavour violating (LFV) NSIs, which generally affect the neutrino propagation, on the determination of the these unknown oscillation parameters. We study the effect of these NSIs on the physics potential of the currently running and upco…
We present perturbative oscillation probabilities for electron and muon channels including non-standard interaction (NSI) effects. The perturbation was performed in standard parameters $Δm^2_{21}/Δm^2_{31}$ and $\sin^2{(θ_{13})}$ as in non-standard interaction couplings. Our goal is to match non-standard parameters with the standard ones. This leads to oscillation probabilities with NSI compact and with functional structure similar to the Standard Oscillation (SO) case. Such formalism allows us to recognize degeneracies between standard oscillation parameters and NSI parameters. In such scenar…
We present the results of a systematic study of the constraints on neutrino neutral-current non-standard interactions (NSI) that can be obtained from the analysis of the COHERENT spectral and temporal data. First, we consider the general case in which all the ten relevant neutral-current NSI parameters are considered as free. We show that they are very weakly constrained by the COHERENT data because of possible cancellations between the up and down quark contributions. However, the up-down average parameters are relatively well constrained and the strongest constraints are obtained for an appr…
We study the matter effect caused by non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) in the future solar neutrino experiments, DUNE, HK and MICA. The upcoming reactor experiment, JUNO is expected to provide the most precise measurements of solar neutrino oscillation parameters and is going to open up the era of sub-percent precision in the leptonic mixing sector of the Standard Model (SM). Considering JUNO can measure $Δm ^2 _{21}$ and $θ_{12}$ by sub-percent precision and assuming SM as the null hypothesis, we study the possibility to constrain NSI parameters by the future solar neutrino experiments…
In the presence of neutrino Non-Standard Interactions (NSI) with matter, the derivation of neutrino parameters from oscillation data must be reconsidered. In particular, along with the standard solution to neutrino oscillation, another solution known as "LMA--Dark" is compatible with global oscillation data and requires both $θ_{12}>π/4$ and a certain flavor pattern of NSI with an effective coupling comparable to $G_F$. Contrary to conventional expectations, there is a class of models based on a new $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry with a gauge boson of mass of few MeV to few 10 MeV that can viably giv…
One of the main purposes of long-baseline neutrino experiments is to unambiguously measure the CP violating phase in the neutrino sector within the three neutrino oscillation picture. In the presence of physics beyond the Standard Model, the determination of the CP phase will be more difficult, due to the already known degeneracy problem. Working in the framework of non-standard interactions (NSI), we compute the appearance probabilities in an exact analytical formulation and analyze the region of parameters where the confusion problem is present. We also discuss some cases where the falsifica…
The SuperKamiokande atmospheric neutrino measurements leave substantial room for nonstandard interactions (NSI) of neutrinos with matter in the nu_e- nu_tau sector. Large values of the NSI couplings are accommodated if the vacuum oscillation parameters are changed from their standard values. Short and medium baseline neutrino beams can break this degeneracy by measuring the true vacuum oscillation parameters with the muon neutrino disappearance mode, for which the matter effects are negligible or subdominant. These experiments can also search for the nu_e-nu_tau flavor changing effects directl…
In this article we unravel the role of matter effect in neutrino oscillation in the presence of lepton-flavor-conserving, non-universal non-standard interactions (NSI's) of the neutrino. Employing the Jacobi method, we derive approximate analytical expressions for the effective mass-squared differences and mixing angles in matter. It is shown that, within the effective mixing matrix, the Standard Model (SM) W-exchange interaction only affects $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{13}$, while the flavor-diagonal NSI's only affect $θ_{23}$. The CP-violating phase $δ$ remains unaffected. Using our simple and compact …
Non-local correlations in entangled systems are usually captured by measures such as Bell's inequality violation. It was recently shown that in neutrino systems, a measure of non-local advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) can be considered as a stronger measure of non-local correlations as compared to the Bell's inequality violation. In this work, we analyze the effects of non standard interaction (NSI) on these measures in the context of two flavour neutrino oscillations for DUNE, MINOS, T2K, KamLAND, JUNO and Daya Bay experimental set-ups. We find that even in the presence of NSI, Bell's in…
In this article we consider the presence of neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) in the production and detection processes of reactor antineutrinos at the Daya Bay experiment. We report for the first time, the new constraints on the flavor non-universal and flavor universal charged-current NSI parameters, estimated using the currently released 621 days of Daya Bay data. New limits are placed assuming that the new physics effects are just inverse of each other in the production and detection processes. With this special choice of the NSI parameters, we observe a shift in the oscillation amp…
In the presence of non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI), oscillation data are affected by a degeneracy which allows the solar mixing angle to be in the second octant (aka the dark side) and implies a sign flip of the atmospheric mass-squared difference. This leads to an ambiguity in the determination of the ordering of neutrino masses, one of the main goals of the current and future experimental neutrino program. We show that the recent observation of coherent neutrino--nucleus scattering by the COHERENT experiment, in combination with global oscillation data, excludes the NSI degeneracy a…
We present, both exactly and approximately, a complete set of mappings between the vacuum (or fundamental) leptonic mixing parameters and the effective ones in matter with non-standard neutrino interaction (NSI) effects included. Within the three-flavor neutrino framework and a constant matter density profile, a full set of sum rules is established, which enables us to reconstruct the moduli of the effective leptonic mixing matrix elements, in terms of the vacuum mixing parameters in order to reproduce the neutrino oscillation probabilities for future long-baseline experiments. Very compact, b…
We discuss the analytical expression of the oscillation probabilities at low energy long baseline experiments, such as T2HK and T2HKK in the presence of nonstandard interactions (NSIs). We show that these experiments are advantageous to explore the NSI parameters ($ε_D$, $ε_N$), which were suggested to be nonvanishing to account for the discrepancy between the solar neutrino and KamLAND data. We also show that, when the NSI parameters are small, parameter degeneracy in the CP phase $δ$, $ε_D$ and $ε_N$ can be resolved by combining data of the T2HK and T2HKK experiments.
