Rao and Mitra in 1972 introduced two different types of constraints to extend the concept of Bott-Duffin inverse and defined a new constrained inverse. Mary in 2011 defined the inverse along an element that generalizes the Moore-Penrose and Drazin inverses in a semigroup. Drazin in 2012 introduced the $(b,c)$-inverse generalizing the Mary inverse. In 2017, Rakić noted that the Rao-Mitra inverse is a direct precursor of the $(b,c)$-inverse. In this paper, we introduce the notion of $EF$-inverse as a unified approach to the aforementioned generalized inverses. Moreover, we show that the recently introduced generalized bilateral inverses that in turn contain the OMP, MPO, and MPOMP inverses can also be considered as special cases of the $EF$-inverse.
The fundamental theorem of geometry of rectangular matrices describes the general form of bijective maps on the space of all $m\times n$ matrices over a division ring $\mathbb{D}$ which preserve adjacency in both directions. This result proved by Hua in the nineteen forties has been recently improved in several directions. One can study such maps without the bijectivity assumption or one can try to get the same conclusion under the weaker assumption that adjacency is preserved in one direction only. And the last possibility is to study maps acting between matrix spaces of different sizes. The …
In this paper, we compute the natural density of the set of k x n integer matrices that can be extended to an invertible n x n matrix over the integers. As a corollary, we find the density of rectangular matrices with Hermite normal form [O Id]. Connections with Cesaro's Theorem on the density of coprime integers and Quillen-Suslin's Theorem are also presented.
The purpose of the present work is to introduce the concept of relative EP matrix of a rectangular matrix relative to a partial isometry (or, in short, $T$-EP matrix) hitherto unknown. We extend various basic results on EP matrices and we study the relationship between $T$-hermitian, $T$-normal and $T$-EP matrices. The main theorems of this paper consist in providing canonical forms of relative EP matrices when matrices involved are rectangular as well as square. We then use them to characterize the relative EP matrices and show their properties. In fact, an interesting fact that has emerged i…
In this note, we compute the probability that a $k\times n$ matrix can be extended to an $n\times n$ invertible matrix over $\F_q[x]$, which turns out to be $(1-q^{k-n})(1-q^{k-1-n})...(1-q^{1-n})$. Connections with Dirichlet's density theorem on the co-prime integers and its various generalizations are also presented.
Let $M_{m,n}$ be the space of $m\times n$ real or complex rectangular matrices. Two matrices $A, B \in M_{m,n}$ are disjoint if $A^*B = 0_n$ and $AB^* = 0_m$. In this paper, a characterization is given for linear maps $Φ: M_{m,n} \rightarrow M_{r,s}$ sending disjoint matrix pairs to disjoint matrix pairs, i.e., $A, B \in M_{m,n}$ are disjoint ensures that $Φ(A), Φ(B) \in M_{r,s}$ are disjoint. More precisely, it is shown that $Φ$ preserves disjointness if and only if $Φ$ is of the form $$Φ(A) = U\begin{pmatrix} A \otimes Q_1 & 0 & 0 \cr 0 & A^t \otimes Q_2 & 0 \cr 0 & 0 & 0 \cr\end{pmatrix}V$$…
In this article one-sided (b, c)-inverses of arbitrary matrices as well as one-sided inverses along a (not necessarily square) matrix, will be studied. In adddition, the (b, c)-inverse and the inverse along an element will be also researched in the context of rectangular matrices.
We use elementary triangular matrices to obtain some factorization, multiplication, and inversion properties of triangular matrices. We also obtain explicit expressions for the inverses of strict $k$-Hessenberg matrices and banded matrices. Our results can be extended to the cases of block triangular and block Hessenberg matrices.
A new generalized inverse for a square matrix $H\in\mathbb{C}^{n\times n}$, called CCE-inverse, is established by the core-EP decomposition and Moore-Penrose inverse $H^†$. We propose some characterizations of the CCE-inverse. Furthermore, two canonical forms of the CCE-inverse are presented. At last, we introduce the definitions of CCE-matrices and $k$-CCE matrices, and prove that CCE-matrices are the same as $i$-EP matrices studied by Wang and Liu in [The weak group matrix, Aequationes Mathematicae, 93(6): 1261-1273, 2019].
In this paper, new block representations of Moore-Penrose inverses for arbitrary complex $2\times2$ block matrices are given. The approach is based on block representations of orthogonal projection matrices.
We present a new formula for the Drazin inverse of the sum of two complex matrices under weaker conditions with perturbations. By using this additive results, we establish new representations for the Drazin inverse of 2 \times 2 block complex matrix under certain new conditions involving perturbations.
In this paper, we introduce two new generalized inverses of matrices, namely, the $\bra{i}{m}$-core inverse and the $\pare{j}{m}$-core inverse. The $\bra{i}{m}$-core inverse of a complex matrix extends the notions of the core inverse defined by Baksalary and Trenkler \cite{BT} and the core-EP inverse defined by Manjunatha Prasad and Mohana \cite{MM}. The $\pare{j}{m}$-core inverse of a complex matrix extends the notions of the core inverse and the ${\rm DMP}$-inverse defined by Malik and Thome \cite{MT}. Moreover, the formulae and properties of these two new concepts are investigated by using …
We give some statements that are equivalent to the existence of group inverses of Peirce corner matrices of a $2 \times 2$ block matrix and its generalized Schur complements. As applications, several new results for the Drazin inverses of the generalized Schur complements and the $2 \times 2$ block matrix are obtained and some of them generalize several results in the literature.
Slim semimodular lattices (for short, SPS lattices) and slim rectangular lattices (for short, SR lattices) were introduced by G. Grätzer and E. Knapp in 2007 and 2009. These lattices are necessarily finite and planar, and they have been studied in more then four dozen papers since 2007. They are best understood with the help of their $\mathcal C_1$-diagrams, introduced by the author in 2017. For a diagram $F$ of a finite lattice $L$ and a congruence $α$ of $L$, we define the ``quotient diagram'' $F/α$ by taking the maximal elements of the $α$-blocks and preserving their geometric positions. Wh…
Let $\mathcal M_{mn}=\mathcal M_{mn}(\mathbb F)$ denote the set of all $m\times n$ matrices over a field $\mathbb F$, and fix some $n\times m$ matrix $A\in\mathcal M_{nm}$. An associative operation $\star$ may be defined on $\mathcal M_{mn}$ by $X\star Y=XAY$ for all $X,Y\in\mathcal M_{mn}$, and the resulting \emph{sandwich semigroup} is denoted $\mathcal M_{mn}^A=\mathcal M_{mn}^A(\mathbb F)$. These semigroups are closely related to Munn rings, which are fundamental tools in the representation theory of finite semigroups. In this article, we study $\mathcal M_{mn}^A$ as well as its subsemigro…
Consider rectangular matrices over a local ring R. In the previous work we have obtained criteria for block-diagonalization of such matrices, i.e. U A V=A_1\oplus A_2, where U,V are invertible matrices over R. In this short note we extend the criteria to the decomposability of quiver representations over R.
In this paper will be considered standard forms of generalized inverses for matrices in the shape of block representations {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5^k}-inverse. Especially will be considered Moore-Penrose inverse and the group inverse. Results from Rhode's technique are used and methods for calculating some inverse are shown on examples.
The results on the inversion of convolution operators and Toeplitz matrices in the 1-D (one dimensional) case are classical and have numerous applications. We consider a 2-D case of Toeplitz-block Toeplitz matrices, describe a minimal information, which is necessary to recover the inverse matrices, and give a complete characterisation of the inverse matrices.
