Neutrino propagation in the Galactic and extragalactic magnetic fields is considered. We extend an approach developed in \cite{Popov:2019nkr} to describe neutrino flavour and spin oscillations using wave packets. The evolution equations for the neutrino wave packets in a uniform and non-uniform magnetic fields are derived. The analytical expressions for neutrino flavour and spin oscillations probabilities accounting for damping due to the wave packet separation are obtained for the case of a uniform magnetic field. It is shown that terms in the flavour oscillations probabilities that depend on the magnetic field strength are characterized by two coherence lengths. One of the coherence lengths coincides with the coherence length for neutrino oscillations in vacuum, while the second one is proportional to the cube of the average neutrino momentum $p_0^3$. The probabilities of flavour and spin oscillations are calculated numerically for neutrino interacting with the non-uniform Galactic magnetic field. It is shown that oscillations on certain frequencies are suppressed on the Galactic scale due to the neutrino wave packets separation. The flavour compositions of high-energy neutrino flux coming from the Galactic centre and ultra-high energy neutrinos from an extragalactic sourse are calculated accounting for neutrino interaction with the magnetic field and decoherence due to the wave packet separation. It is shown that for neutrino magnetic moments $\sim 10^{-13} μ_B$ and larger these flavour compositions significantly differ from ones predicted by the vacuum neutrino oscillations scenario.
We propose that gravitational interactions of cosmic neutrinos with the statistically homogeneous and isotropic fluctuations of space-time leads to decoherence. This working hypothesis, which we describe by means of a Lindblad operator, is applied to the system of two- and three-flavour neutrinos undergoing vacuum oscillations and the consequences are investigated. As result of this decoherence we find that the neutrino entropy would increase as a function of initial spectral distortions, mixing angles and CP-violation phase. Subsequently we discuss the chances to discover such an increase obs…
The production of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons in single diffractive processes at the LHC is investigated taking into account the ATLAS, CMS and LHCb acceptances and considering different assumptions for the flavour content of the Pomeron. The total cross sections and pseudorapidity distributions are estimated for $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of the ratio between the $W$ and $Z$ cross sections can be used to probe the flavour content of the Pomeron.
In the Standard Model (SM), the coupling of the electroweak gauge bosons to the leptons is lepton flavour universal. Tests of this property constitute sensitive probes for new physics models that violate lepton flavour universality. Recent tests of lepton universality in rare $b\to s\ell\ell$ decays and semileptonic $b\to cτ\barν_τ$ transitions have shown some tensions with the precise SM predictions. These proceedings summarise the latest results on lepton flavour universality from the LHCb experiment.
We construct the gravity dual of a field theory with flavour in which there are Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) terms present. For this purpose we turn on a constant Kalb-Ramond B field in four internal space directions of AdS_5 x S^5 together with a D7 brane probe wrapping AdS_5 x S^3. The B field induces noncommutativity on the four internal directions of the D7 brane probe perpendicular to the AdS boundary. We argue on general grounds that the moduli space of the Higgs part of mixed Coulomb-Higgs states in the dual field theory at the boundary is described by the ADHM equations for noncommutative ins…
We argue that eta bound states in nuclei are sensitive to the singlet component in the eta. The bigger the singlet component, the more attraction and the greater the binding. Thus, measurements of eta bound states will yield new information about axial U(1) dynamics and glue in mesons. Eta - etaprime mixing plays an important role in understanding the value of the eta-nucleon scattering length.
