We use the convolution method for arithmetic functions of several variables to deduce an asymptotic formula for the number of $k$-tuples of positive integers with components which are pairwise non-coprime and $\le x$. More generally, we obtain asymptotic formulas on the number of $k$-tuples $(n_1,\ldots,n_k)\in {\Bbb N}^k$ such that at least $r$ pairs $(n_i,n_j)$, respectively exactly $r$ pairs are coprime. Our results answer the questions raised by Moree (2005, 2014), and generalize and refine related results obtained by Heyman (2014) and Hu (2014).
How many ways can we write $n$ as a sum of $3$ positive integers, no pair of which share a common factor? We express this quantity in terms of the number of solutions to a certain class of linear Diophantine equations. This allows us to show that there are $$ \prod_{p \mid n} \left( 1- \frac{1}{p^2} \right) \prod_{q \nmid n} \left( 1- \frac{3}{q^2} \right) \frac{n^2}{2} + O(n^{3/2+o(1)}) $$ such compositions, where the products are over primes that respectively do and don't divide $n$. This strengthens the previous result of Bubbolini, Luca, and Spiga (arXiv:1202.1670)
On the density of coprime tuples of the form $(n,\lfloor f_1(n)\rfloor,\ldots,\lfloor f_k(n)\rfloor)$, where $f_1,\ldots,f_k$ are functions from a Hardy field
Fix coprime natural numbers $a,q$. Assuming the Prime $k$-tuple Conjecture, we show that there exist arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions of Carmichael numbers, each of which lies in the reduced residue class $a$ mod $q$ and is a product of three distinct prime numbers.
This paper is concerned with the existence of consecutive pairs and consecutive triples of multiplicatively dependent integers. A theorem by LeVeque on Pillai's equation implies that the only consecutive pairs of multiplicatively dependent integers larger than 1 are $(2,8)$ and $(3,9)$. For triples, we prove the following theorem: If $a\notin \{2,8\}$ is a fixed integer larger than 1, then there are only finitely many triples $(a,b,c)$ of pairwise distinct integers larger than 1 such that $(a,b,c)$, $(a+1,b+1,c+1)$ and $(a+2,b+2,c+2)$ are each multiplicatively dependent. Moreover, these triple…
If a set S of pairwise coprime moduli q, less than x^(9/40), is considered, one obtains the expected behavior for primes up to x in arithmetic progressions mod q, except for a subset of S whose cardinality is bounded by a power of log x.
For an odd integer $d > 1$ and a finite Galois extension $K/\mathbb{Q}$ of degree $d$, G. Lü and Z. Yang \cite{lu3} obtained an asymptotic formula for the mean values of the divisor function for $K$ over square integers. In this article, we obtain the same for finitely many number fields of odd degree and pairwise coprime discriminants, together with the moment of the error term arising here, following the method adapted by S. Shi in \cite{shi}. We also define the sum of divisor function over number fields and find the asymptotic behaviour of the summatory function of two number fields taken t…
We study integral points on the quadratic twists $\mathcal{E}_D:y^2=x^3-D^2x$ of the congruent number curve. We give upper bounds on the number of integral points in each coset of $2\mathcal{E}_D(\mathbb{Q})$ in $\mathcal{E}_D(\mathbb{Q})$ and show that their total is $\ll (3.8)^{\mathrm{rank} \mathcal{E}_D(\mathbb{Q})}$. We further show that the average number of non-torsion integral points in this family is bounded above by $2$. As an application we also deduce from our upper bounds that the system of simultaneous Pell equations $aX^2-bY^2=d$, $bY^2-cZ^2=d$ for pairwise coprime positive inte…
