Hypernuclei are bound states of nuclei with one or more hyperons. Precise measurements of hypernuclei properties and their production yields in heavy ion collisions are crucial for the understanding of their production mechanisms. The second phase of the Beam Energy Scan at RHIC (BES-II) offers us a great opportunity to investigate collision energy and system size dependence of hypernuclei production. In these proceedings, we present new measurements on transverse momentum ($p_{T}$), rapidity (y), and centrality dependence of $\rm {}^{3}_ΛH$ production yields in Au+Au collisions from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3 to 7.7 GeV. These results are compared with phenomenological model calculations, and physics implications on the hypernuclei production mechanism are also discussed.
We report preliminary results of hypertriton observation in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. We have identified 157 +- 30 candidates in the current sample containing ~10^8 Au+Au events at \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. The production rate of hypertriton is close to that of helium 3. No extra penalty factor is observed for hypertriton, in contrast to results observed at the AGS.
The hypertriton is predicted to have a small binding energy (a weighted average of about 150 keV), consistent with a large matter radius (~ 10 fm), larger than the historical 11Li halo discovered more than 35 years ago. But the reported experimental values of the binding energy of the hypertriton range from 70 to 400 keV. In this work I discuss the electromagnetic response and interaction radius of the hypertriton and how high energy heavy ion collisions (~ 1 - 2 GeV/nucleon) can help achieving a higher accuracy for the determination of its size and binding energy.
The ALICE Collaboration collected a large data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV in 2015 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the excellent particle identification (PID) capabilities allow for the detection of rarely produced (anti-)hypernuclei. In particular, the (anti-)hypertriton, $^3_Λ$H, which is a bound state of a proton, a neutron and a $Λ$, is the lightest known hypernucleus. The results on the $^3_Λ$H production are compared with the predictions from a model based on coalescence approach and from statistical-thermal models to investigate the production me…
The production of dibaryons, light nuclei and hypertriton in the most central Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 11.5 and 200 GeV are investigated by using a naive coalescence model. The production of light nuclei is studied and found that the production rate reduces by a factor of 330 (1200) for each extra nucleon added to nuclei at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 11.5 (200) GeV. The $p_{T}$ integrated yield of multistrange hadrons falls exponentially as strangeness quantum number increases. We further investigate strangeness population factor $S_{3}, S_{2}$ as a function of transverse momentum as well as…
We resolve the difference in the yield ratio $\rm S_3$ = $\rm \frac{N_{^3_ΛH}/N_Λ}{N_{^3He}/N_p}$ measured in Au+Au collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV and in Pb-Pb collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV by adopting a different treatment of the weak decay contribution to the proton yield in Au+Au collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. We then use the coalescence model to extract information on the $Λ$ and nucleon density fluctuations at the kinetic freeze-out of heavy ion collisions. We also show from available experimental data that the yield ratio $\rm S_2$ = $\rm \frac{N…
The study of nuclei and antinuclei production has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation mechanism of loosely bound states in high-energy hadronic collisions. The first measurement of the production of ${\rm ^{3}_Λ\rm H}$ in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV is presented in this Letter. Its production yield measured in the rapidity interval $-1 < y < 0$ for the 40% highest multiplicity p-Pb collisions is ${\rm d} N /{\rm d} y =[\mathrm{6.3 \pm 1.8 (stat.) \pm 1.2 (syst.) ] \times 10^{-7}}$. The measurement is compared with the expectations of statistical had…
An improved value for the lifetime of the (anti-)hypertriton has been obtained using the data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = $ 5.02 TeV collected by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The (anti-)hypertriton has been reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel and the lifetime has been determined from an exponential fit to the d$N$/d($ct$) spectrum. The measured value, $τ$ = 242$^{+34}_{-38}$ (stat.) $\pm$ 17 (syst.) ps, is compatible with all the available theoretical predictions, thus contributing to the solution of the longstanding hypertriton lifetime…
Nuclear collisions recreate conditions in the universe microseconds after the Big Bang. Only a very small fraction of the emitted fragments are light nuclei, but these states are of fundamental interest. We report the observation of antihypertritons - composed of an antiproton, antineutron, and antilambda hyperon - produced by colliding gold nuclei at high energy. Our analysis yields 70 +- 17 antihypertritons and 157 +- 30 hypertritons. The measured yields of hypertriton (antihypertriton) and helium3 (antihelium3) are similar, suggesting an equilibrium in coordinate and momentum space populati…
In ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions a great variety of (anti-)(hyper-)nuclei are produced, namely deuteron, triton, $^3$He, $^4$He, hypertriton ($^3_Λ$H) and their antiparticles. The ALICE experiment is the most suited to investigate the production of (hyper-)nuclei at the LHC, thanks to an excellent particle identification and low-material budget detectors. Recent results on (hyper-)nuclei production as a function of transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) and charged particle multiplicity (d$N_{\rm{ch}}$/d$η$) in Pb-Pb collisions are presented. The evolution of the production yields with t…
A high-statistic data sample of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl events recorded with HADES is used to search for a hypertriton signal. An upper production limit per centrality-triggered event of $1.04$ x $10^{-3}$ on the $3σ$ level is derived. Comparing this value with the number of successfully reconstructed $Λ$ hyperons allows to determine an upper limit on the ratio $N_{_Λ^3H}/N_Λ$, which is confronted with statistical and coalescence-type model calculations.
