Scalar leptoquarks naturally arise within unified theories, offering a promising avenue for addressing one of the most significant challenges of the Standard Model--the existence of non-zero neutrino masses. In this work, we present a unified theory based on the SU(5) gauge group, where neutrino mass appears at the two-loop level via the propagation of scalar leptoquarks. Due to the unified framework, the charged fermion and neutrino masses and mixings are entangled and determined by a common set of Yukawa couplings. These exotic particles not only shed light on the neutrino mass generation mechanism but also help to achieve the unification of gauge couplings and are expected to lead to substantial lepton flavor violating rates, offering tangible opportunities for experimental verification. Reproducing the observed neutrino mass scale necessitates that a set of leptoquarks reside a few orders of magnitude below the unification scale--a specific feature of the proposed scenario. Moreover, maximizing the unification scale implies TeV scale new physics states, making them accessible at colliders. The diverse roles that leptoquarks play highlight the elegance and predictive ability of the proposed unified model.
It is assumed that neutrino-nucleon scattering at ultra-high energies effectively proceeds through excitations of leptoquarks in neutrino-quark subprocesses. This approach reproduces the behavior of the energy dependence of the ultra-high energy neutrino-nucleon scattering cross sections and allows to estimate masses as well as the decay widths of the involved leptoquarks. For instance, this leads to the leptoquark mass $1353\pm230$ GeV in a way independent on the leptoquark quantum numbers. The discovery potential of the LHC for the leptoquarks is evaluated.
Leptoquarks are predicted in several extensions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics attempting the unification of the quark and lepton sectors. Such particles could be produced in the interaction of high energy neutrinos with matter of the Earth. We investigate the effects of this particles on the neutrino flux to be detected in a kilometer cubic neutrino telescope such as IceCube. We calculate the contribution of leptoquarks to the neutrino-nucleon interaction and, then, to the angular observable $α(E)$ recently proposed in order to evaluate detectable effects in IceCube. Our resul…
We analyze neutrino-induced leptoquark production on atomic nuclei. A leptoquark term in the Lagrangian admits the possibility that neutrinos interact with gluons. The current lower limits on the leptoquark masses are of the order of 1 TeV depending on the leptoquark quantum numbers and couplings. Such heavy states can be produced in ultra-high energy cosmic neutrino scattering processes. The four-momentum transfer squared and the Bjorken variable simultaneously probed in these processes may reach values kinematically inaccessible at present collider experiments. We study the impact of the glu…
If the leptoquarks proposed to account for the intriguing anomalies observed in the $B$-meson decays, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, as well as in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, can be embedded into the scotogenic Dirac neutrino model, all these flavor anomalies, together with the origin of neutrino masses and the nature of dark matter, would be potentially addressed in a unified picture. Among the minimal seesaw, one-loop, and two-loop realizations of the dimension-4 effective operator $\mathcal{L}_{4}$ for the Dirac neutrino masses, we show that plenty of diagr…
Allowing leptoquarks to interact with both right-handed and left-handed neutrinos (i.e., ``non-chiral'' leptoquarks), we show that a non-zero neutrino magnetic moment can arise naturally. Although the mass of the non-chiral vector leptoquark that couples to the first generation fermions is constrained severely by universality of the $π^+$ leptonic decays and is found to be greater than 50 TeV, the masses of the second and third generation non-chiral vector leptoquarks may evade such constraint and may in general be in the range of $1\sim 100$ TeV. With reasonable input mass and coupling values…
Vector leptoquarks provide an elegant solution to a series of anomalies and at the same time generate naturally light neutrino masses through their mixing with the standard model Higgs boson. We present a simple Froggatt-Nielsen model to accommodate the B physics anomalies $R_K$ and $R_D$, neutrino masses, and the $750$ GeV diphoton excess in one cohesive framework adding only two vector leptoquarks and two singlet scalar fields to the standard model field content.
