标度不变动力学的概念在量子混沌系统的晚期已得到充分确立,正如谱形式因子(SFF)中斜坡的出现所证明的那样。基于前一篇Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett.
The notion of scale-invariant dynamics is well established at late times in quantum chaotic systems, as illustrated by the emergence of a ramp in the spectral form factor (SFF). Building on the results of the preceding Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 131, 060404 (2023)], we explore features of scale-invariant dynamics of survival probability and SFF at criticality, i.e., at eigenstate transitions from quantum chaos to localization. We show that, in contrast to the quantum chaotic regime, the quantum dynamics at criticality do not only exhibit scale invariance at late times, but also at much shorter times that we refer to as mid-time dynamics. Our results apply to both quadratic and interacting models. Specifically, we study Anderson models in dimensions three to five and power-law random banded matrices for the former, and the quantum sun model and the ultrametric model for the latter, as well as the Rosenzweig-Porter model.
We demonstrate a generalized notion of eigenstate thermalization for translation-invariant quasifree fermionic models: the vast majority of eigenstates satisfying a finite number of suitable constraints (e.g. fixed energy and particle number) have the property that their reduced density matrix on small subsystems approximates the corresponding generalized Gibbs ensemble. To this end, we generalize analytic results by Lai and Yang (Phys. Rev. B 91, 081110 (2015)) and illustrate the claim numerically by example of the Jordan-Wigner transform of the XX spin chain.
Much has been learned about universal properties of the eigenstate entanglement entropy for one-dimensional lattice models, which is described by a Hermitian Hamiltonian. While very less of it has been understood for non-Hermitian systems. In the present work we study a non-Hermitian, non-interacting model of fermions which is invariant under combined $PT$ transformation. Our models show a phase transition from $PT$ unbroken phase to broken phase as we tune the hermiticity breaking parameter. Entanglement entropy of such systems can be defined in two different ways, depending on whether we con…
We recently showed [Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 220602 (2018)] that the average bipartite entanglement entropy of all energy eigenstates of the quantum Ising chain exhibits a universal (for translationally invariant quadratic fermionic models) leading term that scales linearly with the subsystem's volume, while in the thermodynamic limit the first subleading correction does not vanish at the critical field (it only depends on the ratio $f$ between the volume of the subsystem and volume of the system) and vanishes otherwise. Here we show, analytically for bounds and numerically for averages, that the…
Much has been learned about universal properties of entanglement entropies in ground states of quantum many-body lattice systems. Here we unveil universal properties of the average bipartite entanglement entropy of eigenstates of the paradigmatic quantum Ising model in one dimension. The leading term exhibits a volume-law scaling that we argue is universal for translationally invariant quadratic models. The subleading term is constant at the critical field for the quantum phase transition and vanishes otherwise (in the thermodynamic limit), i.e., the critical field can be identified from suble…
With increasing subsystem size and energy, bipartite entanglement entropies of energy eigenstates cross over from the groundstate scaling to a volume law. In previous work, we pointed out that, when strong or weak eigenstate thermalization (ETH) applies, the entanglement entropies of all or, respectively, almost all eigenstates follow a single crossover function. The crossover functions are determined by the subsystem entropy of thermal states and assume universal scaling forms in quantum-critical regimes. This was demonstrated by field-theoretical arguments and the analysis of large systems o…
We study equilibrium as well as dynamical properties of the finite-size fully connected Ising model with a transverse field at the zero temperature. In relation to the equilibrium, we present approximate ground and first excited states that have large overlap -- except near the phase transition point -- with the exact energy eigenstates. For both the approximate and exact eigenstates, we compute the energy gap, concurrence, and geometric measure of quantum entanglement. We observe a good match in the case of energy gap and geometric entanglement between the approximate and exact eigenstates. W…

Recent work on the subject of isolated quantum thermalization has suggested that an individual energy eigenstate of a non-integrable quantum system may encode a significant amount of information about that system's Hamiltonian. We provide a theoretical argument, along with supporting numerics, that this information includes the critical behaviour of a system with a second-order, finite-temperature phase transition.