A precise measurement of the hypertriton lifetime is presented. In this letter, the mesonic decay modes $\mathrm{{^3_Λ}H \rightarrow ^3He + π^-}$ and $\mathrm{{^3_Λ}H \rightarrow d + p + π^-}$ are used to reconstruct the hypertriton from Au+Au collision data collected by the STAR collaboration at RHIC. A minimum $χ^2$ estimation is used to determine the lifetime of $τ= 142^{+24}_{-21}\,{\rm (stat.)} {\pm} 31\,{\rm (syst.)}$ ps. This lifetime is about 50\% shorter than the lifetime $τ= 263\pm2$ ps of a free $Λ$, indicating strong hyperon-nucleon interaction in the hypernucleus system. The branc…
We present highlights of recent results from the STAR Collaboration at RHIC, focusing on the properties of the early medium created in heavy ion collisions. We emphasize the strangeness production including the observation of a hypernucleus (the hypertriton), the observation of reaction-plane-dependent angular correlation of charged particles searching for local strong parity violation effects in heavy ion collisions, and the evaluation of the medium viscosity from measurements of elliptic flow. We discuss STAR's plan for the "Critical Point Search" program at RHIC.
We show that the recently observed suppression of the yield ratio of deuteron to proton and of helium-3 to proton in p+p collisions compared to those in p+Pb or Pb+Pb collisions by the ALICE Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can be explained if light nuclei are produced from the coalescence of nucleons at the kinetic freeze-out of these collisions. This suppression is attributed to the non-negligible sizes of deuteron and helium-3 compared to the size of the nucleon emission source in collisions of small systems, which reduces the overlap of their internal wave functions with th…
A comparison of light hypernuclei production, from UrQMD+coalescence and the thermal model, in heavy ion collisions over a wide range of beam energies and system sizes is presented. We find that both approaches provide generally similar results, with differences in specific details. Especially the ratios of hypertriton to $Λ$ are affected by both the source radius $Δr$ of the coalescence procedure as well as canonical effects. On the other hand, the double ratio $S_3$ is almost independent of canonical effects, which is in contrast to coalescence. Thus, both the beam energy dependence and cent…
Using the coalescence model based on the phase-space distributions of protons, neutrons, Lambdas and their antiparticles from a multiphase transport (AMPT) model, we study the production of deuteron, triton, helium 3, hypertriton, hyperhelium 3 and their antinuclei in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV. The resulting transverse momentum spectra, elliptic flows and coalescence parameters for these nuclei are presented and compared with available experimental data. We also show the constituent number scaled elliptic flows of these nuclei and discuss their implications.
