We report the discovery of 40 new satellite dwarf galaxy candidates in the sphere of influence of the Sombrero galaxy (M104) the most luminous galaxy in the Local Volume. Using the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam, we surveyed 14.4 square degrees of its surroundings, extending to the virial radius. Visual inspection of the deep images and GALFIT modelling yielded a galaxy sample highly complete down to $M_{g}\sim-9$ ($L_{g}\sim3\times 10^{5}\,L_\odot$) and spanning magnitudes $-16.4 < M_g < -8$ and half-light radii $50\,pc\ <\ r_e\ <\ 1600\,pc$ assuming the distance of M104. These 40 new, out of which 27 are group members with high confidence, double the number of potential satellites of M104 within the virial radius, placing it among the richest hosts in the Local Volume. Using a Principle Component Analysis (PCA), we find that the entire sample of candidates consistent with an almost circular on-sky distribution, more circular than any comparable environment found in the Illustris TNG100-1 simulation. However the distribution of the high probability sample is more oblate and consistent with the simulation. The cumulative satellite luminosity function is broadly consistent with analogues from the simulation, albeit it contains no bright satellite with $M_{g}<-16.4$ ($L_{g}\sim3 \times 10^{8}\,L_\odot$), a $2.3\,σ$ occurrence. Follow-up spectroscopy to confirm group membership will begin to demonstrate how these systems can act as probes of the structure and formation history of the halo of M104.
Distances and radial velocities of galaxies in the vicinity of the luminous early-type galaxy M 104 (Sombrero) are used to derive its dark matter mass. Two dwarf galaxies: UGCA 307 and KKSG 30 situated near M 104 were observed with the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the Hubble Space Telescope. The distances $9.03^{+0.84}_{-0.51}$ Mpc (UGCA 307) and $9.72^{+0.44}_{-0.41}$ Mpc (KKSG 30) were determined using the tip of the red giant branch method. These distances are consistent with the dwarf galaxies being satellites of Sombrero. Using radial velocities and projected separations of UGCA 307, KK…

