We provide a general analysis of the asymptotic behaviour of perturbative contributions to observables in arbitrary power-law FRW cosmologies, indistinctly the Bunch-Davies wavefunction and cosmological correlators. We consider a large class of scalar toy models, including conformally-coupled and massless scalars in arbitrary dimensions, that admits a first principle definition in terms of (generalised/weighted) cosmological polytopes. The perturbative contributions to an observable can be expressed as an integral of the canonical function associated to such polytopes and to weighted graphs. We show how the asymptotic behaviour of these integrals is governed by a special class of nestohedra living in the graph-weight space, both at tree and loop level. As the singularities of a cosmological process described by a graph can be associated to its subgraphs, we provide a realisation of the nestohedra as a sequential truncation of a top-dimensional simplex based on the underlying graph. This allows us to determine all the possible directions -- both in the infrared and in the ultraviolet --, where the integral can diverge as well as their divergence degree. Both of them are associated to the facets of the nestohedra, which are identified by overlapping tubings of the graph: the specific tubing determines the divergent directions while the number of overlapping tubings its degree of divergence. This combinatorial formulation makes straightforward the application of sector decomposition for extracting both leading and subleading divergences from the integral, as the sectors in which the integration domain can be tiled are identified by the collection of compatible facets of the nestohedra, with the latter that can be determined via the graph tubings. Finally, the leading divergence can be interpreted as a restriction of the canonical function of the relevant polytope onto a special hyperplane.
The problem of classification of the Einstein--Friedman cosmological Hamiltonians $H$ with a single scalar inflaton field $φ$ that possess an additional integral of motion polynomial in momenta on the shell of the Friedman constraint $H=0$ is considered. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of first, second, and third degree integrals are derived. These conditions have the form of ODEs for the cosmological potential $V(φ)$. In the case of linear and quadratic integrals we find general solutions of the ODEs and construct the corresponding integrals explicitly. A new wide class …
We consider a generic Metric-Affine Cosmological setup and classify some particularly interesting specific cases of Perfect Hyperfluids. In particular, we present the form of conservation laws for the cases of pure spin, pure dilation and pure shear fluids. We also develop the concept of an incompressible hyperfluid and pay special attention to the case of a hypermomentum preserving hyperfluid. We also give a specific example on the emergence of the spin, dilation and shear currents through matter-connection couplings. In addition, starting from the generalized acceleration equation for the sc…
The leading asymptotic behaviour of the Humbert functions $Φ_2$, $Φ_3$, $Ξ_2$ of two variables is found, when the absolute values of the two independent variables become simultaneosly large. New integral representations of these functions are given. These are re-expressed as inverse Laplace transformations and the asymptotics is then found from a Tauberian theorem. Some integrals of the Humbert functions are also analysed.
We reconstruct $F(\mathcal{G})$ gravity theory with an exponential scale factor to realize the bouncing behavior in the early universe and examine the asymptotic behaviour of late-time solutions in this model. We propose an approach to the construction of asymptotic expansions of solutions of the Friedmann equations on the basis of Puiseux series.
We show that the inflaton coupling to all other fields is exponentially suppressed during inflation in the cosmological $α$-attractor models. In the context of supergravity, this feature is a consequence of the underlying hyperbolic geometry of the moduli space which has a flat direction corresponding to the inflaton field. A combination of these factors protects the asymptotic flatness of the inflaton potential.
We present a new method for calculating loops in cosmological perturbation theory. This method is based on approximating a $Λ$CDM-like cosmology as a finite sum of complex power-law universes. The decomposition is naturally achieved using an FFTLog algorithm. For power-law cosmologies, all loop integrals are formally equivalent to loop integrals of massless quantum field theory. These integrals have analytic solutions in terms of generalized hypergeometric functions. We provide explicit formulae for the one-loop and the two-loop power spectrum and the one-loop bispectrum. A chief advantage of …
Viewing the cosmological constant $Λ<0$ as an independent variable, we consider the thermodynamics of the Schwarzschild black hole in an anti-de Sitter (AdS) background. For this system, there is one approach which regards the enthalpy as the master thermodynamic variable and makes sense if one considers the vacuum pressure due to the cosmological constant acting in the volume inside the horizon and the outer size of the system is not restricted. From this approach a first law of thermodynamics emerges naturally. There is yet another approach based on the Euclidean action principle and its pat…
We establish the Hamiltonian analysis and the canonical path integral for a local formulation of vacuum energy sequestering. In particular, by considering the state of the universe as a superposition of vacuum states corresponding to different values of the cosmological and gravitational constants, the path integral is extended to include integrations over the cosmological and gravitational constants. The result is an extension of the Ng-van Dam form of the path integral of unimodular gravity. It is argued to imply a relation between the fraction of the most likely values of the gravitational …
Quantum gravitational effects in black hole spacetimes with a cosmological constant $Λ$ are considered. The effective quantum spacetimes for the black holes are constructed by taking into account the renormalization group improvement of classical solutions obtained in the framework of Unimodular Gravity (a theory which is identical to General Relativity at a classical level). This allows us to avoid the usual divergences associated with the presence of a running $Λ$. The horizons and causal structure of the improved black holes are discussed taking into account the current observational bounds…
The time-evolution dynamics of two nonlinear cosmological real gas models has been reexamined in detail with methods from the theory of Hamiltonian dynamical systems. These examples are FRWL cosmologies, one based on a gas, satisfying the van der Waals equation and another one based on the virial expansion gas equation. The cosmological variables used are the expansion rate, given by the Hubble parameter, and the energy density. The analysis is aided by the existence of global first integral as well as several special (second) integrals in each case. In addition, the global first integral can …
Asymptotic symmetries of electric and magnetic Carrollian gravitational theories with a negative cosmological constant $Λ$ are analyzed in 3+1 space-time dimensions. In the magnetic theory, the asymptotic symmetry algebra is given by the conformal Carroll algebra in three dimensions, which is infinite-dimensional and isomorphic to the BMS$_{4}$ algebra. These results are in full agreement with holographic expectations, providing a new framework for the study of "Carrollian holography." On the contrary, in the case of the electric theory, the presence of a negative $Λ$ turns out to be incompati…