We review recent advances in understanding the universal scaling properties of non-equilibrium phase transitions in non-ergodic disordered systems. We discuss dynamical critical points (also known as eigenstate phase transitions) between different many-body localized (MBL) phases, and between MBL and thermal phases.
We construct the coordinate Bethe ansatz for all eigenstates of the open spin-$\frac12$ XXZ chain that fulfill the phantom roots criterion (PRC). Under the PRC, the Hilbert space splits into two invariant subspaces and there are two sets of homogeneous Bethe ansatz equations (BAE) to characterize the subspaces in each case. We propose two sets of vectors with chiral shocks to span the invariant subspaces and expand the corresponding eigenstates. All the vectors are factorized and have symmetrical and simple structures. Using several simple cases as examples, we present the core elements of our…
We explore the Fock-space structure of eigenstates across the many-body localisation (MBL) transition in a disordered, interacting quantum spin-1/2 chain. Eigenstate expectation values of spatially local observables, which distinguish an MBL phase from an ergodic one, can be represented in terms of eigenstate amplitudes on the Fock space. Motivated by this, we introduce and study spatial correlations on the Fock space. From these, a correlation length emerges, which is found to vary discontinuously across the MBL transition; and is intimately connected to the discontinuous jump in the multifra…
Generic rotationally invariant random matrix models satisfy a simple relation: the probability distribution of off-diagonal elements and the one of half the difference between any two diagonal elements coincide. In the spirit of the Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis (ETH), we test the hypothesis that the same relation holds in quantum systems that are non-localized, when one considers small energy differences. The relation provides a stringent test of ETH beyond the Gaussian ensemble. We apply it to a disordered spin chain, the SYK model and a Floquet system.
For quantum matter, eigenstate entanglement entropies obey an area law or log-area law at low energies and small subsystem sizes and cross over to volume laws for high energies and large subsystems. This transition is captured by crossover functions, which assume a universal scaling form in quantum critical regimes. We demonstrate this for the harmonic lattice model, which describes quantized lattice vibrations and is a regularization for free scalar field theories, modeling, e.g., spin-0 bosonic particles. In one dimension, the groundstate entanglement obeys a log-area law. For dimensions $d\…
We use exact diagonalization to study the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) in the quantum dimer model on the square and triangular lattices. Due to the nonergodicity of the local plaquette-flip dynamics, the Hilbert space, which consists of highly constrained close-packed dimer configurations, splits into sectors characterized by topological invariants. We show that this has important consequences for ETH: We find that ETH is clearly satisfied only when each topological sector is treated separately, and only for moderate ratios of the potential and kinetic terms in the Hamiltonian. B…
We derive a criterion under which splitting of all eigenstates of an open $\XYZ$ Hamiltonian with boundary fields into two invariant subspaces, spanned by chiral shock states, occurs. The splitting is governed by an integer number, which has the geometrical meaning of the maximal number of kinks in the basis states. We describe the generic structure of the respective Bethe vectors. We obtain explicit expressions for Bethe vectors, in the absence of Bethe roots, and those generated by one Bethe root, and investigate the \multiplet. We also describe in detail an elliptic analogue of the spin-hel…
We study the off-diagonal matrix elements of observables that break the translational symmetry of a spin-chain Hamiltonian, and as such connect energy eigenstates from different total quasimomentum sectors. We consider quantum-chaotic and interacting integrable points of the Hamiltonian, and focus on average energies at the center of the spectrum. In the quantum-chaotic model, we find that there is eigenstate thermalization; specifically, the matrix elements are Gaussian distributed with a variance that is a smooth function of $ω=E_α-E_β$ ({$E_α$} are the eigenenergies) and scales as $1/D$ ($D…
