We study risk processes with level dependent premium rate. Assuming that the premium rate converges, as the risk reserve increases, to the critical value in the net-profit condition, we obtain upper and lower bounds for the ruin probability. In contrast to existing in the literature results, our approach is purely probabilistic and based on the analysis of Markov chains with asymptotically zero drift.
The paper deals with a generalization of the risk model with stochastic premiums where dependence structures between claim sizes and inter-claim times as well as premium sizes and inter-premium times are modeled by Farlie--Gumbel--Morgenstern copulas. In addition, dividends are paid to its shareholders according to a threshold dividend strategy. We derive integral and integro-differential equations for the Gerber--Shiu function and the expected discounted dividend payments until ruin. Next, we concentrate on the detailed investigation of the model in the case of exponentially distributed claim…
The paper deals with a generalization of the risk model with stochastic premiums where dividends are paid according to a multi-layer dividend strategy. First of all, we derive piecewise integro-differential equations for the Gerber--Shiu function and the expected discounted dividend payments until ruin. In addition, we concentrate on the detailed investigation of the model in the case of exponentially distributed claim and premium sizes and find explicit formulas for the ruin probability as well as for the expected discounted dividend payments. Lastly, numerical illustrations for some multi-la…
Generalizing earlier work of Delbaen and Haezendonck for given compound renewal process $S$ under a probability measure $P$ we characterize all probability measures $Q$ on the domain of $P$ such that $Q$ and $P$ are progressively equivalent and $S$ remains a compound renewal process under $Q$. As a consequence, we prove that any compound renewal process can be converted into a compound Poisson process through a change of measures and we show how this approach is related to premium calculation principles.
In this paper we introduce a new concept for modelling electricity prices through the introduction of an unobservable intrinsic electricity price $p(τ)$. We use it to connect the classical theory of storage with the concept of a risk premium. We derive prices for all common contracts such as the intraday spot price, the day-ahead spot price, and futures prices. Finally, we propose an explicit model from the class of structural models and conduct an empirical analysis, where we find an overall negative risk premium.
As cyber attacks have become more frequent, cyber insurance premiums have increased, resulting in the need for better modeling of cyber risk. Toward this direction, Jevtić and Lanchier (2020) proposed a dynamic structural model of aggregate loss distribution for cyber risk of small and medium-sized enterprises under the assumption of a tree-based local-area-network topology that consists of the combination of a Poisson process, homogeneous random trees, bond percolation processes, and cost topology. Their model assumes that the contagion spreads through the edges of the network with the same f…
In this paper, we build on the techniques developed in Albrecher et al. (2013), to generate initial-boundary value problems for ruin probabilities of surplus-dependent premium risk processes, under a renewal case scenario, Erlang (2) claim arrivals, and an exponential claims scenario, Erlang (2) claim sizes. Applying the approximation theory of solutions of linear ordinary differential equations developed in Fedoryuk (1993), we derive the asymptotics of the ruin probabilities when the initial reserve tends to infinity. When considering premiums that are {\it linearly} dependent on reserves, re…
In this paper we provide an expansion formula for Hawkes processes which involves the addition of jumps at deterministic times to the Hawkes process in the spirit of the well-known integration by parts formula (or more precisely the Mecke formula) for Poisson functional. Our approach allows us to provide an expansion of the premium of a class of cyber insurance derivatives (such as reinsurance contracts including generalized Stop-Loss contracts) or risk management instruments (like Expected Shortfall) in terms of so-called shifted Hawkes processes. From the actuarial point of view, these proce…
This project works with the risk model developed by Li et al. (2015) and quests modelling, estimating and pricing insurance for risks brought in by innovative technologies, or other emerging or latent risks. The model considers two different risk streams that arise together, however not clearly separated or observed. Specifically, we consider a risk surplus process where premia are adjusted according to past claim frequencies, like in a Bonus-Malus (BM) system, when we consider a classical or historical risk stream and an unforeseeable risk one. These are unknown risks which can be of high unc…
On the time spent in the red by a refracted Lévy risk process
This paper proceeds an approximate calculation of ultimate time survival probability for bi-seasonal discrete time risk model when premium rate equals two. The same model with income rate equal to one was investigated in 2014 by Damarackas and Šiaulys. In general, discrete time and related risk models deal with possibility for a certain version of random walk to hit a certain threshold at least once in time. In this research, the mentioned threshold is the line $u+2t$ and random walk consists from two interchangeably occurring independent but not necessarily identically distributed random vari…
This paper investigates a Pareto optimal insurance problem, where the insured maximizes her rank-dependent utility preference and the insurer is risk neutral and employs the mean-variance premium principle. To eliminate potential moral hazard issues, we only consider the so-called moral-hazard-free insurance contracts that obey the incentive compatibility constraint. The insurance problem is first formulated as a non-concave maximization problem involving Choquet expectation, then turned into a concave quantile optimization problem and finally solved by the calculus of variations method. The o…
We develop a novel stochastic valuation and premium calculation principle based on probability measure distortions that are induced by quantile processes in continuous time. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived under which the quantile processes satisfy first- and second-order stochastic dominance. The introduced valuation principle relies on stochastic ordering so that the valuation risk-loading, and thus risk premiums, generated by the measure distortion is an ordered parametric family. The quantile processes are generated by a composite map consisting of a distribution and a quan…
