Given a closed, orientable Lagrangian submanifold $L$ in a symplectic manifold $(X, ω)$, we show that if $L$ is relatively exact then any Hamiltonian diffeomorphism preserving $L$ setwise must preserve its orientation. In contrast to previous results in this direction, there are no spin hypotheses on $L$. Curiously, the proof uses only mod-2 coefficients in its singular and Floer cohomology rings.
We show that all Lagrangian submanifolds of the cotangent bundle of a Riemann surface which are homotopic to the zero section must be smoothly isotopic to the zero section.
We study two related invariants of Lagrangian submanifolds in symplectic manifolds. For a Lagrangian torus these invariants are functions on the first cohomology of the torus. The first invariant is of topological nature and is related to the study of Lagrangian isotopies with a given Lagrangian flux. More specifically, it measures the length of straight paths in the first cohomology that can be realized as the Lagrangian flux of a Lagrangian isotopy. The second invariant is of analytical nature and comes from symplectic function theory. It is defined for Lagrangian submanifolds admitting fibr…
Viterbo has conjectured that any Lagrangian in the unit co-disc bundle of a torus which is Hamiltonian isotopic to the zero-section satisfies a uniform bound on its spectral norm; a recent result by Shelukhin showed that this is indeed the case. The modest goal of this note is to explore two natural generalisations of the above geometric setting in which the bound of the spectral norm fails: first, passing to Legendrian isotopies in the contactisation of the unit co-disc bundle (Hamiltonian isotopies lift to Legendrian isotopies) and, second, considering Hamiltonian isotopies but after modifyi…
We exhibit monotone Lagrangian tori inside the standard symplectic four-dimensional unit ball that become Hamiltonian isotopic to the Clifford torus, i.e.~the standard product torus, only when considered inside a strictly larger ball (they are not even symplectomorphic to a standard torus inside the unit ball). These tori are then used to construct new examples of symplectic embeddings of toric domains into the unit ball which are symplectically knotted in the sense of J.~Gutt and M.~Usher. We also give a characterisation of the Clifford torus inside the ball as well as the projective plane in…
Let $P$ be a Delzant polytope in $\mathbb{R}^k$ with $n+k$ facets. We associate a closed Lagrangian submanifold $L$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$ to each Delzant polytope. We prove that $L$ is monotone if and only if and only if the polytope $P$ is Fano. We pose the "Lagrangian version of Delzant Theorem". Then for even $p$ and $n$ we construct $\frac{p}{2}$ monotone Lagrangian embeddings of $S^{p-1} \times S^{n-p-1} \times T^2$ into $\mathbb{C}^n$, no two of which are related by Hamiltonian isotopies. Some of these embeddings are smoothly isotopic and have equal minimal Maslov numbers, but they are not H…
We construct monotone Lagrangian tori in the standard symplectic vector space, in the complex projective space and in products of spheres. We explain how to classify these Lagrangian tori up to symplectomorphism and Hamiltonian isotopy, and how to show that they are not displaceable by Hamiltonian isotopies.
Positive loops of Legendrian embeddings are examined from the point of view of Floer homology of Lagrangian cobordisms. This leads to new obstructions to the existence of a positive loop containing a given Legendrian, expressed in terms of the Legendrian contact homology of the Legendrian submanifold. As applications, old and new examples of orderable contact manifolds are obtained and discussed. We also show that contact manifolds admitting a filling of a Liouville domain with non-zero symplectic homology is strongly orderable in the sense of Liu.
We consider open symplectic manifolds which admit dilations (in the sense previously introduced by Solomon and the author). We obtain restrictions on collections of Lagrangian submanifolds which are pairwise disjoint (or pairwise disjoinable by Hamiltonian isotopies) inside such manifolds. This includes the Milnor fibres of isolated hypersurface singularities which have been stabilized (by adding quadratic terms) sufficiently often.
