The paper is concerned with the completeness property of root functions of the $2\times 2$ Dirac operator with summable complex-valued potential and non-regular boundary conditions. Sufficient conditions for the completeness of the root function system of the operator under consideration are established.
The paper is concerned with the completeness problem of root functions of general boundary value problems for first order systems of ordinary differential equations. Namely, we introduce and investigate the class of \emph{weakly regular boundary conditions}. We show that this class is much broader than the class of {\em regular boundary conditions} introduced by G.D. Birkhoff and R.E. Langer. Our main result states that the system of root functions of a boundary value problem is complete and minimal provided that the boundary conditions are weakly regular. Moreover, we show that in some cases …
The paper is concerned with the completeness property of root functions of general boundary value problems for $n \times n$ first order systems of ordinary differential equations on a finite interval. In comparison with the recent paper [45] we substantially relax the assumptions on boundary conditions guarantying the completeness of root vectors, allowing them to be non-weakly regular and even degenerate. Emphasize that in this case the completeness property substantially depends on the values of a potential matrix at the endpoints of the interval. It is also shown that the system of root vec…
We study the system of root functions (SRF) of Hill operator $Ly = -y^{\prime \prime} +vy $ with a singular potential $v \in H^{-1}_{per}$ and SRF of 1D Dirac operator $ Ly = i {pmatrix} 1 & 0 0 & -1 {pmatrix} \frac{dy}{dx} + vy $ with matrix $L^2$-potential $v={pmatrix} 0 & P Q & 0 {pmatrix},$ subject to periodic or anti-periodic boundary conditions. Series of necessary and sufficient conditions (in terms of Fourier coefficients of the potentials and related spectral gaps and deviations) for SRF to contain a Riesz basis are proven. Equiconvergence theorems are used to explain basis property o…
We consider a family of Dirac operators with potentials varying with respect to a parameter $h$. The set of potentials has different power-like decay independent of $h$. The proofs of existence and completeness of the wave operators are similar to that given in \cite{GAT}. We are mainly interested in the asymptotic behavior of the wave operators as $h\to\infty$.
This paper is related to an inverse problem for a class of Dirac operators with discontinuous coefficient and eigenvalue parameter contained in boundary conditions. The asymptotic formula of eigenvalues of this problem is examined. The theorem on completeness of eigenfunctions is proved. The expansion formula with respect to eigenfunctions is obtained and Parseval equality is given. Weyl solution and Weyl function are constructed. Uniqueness theorem of the inverse problem respect to the Weyl function is proved.
The paper is concerned with the Riesz basis property of a boundary value problem associated in $L^2[0,1] \otimes \mathbb{C}^2$ with the following $2 \times 2$ Dirac type equation $$ L y = -i B^{-1} y' + Q(x) y = λy, \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} b_1 & 0 \\ 0 & b_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad y = \begin{pmatrix} y_1 \\ y_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad (1) $$ with a summable potential matrix $Q \in L^1[0,1] \otimes \mathbb{C}^{2 \times 2}$ and $b_1 < 0 < b_2$. If $b_2 = -b_1 =1$ this equation is equivalent to one dimensional Dirac equation. It is proved that the system of root functions of a linear boundary value …
Spectral problem for the Dirac operator with regular but not strongly regular boundary conditions and complex-valued potential summable over a finite interval is considered. The purpose of this paper is to find conditions under which the root function system forms a usual Riesz basis rather than a Riesz basis with parentheses.