We present initial results of a survey of host $L_{*}$ galaxies environments in the Local Volume ($D<10\,$Mpc) searching for satellite dwarf galaxy candidates using the wide-field Hyper Suprime-Cam imager on the 8m Subaru Telescope. The current paper presents complete results on NGC2683 ($M_{B_T,0}=-19.62$, $D=9.36\,Mpc$, $v_{\odot}=411\,km\,s^{-1}$), an isolated Sc spiral galaxy in the Leo Spur. At the distance of NGC2683, we image the complete volume out to projected radii of $380\,kpc$ using a hexagonal arrangement of 7 pointings. Direct inspection of the images is complete down to $M_{g}\s…
Dwarf galaxies and their dark matter (DM) halos have the velocity curves of a different character than those in large galaxies. They are modelled by a simple pseudo iso-thermal model containing only two parameters that do not allow to obtain insight into physics of the DM halo. We would like to obtain some insight into the physical conditions in DM halos of dwarf galaxies by using a simple physically based model of DM halos. In order to treat a diversity of the dwarf galaxy velocity profiles in a unifying framework, we apply the polytropic spheres characterised by the polytropic index $n$ and …
The evolution of a satellite galaxy of a Milky Way like galaxy has been studied using N-Body simulations. The initial satellites, containing one million particles, have been simulated by a Plummer sphere, while the potential of the host galaxy is a three component rigid potential: disc, bulge and dark matter halo. It has been found that several orbits of the satellites allow for the existence, for about 1 Gyr or more, of an out-of-equilibrium body that could be interpreted as a dSph satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. In addition, from the study of the evolution of the mass-to-light ratios of s…
M104 (NGC 4594, the Sombrero galaxy) is a mysterious massive early-type galaxy that shows a dominant bulge and a prominent disk. However, the presence of a halo in M104 has been elusive, and it is not yet known how M104 has acquired such a peculiar structure. Using wide ($\sim2$ deg$^2$) and deep $ugi$ images of M104 obtained with the CFHT/MegaCam, we detect a large number of globular clusters (GCs) found out to $R\approx35'$ ($\sim100$ kpc). The color distribution of these GCs shows two subpopulations: a blue (metal-poor) system and a red (metal-rich) system. The total number of GCs is estima…
We show that measuring the proper motion of ${\sim 2000}$ stars within a dwarf galaxy, with an uncertainty of 1 km/s at most, can establish whether the Dark Matter (DM) density profile of the dwarf has a central core or cusp. We derive these limits by building mock star catalogues similar to those expected from future astrometric {\it Theia}-like missions and including celestial coordinates, radial velocity and proper motion of the stars. The density field of the DM halo of the dwarf is sampled from an extended Navarro-Frank-White (eNWF) spherical model, whereas the number density distribution…
Monte Carlo (MC) method played an essential role in many areas of human activity and has found application in many branches of physical science. This paper proposes a computational technique based on MC algorithms to solve Lane-Emden (LE) type equations. We analyze four LE equations arising in astrophysics: the positive and negative indices of the polytropic gas spheres, the isothermal gas sphere, and the white dwarf equation. We calculated eleven models (i.e., eleven LE equations) of the positive index polytropes, nine for the negative index polytrope, the isothermal gas sphere, and the white…
Star-forming Compact Dwarf Galaxies (CDGs) resemble the expected pristine conditions of the first galaxies in the Universe and are the best systems to test models on primordial galaxy formation and evolution. Here we report on one of such CDGs, Tololo 1214-277, which presents a broad, single peaked, highly symmetric Ly$α$ emission line that had evaded theoretical interpretation so far. In this paper we reproduce for the first time these line features with two different physically motivated kinematic models: an interstellar medium composed by outflowing clumps with random motions and an homogen…
We present a method to identify Ultra Faint Dwarf Galaxy (UFDG) candidates in the halo of the Milky Way using the future Gaia catalogue and we explore its detection limits and completeness. The method is based on the Wavelet Transform and searches for over-densities in the combined space of sky coordinates and proper motions, using kinematics in the search for the first time. We test the method with a Gaia mock catalogue that has the Gaia Universe Model Snapshot (GUMS) as a background, and use a library of around 30 000 UFDGs simulated as Plummer spheres with a single stellar population. For t…
The motions of gas and stars in the nuclei of nearby large galaxies have demonstrated that massive black holes are common and that their masses strongly correlate with the stellar velocity dispersion $σ_{\star}$ of the bulge. This correlation suggests that massive black holes and galaxies influence each other's growth. Dynamical measurements are less reliable when the sphere of influence is unresolved, thus it remains unknown whether this correlation exists in galaxies much smaller than the Milky Way, as well as what fraction of these galaxies have central black holes. Light echoes from photoi…

The main goal of this work is to form a large, deep and representative sample of dwarf galaxies residing in voids of the nearby Universe. The formed sample is the basement for the comprehensive mass study of the galaxy content, their evolutionary status, clustering and dynamics with respect to their counterparts residing in more typical, denser regions and for study of void small-scale substructures. We present 25 voids over the entire sky within 25 Mpc from the Local Group. They are defined as groups of lumped empty spheres bounded by `luminous' galaxies with the absolute K-band magnitudes br…

The SHINE project is a 500-star survey performed with SPHERE on the VLT for the purpose of directly detecting new substellar companions and understanding their formation and early evolution. Here we present an initial statistical analysis for a subsample of 150 stars that are representative of the full SHINE sample. Our goal is to constrain the frequency of substellar companions with masses between 1 and 75 MJup and semimajor axes between 5 and 300 au. We adopt detection limits as a function of angular separation from the survey data for all stars converted into mass and projected orbital sepa…
We have conducted a feasibility study to determine the effectiveness of using USNO-B1.0 data to preferentially detect objects with displaced red and blue components. A procedure was developed to search catalogue entries for such objects, which include M dwarfs paired with white dwarfs or with earlier main-sequence stars, and galaxies with asymmetric colour distributions. Residual differences between red and blue and infrared and blue scanned emulsion images define vectors, which, when appropriately aligned and of sufficient length, signal potential candidates. Test sample sets were analysed to…
We present the compilation of the Fifth Catalogue of Nearby Stars (CNS5), based on astrometric and photometric data from Gaia EDR3 and Hipparcos, and supplemented with parallaxes from ground-based astrometric surveys carried out in the infrared. The aim of the CNS5 is to provide the most complete sample of objects in the solar neighbourhood. For all known stars and brown dwarfs in the 25 pc sphere around the Sun, basic astrometric and photometric parameters are given. Furthermore, we provide the colour-magnitude diagram and various luminosity functions of the stellar content in the solar neigh…
