In this paper, we employ the gauge/gravity duality to study some features of the quark gluon plasma. For this purpose, we implement a holographic QCD model constructed from an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity at finite temperature and finite chemical potential. The model captures both the confinement and deconfinement phases of QCD and we use it to study the effect of temperature and chemical potential on a heavy quark moving through the plasma. We calculate the drag force, Langevin diffusion coefficients and also the jet quenching parameter, and our results align with other holographic QCD models and the experimental data.
We present a five-dimensional fully anisotropic holographic model for heavy quarks supported by Einstein-dilaton-three-Maxwell action; one of the Maxwell fields is related to an external magnetic field. Influence of the external magnetic field on the 5-dim black hole solution and the confinement/deconfinement phase diagram is considered. The effect of the inverse magnetic catalyses is revealed and positions of critical end points are found.
The electric conductivity and direct photons emission rate are considered in the holographic theory with two types of anisotropy. The electric conductivity is derived in two different ways, and their equivalence for the twice anisotropic theory is shown. Numerical calculations of the electric conductivity were done for Einstein-dilaton-three-Maxwell holographic model [29]. The dependence of the conductivity on the temperature, the chemical potential, the external magnetic field, and the spatial anisotropy of the heavy-ions collision (HIC) is studied. The electric conductivity jumps near the fi…
We estimate the thermalization time in two colliding shock waves holographic model of heavy-ion collisions. For this purpose we model the process by the Vaidya metric with a horizon defined by the trapped surface location. We consider two bottom-up AdS/QCD models that give, within the colliding shock waves approach, the dependence of multiplicity on the energy compatible with RHIC and LHC results. One model is a bottom-up AdS/QCD confining model and the other is related to an anisotropic thermalization. We estimate the thermalization time and show that increasing the confining potential decrea…
The viscosity of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) is usually described holographically by the entropy-normalized dynamic viscosity $η/s$. However, other measures of viscosity, such as the kinematic viscosity $ν$ and the Reynolds number $Re$, are often useful, and they too should be investigated from a holographic point of view. We show that a simple model of this kind puts an upper bound on $Re$ for nearly central collisions at a given temperature; this upper bound is in very good agreement with the observational lower bound (from the RHIC facility). Furthermore, in a holographic approach using on…
This manuscript reviews recent theoretical progress on the understanding of the quark gluon plasma in a magnetic field that I presented on the conference Hot Quarks 2016, held at South Padre Island, Texas, USA, 12-17 September 2016. It is shown that, using a holographic bottom-up Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton model, one can have a good quantitative agreement with Lattice data for QCD equation of state and Polyakov loop with nonzero magnetic field. I also present results for the anisotropic shear viscosity ratio $η_{\parallel}/η_{\perp}$, with the conclusion that $η_{\parallel}<η_{\perp}$ for $B>0$.
We calculate the photon emission rate and the electrical conductivity of the QGP at finite temperature and finite chemical potential using AdS/QCD approximations in an AdS Reissner Nordstrom background. To do so, we supposed the medium properties to be encoded in a geometric background. The results obtained in the hard wall and soft wall model are consistent with the observed phenomenology and they also in agree with other holographic results, as the D3/D7 or the Sakai Sugimoto models, suggesting the universality of AdS/CFT conjecture as tool to explore QCD.
We assume that the initial hydrodynamic environment is a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) phase where merely u and d quarks are considered when adding a magnetic field. When considering the chiral magnetic effect in relativistic heavy ion collisions, an anomalous current will be formed in the QGP environment. The chiral magnetic current formed by these u and d quarks has an impact on the heavy quarkonium. By using fluid/gravity duality, the metric with anomalous flow is established by using fluid/gravity duality, so as to introduce the magnetic field effect into the corresponding metric. And then we u…
We compute the homogeneous limit of non-hydrodynamic quasinormal modes (QNM's) of a phenomenologically realistic Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) holographic model for the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) that is able to: i) {\it quantitatively} describe state-of-the-art lattice results for the QCD equation of state and higher order baryon susceptibilities with $2+1$ flavors and physical quark masses up to highest values of the baryon chemical potential currently reached in lattice simulations; ii) describe the nearly perfect fluidity of the strongly coupled QGP produced in ultrarelativistic heavy ion c…
In this thesis, we study the physics of the quark gluon plasma (QGP) using holographic methods borrowed from string theory. We start our discussion by motivating the use of such machinery, explaining how recent experimental results from the LHC and RHIC colliders suggests that the created QGP should be described as a strongly coupled liquid with small but nonvanishing bulk and shear viscosities. We argue that holographic dualities are a very efficient framework for studying transport properties in such a medium. Next, we introduce the underlying physics behind all holographic dualities, the Ad…
Currently there is intense interest in the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma produced in peripheral collisions of heavy ions at various facilities, such as the RHIC. In particular, it is essential to understand the difference between such plasmas and their more readily understood counterparts produced in nearly central collisions. The differences arise primarily from the intense magnetic and vorticity fields generated in the QGP in the peripheral case. It has been argued that the magnetic fields might have a profound effect on QGP thermodynamics. Here we will argue, using a gauge-gravity mo…
We continue to study the holographic QCD (hQCD) model, proposed in a previous paper, in an Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) system. In this paper we discuss some aspects of quark gluon plasma (QGP) in the hQCD model, such as drag force, jet quenching parameter and screening length. The results turn out to be consistent with those as expected in QCD qualitatively. By calculating free energy of the background black hole solution, we find that there exists a Hawking-Page phase transition between small black hole and big black hole when chemical potential $μ$ is less than a critical one $ μ_c$, and …
The holographic approach to double diffractive Higgs production is presented for the AdS graviton/Pomeron. The goal is to provide a predictive phenomenology for the strong coupling expansion of QCD. This is the first step to set up the framework for the double diffractive Higgs production in anticipation of experimental observations at the LHC. Comparisons are made with the weak coupling approach based on the BFKL Pomeron models and soft Regge parameterizations.

