This paper concerns the Couette flow for 2-D compressible Navier-Stokes equations (N-S) in an infinitely long flat torus $\Torus\times\R$. Compared to the incompressible flow, the compressible Couette flow has a stronger lift-up effect and weaker dissipation. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no work on the nonlinear stability in the cases of high Reynolds number until now and only linear stability was known in \cite{ADM2021,ZZZ2022}.In this paper, we study the nonlinear stability of 2-D compressible Couette flow in Sobolev space at high Reynolds numbers. Moreover, we also show the enhanced dissipation phenomenon and stability threshold for the compressible Couette flow.
First, We decompose the perturbation into zero and non-zero modes and obtain two systems for these components, respectively. Different from \cite{ADM2021,ZZZ2022}, we use the anti-derivative technique to study the zero-mode system. We introduce a kind of diffusion wave to remove the excessive mass of the zero-modes and construct coupled diffusion waves along characteristics to improve the resulting time decay rates of error terms and derive a new integrated system \cref{anti}. Secondly, we observe a cancellation with the new system \cref{anti} so that the lift-up effect is weakened. Thirdly, the large time behavior of the zero-modes is obtained by the weighted energy method and a weighted inequality on the heat kernel \cite{HLM2010}.In addition, with the help of the Fourier multipliers method, we can show the enhanced dissipation phenomenon for the non-zero modes by commutator estimates to avoid loss of derivatives. Finally, we complete the higher-order derivative estimates to close the a priori assumptions by the energy method and show the stability threshold.
This note is devoted to the linear stability of the Couette flow for the non-isentropic compressible Euler equations in a domain $\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{R}$. Exploiting the several conservation laws originated from the special structure of the linear system, we obtain a Lyapunov type instability for the density, the temperature, the compressible part of the velocity field, and also obtain an inviscid damping for the incompressible part of the velocity field.
Consider the linear stability of the three dimensional isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations on $\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{T}$. We prove the enhanced dissipation phenomenon for the linearized isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations around the Couette flow $(y, 0, 0)^\top$. Moreover, the lift-up phenomenon is also shown in this paper. Compared with the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations [Ann. of Math.,185(2017), 541--608], the lift-up effect here is stronger due to the loss of the incompressible condition.
We are concerned with the linear stability of the Couette flow for the non-isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations with vanished shear viscosity in a domain $\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{R}$. For a general initial data settled in Sobolev spaces, we obtain a Lyapunov type instability of the density, the temperature, the compressible part of the velocity field, and also obtain an inviscid damping for the incompressible part of the velocity field. Moreover, if the initial density, the initial temperature and the incompressible part of the initial velocity field satisfy some quality relation, …

We consider the motion of a viscous compressible and heat conducting fluid confined in the gap between two rotating cylinders (Taylor-Couette flow). The temperature of the cylinders is fixed but not necessarily constant. We show that the problem admits a time--periodic solution as soon as the ratio of the angular velocities of the two cylinders is a rational number.
In this paper, we consider the stability threshold of the 2D shear flow $(U(y),0)^{\top}$ of the Navier-Stokes equation at high Reynolds number $Re$. When the shear flow is near in Sobolev norm to the Couette flow $(y,0)^{\top}$ in some sense, we prove that if the initial data $u_0$ satisfies $\|u_0-(U(y),0)^{\top}\|\leq εRe^{-1/3}$, then the solution of the 2D Navier-Stokes equation approaches to some shear flow which is also close to the Couette flow for $t\gg Re^{1/3}$, as $t\to\infty$.
In this paper, we study the nonlinear asymptotic stability of the Couette flow in the stably stratified regime, namely the Richardson number $γ^2>\frac{1}{4}$. Precisely, we prove that if the initial perturbation $(u_{in},\vartheta_{in})$ of the Couette flow $v_s=(y,0)$ and the linear temperature $ρ_s=-γ^2y+1$ satisfies $\|u_{in}\|_{H^{s+1}}+\|\vartheta_{in}\|_{H^{s+2}}\leq ε_0ν^{\frac{1}{2}}$, then the asymptotic stability holds.
In this paper, we study the linear stability properties of perturbations around the homogeneous Couette flow for a 2D isentropic compressible fluid in the domain $\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{R}$. In the inviscid case there is a generic Lyapunov type instability for the density and the irrotational component of the velocity field. More precisely, we prove that their $L^2$ norm grows as $t^{1/2}$ and this confirms previous observations in the physics literature. Instead, the solenoidal component of the velocity field experience inviscid damping, meaning that it decays to zero even in the absence of…
In this paper, we study nonlinear stability of the 3D plane Couette flow $(y,0,0)$ at high Reynolds number ${Re}$ in a finite channel $\mathbb{T}\times [-1,1]\times \mathbb{T}$. It is well known that the plane Couette flow is linearly stable for any Reynolds number. However, it could become nonlinearly unstable and transition to turbulence for small but finite perturbations at high Reynolds number. This is so-called Sommerfeld paradox. One resolution of this paradox is to study the transition threshold problem, which is concerned with how much disturbance will lead to the instability of the fl…
The stability threshold for Boussinesq equations around stratified Couette flow with unequal viscosity and thermal diffusivity on $\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{R}^2$

In this paper, we study the nonlinear asymptotic stability of Couette flow for the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with small viscosity $ν>0$ in $\mathbb{T}\times\mathbb{R}$. It's generally known the nonlinear asymptotic stability of the Couette flow depends closely on the size and regularity of the initial perturbation, which yields the stability threshold problem. This work studies the relationship between the size and the regularity of the initial perturbation that makes the nonlinear asymptotic stability holds. More precisely, we proved that if the initial perturbation is in some Ge…