Conflicting values of the hypertriton lifetime $τ({}_Λ^3\mathrm{H})$ were derived in relativistic heavy ion (RHI) collision experiments over the last decade. A very recent ALICE Collaboration measurement is the only experiment where the reported $τ({}_Λ^3\mathrm{H})$ comes sufficiently close to the free-$Λ$ lifetime $τ_Λ$,as expected naively for a very weakly bound $Λ$ in ${}_Λ^3\mathrm{H}$. We revisited theoretically this ${}_Λ^3\mathrm{H}$ lifetime puzzle, using ${}_Λ^3\mathrm{H}$ and ${}^3\mathrm{He}$ wave functions computed within the abinitio no-core shell model employing interactions der…
Conflicting values of the hypertriton ($_Λ^{3}$H) lifetime were extracted in recent relativistic heavy-ion collision experiments. The ALICE Collaboration's reported $_Λ^{3}$H lifetime $τ(_Λ^{3}$H) is compatible within measurement uncertainties with the free $Λ$ lifetime $τ_Λ$, as naively expected for a loosely bound $Λ$ hyperon in $_Λ^{3}$H, whereas STAR's reported range of $τ(_Λ^{3}$H) values is considerably shorter: $τ_{\rm STAR}(_Λ^{3}$H)$\sim$(0.4-0.7)$τ_Λ$. This $_Λ^{3}$H lifetime puzzle is revisited theoretically using $_Λ^{3}$H three-body wavefunctions generated in a chiral effective fi…
The baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ is a fundamental parameter for the statistical mechanical description of particle production in heavy-ion collisions: its value encodes the average net baryon content of the fireball at chemical freeze-out. The first $μ_B$ measurement in high-energy Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC was published in 2018 in Nature, and it was found that $μ_B=0.7\pm3.8$ MeV. In this contribution, an improved $μ_B$ measurement based on the study of antiparticle-to-particle ratios for protons, $^3\mathrm{He}$ and hypertriton ($^3_Λ\mathrm{H}$) using the data collected by ALICE in Run…
Production of the (anti)hypertriton nuclei $\rm ^3_ΛH$ and $\rm ^3_{\overline Λ}\overline H$ in Cu+Cu interactions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}=200$GeV is studied at three centrality bins of 0-10\%, 10-30\% and 30-60\% using the dynamically constrained phase-space coalescence model together with [PACIAE] model simulations. The $\rm ^3H(^3\overline H)$ and $\rm ^3He(^3\overline {He})$ nuclei has been compared. It is indicated by the study that the yields of light nuclei and hypernuclei increase rapidly from peripheral to central collisions while their anti-particle to particle ratios keep unchanged f…
First results of ALICE on the production of nuclei and antinuclei in pp collisions at \surd s = 7 TeV are presented. These particles are identified using the energy loss (dE/dx) measurements in the Time Projection Chamber. The Inner Tracking System allows a precise determination of the event vertex, by which primary and secondary particles are well separated. The high statistics of over 350 M events give a significant number of light nuclei and antinuclei such as (anti)deuterons, (anti)tritons, (anti)Helium3 and possibly (anti)hypertritons. The study of nuclei and antinuclei will help to under…
The production of the hypertriton nuclei $^{3}_Λ\mathrm H$ and $^{3}_{\barΛ} \overline{\mathrm H}$ has been measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE experiment at LHC energies. The total yield, d$N$/d$y$ $\times \mathrm{B.R.}_{\left( ^{3}_Λ\mathrm H \rightarrow ^{3}\mathrm{He},π^{-} \right)} = \left( 3.86 \pm 0.77 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.68 (\mathrm{syst.})\right) \times 10^{-5}$ in the 0-10% most central collisions, is consistent with the predictions from a statistical thermal model using the same temperature as for the light hadrons. The…
Understanding the production mechanism of light (anti)nuclei is one of the key challenges of nuclear physics and has important consequences for astrophysics, since it provides an input for indirect dark-matter searches in space. In this paper, the latest results about the production of light (anti)nuclei in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV are presented, focusing on the comparison with the predictions of coalescence and thermal models. For the first time, the coalescence parameters $B_2$ for deuterons and $B_3$ for helions are compared with parameter-free theoretical predictions that are d…
This article gives an overview of recent highlights from experimental measurements of heavy-ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies: Measurements of electroweak probes constrain both the initial collision geometry and the nuclear parton distribution functions. Results from soft particle production show that the abundance of light-flavour hadrons from pions up to hypertriton and $^4$He can be described by a universal temperature and that these participate in the collective motion of the system. There are hints of these effects also in small systems, which will be further investigated in f…
The high center-of-mass energies delivered by the LHC during the last three years of operation led to accumulate a significant statistics of light (hyper-)nuclei in pp, p--Pb and Pb--Pb collisions. The ALICE apparatus allows for the detection of these rarely produced particles over a wide momentum range thanks to its excellent vertexing, tracking and particle identification capabilities. The last is based on the specific energy loss in the Time Projection Chamber and the velocity measurement with the Time-Of-Flight detector. The Cherenkov technique, exploited by a small acceptance detector (HM…
The $Λ$ separation energy for $Λ$-hypernuclei, denoted $B_Λ$, measured in 1967, 1968, and 1973 are recalibrated using the current best mass estimates for particles and nuclei. The recalibrated $B_Λ$ are systematically larger (except in the case of $^6_Λ$He) than the original published values by about 100 keV. The effect of this level of recalibration is very important for light hypernuclei, especially for the hypertriton. The early $B_Λ$ values measured in 1967, 1968, and 1973 are widely used in theoretical research, and the new results provide better constraints on the conclusions from such s…
We report the measurement of the directed flow ($v_{1}$) for charged kaons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ =7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4 and 200 GeV as a function of rapidity and compare these results for pions, protons and antiprotons. These new kaon results may help to constrain the medium properties and collision dynamics including the in-medium kaon potential and baryon number transport in these collisions.