For one-dimensional Dirac operators $$ Ly= i \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 \\ 0 & -1 \end{pmatrix} \frac{dy}{dx} + v y, \quad v= \begin{pmatrix} 0 & P \\ Q & 0 \end{pmatrix}, \;\; y=\begin{pmatrix} y_1 \\ y_2 \end{pmatrix}, $$ subject to periodic or antiperiodic boundary conditions, we give necessary and sufficient conditions which guarantee that the system of root functions contains Riesz bases in $L^2 ([0,π], \mathbb{C}^2).$ In particular, if the potential matrix $v$ is skew-symmetric (i.e., $\overline{Q} =-P$), or more generally if $\overline{Q} =t P$ for some real $t \neq 0,$ then there exists a R…
One dimensional Dirac operators $$ L_{bc}(v) \, y = i \begin{pmatrix} 1 & 0 0 & -1 \end{pmatrix} \frac{dy}{dx} + v(x) y, \quad y = \begin{pmatrix} y_1 y_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad x\in[0,π],$$ considered with $L^2$-potentials $ v(x) = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & P(x) Q(x) & 0 \end{pmatrix} $ and subject to regular boundary conditions ($bc$), have discrete spectrum. For strictly regular $bc,$ it is shown that every eigenvalue of the free operator $L^0_{bc}$ is simple and has the form $λ_{k,α}^0 = k + τ_α$ where $ \; α\in \{1,2\}, \; k \in 2 \mathbb{Z} $ and $τ_α=τ_α(bc);$ if $|k|>N(v, bc) $ each of the dis…

Suppose $\mathcal{A}$ is a compact normal operator on a Hilbert space $H$ with certain lacunarity condition on the spectrum (which means, in particular, that its eigenvalues go to zero exponentially fast), and let $\mathcal{L}$ be its rank one perturbation. We show that either infinitely many moment equalities hold or the linear span of root vectors of $\mathcal{L}$, corresponding to non-zero eigenvalues, is of finite codimension in $H$. In contrast to classical results, we do not assume that the perturbation is weak.
We consider spectral problems for the Sturm-Liouville operator with arbitrary complex-valued potential q(x) and degenerate boundary conditions. We solve corresponding inverse problem, and also study the completeness property and the basis property of the root function system.
We consider perturbations of Dirac type operators on complete, connected metric spaces equipped with a doubling measure. Under a suitable set of assumptions, we prove quadratic estimates for such operators and hence deduce that these operators have a bounded functional calculus. In particular, we deduce a Kato square root type estimate.
We prove the theorem on the completeness of the root functions of the Schroedinger operator $L=-d^2/dx^2+p(x)$ on the semi-axis $\mathbb R_+$ with a complex--valued potential $p(x)$. It is assumed that the potential $p = q \pm ir$ is such that the real functions $q$ and $r$ are subject the conditions $$ q(x) \geqslant c r(x), \quad r(x) \geqslant c_0+ c_1 x^α, \quad α>0, $$ where the constants $c, \ c_0\in \mathbb R$, $c_1>0$ and $\arg(\pm i+c) < 2απ/(2+α)$. For the case of the Airy operator $L_c=-d^2/dx^2+cx$, $c=const$, this theorem imply the completeness of the system of the eigenfunctions …
The paper is concerned with completeness property of rank one perturbations of unperturbed operators generated by special boundary value problems (BVP) for the following $2 \times 2$ system \begin{equation} L y = -i B^{-1} y' + Q(x) y = λy , \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} b_1 & 0 \\ 0 & b_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad y = \begin{pmatrix} y_1 \\ y_2 \end{pmatrix}, \end{equation} on a finite interval assuming that a potential matrix $Q$ is summable, and $b_1 b_2^{-1} \notin \mathbb{R}$ (essentially non-Dirac type case). We assume that unperturbed operator generated by a BVP belongs to one of the following t…
For 1D Dirac operators Ly= i J y' + v y, where J is a diagonal 2x2 matrix with entrees 1,-1 and v(x) is an off-diagonal matrix with L^2 [0,π]-entrees P(x), Q(x) we characterize the class X of pi-periodic potentials v such that: (i) the smoothness of potentials v is determined only by the rate of decay of related spectral gaps gamma (n) = | λ(n,+) - λ(n,-)|, where λ(..) are the eigenvalues of L=L(v) considered on [0,π] with periodic (for even n) or antiperiodic (for odd n) boundary conditions (bc); (ii) there is a Riesz basis which consists of periodic (or antiperiodic) eigenfunctions and (at m…
In this paper, we study spectral problems for the Sturm-Liouville operator with arbitrary complexvalued potential q(x) and two-point boundary conditions. All types of mentioned boundary conditions are considered. We ivestigate in detail the completeness property and the basis property of the root function system.
We prove quadratic estimates for complex perturbations of Dirac-type operators, and thereby show that such operators have a bounded functional calculus. As an application we show that spectral projections of the Hodge--Dirac operator on compact manifolds depend analytically on $L_\infty$ changes in the metric. We also recover a unified proof of many results in the Calderón program, including the Kato square root problem and the boundedness of the Cauchy operator on Lipschitz curves and surfaces.
We revisit the damped string equation on a compact interval with a variety of boundary conditions and derive an infinite sequence of trace formulas associated with it, employing methods familiar from supersymmetric quantum mechanics. We also derive completeness and Riesz basis results (with parentheses) for the associated root functions under less smoothness assumptions on the coefficients than usual, using operator theoretic methods (rather than detailed eigenvalue and root function asymptotics) only.