We explore leptoquark production and decay for the $\tilde{R}_{2}$ class of models at the proposed $e^{-} p$ collider LHeC, planned to operate with 150 GeV electron and 7 TeV proton beams. In addition to the coupling of leptoquark with the lepton and jet, the model also has right handed neutrinos, coupled to the leptoquark. We analyse the collider signatures of a number of final states, that can originate from leptoquark decay into the standard model particles, as well as, the final states that originate from further decay of the heavy neutrinos, produced from leptoquark. We find that the fina…
At the LHC, the gluon-initiated processes are considered to be the primary source of di-Higgs production. However, in the presence of a new resonance, the light-quark initiated processes can also contribute significantly. In this paper, we look at the di-Higgs production mediated by a new singlet scalar. The singlet is produced in both quark-antiquark and gluon fusion processes through loops involving a scalar leptoquark and right-handed neutrinos. With benchmark parameters inspired from the recent resonant di-Higgs searches by the ATLAS collaboration, we examine the prospects of such a resona…
We extend the contents of the standard model (SM) by introducing TeV-scale scalar leptoquarks to generate neutrino masses and explain some current observed deviations from the SM predictions, including the anomalous magnetic moments of charged leptons (electron and muon) and $B$-physics anomalies ($R_{K^{(*)}}$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$). The model consists of $\text{SU}(2)_L$ singlet leptoquark $S_1\sim (\bar{3}, 1, 1/3)$, doublet leptoquark $\tilde{R}_2\sim (3, 2, 1/6)$ and triplet leptoquark $S_3\sim (\bar{3}, 3, 1/3)$. We combine the constraints arising from the low-energy lepton flavor violation,…
The prospects for producing leptoquarks (LQs) in ultrahigh-energy (UHE) neutrino nucleon collisions are re-examined in the light of recent interpretations of HERA data in terms of leptoquark production. We update predictions for cross-sections for the production of first- and second-generation leptoquarks in UHE nu-N and nubar-N collisions including (i) recent experimental limits on masses and couplings from the LEP and TEVATRON colliders as well as rare processes, (ii) modern parton distributions, and (iii) radiative corrections to single leptoquark production. If the HERA events are due to a…
We study the phenomenology of a particular leptoquark extension of the Standard Model (SM), namely the doublet-singlet scalar leptoquark extension of the SM (DSL-SM). Besides generating Majorana mass for neutrinos, these leptoquarks contribute to muon and electron $(g-2)$ and various lepton flavour violating processes. Collider signatures of the benchmark points (BPs), consistent with the neutrino oscillation data, anomalous muon/electron magnetic moments, experimental bounds on the charged lepton flavour violation observables, etc., are studied at the LHC/FCC with centre-of-mass energies of 1…
We present a new model of radiative neutrino mass generation wherein TeV scale leptoguark scalars induce tiny neutrino masses as two-loop radiative corrections. The neutrino oscillation parameter \sin^2θ_{13} is predicted to be close to the current experimental limit within the model. Rare lepton flavor violating processes mediated by leptoquarks have an interesting pattern: μ-> e γ$ may be suppressed, while μ-> 3 e and μ-e conversion in nuclei are within reach of the next generation experiments. New CP violating contributions to B_s- \bar{B}_s mixing via leptoquark box diagrams are in a range…
We propose a leptoquark model simultaneously to explain anomalies of muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment and $b\to s μ\barμ$ in light of experimental reports very recently. Here, we satisfy several stringent constraints such as $μ\to eγ$ and meson mixings. In addition, we find these leptoquarks also play an role in generating tiny neutrino masses at one-loop level without introducing any additional symmetries. We have numerical analysis and show how degrees our parameter space is restricted.
The neutrino magnetic dipole moment is studied in a simple extension of the SM augmented with a scalar Leptoquark with quantum numbers $(\bar{\boldsymbol{3}},\boldsymbol{1},1/3)$. In order to reach a sizeable neutrino magnetic moment, we include in the framework the contribution of right-handed neutrinos and analytical result for the one-loop contribution of a scalar LQ is presented. The allowed parameter space is found through recent restrictions on the muon $(g-2)$, the $τ\to μγ$ and the $B_c \to τ^- \bar ν$ decay. It is shown that exist a region of the parameter space where the recent anoma…
The accurate prediction of neutrino beam produced in muon decays and the absence of opposite helicity contamination for a particular neutrino flavour makes a future neutrino factory (NF) based on a muon storage ring (MSR), the ideal place to look for the lepton flavour violating (LFV) effects. In this paper, we address the contribution of mediating LFV leptoquarks (LQ) in $ν(\barν)-{N}$ interactions leading to production of $τ$'s and wrong sign $μ$'s at MSR and investigate the region where LQ interactions are significant in the near-site and short baseline experiments.