The phase diagram of strongly interacting matter can be explored by analyzing data of heavy-ion collisions at different center of mass collision energies. For investigating the space-time structure of the hadron emission source, HBT correlation measurements are among the best tools. In this paper we present the latest results from the RHIC PHENIX experiment on such measurements in $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 39 GeV and 62 GeV Au+Au collisions.
Coulomb effects on charged pion transverse momentum spectra produced in Au+Au collisions at RHIC-BES energies are investigated. From these spectra the π-/π+ ratios as a function of transverse momentum are obtained and used to extract the Coulomb kick (a momentum change due to Coulomb interaction) and initial pion ratio for three different collision energies and various centrality classes. The Coulomb kick shows a decrease with the increase of beam energy and a clear centrality dependence, with larger values for the most central collisions. The results are connected with the kinetic freeze-out …
We present data on strange particle production in elementary proton-proton collisions at RHIC energies. Comparison to leading order and next-to-leading order (NLO) calculations shows that the fragmentation process is flavor dependent and that higherorder corrections are needed to describe all spectra, in particular at these collision energies, which are modest compared to the Tevatron energies. A model (EPOS) which takes into account multiple scattering between projectile constituents seems to describe the data best.
We present a fully three-dimensional initial state model for relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) collision energies. The initial energy and net baryon density profiles are produced based on a classical string deceleration model. The baryon stopping and fluctuations during this early stage of the collision are investigated by studying the net baryon rapidity distribution and longitudinal decorrelation of the transverse geometry.
In these proceedings, we report the elliptic ($v_{2}$) and triangular ($v_{3}$) flow measurements of strange and multi-strange hadrons such as $K_{S}^{0}$, ~$Λ$($\barΛ$), ~$ϕ$, ~$Ξ^{-}$($\barΞ^{+}$), and $Ω^{-}$($\barΩ^{+}$) at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 1.0$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 19.6 GeV using high statistics Beam Energy Scan Phase-II (BES-II) data. The transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) dependence, centrality dependence, and the number of constituent quarks (NCQ) scaling of $v_{2}$ and $v_{3}$ are studied for all these particles. A better NCQ scaling is observed in the case of anti…
Using a hybrid (viscous hydrodynamics + hadronic cascade) framework, we model the bulk dynamical evolution of relativistic heavy-ion collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) Beam Energy Scan (BES) collision energies, including the effects from non-zero net baryon current and its dissipative diffusion. This framework is in full (3+1)D, which allows us to study the non-trivial longitudinal structure and dynamics of the collision systems, for example baryon stopping and transport, as well as longitudinal fluctuations. For the first time, the quantitative effect of net-baryon diffusion…
It is shown that the molecular model for the X{3872) state contradicts the new experimental data as well as the old ones. It is suggested to study the χ_{c1} and χ_{b1} states in the e+e-\toχ_{c1}/χ_{b1} reactions.
In these proceedings we discuss the recent precision measurements of charge separation difference between Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV by STAR collaboration. The measurements indicate that the magnitude of the difference in the charge separation attributable to the magnetic fields between the two systems is smaller than previously expected. We also present charge separation measurements on the Chiral Magnetic Effect search from the RHIC BES-II experiment using the Event Plane Detectors (EPD) from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} =$ 27 GeV.