Heavy flavour production like $J/ψ$ and $D$- meson production in scattering of electrons/unpolarized protons off polarized proton target offer promising probes to investigate gluon Sivers function. In this talk, I will summarize our recent work on trasverse single spin asymmetry in $J/ψ$ -production and $D$ - meson production in $p p^\uparrow$ scattering using a generalized parton model approach. We compare predictions obtained using different models of gluon Sivers function within this approach and then, taking into account the transverse momentum dependent evolution of the unpolarized parton…
We present an in-depth analysis of the flavour and spectral composition of the 36 high-energy neutrino events observed after three years of observation by the IceCube neutrino telescope. While known astrophysical sources of HE neutrinos are expected to produce a nearly $(1:1:1)$ flavour ratio (electron : muon : tau) of neutrinos at earth, we show that the best fits based on the events detected above $E_ν\ge 28$ TeV do not necessarily support this hypothesis. Crucially, the energy range that is considered when analysing the HE neutrino data can have a profound impact on the conclusions. We high…
Models incorporating flavoured dark matter provide an elegant solution to the dark matter problem, evading the tight LHC and direct direction constraints on simple WIMP models. In Dark Minimal Flavour Violation, a simple framework of flavoured dark matter with new sources of flavour violation, the constraints from thermal freeze-out, direct detection experiments, and flavour physics create well-defined benchmark scenarios for these models. We study the LHC phenomenology of four such scenarios, focusing on final states where a single top quark is produced accompanied by no jets, one jet from th…
If the LHC should fail to observe direct signals for new physics, it may become necessary to look for new physics effects in rare events such as flavour-changing decays of the top quark, which, in the Standard Model, are predicted to be too small to be observed. We set up the theoretical framework in which experimentally accessible results can be expected in models of new physics, and go on to discuss two models of supersymmetry -- one with conserved $R$-parity, and one without $R$-parity -- to illustrate how the flavour-changing signals are predicted in these models. In the latter case, there…
We present a lattice analysis of the light pseudoscalar mesons with consideration for the mixing between the flavour-neutral states $π^0$, $η$ and $η^\prime$. We extract the masses and flavour compositions of the pseudoscalar meson nonet in $n_f=1+1+1$ lattice QCD+QED around an SU(3)-flavour symmetric point, and observe flavour-symmetry features of the extracted data, along with preliminary extrapolation results for the flavour compositions at the physical point. A key result of this work is the observed mass splitting between the $π^0$ and $η$ on our ensembles, which is found to exhibit behav…
We discuss the indirect search for new degrees of freedom beyond the standard model, within flavour physics. In particular, we analyse the minimal flavour violation hypothesis and its phenomenological implications, especially the large-tan beta scenario in supersymmetric models, and also compare it with the constrained minimal flavour violation scenario. Moreover, we briefly discuss some recent progress in inclusive b to s transitions and present a status report of the so-called K-pi puzzle.
We show how a precise knowledge of parton distribution functions, in particular those of the u and d quarks, can be used to constrain a certain class of New Physics models in which new heavy charged resonances couple to quarks and leptons. We illustrate the method by considering a left-right symmetric model with a W' from a SU(2)_R gauge sector produced in quark-antiquark annihilation and decaying into a charged lepton and a heavy Majorana neutrino. We discuss a number of quark and lepton mixing scenarios, and simulate both signals and backgrounds in order to determine the size of the expected…
If weak equivalence principle is violated then different types of neutrinos would couple differently with gravity and that may produce a gravity induced oscillation for the neutrinos of different flavour. We explore here the possibility that very small violation of the principle of weak equivalence (VEP) can be probed by ultra high energy neutrinos from distant astrophysical sources. The very long baseline length and the ultra high energies of such neutrinos could be helpful to probe very small VEP. We consider a 4-flavour neutrino scenario (3 active + 1 sterile) with both mass-flavour and gra…
In this work we assess the potential of discovering new physics by searching for lepton-flavour-violating (LFV) decays of the $Z$ boson, $Z\to \ell_i \ell_j$, at the proposed circular $e^+e^-$ colliders CEPC and FCC-ee. Both projects plan to run at the $Z$-pole as a Tera Z factory, i.e., collecting $\mathcal O\left(10^{12}\right)$ $Z$ decays. In order to discuss the discovery potential in a model-independent way, we revisit the LFV $Z$ decays in the context of the Standard Model effective field theory and study the indirect constraints from LFV $μ$ and $τ$ decays on the operators that can indu…
