Hovey's correspondence between model structures and cotorsion pairs in the setting of abelian categories, has been generalized by Nakaoka-Palu, using two cotorsion pairs, to the setting of weakly idempotent complete extriangulated categories, and the aim of the paper is to give an analogous correspondence using one (hereditary) cotorsion pair generalizing in this setting work of Beligiannis-Reiten and Cui, Lu and Zhang. Furthermore, we provide methods to construct model structures from silting objects in weakly idempotent complete extriangulated categories and co-$t$-structures on triangulated categories.
Let $\mathcal B$ be an extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives. We define a proper $m$-term subcategory $\mathcal G$ on $\mathcal B$, which is an extriangulated subcategory. Then we give a correspondence between cotorsion pairs on $\mathcal G$, support $τ$-tilting subcategories on an abelian quotient of $\mathcal G$ when $m=2$. If such $\mathcal G$ is induced by a hereditary cotorsion pair, then we give a correspondence between cotorsion pairs on $\mathcal G$ and intermediate cotorsion pairs on $\mathcal B$ under certain assumptions. At last, we study an important…
It was shown recently that the heart of a twin cotorsion pair on an extriangulated category is semi-abelian. In this article, we consider a special kind of hearts of twin cotorsion pairs induced by $d$-cluster tilting subcategories in extriangulated categories. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for such hearts to be abelian. In particular, we also can see that such hearts are hereditary. As an application, this generalizes the work by Liu in an exact case, thereby providing new insights in a triangulated case.
In this article, we study the heart of a cotorsion pairs on an exact category and a triangulated category in a unified meathod, by means of the notion of an extriangulated category. We prove that the heart is abelian, and construct a cohomological functor to the heart. If the extriangulated category has enough projectives, this functor gives an equivalence between the heart and the category of coherent functors over the coheart modulo projectives. We also show how an n-cluster tilting subcategory of an extriangulated category gives rise to a family of cotorsion pairs with equivalent hearts.
Nakaoka and Palu introduced the notion of extriangulated categories by extracting the similarities between exact categories and triangulated categories. In this paper, we study cotorsion pairs in a Frobenius extriangulated category $\C$. Especially, for a $2$-Calabi-Yau extriangulated category $\C$ with a cluster structure, we describe the cluster substructure in the cotorsion pairs. For rooted cluster algebras arising from $\C$ with cluster tilting objects, we give a one-to-one correspondence between cotorsion pairs in $\C$ and certain pairs of their rooted cluster subalgebras which we call c…
This paper is devoted to constructing some recollements of additive categories associated to concentric twin cotorsion pairs on an extriangulated category. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Chen-Liu-Yang in a triangulated case. Moreover, it highlights new phenomena when it applied to an exact category. Finally, we give some applications to illustrate our main results. In particular, we obtain the Krause's recollement whose the proofs are both elementary and very general.
We give a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories, which is suitable for considering cotorsion pairs, and which we call extriangulated categories. Extension-closed, full subcategories of triangulated categories are examples of extriangulated categories. We give a bijective correspondence between some pairs of cotorsion pairs which we call Hovey twin cotorsion pairs, and admissible model structures. As a consequence, these model structures relate certain localizations with certain ideal quotients, via the homotopy category which can be given a triangulated st…
It was shown recently that the heart of a twin cotorsion pair ((S,T),(U,V)) on an extriangulated category is semi-abelian. We provide a sufficient condition for the heart to be integral and another for the heart to be quasi-abelian. This unifies and improves the corresponding results for exact and triangulated categories. Furthermore, if T=U, then we show that the Gabriel-Zisman localisation of the heart at the class of its regular morphisms is equivalent to the heart of the single twin cotorsion pair (S,T). This generalises and improves the known result for triangulated categories, thereby pr…
In this paper, we study (complete) cotorsion pairs in extriangulated categories. First, we study a relationship between an interval of the poset of cotorsion pairs and the poset of cotorsion pairs in the heart associated to the interval. Secondly, we establish a bijection between bounded hereditary cotorsion pairs and silting subcategories in extriangulated categories.
In this paper, we introduce and study relative phantom morphisms in extriangulated categories defined by Nakaoka and Palu. Then using their properties, we show that if $(\C,\E,\s)$ is an extriangulated category with enough injective objects and projective objects, then there exists a bijective correspondence between any two of the following classes: (1) special precovering ideals of $\C$; (2) special preenveloping ideals of $\C$; (3) additive subfunctors of $\E$ having enough special injective morphisms; and (4) additive subfunctors of $\E$ having enough special projective morphisms. Moreover,…

Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. In this paper, we show that the idempotent completion of an extriangulated category admits a natural extriangulated structure. As applications, we prove that cotorsion pairs in an extriangulated category induce cotorsion pairs in its idempotent completion under certain condition, and the idempotent completion of a recollement of extriangulated categories is still a recollement.