We investigate the softwall AdS/CFT model. We specifically looked at the Pomeron, leading Regge contribution to a scattering process and used it to fit deep inelastic scattering data from the HERA collaboration. We find that the model fits the data with much more success than the purely conformal case, and find similar success to previous confinement models.
Bottomonium and charmonium, representing quarkonia states, are scrutinized under the point of view of the information theory, in the AdS/QCD holographic setup. A logarithmic measure of information, comprised by the configurational entropy, is here employed to quantitatively study quarkonia radially excited S-wave states. The configurational entropy provides data regarding the relative dominance and the abundance of the bottomonium and charmonium states, whose underlying information is more compressed, in the Shannon's theory meaning. The derived configurational entropy, therefore, identifies t…
Starting from the Hamiltonian equation of motion in QCD we find a single variable light-front equation for QCD which determines the eigenspectrum and the light-front wavefunctions of hadrons for general spin and orbital angular momentum. This light-front wave equation is equivalent to the equations of motion which describe the propagation of spin-$J$ modes on anti-de Sitter (AdS) space.
Based on the IR-improved bulk holographic AdS/QCD model which provides a consistent prediction for the mass spectra of resonance scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector mesons, we investigate its finite temperature behavior. By analyzing the spectral function of mesons and fitting it with a Breit-Wigner form, we perform an analysis for the critical temperature of mesons. The back-reaction effects of bulk vacuum are considered, the thermal mass spectral function of resonance mesons is calculated based on the back-reaction improved action. A reasonable melting temperature is found to be $T…
In this paper we will show some applications achieved within type IIB superstring backgrounds since the emergence of the AdS/CFT correspondence. This correspondence relates a super Yang-Mills (SYM) theory, with strong coupling, and a type IIB superstring theory, with weak coupling. The use of the AdS/CFT correspondence allows us to investigate many aspects of hadronic physics described by QCD outside the perturbative regime, for example, glueball masses and the Regge trajectories related to the pomeron and the odderon. Throughout the text we will deal with the AdS/CFT correspondence within the…
This is a contribution for the Proceedings of 5th International Conference on New Frontiers in Physics (ICNFP 2016), held at Crete, 6-14 July 2016. Our goal is to obtain phenomenologically reliable insights for the physics of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) from the holography. I briefly review how in the holographic setup one can describe the QGP formation in heavy ion collisions and how to get quantitatively the main characteristics of the QGP formation -- the total multiplicity and the thermalization time. To fit the experimental form of dependence of total multiplicity on energy, obtained at …
The minimization of the Nambu-Goto action for a surface whose contour defines a circular Wilson loop of radius a placed at a finite value of the coordinate orthogonal to the boundary is considered. This is done for asymptotically AdS spaces. The condensates of even dimension $n=2$ through $10$ are calculated in terms of the coefficient of $a^{n}$ in the expansion of the on-shell subtracted Nambu-Goto action for small $a$ The subtraction employed is such that it presents no conflict with conformal invariance in the AdS case and need not introduce an additional infrared scale for the case of con…
We obtain the thermal photon and dilepton production rates in a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma (QGP) at both zero and nonzero baryon chemical potential using a bottom-up Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) holographic model that is in good quantitative agreement with the thermodynamics of $(2+1)$-flavor lattice QCD around the crossover transition for baryon chemical potentials up to 400 MeV, which may be reached in the beam energy scan (BES) at RHIC. We find that increasing the temperature $T$ and the baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ enhances the peak present in both spectra. We also obtain the…
The thermal-photon emission from strongly coupled gauge theories at finite temperature is calculated using holographic models for QCD in the Veneziano limit (V-QCD). The emission rates are then embedded in hydrodynamic simulations combined with prompt photons from hard scattering and the thermal photons from hadron gas to analyze the spectra and anisotropic flow of direct photons at RHIC and LHC. The results from different sources responsible for the thermal photons in QGP including the weakly coupled QGP (wQGP) from perturbative calculations, strongly coupled $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills …
The AdS/QCD holographic wave function of basis light-front quantization (BLFQ) for vector meson $J/ψ$ is applied in this manuscript. The exclusive production of $J/ψ$ in diffractive process is computed in dipole model with AdS/QCD holographic wave function. We use IP-Sat and IIM model in the calculation of the differential cross section of the dipole scattering off the proton. The prediction of AdS/QCD holographic wave function in BLFQ gives a good agreement to the experimental data.