With the deeper study of Higgs particle, Higgs precision measurements can be served to probe new physics indirectly. In many new physics models, vector-like quarks $T_L,~T_R$ occur naturally. It is important to probe their couplings with standard model particles. In this work, we consider the singlet $T_L,~T_R$ extended models and show how to constrain the $Tth$ couplings through the $h\rightarrowγZ$ decay at high-luminosity LHC. Firstly, we derive the perturbative unitarity bounds on $|y_{L,~R}^{tT}|$ with other couplings set to be zeros simply. To optimize the situation, we take $m_T$ = 400 …
Nowadays High Energy Physics experiments can accumulate unprecedented statistics of heavy flavour decays that allows to apply new methods, based on the study of very rare phenomena, which used to be just desperate. In this paper we propose a new method to measure composition of $K^0$-$\overline{K}^0$, produced in a decay of heavy hadrons. This composition contains important information, in particular about weak and strong phases between amplitudes of the produced $K^0$ and $\overline{K}^0$. We consider possibility to measure these parameters with time-dependent $K^0 \to π^+ π^-$ analysis. Due …
That $μ\to e, γ$ and $τ\to μ,γ$ are sensitive probes of SUSY models with a see-saw mechanism is a well accepted fact. Here we propose a `top-down' approach in a general SUSY SO(10) scheme. In this framework, we show that at least one of the neutrino Yukawa couplings is as large as the top Yukawa coupling. This leads to a strong enhancement of these leptonic flavour changing decay rates. We examine two `extreme' cases, where the lepton mixing angles in the neutrino Yukawa couplings are either small (CKM-like) or large (PMNS-like). In these two cases, we quantify the sensitivity of leptonic radi…
The subject of heavy flavour decays as probes for physics beyond the TeV scale is covered from the experimental perspective. Emphasis is placed on the more traditional Beyond the Standard Model topics that have potential for impact in the short term, with the physics explained. We do unabashedly promote our own phemonenology work.
We probe the unification of down quarks and leptons in a supersymmetric SO(10) GUT. The large atmospheric neutrino mixing angle induces bR-sR transitions, which can account for the sizeable CP phase measured in Bs-Bsbar mixing. Corrections to down-quark-lepton unification from higher-dimensional Yukawa terms translate neutrino mixing also into sR-dR and bR-dR currents. We find the flavour structure of Yukawa corrections to be strongly constrained by epsilonK.
With one Δm^2 of the appropriate order of magnitude to solve the atmospheric neutrino problem, we study the resulting three-generation vacuum-oscillation fit to the solar neutrino flux. An explanation of the atmospheric neutrino composition in terms of pure ν_μ\to ν_τoscillations is easily compatible with the well-known two-flavour oscillation solution for solar neutrinos. The allowed parameter region in the \sin^2(2θ_{12})--Δm^2 plane changes little with increasing values of the mixing element U_{e3}, provided this is less than about 0.4. We find that the threefold maximal mixing is disfavour…
We propose a novel method to probe the persistent hints of Lepton Flavour Universality violation observed in semileptonic $B$ decays. Relying on the specific properties of the Belle II experiment, it consists in comparing the inclusive rates of $Υ(4S) \to e^\pm μ^\mp X$, $Υ(4S) \to μ^\pm τ_{\rm had}^\mp X$ and $Υ(4S) \to e^\pm τ_{\rm had}^\mp X$. We show that such a measurement can be directly related to the ratio $R(X)_{τ\ell} \equiv Γ(b\to X τν) / Γ(b \to X \ell ν)$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$), once appropriate experimental cuts are applied to suppress the effects of neutral $B$ mixing and leptons emi…
We study the impact of a type-I SUSY seesaw concerning lepton flavour violation (LFV) at low-energies and at the LHC. At the LHC, $ χ_2^0\to \tilde \ell \,\ell \to \ell \,\ell\,χ_1^0$ decays, in combination with other observables, render feasible the reconstruction of the masses of the intermediate sleptons, and hence the study of $\ell_i - \ell_j$ mass differences. If interpreted as being due to the violation of lepton flavour, high-energy observables, such as large slepton mass splittings and flavour violating neutralino and slepton decays, are expected to be accompanied by low-energy manife…
We examine how light neutrinos coming from distant active galactic nuclei (AGN) and similar high energy sources may be used as tools to probe non-standard physics. In particular we discuss how studying the energy spectra of each neutrino flavour coming from such distant sources and their distortion relative to each other may serve as pointers to exotic physics such as neutrino decay, Lorentz symmetry violation, pseudo-Dirac effects, CP and CPT violation and quantum decoherence. This allows us to probe hitherto unexplored ranges of parameters for the above cases, for example lifetimes in the ra…