We give a simultaneous generalization of recollements of abelian categories and triangulated categories, which we call recollements of extriangulated categories. For a recollement $(\mathcal{A}$, $\mathcal{B}$, $\mathcal{C})$ of extriangulated categories, we show that cotorsion pairs in $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{C}$ induce cotorsion pairs in $\mathcal{B}$ under certain conditions. As an application, our main result recovers a result given by Chen for recollements of triangulated categories, and it also shows a new phenomena when it is applied to abelian categories.
In this article, we initiate the study of hereditary extriangulated categories. Many important categories arising in representation theory in connection with various theories of mutation are hereditary extriangulated. Special cases include homotopy categories of 2-term complexes with projective components, which are related to silting mutation, and cluster categories (with relevant relative extriangulated structures) where cluster tilting mutation take place. We prove that there is a theory of irreducible mutation for maximal rigid objects and subcategories in hereditary extriangulated categor…
A notion of $n$-cotorsion pairs in an extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives is defined in this article. We show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between $n$-cotorsion pairs and $(n+1)$-cluster tilting subcategories. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Huerta, Mendoza and Pérez in an abelian case. Finally, we give some examples illustrating our main result.
Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of left Frobenius pairs on an extriangulated category C, and then establish a bijective correspondence between Frobenius pairs and certain cotorsion pairs in C. As an application, some new admissible model structures are established from left Frobenius pairs under certain conditions, which generalizes a result of Hu et al. (J. Algebra 551 (2020) 23-60).
In this article, we study localizations of hearts of cotorsion pairs (U,V) where U is rigid on an extriangulated category B. The hearts of such cotorsion pairs are equivalent to the functor categories over the stable category of U. Inspired by Marsh and Palu, we consider the mutation of U that induces a cotorsion pair (U',V'). Generally speaking, the hearts of (U,V) and (U',V') are not equivalent to each other, but we will give a generalized pseudo-Morita equivalence between certain localizations of their hearts.
Assume that $(\mathcal{C}, \mathbb{E}, \mathfrak{s})$ is an extriangulated category satisfying Condition (WIC). Let $(\cal Q, \widetilde{\cal R})$ and $(\widetilde{\cal Q}, \cal R)$ be two hereditary cotorsion pairs satisfying conditions $\widetilde{\cal R} \subseteq \cal R$, $\widetilde{\cal Q}\subseteq \cal Q$ and $\widetilde{\cal Q}\cap \cal R = \cal Q \cap \widetilde{\cal R}$. Then there exists a unique thick class $\cal W$ for which $(\cal Q,\cal W,\cal R)$ is a Hovey triple. As an application, this result generalizes the work by Gillespie in an exact case. Moreover, it highlights new phe…
Motivated by its links to $τ$-tilting theory, we introduce a generalization of cotorsion pairs in module categories. Such pairs are also linked to co-t-structures in corresponding triangulated categories, and to cotorsion pairs in certain extension closed (and hence extriangulated) subcategories, which we call two-term categories.
Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a semibrick in an extriangulated category $\mathscr{C}$. Let $\mathcal{T}$ be the filtration subcategory generated by $\mathcal{X}$. We give a one-to-one correspondence between simple semibricks and length wide subcategories in $\mathscr{C}$. This generalizes a bijection given by Ringel in module categories, which has been generalized by Enomoto to exact categories. Moreover, we also give a one-to-one correspondence between cotorsion pairs in $\mathcal{T}$ and certain subsets of $\mathcal{X}$. Applying to the simple minded systems of an triangulated category, we recover a …
Given a complete hereditary cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{B})$ in an abelian category $\mathcal{C}$ satisfying certain conditions, we study the completeness of the induced cotorsion pairs $(Φ(\mathcal{A}), Φ(\mathcal{A})^{\perp})$ and $(^{\perp}Ψ(\mathcal{B}), Ψ(\mathcal{B}) )$ in the category $\mbox{Rep}(Q, \mathcal{C})$ of $\mathcal{C}$-valued representations of a given quiver $Q$. We show that if $Q$ is left rooted, then the cotorsion pair $(Φ(\mathcal{A}), Φ(\mathcal{A})^{\perp})$ is complete, and if $Q$ is right rooted, then the cotorsion pair $(^{\perp}Ψ(\mathcal{B}), Ψ(\mathcal…
Let $\mathsf{T}$ be a triangulated category with shift functor $Σ\colon \mathsf{T} \to \mathsf{T}$. Suppose $(\mathsf{A},\mathsf{B})$ is a co-t-structure with coheart $\mathsf{S} = Σ\mathsf{A} \cap \mathsf{B}$ and extended coheart $\mathsf{C} = Σ^2 \mathsf{A} \cap \mathsf{B} = \mathsf{S} * Σ\mathsf{S}$, which is an extriangulated category. We show that there is a bijection between co-t-structures $(\mathsf{A}',\mathsf{B}')$ in $\mathsf{T}$ such that $\mathsf{A} \subseteq \mathsf{A}' \subseteq Σ\mathsf{A}$ and complete cotorsion pairs in the extended coheart $\mathsf{C}$. In the case that $\mat…
Extriangulated category was introduced by Nakaoka and Palu to give a unification of properties in exact categories and triangulated categories. A notion of tilting (or cotilting) subcategories in an extriangulated category is defined in this paper. We give a Bazzoni characterization of tilting (or cotilting) subcategories and obtain an Auslander-Reiten correspondence between tilting (cotilting) subcategories and coresolving covariantly (resolving contravariantly, resp.) finite subcatgories which are closed under direct summands and satisfies some cogenerating (generating, resp.) conditons. App…
Given a finite dimensional algebra $A$ over a field $k$, and a finite acyclic quiver $Q$, let $Λ= A\otimes_k kQ/I$, where $kQ$ is the path algebra of $Q$ over $k$ and $I$ is a monomial ideal. We show that $(\mathcal X,\mathcal Y)$ is a (complete) hereditary cotorsion pair in $A$-mod if and only if $({\rm smon}(Q,I,\mathcal X), {\rm rep}(Q,I,\mathcal Y))$ is a (complete) hereditary cotorsion pair in $Λ$-mod. We also show that $A$ is left weakly Gorenstein if and only if so is $Λ$. Provided that $kQ/I$ is non-semisimple, the category $^{\perp}Λ$ of semi-Gorenstein-projective $Λ$-modules coincide…
This paper focuses on a question raised by Holm and Jørgensen, who asked if the induced cotorsion pairs $(Φ({\sf X}),Φ({\sf X})^{\perp})$ and $(^{\perp}Ψ({\sf Y}),Ψ({\sf Y}))$ in $\mathrm{Rep}(Q,{\sf{A}})$ -- the category of all $\sf{A}$-valued representations of a quiver $Q$ -- are complete whenever $(\sf X,\sf Y)$ is a complete cotorsion pair in an abelian category $\sf{A}$ satisfying some mild conditions. Recently, Odabaşı gave an affirmative answer if the quiver $Q$ is rooted and the cotorsion pair $(\sf X,\sf Y)$ is further hereditary. In this paper, we improve Odabaşı's work by removing …
Balanced pairs appear naturally in the realm of Relative Homological Algebra associated to the balance of right derived functors of the $\mathsf{Hom}$ functor. A natural source to get such pairs is by means of cotorsion triplets. In this paper we study the connection between balanced pairs and cotorsion triplets by using recent quiver representation techniques. In doing so, we find a new characterization of abelian categories having enough projectives and injectives in terms of the existence of complete hereditary cotorsion triplets. We also give a short proof of the lack of balance for derive…

Let $(\mathscr{X}$, $\mathscr{Y})$ be a balanced pair in an abelian category. We first introduce the notion of cotorsion pairs relative to $(\mathscr{X}$, $\mathscr{Y})$, and then give some equivalent characterizations when a relative cotorsion pair is hereditary or perfect. We prove that if the $\mathscr{X}$-resolution dimension of $\mathscr{Y}$ (resp. $\mathscr{Y}$-coresolution dimension of $\mathscr{X}$) is finite, then the bounded homotopy category of $\mathscr{Y}$ (resp. $\mathscr{X}$) is contained in that of $\mathscr{X}$ (resp. $\mathscr{Y}$). As a consequence, we get that the right $\m…
In an abelian category $\mathscr{A}$ with small ${\rm Ext}$ groups, we show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between any two of the following: balanced pairs, subfunctors $\mathcal{F}$ of ${\rm Ext}^{1}_{\mathscr{A}}(-,-)$ such that $\mathscr{A}$ has enough $\mathcal{F}$-projectives and enough $\mathcal{F}$-injectives and Quillen exact structures $\mathcal{E}$ with enough $\mathcal{E}$-projectives and enough $\mathcal{E}$-injectives. In this case, we get a strengthened version of the translation of the Wakamatsu lemma to the exact context, and also prove that subcategories which a…