We study the structure of the eigenstates and the dynamics of a system that undergoes an excited state quantum phase transition (ESQPT). The analysis is performed for two-level pairing models characterized by a U(n+1) algebraic structure. They exhibit a second order phase transition between two limiting dynamical symmetries represented by the U(n) and SO(n+1) subalgebras. They are, or can be mapped onto, models of interacting bosons. We show that the eigenstates with energies very close to the ESQPT critical point, E_{ESQPT}, are highly localized in the U(n)-basis. Consequently, the dynamics o…
We demonstrate the existence of special phantom excitations for open and periodically closed integrable systems at the example of the $XXZ$ Heisenberg spin chain. The phantom excitations do not contribute to the energy of the Bethe state and correspond to special solutions to the Bethe Ansatz equations with infinite "phantom" Bethe roots. The phantom Bethe roots lead to degeneracies between different magnetization sectors in the periodic case and to the appearance of spin helix states (SHS), i.e. periodically modulated states of chiral nature in both open and closed systems. For the periodic c…
Motivated by the existence of exact many-body quantum scars in the AKLT chain, we explore the connection between Matrix Product State (MPS) wavefunctions and many-body quantum scarred Hamiltonians. We provide a method to systematically search for and construct parent Hamiltonians with towers of exact eigenstates composed of quasiparticles on top of an MPS wavefunction. These exact eigenstates have low entanglement in spite of being in the middle of the spectrum, thus violating the strong Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis (ETH). Using our approach, we recover the AKLT chain starting from the…
The Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis (ETH) has played a major role in understanding thermodynamic phenomena in closed quantum systems. However, its connection to the timescale of thermalization for open system dynamics has remained elusive. This paper establishes a rigorous link between ETH and fast thermalization to the global Gibbs state. Specifically, we demonstrate fast thermalization for a system coupled weakly to a bath of quasi-free Fermions that we refresh periodically. To describe the joint evolution, we derive a finite-time version of Davies' generator with explicit error bounds …

Typical eigenstates of quantum systems, whose classical limit is chaotic, are well approximated as random states. Corresponding eigenvalue spectra is modeled through appropriate ensemble of random matrix theory. However, a small subset of states violate this principle and display eigenstate localization, a counter-intuitive feature known to arise due to purely quantum or semiclassical effects. In the spectrum of chaotic systems, the localized and random states interact with one another and modifies the spectral statistics. In this work, a $3 \times 3$ random matrix model is used to obtain exac…
We consider density matrices which are sums of projectors on states spanning irreducible representations of the permutation group of L sites (eigenstates of permutational invariant quantum system with L sites) and construct the reduced density matrix (RDM) for blocks of size n<L by tracing out L-n sites, viewed as environment. Explicit analytic expressions of the elements of the RDM are given in the natural basis and the corresponding spectrum is derived. Results apply to all quantum many-body systems with permutational symmetry for which the mean field theory is exact.
It has previously been suggested that small subsystems of closed quantum systems thermalize under some assumptions; however, this has been rigorously shown so far only for systems with very weak interaction between subsystems. In this work, we give rigorous analytic results on thermalization for translation-invariant quantum lattice systems with finite-range interaction of arbitrary strength, in all cases where there is a unique equilibrium state at the corresponding temperature. We clarify the physical picture by showing that subsystems relax towards the reduction of the global Gibbs state, n…
The boundary of the lemon billiards is defined by the intersection of two circles of equal unit radius with the distance 2B between their centers, as introduced by Heller and Tomsovic in Phys. Today 46 38 (1993). We study two classical and quantum lemon billiards, for the cases B = 0.1953, 0.083, which are mixed-type billiards with complex structure of phase space, without significant stickiness regions. A preliminary study of their spectra was published recently (Physics 1 1-14 (2021)). We calculate a great number $10^6$ of consecutive eigenstates and their Poincaré-Husimi (PH) functions, and…
