New vector bosons that are coupled to conserved currents in the Standard Model exhibit enhanced rates below the electroweak scale from anomalous triangle amplitudes, leading to (energy/vector mass)$^2$ enhancements to rare Z decays and flavor-changing meson decays into the longitudinally polarized vector boson. In the case of a vector boson gauging $U(1)_{B-L}$, the mass gap between the top quark and the remaining SM fermions leads to (energy/vector mass)$^2$ enhancements for processes with momentum transfer below the top mass. In addition, we examine the case of an intergenerational $U(1)_{B_3 - L_2}$ that has been proposed to resolve the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly with an MeV scale DM candidate, and we find that these enhanced processes constrain the entire parameter space.
Supersymmetry is still a viable explanation for the muon $g-2$ anomaly, if the sleptons and electroweak gauginos are $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV. However, for supersymmetry breaking masses this light, the SUSY flavor and CP-problem are exacerbated. To address this issue, we consider a flavor-safe gauge mediated explanation of the muon $g-2$ with additional Higgs soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters. The setup provides a generic parameter space within minimal gauge mediation. Furthermore, we show that the problematic CP violating phase can be dynamically suppressed. We find that gauge mediati…
New light vectors with dimension-4 couplings to Standard Model states have (energy / vector mass)^2 enhanced production rates unless the current they couple to is conserved. These processes allow us to derive new constraints on the couplings of such vectors, that are significantly stronger than the previous literature for a wide variety of models. Examples include vectors with axial couplings to quarks and vectors coupled to currents (such as baryon number) that are only broken by the chiral anomaly. Our new limits arise from a range of processes, including rare Z decays and flavor changing me…

Anomaly detection through employing machine learning techniques has emerged as a novel powerful tool in the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. Historically similar to the development of jet observables, theoretical consistency has not always assumed a central role in the fast development of algorithms and neural network architectures. In this work, we construct an infrared and collinear safe autoencoder based on graph neural networks by employing energy-weighted message passing. We demonstrate that whilst this approach has theoretically favourable properties, it also exhibits fo…
We show that there is a class of finite groups, the so-called perfect groups, which cannot exhibit anomalies. This implies that all non-Abelian finite simple groups are anomaly-free. On the other hand, non-perfect groups generically suffer from anomalies. We present two different ways that allow one to understand these statements.
We discuss local \R-symmetry as a potentially powerful new model building tool. We first review and clarify that a $U(1)$ \R-symmetry can only be gauged in local and not in global supersymmetry. We determine the anomaly-cancellation conditions for the gauged \R-symmetry. For the standard superpotential these equations have {\it no} solution, independently of how many Standard Model singlets are added to the model. There is also no solution when we increase the number of families and the number of pairs of Higgs doublets. When the Green-Schwarz mechanism is employed to cancel the anomalies, sol…
In the presence of anomaly induced sphaleron process, only a B-L asymmetry can be partially converted to the baryon asymmetry while any B+L asymmetry would be completely erased. Thus in any successful baryogenesis theories, B-L is usually violated above the electroweak scale to explain the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe. However, if any lepton asymmetry is not affected by the sphaleron processes, a B-L conserved theory can still realize the baryogenesis. We present here an SU(5) GUT realization of this scenario, which naturally accommodates small masses of Dirac neutrinos…
The relativistic complex scalar field at finite temperature and in presence of a net conserved charge is studied in reference to recent developments on the multiplicative anomaly. This quantity, overlooked until now, is computed and it is shown how it could play a role for this system. Other possible applications are also mentioned.