This paper is devoted to deformations of Lagrangian submanifolds contained in the singular locus of a log-symplectic manifold. We prove a normal form result for the log-symplectic structure around such a Lagrangian, which we use to extract algebraic and geometric information about the Lagrangian deformations. We show that the deformation problem is governed by a DGLA, we discuss whether the Lagrangian admits deformations not contained in the singular locus, and we give precise criteria for unobstructedness of first order deformations. We also address equivalences of deformations, showing that …
Let I be an open interval, M be a real manifold, T*M its cotangent bundle and Φ={ϕ_t}, t in I, a homogeneous Hamiltonian isotopy of T*M defined outside the zero-section. Let Λbe the conic Lagrangian submanifold associated with Φ(Λis a subset of T*M x T*M x T*I). We prove the existence and unicity of a sheaf K on MxMxI whose microsupport is contained in the union of Λand the zero-section and whose restriction to t=0 is the constant sheaf on the diagonal of MxM. We give applications of this result to problems of non displaceability in contact and symplectic topology. In particular we prove that …
All principal orbits of the standard Hamiltonian $T^n$-action on the complex projective space ${\mathbb C}P^n$ are Lagrangian tori.In this article, we prove that most of them are not volume minimizing under Hamiltonian isotopies of ${\mathbb C}P^n$ if the complex dimension $n$ is greater than two, although they are Hamiltonian minimal and Hamiltonian stable.
In 1993, Y.-G. Oh proposed a problem whether standard Lagrangian tori in C^n are volume minimizing under Hamiltonian isotopies of C^n. In this article, we prove that most of them do not have such property if the dimension n is greater than two. We also discuss the existence of Hamiltonian non-volume minimizing Lagrangian torus orbits of compact toric Kahler manifolds.
We show how to orient moduli spaces of holomorphic disks with boundary on an exact Lagrangian immersion of a spin manifold into complex n-space in a coherent manner. This allows us to lift the coefficients of the contact homology of Legendrian spin submanifolds of standard contact (2n+1)-space from Z_2 to Z. We demonstrate how the Z-lift provides a more refined invariant of Legendrian isotopy. We also apply contact homology to produce lower bounds on double points of certain exact Lagrangian immersions into C^n and again including orientations strengthens the results. More precisely, we prove …
We construct orientations on moduli spaces of pseudoholomorphic quilts with seam conditions in Lagrangian correspondences equipped with relative spin structures and determine the effect of various gluing operations on the orientations. We also investigate the behavior of the orientations under composition of Lagrangian correspondences.
The purpose of this paper is to extend the construction of the PSS-type isomorphism between the Floer homology and the quantum homology of a monotone Lagrangian submanifold $L$ of a symplectic manifold $M$, provided that the minimal Maslov number of $L$ is at least two, to arbitrary coefficients. We provide a proof, again over arbitrary coefficients, that this isomorphism respects the natural algebraic structures on both sides, such as the quantum product and the quantum module action. This isomorphism serves as the technical foundation for the construction of Lagrangian spectral invariants in…
Let $L \subset \mathbb R \times J^1(M)$ be a spin, exact Lagrangian cobordism in the symplectization of the 1-jet space of a smooth manifold $M$. Assume that $L$ has cylindrical Legendrian ends $Λ_\pm \subset J^1(M)$. It is well known that the Legendrian contact homology of $Λ_\pm$ can be defined with integer coefficients, via a signed count of pseudo-holomorphic disks in the cotangent bundle of $M$. It is also known that this count can be lifted to a mod 2 count of pseudo-holomorphic disks in the symplectization $\mathbb R \times J^1(M)$, and that $L$ induces a morphism between the $\mathbb Z…
We prove a version of the Arnol'd conjecture for Lagrangian submanifolds of conformal symplectic manifolds: a Lagrangian $L$ which has non-zero Morse-Novikov homology for the restriction of the Lee form $β$ cannot be disjoined from itself by a $C^0$-small Hamiltonian isotopy. Furthermore for generic such isotopies the number of intersection points equals at least the sum of the free Betti numbers of the Morse-Novikov homology of $β$. We also give a short exposition of conformal symplectic geometry, aimed at readers who are familiar with (standard) symplectic or contact geometry.