We demonstrate another success of the AdS/QCD correspondence by showing that an AdS/QCD holographic light-front wavefunction for the $ρ$ meson generates predictions for the cross-sections of diffractive $ρ$ production that are in agreement with data collected at the HERA electron-proton collider.
We use an AdS/QCD holographic wavefunction to generate predictions for the rate of diffractive ρ-meson electroproduction that are in reasonable agreement with data collected at the HERA electron-proton collider.
We study thermalization of a strongly coupled theory holographically dual to a thin shell of null dust with non-zero angular momentum collapsing to Kerr-AdS. We calculate thermalization time for two point correlation functions. It happens that in the 3-dimensional case the thermalization time is just proportional to the distance between points where the correlator is evaluated. This is a very surprising and rather unexpected generalization of the same relation in the case of zero momentum.
The quark chemical potential is one of the fundamental parameters describing the Quark-Gluon Plasma produced by sufficiently energetic heavy-ion collisions. It is not large at the extremely high temperatures probed by the LHC, but it plays a key role in discussions of the beam energy scan programmes at the RHIC and other facilities. On the other hand, collisions at such energies typically (that is, in peripheral collisions) give rise to very high values of the angular momentum density. Here we explain that holographic estimates of the quark chemical potential of a rotating sample of plasma can…
Previously, two of the present authors obtained the decoupling limit and the corresponding throat geometry of non-supersymmetric D3 brane solution of type IIB string theory. In analogy with the supersymmetric case, it describes the gravity dual of a non-supersymmetric gauge theory with QCD-like properties such as running coupling and confinement (or mass gap) in certain range of its parameters. In this paper, we consider a `black' version of the non-supersymmetric D3 brane solution in the decoupling limit and use this gravity background to holographically compute the expectation value of a tim…
We study the physics with finite nuclear density in the framework of AdS/QCD with holographic baryon field included. Based on a mean field type approach, we introduce the nucleon density as a bi-fermion condensate of the lowest mode of the baryon field and calculate the density dependence of the chiral condensate and the nucleon mass. We observe that the chiral condensate as well as the mass of nucleon decrease with increasing nuclear density. We also consider the mass splitting of charged vector mesons in iso-spin asymmetric nuclear matter.
In this paper, we calculate analytically the baryonic density and susceptibilities, which are sensitive probes to the fermionic degrees of freedom, in a holographic model of QCD both in its hot QGP phase and in its cold dense phase. Interesting patterns due to strong coupling dynamics will be shown and valuable lessons for QCD will be discussed.
We show that AdS/QCD generates predictions for the rate of diffractive rho meson electroproduction that are in agreement with data collected at the HERA electron-proton collider.
We investigate the mass spectra of scalar and vector glueballs in the so-called bottom-up approach of the AdS/QCD correspondence. The holographic model of QCD includes a static dilaton background field. We study the constraints on the masses coming from perturbing the dilaton field and the geometry of the bulk.
Several physical quantities of light hadrons are examined by a new holographic model of QCD, which is the modified version of the one proposed by Erlich et al. defined on AdS${}_5$. In our model, AdS${}_5$ is deformed by a non-trivial bulk scalar, this is corresponding to adding the mass term of the adjoint fermions to the 4d SYM theory dual to the gravity on AdS${}_5$. We find that this deformation should be taken to be rather small, but its important effects are also seen.
The holographic approach to double diffractive Higgs production is presented in terms of exchanging the AdS graviton/Pomeron. The goal is to provide a simple framework for central exclusive production from a dual strong coupling perspective.