In this article, we study and settle several structural questions concerning the exact solvability of the Olshanetsky-Perelomov quantum Hamiltonians corresponding to an arbitrary root system. We show that these operators can be written as linear combinations of certain basic operators admitting infinite flags of invariant subspaces, namely the Laplacian and the logarithmic gradient of invariant factors of the Weyl denominator. The coefficients of the constituent linear combination become the coupling constants of the final model. We also demonstr ate the $L^2$ completeness of the eigenfunction…
The paper is concerned with the following $n\times n$ Dirac type equation$$Ly=-iB(x)^{-1}(y'+Q(x)y)=λy, \quad B(x)=B(x)^*,\quad y={\rm col}(y_1,\ldots,y_n),\quad x\in[0,\ell],$$ on a finite interval $[0,\ell]$. Here $Q$ is a summable potential $n\times n$ matrix function and $B$ is an invertible self-adjoint diagonal bounded matrix function. If $n=2m$ and $B(x)={\rm diag}(-I_m,I_m)$, this equation is equivalent to Dirac equation of order $n$. We show the existence of triangular transformation operators for such equation under additional uniform separation conditions on the entries of the matri…
We prove that the Atiyah-Singer Dirac operator ${\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}$ in ${\mathrm L}^2$ depends Riesz continuously on ${\mathrm L}^{\infty}$ perturbations of complete metrics ${\mathrm g}$ on a smooth manifold. The Lipschitz bound for the map ${\mathrm g} \to {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}(1 + {\mathrm D}_{\mathrm g}^2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ depends on bounds on Ricci curvature and its first derivatives as well as a lower bound on injectivity radius. Our proof uses harmonic analysis techniques related to Calderón's first commutator and the Kato square root problem. We also show perturbation results for…
We study the entire function zeta(n,s) which is the sum of l to the power -s, where l runs over the positive eigenvalues of the Laplacian of the circular graph C(n) with n vertices. We prove that the roots of zeta(n,s) converge for n to infinity to the line Re(s)=1/2 in the sense that for every compact subset K in the complement of this line, and large enough n, no root of the zeta function zeta(n,s) is in K. To prove this, we look at the Dirac zeta function, which uses the positive eigenvalues of the Dirac operator D=d+d^* of the circular graph, the square root of the Laplacian. We extend a N…
One dimensional Dirac operators $$ L_{bc}(v) y = i 1 & 0 0 & -1 \frac{dy}{dx} + v(x) y, \quad y = y_1 y_2, \quad x\in[0,π]$$, considered with $L^2$-potentials $ v(x) = 0 & P(x) Q(x) & 0$ and subject to regular boundary conditions ($bc$), have discrete spectrum. For strictly regular $bc,$ the spectrum of the free operator $ L_{bc}(0) $ is simple while the spectrum of $ L_{bc}(v) $ is eventually simple, and the corresponding normalized root function systems are Riesz bases. For expansions of functions of bounded variation about these Riesz bases, we prove the uniform equiconvergence property and…
The paper is concerned with the Bari basis property of a boundary value problem associated in $L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^2)$ with the following $2 \times 2$ Dirac-type equation for $y = {\rm col}(y_1, y_2)$: $$L_U(Q) y =-i B^{-1} y' + Q(x) y = λy , \quad B = \begin{pmatrix} b_1 & 0 \\ 0 & b_2 \end{pmatrix}, \quad b_1 < 0 < b_2, $$ with a potential matrix $Q \in L^2([0,1]; \mathbb{C}^{2 \times 2})$ and subject to the strictly regular boundary conditions $Uy :=\{U_1, U_2\}y=0$. If $b_2 = -b_1 =1$ this equation is equivalent to one dimensional Dirac equation. We show that the system of root vectors $…
We develop a theory of regularity for Dirac operators with uniformly locally square-integrable operator data. This is motivated by Stahl--Totik regularity for orthogonal polynomials and by recent developments for continuum Schrödinger operators, but contains significant new phenomena. We prove that the symmetric Martin function at $\infty$ for the complement of the essential spectrum has the two-term asymptotic expansion $\Im \left( z - \frac{b}{2 z}\right) + o(\frac 1z)$ as $z \to i \infty$, which is seen as a thickness statement for the essential spectrum. The constant $b$ plays the role of …