We consider a simple setup with light squarks which is free from the gravitino and SUSY flavor problems. In our setup, a SUSY breaking sector is sequestered from the matter and gauge sectors, and it only couples to the Higgs sector directly with $\mathcal{O}(100)\,$TeV gravitino. Resulting mass spectra of sfermions are split: the first and second generation sfermions are light as $\mathcal{O}(1)\,$TeV while the third generation sfermions are heavy as $\mathcal{O}(10)\,$TeV. The light squarks of $\mathcal{O}(1)\,$TeV can be searched at the (high-luminosity) LHC and future collider experiments. …
Using methods from effective field theory, we develop a novel, systematic framework for the calculation of the cross sections for electroweak gauge-boson production at small and very small transverse momentum q_T, in which large logarithms of the scale ratio M_V/q_T are resummed to all orders. These cross sections receive logarithmically enhanced corrections from two sources: the running of the hard matching coefficient and the collinear factorization anomaly. The anomaly leads to the dynamical generation of a non-perturbative scale q_* ~ M_V e^{-const/α_s(M_V)}, which protects the processes f…
In this work it is shown that, in contrast to the strong and electromagnetic theories, additive conserved numbers (such as lepton, aromatic and another numbers) and gamma-5 anomaly do not appear in the standard weak interaction theory. It means that in this interaction the additive numbers cannot be conserved. These results are the consequence of specific character of the weak interaction: the right components of spinors do not participate in this interaction. The schemes of violation of the aromatic and lepton numbers were considered.
In the presence of a gravitational contribution to the chiral anomaly, the chiral magnetic effect induces an energy current proportional to the square of the temperature in equilibrium. In holography the thermal state corresponds to a black hole. We numerically study holographic quenches in which a planar shell of scalar matter falls into a black hole and rises its temperature. During the process the momentum density (energy current) is conserved. The energy current has two components, a non-dissipative one induced by the anomaly and a dissipative flow component. The dissipative component can …
There is evidence for existence of massless Dirac quasi-particles in graphene, which satisfy Dirac equation in (1+2) dimensions near the so called Dirac points which lie at the corners at the graphene's brilluoin zone. It is shown that parity operator in (1+2) dimensions play an interesting role and can be used for defining conserved chiral currents [there is no gamma^5 in (1+2) dimensions]. It is shown that the "anomalous" current induced by an external gauge field can be related to the anomalous divergence of an axial vector current which arises due to quantum radiative corrections provided …
Recently, Komargodski and Seiberg have proposed a new type of supercurrent multiplet which contains the energy-momentum tensor and the supersymmetry current consistently. In this paper we study quantum properties of the supercurrent in renormalizable field theories. We point out that the new supercurrent gives a quite simple resolution to the classic problem, called the anomaly puzzle, that the Adler-Bardeen theorem applied to an R-symmetry current is inconsistent with all order corrections to $β$ functions. We propose an operator equation for the supercurrent in all orders of perturbation the…
We compute the effective coupling of the Majoron to W bosons at $\cO(\hbar)$ by evaluating the matrix element of the (B-L) current between the vacuum and a $W^+W^-$ state. The (B-L) anomaly vanishes, but the amplitude does not vanish as a result of a UV finite and non-local contribution which is entirely due to the mixing between left-chiral and right-chiral neutrinos. The result shows how anomaly-like couplings may arise in spite of the fact that the (B-L) current remains exactly conserved to all orders in $\hbar$, lending additional support to our previous proposal to identify the Majoron wi…
We propose a simple model to simultaneously explain four observed flavor anomalies while generating the neutrino mass at the one-loop level. Specifically, we address the measured anomalous magnetic dipole moments of the muon, $Δa_μ$ , and electron, $Δa_e$, the observed anomaly of $b\rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ in the $B$-meson decays, and the Cabibbo-angle anomaly. The model consists of four colorful new degrees of freedom: three scalar leptoquarks with the Standard Model quantum numbers $(3,3,-1/3),(3,2,1/6)$, and $(3,1,2/3)$, and one pair of down-quark-like vector fermion in $(3,1,-1/3)$. The bary…
A natural solution to the fermion mass hierarchy problem suggests the existence of a partially conserved chiral symmetry. We show that this can lead to a reasonably natural solution to the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems without fine-tuning or the addition of new low energy fermions. The atmospheric neutrino atmospheric neutrino anomaly is given by large mixing between $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$, with $Δm^2_{atm} \sim 10^{-3} \eV^2$, and the solar neutrino deficit is due to nearly maximal electron neutrino vacuum oscillations. We present an explicit model for the neutrino masses which is an anoma…