Electric dipole moments and charged-lepton flavour-violating processes are extremely sensitive probes for new physics, complementary to direct searches as well as flavour-changing processes in the quark sector. Beyond the "smoking-gun" feature of a potential significant measurement, however, it is crucial to understand their implications for new physics models quantitatively. The corresponding multi-scale problem of relating the existing high-precision measurements to fundamental parameters can be approached model-independently to a large extent; however, care must be taken to include the unce…
In the absence of a fundamental principle preventing charged lepton flavour violation, one expects that extensions of the Standard Model accommodating neutrino masses and mixings should also allow for charged lepton flavour violating processes such as $\ell_i \to \ell_jγ$, $\ell_i \to \ell_j \ell_k \ell_m $ and $μ- e$ conversion in nuclei, for which the rates depend in general on the mechanism of neutrino mass generation. In addition to low-energy experiments, there are also searches for lepton flavour violation at colliders, where new physics can be directly probed through flavour violating p…
A new experimental technique to study the decays of $B^0_s$ mesons into final states involving unreconstructable particles is proposed. The method uses a characteristic feature of fast flavour oscillations of $B^0_s$ mesons. Analysis of the oscillation-frequency spectrum of partially reconstructed flavour-tagged $B^0_s$ decays provides information about the mass spectrum of unreconstructed decay products and suppresses any background that does not come from the decays of $B^0_s$ mesons.
We study the ratio of neutrino-proton elastic scattering to inverse beta decay event counts, measurable in a scintillation detector like JUNO, as a key observable for identifying the explosion mechanism of a galactic core-collapse supernova. If the supernova is not powered by the core but rather, e.g., by collapse-induced thermonuclear explosion, then a prolonged period of accretion-dominated neutrino luminosity is predicted. Using 1D numerical simulations, we show that the distinct resulting flavour composition of the neutrino burst can be tested in JUNO with high significance, overcoming the…
We present the results from the heavy quarks and quarkonia working group. This report gives benchmark heavy quark and quarkonium cross sections for $pp$ and $pA$ collisions at the LHC against which the $AA$ rates can be compared in the study of the quark-gluon plasma. We also provide an assessment of the theoretical uncertainties in these benchmarks. We then discuss some of the cold matter effects on quarkonia production, including nuclear absorption, scattering by produced hadrons, and energy loss in the medium. Hot matter effects that could reduce the observed quarkonium rates such as color …
Rapid progress has been made during recent years in the understanding of the flavour oscillations that occur as neutrinos traverse through supernova. The previous paradigm has given way and it is now clear that the neutrino signals we shall receive from future Galactic supernovae will allow us both to peer inside these extraordinary cosmic events and to probe some of the fundamental properties of these elusive particles. In this review we aim to distill the progress that has been made focusing upon the effects of the dynamic density profile and the emergence of collective flavour oscillations …
We review and update the current phenomenological constraints on minimal type I seesaw extensions of the Standard Model in which New Physics content can be probed at the electroweak scale. In this class of models, the flavour structure of the neutrino Yukawa couplings is determined by the requirement of reproducing neutrino oscillation data. The strongest constraints on the seesaw parameter space are imposed by the very recent upper limit on μ --> e γ decay rate. Searches of non-standard Higgs boson decays into a light and a heavy neutrino may also provide and independent test of these seesaw …
We analyze the neutrino conversions inside a supernova in the 3$ν$ mixing scheme, and their effects on the neutrino spectra observed at the earth. We find that the observations of the energy spectra of neutrinos from a future galactic supernova may enable us to identify the solar neutrino solution, to determine the sign of $Δm^2_{32}$, and to probe the mixing matrix element |U_{e3}|^2 to values as low as 10^{-4}-10^{-3}.

Reconstructed jets initiated from heavy quarks provide a powerful tool to probe the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and to explore the mass hierarchy of jet quenching. In this article, we review the recent theoretical progresses on heavy-flavour jets in high-energy nuclear collisions at the RHIC and LHC. We focus on the yields and substructures of charm and bottom quark jets with jet quenching effect, such as the nuclear modification factors, transverse momentum imbalance, angular correlation, radial profiles, fragmentation functions, the "dead-cone" effect, etc.