The first author introduced a relative symplectic capacity $C$ for a symplectic manifold $(N,ω_N)$ and its subset $X$ which measures the existence of non-contractible periodic trajectories of Hamiltonian isotopies on the product of $N$ with the annulus $A_R=(R,R)\times\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z}$. In the present paper, we give an exact computation of the capacity $C$ of the $2n$-torus $\mathbb{T}^{2n}$ relative to a Lagrangian submanifold $\mathbb{T}^n$ which implies the existence of non-contractible Hamiltonian periodic trajectories on $A_R\times\mathbb{T}^{2n}$. Moreover, we give a lower bound on …
The main purpose of the present paper is a study of orientations of the moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic discs with boundary lying on a \emph{real} Lagrangian submanifold, i.e., the fixed point set of an anti-symplectic involutions $τ$ on a symplectic manifold. We introduce the notion of $τ$-relatively spin structure for an anti-symplectic involution $τ$, and study how the orientations on the moduli space behave under the involution $τ$. We also apply this to the study of Lagrangian Floer theory of real Lagrangian submanifolds. In particular, we study unobstructedness of the $τ$-fixed point…
Let $(M,ω_M)$ be a monotone or negatively monotone symplectic manifold, or a Weinstein manifold. One can construct an "action" of $H^1(M,\mathbb{G}_m)$ on the Fukaya category (wrapped Fukaya category in the exact case) that reflects the action of $Symp^0(M,ω_M)$ on the set of Lagrangian branes. A priori this action is only analytic. The purpose of this work is to show the algebraicity of this action under some assumptions. We use this to prove a tameness result for the sheaf of Lagrangian Floer homology groups obtained by moving one of the Lagrangians via global symplectic isotopies. We also s…
Let $L\subset X$ be a not necessarily orientable relatively $Pin$ Lagrangian submanifold in a symplectic manifold $X$. We construct a family of cyclic unital curved $A_\infty$ structures on differential forms on $L$ with values in the local system of graded non-commutative rings given by the tensor algebra of the orientation local system of $L$. The family of $A_\infty$ structures is parameterized by the cohomology of $X$ relative to $L$ and satisfies properties analogous to the axioms of Gromov-Witten theory. On account of the non-orientability of $L,$ the evaluation maps of moduli spaces of …
We develop a unifed theory to study geometry of manifolds with different holonomy groups. They are classified by (1) real, complex, quaternion or octonion number they are defined over and (2) being special or not. Specialty is an orientation with respect to the corresponding normed algebra A. For example, special Riemannian A-manifolds are oriented Riemannian, Calabi-Yau, Hyperkahler and G_2-manifolds respectively. For vector bundles over such manifolds, we introduce (special) A-connections. They include holomorphic, Hermitian Yang-Mills, Anti-Self-Dual and Donaldson-Thomas connections. Simila…
In this article, we construct a $2$-category of Lagrangians in a fixed shifted symplectic derived stack S. The objects and morphisms are all given by Lagrangians living on various fiber products. A special case of this gives a $2$-category of $n$-shifted symplectic derived stacks $Symp^n$. This is a $2$-category version of Weinstein's symplectic category in the setting of derived symplectic geometry. We introduce another $2$-category $Symp^{or}$ of $0$-shifted symplectic derived stacks where the objects and morphisms in $Symp^0$ are enhanced with orientation data. Using this, we define a parti…
Many interesting spaces --- including all positroid strata and wild character varieties --- are moduli of constructible sheaves on a surface with microsupport in a Legendrian link. We show that the existence of cluster structures on these spaces may be deduced in a uniform, systematic fashion by constructing and taking the sheaf quantizations of a set of exact Lagrangian fillings in correspondence with isotopy representatives whose front projections have crossings with alternating orientations. It follows in turn that results in cluster algebra may be used to construct and distinguish exact La…