In the RHIC Beam Energy Scan program, gold nuclei are collided with different collision energies in the range from few to 62.4 GeV. The goals of the program are to explore the onset of QGP creation, locate the critical point of QCD and study dense baryon matter. We report on the first application of Monte Carlo Glauber (GLISSANDO2) and T$_{\rm R}$ENTo $p=0$ initial states extended to 3D for event-by-event viscous fluid dynamic (vHLLE) with hadronic cascade modelling of Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=27$ and 62.4 GeV, which is the upper region of RHIC BES energies. The initial states…
We develop a (3+1)-dimensional hybrid evolution model for heavy-ion collisions with dynamical sources for the energy-momentum tensor and baryon current. During an initial pre-equilibrium stage based on UrQMD, the four-momenta and baryon numbers carried by secondary particles created within UrQMD are fed continuously, after a short thermalization time, into a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic evolution module including baryon transport. The sensitivity of the initial conditions to model parameters and the effect of baryon diffusion on the hydrodynamic evolution are studied.
Analysis of directed flow ($v_1$) of protons, antiprotons and pions in heavy-ion collisions is performed in the range of collision energies $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.7--39 GeV. Simulations have been done within a three-fluid model employing a purely hadronic equation of state (EoS) and two versions of the EoS with deconfinement transitions: a first-order phase transition and a smooth crossover transition. The crossover EoS is unambiguously preferable for the description of the most part of experimental data in this energy range. The directed flow indicates that the crossover deconfinement transition…
STAR collaboration at RHIC has recently measured the polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in non-central heavy ion collisions in the RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) program. The magnitude of the polarization was found to decrease from few percents at the lowest BES energies to $\approx0.2$% at the top RHIC energy. The polarization signal has been reproduced in different hydrodynamic calculations assuming a thermodynamic spin-vorticity coupling mechanism at the Cooper-Frye hypersurface. In this work an extension of our existing calculations of the $Λ$ polarization in the RHIC BES program to the top RHIC an…
Equilibration of highly excited baryon-rich matter is studied within the microscopic model calculations in A+A collisions at energies of BES, FAIR and NICA. It is shown that the system evolution from the very beginning of the collision can be approximated by relativistic hydrodynamics, although the hot and dense nuclear matter is not in local equilibrium yet. During the evolution of the fireball the extracted values of energy density, net baryon and net strangeness densities are used as an input to Statistical Model (SM) in order to calculate temperature $T$, chemical potentials $μ_B$ and $μ_S…
We present calculations of the chemical freeze-out temperature (T_ch) based on particle yields from STAR and ALICE measured at collision energies ranging from sqrt{s_{NN}} = 11.5 GeV to 5.02 TeV. Employing the Grand Canonical Ensemble approach using the Thermal-FIST Hadron Resonance Gas model package, we show evidence for a flavour-dependent chemical freeze-out in the crossover region of the QCD phase diagram. At a vanishing baryochemical potential, we calculate light and strange flavour freeze-out temperatures T_L = 150.2 +- 2.6 MeV and T_S = 165.1 +- 2.7 MeV, respectively.
We present a fully three-dimensional model providing initial conditions for energy and conserved charge density distributions in heavy ion collisions at RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) collision energies. The model includes the dynamical deceleration of participating nucleons or valence quarks. It provides a realistic estimation of the initial baryon stopping during the early stage of collisions. We also present the implementation of the model with 3+1 dimensional hydrodynamics, which involves the addition of source terms that deposit energy and net-baryon densities produced by the initial state m…
Fluctuations of conserved quantities are sensitive observables to probe the signature of QCD phase transition and critical point in heavy-ion collisions. With the UrQMD model, we have studied the centrality and energy dependence of various order cumulants and cumulant ratios (up to fourth order) of net-proton,net-charge and net-kaon multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, 200 GeV. The model results show that the production mechanism of the particles and anti-particles have significant impacts on the cumulants of net-particles multiplici…
We study statistics dependence of the probability distributions and the means of measured moments of conserved quantities, respectively. The required statistics of all interested moments and their products are estimated based on a simple simulation. We also explain why the measured moments are underestimated when the statistics are insufficient. With the statistics at RHIC/BES, the second and third order moments can be reliably obtained based on the method of Centrality bin width correction (CBWC), which can not be applied for the fourth order moments at low energy. With planning statistics at …
In these proceedings, we present the measurements of proton, light nuclei, and strange particle with neutral kaons correlation functions in Au+Au collisions at the BES program and top RHIC energy. The experimental results will be compared with model calculations to extract the size of emitting source and the properties of final state interactions. The collision energy and centrality dependence of the source size will be studied. Further, the implications for the production mechanism of light nuclei will be discussed.