We consider low-energy tests of low-scale leptogenesis based on the type I seesaw scenario with three right-handed singlet neutrinos $ν_{l R}$. In this scenario, successful leptogenesis is possible for quasi-degenerate in mass heavy Majorana neutrinos $N_{1,2,3}$, $M_{1,2,3}\cong M$, $|M_j - M_i|\ll M$, $i\neq j = 1,2,3$, heavy Majorana neutrino masses $M \sim (0.05 - 5\times 10^5)$ GeV, and $N_j$ charged current and neutral current weak interaction couplings as large as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$. We derive the constraints on the corresponding leptogenesis parameter space from the existing data f…
Flavour physics observables are excellent probes of new physics up to very high energy scales. Here we present FlavBit, the dedicated flavour physics module of the global-fitting package GAMBIT. FlavBit includes custom implementations of various likelihood routines for a wide range of flavour observables, including detailed uncertainties and correlations associated with LHCb measurements of rare, leptonic and semileptonic decays of B and D mesons, kaons and pions. It provides a generalised interface to external theory codes such as SuperIso, allowing users to calculate flavour observables in a…
The neutrino mass and dark matter (DM) problems are addressed in a Standard Model extension where the type-II seesaw and scotogenic mechanisms coexist. The model features a flavour $\mathcal{Z}_8$ discrete symmetry which is broken down to a $\mathcal{Z}_2$, stabilising the (scalar or fermion) DM particle. Spontaneous CP violation is implemented through the complex vacuum expectation value of a singlet scalar field, inducing observable CP-violating effects in the lepton sector. The structure of the effective neutrino mass matrix leads to constraints on the low-energy neutrino observables, namel…
In spite of the large lepton flavour violation (LFV) observed in neutrino oscillations, within the Standard Model, we do \textit{not} expect any visible LFV in the charged lepton sector ($μ\to e, γ$, $τ\to μ, γ$, etc.). On the contrary, the presence of new physics close to the electroweak scale can enhance the amplitudes of these processes. We discuss this in general and focus on a particularly interesting case: the marriage of low-energy supersymmetry (SUSY) and seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses (SUSY seesaw). Several ideas presented in this context are reviewed both in the bottom-up and t…
We study the signatures of minimal lepton flavour violation in a simple Type-III see - saw model in which the flavour scale is given by the new fermion triplet mass and it can be naturally light enough to be produced at the LHC. In this model the flavour structure of the lepton number conserving couplings of the triplet fermions to the Standard Model leptons can be reconstructed from the neutrino mass matrix and the smallness of the neutrino mass is associated with a tiny violation of total lepton number. Characteristic signatures of this model include suppressed lepton number violation decays…
We study the impact of a type-I SUSY seesaw concerning lepton flavour violation (LFV) both at low-energies and at the LHC. The study of the di-lepton invariant mass distribution at the LHC allows to reconstruct some of the masses of the different sparticles involved in a decay chain. In particular, the combination with other observables renders feasible the reconstruction of the masses of the intermediate sleptons involved in $ χ_2^0\to \tilde \ell \,\ell \to \ell \,\ell\,χ_1^0$ decays. Slepton mass splittings can be either interpreted as a signal of non-universality in the SUSY soft breaking-…
This Thesis presents my personal contributions to two distinct fields, namely the recent experimental anomalies in B-meson decays, and the longstanding quest for a theoretical explanation of lepton masses and mixings, under a unifying umbrella: Flavour Physics. The modern view of the Standard Model as an effective theory is motivated, and the dual role of flavour, as a probe of New Physics effects on one side, and as a piece of the puzzle itself on the other, is emphasized. By jointly discussing two physics cases of different nature, I attempt to offer a broader perspective on the current stat…
The B^0 -> J/ψK_{S,L} channels are outstanding probes of CP violation. We have a detailed look at the associated Standard-Model uncertainties, which are related to doubly Cabibbo-suppressed penguin contributions, and point out that these usually neglected effects can actually be taken into account unambiguously through the CP asymmetries and the branching ratio of the B^0 -> J/ψpi^0 decay. Using the most recent B-factory measurements, we find a negative shift of the extracted value of beta, which softens the tension in the fits of the unitarity triangle. In addition, this strategy can be used …