The proposed neutrino factory (NF) based on a muon storage ring (MSR) is an ideal place to look for heavy quark production via neutral current (NC) and charged current (CC) interactions. In this article, we address the issue of contribution coming from mediating leptoquarks (LQ) in $ν_μ(\barν_e)-{\rm N}$ interactions leading to the production of $b(\bar b)$ at a MSR and investigate the region where LQ interactions are significant in the near-site experiments.
We show how nonzero Majorana neutrino masses can be radiatively generated by extending the MSSM with leptoquark chiral multiplets without violating R-parity. It is found that, with these particles, the R-parity conservation does not imply lepton number conservation. Neutrino masses generated at a one-loop level are closely related to the down quark mass matrix. The ratio of neutrino mass-squared splittings $Δm^2_{ν_2-ν_1}/Δm^2_{ν_3-ν_2}$ obtained is naturally close to $Δm^2_{s-d}/Δm^2_{b-s}\sim 10^{-3}$ which is in the right region required to explain both the atmospheric neutrino data and the…
We study the production of scalar leptoquarks at IceCube, in particular, a particle transforming as a triplet under the weak interaction. The existence of electroweak-triplet scalars is highly motivated by models of grand unification and also within radiative seesaw models for neutrino mass generation. In our framework, we extend the Standard Model by a single colored electroweak-triplet scalar leptoquark and analyze its implications on the excess of ultra-high energy neutrino events observed by the IceCube collaboration. We consider only couplings between the leptoquark to first generation le…
Leptoquarks have been proposed as a possible explanation of anomalies in $\bar{B}\mapsto D^{*} τ\bar{ν} $ decays, the apparent anomalies in $(g-2)_μ$ experiments and a violation of lepton universality. Motivated by this, we examine other motivations of leptoquarks: radiatively induced neutrino masses in the presence of a discrete symmetry that prevents a tree level see-saw mechanism, gauge coupling unification, and vacuum stability at least up to the unification scale. We present a new model for radiatively generating a neutrino mass which can significantly improve gauge coupling unification a…
In this paper we show that the mixing between leptoquarks (LQ's) from different $SU(2)_l$ multiplets can generate a non-trivial Majorana mass matrix for neutrinos through one loop self energy diagrams. Such mixing can arise from gauge invariant and renormalizable LQ-Higgs interaction terms after EW symmetry breaking. We use the experimental indication on neutrino oscillation to find constraints on specific combinations of LQ couplings to quark-lepton pairs and to the SM higgs boson. These constraints are compared with the ones from $π\to e\bar ν_e$.
We propose a three-loop neutrino mass model with a few leptoquark scalars in $SU(2)_L$-triplet form, through which we can explain the anomaly of $B \to K^{(*)} μ^+ μ^-$, a sizable muon $g-2$ and a bosonic dark matter candidate, and at the same time satisfying all the constraints from lepton flavor violations. We perform global numerical analyses and show the allowed regions, in which we find somewhat restricted parameter space, such as the mass of dark matter candidate and various components of the Yukawa couplings in the model.