ORCA (Oscillations Research with Cosmics in the Abyss) is the low-energy node of KM3NeT, the next generation underwater Cherenkov neutrino detector in the Mediterranean sea. The primary goal of KM3NeT-ORCA is the determination of the neutrino mass ordering (NMO). With an energy threshold of few GeV and an effective mass of several Mtons, KM3NeT-ORCA can also make precision measurements of atmospheric oscillation parameters. Moreover, its access to a wide range of energies and baselines makes it optimal to discover exotic physics beyond the Standard Model such as Non-Standard Interactions (NSI)…
Neutrino oscillation in the matter could get affected by the sub-dominant, yet unknown, non-standard interactions. The upcoming long-baseline (LBL) neutrino experiments will be sensitive to these effects and can provide information on the unknown oscillation parameter values. In this article, we study the parameter degeneracies that can occur in DUNE, T2HK experiments, and a combination of both due to nonstandard interactions (NSI), arising simultaneously, from two different off-diagonal sectors, i.e., $e-μ$ and $e-τ$. We derive constraints on both the NSI sectors using the combined datasets o…
We investigate Non-Standard Neutrino Interactions (NSI) arising from a flavor-sensitive $Z'$ boson of a new $U(1)'$ symmetry. We compare the limits from neutrino oscillations, coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering, and $Z'$ searches at different beam and collider experiments for a variety of straightforward anomaly-free $U(1)'$ models generated by linear combinations of $B-L$ and lepton-family-number differences $L_α-L_β$. Depending on the flavor structure of those models it is easily possible to avoid NSI signals in long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments or change the relative …
We formulate an alternative approach based on unitarity triangles to describe neutrino oscillations in presence of non-standard interactions (NSI). Using perturbation theory, we derive the expression for the oscillation probability in case of NSI and cast it in terms of the three independent parameters of the leptonic unitarity triangle (LUT). The form invariance of the probability expression (even in presence of new physics scenario as long as the mixing matrix is unitary) facilitates a neat geometric view of neutrino oscillations in terms of LUT. We examine the regime of validity of perturba…
Non-standard interactions (NSIs) in the propagation of neutrinos in matter can lead to significant deviations in neutrino oscillations expected within the standard 3-neutrino framework. These additional interactions would result in an anomalous flux of neutrinos observable at neutrino telescopes. The ANTARES detector and its next-generation successor, KM3NeT, located in the abyss of the Mediterranean Sea, have the potential to measure sub-dominant effects in neutrino oscillations, coming from non-standard neutrino interactions. In this contribution, a likelihood-based search for NSIs with 10 y…
A natural realization of CPT violation in neutrino oscillation can arise due to the coupling to a light scalar or vector dark matter (DM). The dark non-standard interaction (NSI) is associated with the $γ_0$ matrix in neutrino's effective propagator and hence corrects the neutrino Hamiltonian as dark matter potential, in the same way as the ordinary matter effect. The effect is, however, inversely proportional to the neutrino energy and hence appears as a correction to the neutrino mass squared. Due to a sign difference in the corrections for neutrino and anti-neutrino modes, the neutrino osci…
Neutrino non-standard interactions (NSI) can be constrained using coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. We discuss here two aspects in this respect, namely the effects of (i) charged current NSI in neutrino production and (ii) CP-violating phases associated with neutral current NSI in neutrino detection. Effects of CP-phases require the simultaneous presence of two different flavor-changing neutral current NSI parameters. Applying these two scenarios to the COHERENT measurement, we derive limits on charged current NSI and find that more data is required to compete with the existing lim…
We study the sensitivity of current and future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments to the effects of dimension six operators affecting neutrino propagation through Earth, commonly referred to as Non-Standard Interactions (NSI). All relevant parameters entering the oscillation probabilities (standard and non-standard) are considered at once, in order to take into account possible cancellations and degeneracies between them. We find that the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment will significantly improve over current constraints for most NSI parameters. Most notably, it will be able t…
Description of neutrino oscillation in the case of Non-Standard neutrino Interaction (NSI) is briefly presented. The NSI causes the entanglement between internal degrees of freedom of neutrinos (mass, spin, flavour) and other accompanying particles in the production and detection processes. In such case neutrinos are mostly in the mixed states. Role of the density matrix in description of neutrino oscillation process is shortly explained.
In neutrino oscillation with non-standard interactions (NSI) the system is enriched with CP violation caused by phases due to NSI in addition to the standard lepton Kobayashi-Maskawa phase δ. In this paper we show that it is possible to disentangle the two CP violating effects by measurement of muon neutrino appearance by a near-far two detector setting in neutrino factory experiments. Prior to the quantitative analysis we investigate in detail the various features of the neutrino oscillations with NSI, but under the assumption that only one of the NSI elements, ε_{e μ} or ε_{e τ}, is present.…