We explore the thermodynamics of AdS$_5$ black holes in two models: i) an improved holographic QCD model with a simple dilaton potential, and ii) the Stückelberg model in 5D. In the former case, by applying techniques of singular perturbation theory, we obtain a resummation of the naive expansion at high temperatures, providing a good fit to the lattice data for the trace anomaly. In the latter, we find a solution of the equations of motion by considering an expansion in the conformal dimension of the current associated to the gauge field.
We investigate the effect of massive graviton on the holographic thermalization process. Before doing this, we first find out the generalized Vaidya-AdS solutions in the de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive gravity by directly solving the gravitational equations. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these Vaidya-AdS solutions by using the Minsner-Sharp energy and unified first law, which also shows that the massive gravity is in a thermodynamic equilibrium state. Moreover, we adopt the two-point correlation function at equal time to explore the thermalization process in the dual field theor…
We compute for the first time the suppression of bottomonia in a strongly coupled QGP and compare the results to those from a weakly coupled QGP. Using imaginary time techniques we numerically determine the real and imaginary parts of the ground state binding energy of the bottomonia in one potential computed from AdS/CFT and another computed from pQCD. We then use these binding energies in a suppression model to determine the $Υ$(1S) nuclear modification factor in $\sqrt{s}_{NN}=2.76$ TeV Pb+Pb collisions. AdS/CFT significantly overpredicts the suppression compared to data, although the predi…
We report on the results of our recent research published in [1] that shows that AdS/QCD generates predictions for the rate of diffractive ρ-meson electroproduction that are in agreement with data collected at the HERA electron-proton collider [2,3]. Preliminary results of this research were presented in [4].
We use an anti-de Sitter/Quantum Chromodynamics (AdS/QCD) holographic light-front wavefunction for the $ρ$ and $ϕ$ mesons, in conjunction with the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) dipole cross-section whose parameters are fitted to the most recent 2015 high precision HERA data on inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS), in order to predict the cross-sections for diffractive $ρ$ and $ϕ$ electroproduction. Our results suggest that the holographic meson light-front wavefunction is able to give a simultaneous description of the $ρ$ and $ϕ$ production data provided we use a set of light quark masses …
We develop a relativistic Langevin dynamics under the background of strongly interacting quark-gluon fluid described by the (3+1)-dimensional hydrodynamics. The drag force acting on charm and bottom quarks is parametrized according to the formula obtained from the anti-de-Sitter space/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence. In this setup, we calculate the nuclear modification factor $R_{\rm{AA}}$ for the single-electrons from the charm and bottom quarks to extract the magnitude of the drag force from the PHENIX and STAR data. The $R_{\rm{AA}}$ for single-electrons with $p_{T}\geq 3$ G…
In this paper, we discuss the potential analysis of the holographic Schwinger effect in the bottom up AdS/QCD model. We study the effect of the magnetic field on the critical field and total potential in finite chemical potential case. By evaluating the critical electric field from the DBI action, one can observe that magnetic field decreases critical electric field Ec. From the results of potential analysis, we find the magnetic field reduces the potential barrier and favor the Schwinger effect which agrees with the results of the critical electric field. Moreover, the Schwinger effect is mor…
We predict the isospin asymmetry as well as the branching ratio for the decay $B -> K* γ$ within QCD factorization using new anti-de Sitter/Quantum Chromodynamics (AdS/QCD) holographic Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) for the K* meson. Our prediction for the branching ratio agrees with that obtained using standard QCD Sum Rules (SR) DAs and with experiment. More interestingly, our prediction for the isospin asymmetry using the AdS/QCD DA does not suffer from the end-point divergence encountered when using the corresponding SR DA. We predict an isospin asymmetry of 3.3 % in agreement with the most…
A first attempt to apply the AdS/QCD framework for a bottom-up approach to the evaluation of the effective cross section for double parton scattering in proton-proton collisions is presented. The main goal is the analytic evaluation of the dependence of the effective cross section on the longitudinal momenta of the involved partons, obtained within the holographic Soft-Wall model. If measured in high-energy processes at hadron colliders, this momentum dependence could open a new window on 2-parton correlations in a proton.
The relativistic diffusion process of heavy quarks is formulated on the basis of the relativistic Langevin equation in Itô discretization scheme. The drag force inside the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is parametrized according to the formula for the strongly coupled plasma obtained by the AdS/CFT correspondence. The diffusion dynamics of charm and bottom quarks in QGP is described by combining the Langevin simulation under the background matter described by the relativistic hydrodynamics. Theoretical calculations of the nuclear modification factor R_{AA} and the elliptic flow v_{2} for the single …