The massive neutrino radiative decay $ν_i \rightarrow ν_j γ$ ($i \ne j$) is investigated within the Minimal Quark-Lepton Symmetry of the Pati-Salam type based on the $SU(4)_V \times SU(2)_L \times G_R$ group in an external constant crossed field ($\vec {\cal E} \perp \vec H$, ${\cal E}=H$). The matrix element $ΔM^{(X)}$ and the decay probability $W^{(X)}$ due to the leptoquark $X$ contribution are analysed. The effect of significant enhancement of the neutrino decay by the crossed field takes place. It is shown that the leptoquark contribution to the decay probability can dominate over the $W$…
Leptoquark-Higgs interactions induce mixing between leptoquark states with different chiralities once the electro-weak symmetry is broken. In such LQ models Majorana neutrino masses are generated at 1-loop order. Here we calculate the neutrino mass matrix and explore the constraints on the parameter space enforced by the assumption that LQ-loops explain current neutrino oscillation data. LQs will be produced at the LHC, if their masses are at or below the TeV scale. Since the fermionic decays of LQs are governed by the same Yukawa couplings, which are responsible for the non-trivial neutrino m…
We consider an extension of the Standard Model (SM) augmented by two neutral singlet fermions per generation and a leptoquark. In order to generate the light neutrino masses and mixing, we incorporate inverse seesaw mechanism. The right handed neutrino production in this model is significantly larger than the conventional inverse seesaw scenario. We analyze the different collider signatures of this model and find that the final states associated with three or more leptons, multi jet and at least one b-tagged and (or) $τ$-tagged jet can probe larger RH neutrino mass scale. We have also proposed…
We introduce two scalar leptoquarks, the SU$(2)_L$ isosinglet denoted $ϕ\sim(\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1}, -1/3)$ and the isotriplet $φ\sim(\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{3}, -1/3)$, to explain observed deviations from the standard model in semi-leptonic $B$-meson decays. We explore the regions of parameter space in which this model accommodates the persistent tensions in the decay observables $R_{D^{(*)}}$, $R_{K^{(*)}}$, and angular observables in $b\to s μμ$ transitions. Additionally, we exploit the role of these exotics in existing models for one-loop neutrino mass generation derived from $ΔL=2$ effective …
In the current epoch of neutrino physics, many experiments are aiming for precision measurements of oscillation parameters. Thus, various new physics scenarios which alter the neutrino oscillation probabilities in matter deserve careful investigation. In this context, we study the effect of a vector leptoquark which induces non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) that modify the oscillation probabilities of neutrinos in matter. We show that such interactions provide a relatively large value of NSI parameter $\varepsilon_{e μ}$. Considering this NSI parameter, we successfully explain the recen…
We propose a quark-lepton model via leptoquarks and modular $A_4$ symmetry. Since the neutrino mass is induced at one-loop level mediated by down quarks as well as leptoquarks, we have to explain lepton and quark masses and mixings with a single modulus $τ$. Here, we find predictions for lepton and quark sectors with unified modulus $τ$, and show several constraints originating from leptoquarks.
We reconsider a model introducing a scalar leptoquark $ϕ\sim (\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1}, -1/3)$ to explain recent deviations from the standard model in semileptonic $B$ decays. The leptoquark can accommodate the persistent tension in the decays $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}τ\barν$ as long as its mass is lower than approximately $10 \text{ TeV}$, and we show that a sizeable Yukawa coupling to the right-chiral tau lepton is necessary for an acceptable explanation. Agreement with the measured $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)}τ\barν$ rates is mildly compromised for parameter choices addressing the tensions i…
The ANITA experiment has seen anomalous Earth emergent showers of EeV energies which cannot be explained with Standard Model interactions. In addition, tests of lepton flavor universality in $ R(D^{(\ast)})$ and $R(K^{(\ast)})$ have shown significant deviations from theoretical predictions. It is known that, among single leptoquark solutions, only the chiral vector leptoquark $U_1 \sim (\mathbf{3}, \mathbf{1} , 2/3)$ can simultaneously address the discrepancies. In this paper, we show that the leptoquark motivated by flavor anomalies coupled to a sterile neutrino can also explain the ANITA Ano…
We investigate a model in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level by using scalar leptoquark and diquark multiplets. The diquark can be singly produced at the LHC, and it can decay into a pair of leptoquarks through the lepton number violating interaction. Subsequent decays of the two leptoquarks can provide a clear signature of the lepton number violation, namely two QCD jets and a pair of same-signed charged leptons without missing energy. We show that the signal process is not suppressed while neutrino masses are appropriately suppressed.
In this paper, we argue that an extension of the Standard Model with a single leptoquark and three right-handed neutrinos can explain the excess in the first-generation leptoquark search at the LHC. We also find that when the leptoquark has similarly sized couplings to all three generations, it produces additional signals which will soon be tested in the second- and third-generation leptoquark searches, as well as in decay channels consisting of two mixed flavor leptons and two jets. If the leptoquark only couples to the first generation, on the other hand, two of the right-handed neutrinos ne…
The properties of light leptoquarks predicted in the context of a simple grand unified theory and their observability at the LHC are investigated. The SU(5) symmetry of the theory implies that the leptoquark couplings to matter are related to the neutrino mass matrix. We study the resulting connection between neutrino masses and mixing parameters and the leptoquark decays, and show that different light neutrino hierarchies imply distinctive leptoquark decay signatures. We also discuss low-energy constraints implied by searches for charged lepton flavour violation, studies of meson decays, and …
Very recently, a substantial $7σ$ deviation of the $W$-boson mass from the Standard Model (SM) prediction has been reported by the CDF collaboration. Furthermore, the Muon g-2 Experiment recently confirmed the longstanding tension in $(g-2)_μ$. Besides, the updated result from the LHCb collaboration found evidence for the breaking of lepton universality in beauty-quark decays, which shows a $3.1σ$ discrepancy and is consistent with their previous measurements. Motivated by several of these drawbacks of the SM, in this work, we propose a model consisting of two scalar leptoquarks and a vectorli…
The decay rate of neutrinoless double beta decay could be dominated by short-range diagrams involving heavy scalar particles ("topology-II" diagrams). Examples are diagrams with diquarks, leptoquarks or charged scalars. Here, we compare the discovery potential for lepton number violating signals at the LHC with constraints from dijet and leptoquark searches and the sensitivity of double beta decay experiments, using three example models. We note that already with 20/fb the LHC will test interesting parts of the parameter space of these models, not excluded by current limits on double beta deca…
Leptoquarks arise naturally in models attempting the unification of the quark and lepton sectors of the standard model of particle physics. Such particles could be produced in the interaction of high energy quasi-horizontal cosmic neutrinos with the atmosphere, via their direct coupling to a quark and a neutrino. The hadronic decay products of the leptoquark, and possibly its leptonic decay products would originate an extensive air shower, observable in large cosmic ray experiments. In this letter, the sensitivity of present and planned very high energy cosmic ray experiments to the production…
A new model of radiative neutrino masses generated via two-loop diagrams is proposed involving a charge 2/3 vector-like quark and a doublet of leptoquark scalars. This model predicts one of the neutrinos to be massless and admits both the normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchies with correlated predictions for l_i \rightarrow l_j + γbranching ratios. New contributions to CP violation in B_s-\bar{B}_s mixing arise in the model through leptoquark box diagrams, which can explain the anomalous dimuon events reported by the DO collaboration. These leptoquarks, with masses below 500 GeV, also p…
We propose a leptoquark model with two scalar leptoquarks $S^{}_1 \left( \bar{3},1,\frac{1}{3} \right)$ and $\widetilde{R}^{}_2 \left(3,2,\frac{1}{6} \right)$ to give a combined explanation of neutrino masses, lepton flavor mixing and the anomaly of muon $g-2$, satisfying the constraints from the radiative decays of charged leptons. The neutrino masses are generated via one-loop corrections resulting from a mixing between $S^{}_1$ and $\widetilde{R}^{}_2$. With a set of specific textures for the leptoquark Yukawa coupling matrices, the neutrino mass matrix possesses an approximate $μ$-$τ$ refl…
Tiny neutrino masses can arise naturally via loop diagrams. After a brief review of the radiative mass generation mechanism, I present a new model wherein TeV scale leptoquark scalars induce neutrino masses via two--loop diagrams. This model predicts the neutrino oscillation parameter \sin^2θ_{13} to be close to the current experimental limit. The leptoquarks are accessible to experiments at the LHC since their masses must lie below 1.5 TeV, and their decay branching ratios probe neutrino oscillation parameters. Rare lepton flavor violating processes mediated by leptoquarks have an interesting…
We study the phenomenology of two leptoquarks, the Standard Model $SU(2)$ singlets $S_1$ and $U_1$, with regard to the latest experimental data from the low-energy flavor physics measurements, LHC, and the IceCube neutrino experiment. We consider a scenario when scalar (vector) leptoquark $S_1$ ($U_1$) couples exclusively to the down quark and the neutrinos (charged leptons) of all flavors, where the leptoquark in question couples to the SM lepton doublets. The couplings of $S_1$ ($U_1$) to the up-type quarks and the charged leptons (neutrinos) are in turn uniquely determined via $SU(2)$ symme…
The same leptoquarks that explain the recently observed anomaly in $R_K$ can generate naturally small Majorana neutrino masses at one-loop level through mixing with the standard model Higgs boson. This is particularly relevant in models with at least two leptoquarks contributing to $b \rightarrow s ll$ transitions.
The recent data from ATLAS and CMS hint at a new resonance at around 750 GeV in the diphoton invariant mass distribution. The explanation of the significantly large cross section for this diphoton resonance requires coloured particles in its loop-induced production via gluon fusion and subsequent decay to diphoton. A natural candidate for the coloured particle is the colour-triplet leptoquark, lying in the mass range 375-1000 GeV, which can account for such large cross section. The leptoquarks in this mass range can also be produced resonantly from neutrino and quark interactions at IceCube an…
We examine the consequences of leptoquark explanation of HERA anomaly in the context of R parity conserving supersymmetric gauge unified theory with the gauge unification scale at $\sim 10^{16}$ GeV. We pointed out the difficulty of constructing a grandunified theory. However gauge unification is still possible at $\sim 10^{16}$ GeV when additional multiplets are introduced. We determine the mass spectrum of these additional fields (fermions and scalars) in gauge mediated and supergravity scenarios. Unique signatures and mass bounds are discussed.
It was previously noted that SU(5) unification can be achieved via the simple addition of light scalar leptoquarks from two split $\bf10$ multiplets. We explore the parameter space of this model in detail and find that unification requires at least one leptoquark to have mass below $\approx16\,$TeV. We point out that introducing splitting of the $\bf24$ allows the unification scale to be raised beyond $10^{16}$ GeV, while a U(1)$_{PQ}$ symmetry can be imposed to forbid dangerous proton decay mediated by the light leptoquarks. The latest bounds from LHC searches are combined and we find that a …
We propose a radiative seesaw model at the three-loop level, in which quarks, leptons, leptoquark bosons, and a Majorana fermion of dark matter candidate are involved in the neutrino loop. Analyzing neutrino oscillation data including all possible constraints such as flavor changing neutral currents, lepton flavor violations, upper/lower bound on the mass of leptoquark from the collider physics, and the measured relic density of the dark matter, we show the allowed region to satisfy all the data/constraints.
We demonstrate viability of the one-loop neutrino mass mechanism within the framework of grand unification when the loop particles comprise scalar leptoquarks (LQs) and quarks of the matching electric charge. This mechanism can be implemented in both supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric models and requires the presence of at least one LQ pair. The appropriate pairs for the neutrino mass generation via the up-type and down-type quark loops are $S_3$-$R_2$ and $S_{1,\,3}$-$\tilde{R}_2$, respectively. We consider two phenomenologically distinct regimes for the LQ masses in our analysis. First re…

One of the most important discoveries in particle physics is the observation of nonzero neutrino masses, which dictates that the Standard Model (SM) is incomplete. Moreover, several pieces of evidence of lepton flavor universality violation (LFUV), gathered in the last few years, hint toward physics beyond the SM. TeV-scale scalar leptoquarks are the leading candidates for explaining these flavor anomalies in semileptonic charged and neutral current B-decays, the muon, and the electron magnetic dipole moments that can also participate in neutrino mass generation. In this work, we hypothesize t…
We consider a neutrino mass generating model which employs a scalar leptoquark, $Δ$, and a scalar diquark, $S$. The new scalars $Δ$ and $S$ carry the standard model $SU(3)_c\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ quantum numbers $(3,1,-1/3)$ and $(6,1,-2/3)$, respectively. The neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level, as in the Zee-Babu model\cite{Zee-Babu}, and $Δ/S$ plays the role of the doubly/singly charged scalar in the Zee-Babu model. With a moderate working assumption that the magnitudes of the six Yukawa couplings between $S$ and the down-type quarks are of the same order, strong conne…
