Pose recognition deals with designing algorithms to locate human body joints in a 2D/3D space and run inference on the estimated joint locations for predicting the poses. Yoga poses consist of some very complex postures. It imposes various challenges on the computer vision algorithms like occlusion, inter-class similarity, intra-class variability, viewpoint complexity, etc. This paper presents YPose, an efficient deep convolutional neural network (CNN) model to recognize yoga asanas from RGB images. The proposed model consists of four steps as follows: (a) first, the region of interest (ROI) is segmented using segmentation based approaches to extract the ROI from the original images; (b) second, these refined images are passed to a CNN architecture based on the backbone of EfficientNets for feature extraction; (c) third, dense refinement blocks, adapted from the architecture of densely connected networks are added to learn more diversified features; and (d) fourth, global average pooling and fully connected layers are applied for the classification of the multi-level hierarchy of the yoga poses. The proposed model has been tested on the Yoga-82 dataset. It is a publicly available benchmark dataset for yoga pose recognition. Experimental results show that the proposed model achieves the state-of-the-art on this dataset. The proposed model obtained an accuracy of 93.28%, which is an improvement over the earlier state-of-the-art (79.35%) with a margin of approximately 13.9%. The code will be made publicly available.

Human pose estimation is a well-known problem in computer vision to locate joint positions. Existing datasets for the learning of poses are observed to be not challenging enough in terms of pose diversity, object occlusion, and viewpoints. This makes the pose annotation process relatively simple and restricts the application of the models that have been trained on them. To handle more variety in human poses, we propose the concept of fine-grained hierarchical pose classification, in which we formulate the pose estimation as a classification task, and propose a dataset, Yoga-82, for large-scale…

We address the computational problem of novel human pose synthesis. Given an image of a person and a desired pose, we produce a depiction of that person in that pose, retaining the appearance of both the person and background. We present a modular generative neural network that synthesizes unseen poses using training pairs of images and poses taken from human action videos. Our network separates a scene into different body part and background layers, moves body parts to new locations and refines their appearances, and composites the new foreground with a hole-filled background. These subtasks,…

3D human pose estimation is a difficult task, due to challenges such as occluded body parts and ambiguous poses. Graph convolutional networks encode the structural information of the human skeleton in the form of an adjacency matrix, which is beneficial for better pose prediction. We propose one such graph convolutional network named PoseGraphNet for 3D human pose regression from 2D poses. Our network uses an adaptive adjacency matrix and kernels specific to neighbor groups. We evaluate our model on the Human3.6M dataset which is a standard dataset for 3D pose estimation. Our model's performan…
While there has been a success in 2D human pose estimation with convolutional neural networks (CNNs), 3D human pose estimation has not been thoroughly studied. In this paper, we tackle the 3D human pose estimation task with end-to-end learning using CNNs. Relative 3D positions between one joint and the other joints are learned via CNNs. The proposed method improves the performance of CNN with two novel ideas. First, we added 2D pose information to estimate a 3D pose from an image by concatenating 2D pose estimation result with the features from an image. Second, we have found that more accurat…

3D pose estimation is a key component of many important computer vision tasks such as autonomous navigation and 3D scene understanding. Most state-of-the-art approaches to 3D pose estimation solve this problem as a pose-classification problem in which the pose space is discretized into bins and a CNN classifier is used to predict a pose bin. We argue that the 3D pose space is continuous and propose to solve the pose estimation problem in a CNN regression framework with a suitable representation, data augmentation and loss function that captures the geometry of the pose space. Experiments on PA…
This paper proposes a new hybrid architecture that consists of a deep Convolutional Network and a Markov Random Field. We show how this architecture is successfully applied to the challenging problem of articulated human pose estimation in monocular images. The architecture can exploit structural domain constraints such as geometric relationships between body joint locations. We show that joint training of these two model paradigms improves performance and allows us to significantly outperform existing state-of-the-art techniques.

For human pose estimation in monocular images, joint occlusions and overlapping upon human bodies often result in deviated pose predictions. Under these circumstances, biologically implausible pose predictions may be produced. In contrast, human vision is able to predict poses by exploiting geometric constraints of joint inter-connectivity. To address the problem by incorporating priors about the structure of human bodies, we propose a novel structure-aware convolutional network to implicitly take such priors into account during training of the deep network. Explicit learning of such constrain…

With the advances in capturing 2D or 3D skeleton data, skeleton-based action recognition has received an increasing interest over the last years. As skeleton data is commonly represented by graphs, graph convolutional networks have been proposed for this task. While current graph convolutional networks accurately recognize actions, they are too expensive for robotics applications where limited computational resources are available. In this paper, we therefore propose a highly efficient graph convolutional network that addresses the limitations of previous works. This is achieved by a parallel …
Most of the recent deep learning-based 3D human pose and mesh estimation methods regress the pose and shape parameters of human mesh models, such as SMPL and MANO, from an input image. The first weakness of these methods is an appearance domain gap problem, due to different image appearance between train data from controlled environments, such as a laboratory, and test data from in-the-wild environments. The second weakness is that the estimation of the pose parameters is quite challenging owing to the representation issues of 3D rotations. To overcome the above weaknesses, we propose Pose2Mes…
Prediction with high accuracy is essential for various applications such as autonomous driving. Existing prediction models are easily prone to errors in real-world settings where observations (e.g. human poses and locations) are often noisy. To address this problem, we introduce GPRAR, a graph convolutional network based pose reconstruction and action recognition for human trajectory prediction. The key idea of GPRAR is to generate robust features: human poses and actions, under noisy scenarios. To this end, we design GPRAR using two novel sub-networks: PRAR (Pose Reconstruction and Action Rec…

In this paper, we propose a fully convolutional network for 3D human pose estimation from monocular images. We use limb orientations as a new way to represent 3D poses and bind the orientation together with the bounding box of each limb region to better associate images and predictions. The 3D orientations are modeled jointly with 2D keypoint detections. Without additional constraints, this simple method can achieve good results on several large-scale benchmarks. Further experiments show that our method can generalize well to novel scenes and is robust to inaccurate bounding boxes.

Despite the recent progress, 3D multi-person pose estimation from monocular videos is still challenging due to the commonly encountered problem of missing information caused by occlusion, partially out-of-frame target persons, and inaccurate person detection. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel framework integrating graph convolutional networks (GCNs) and temporal convolutional networks (TCNs) to robustly estimate camera-centric multi-person 3D poses that do not require camera parameters. In particular, we introduce a human-joint GCN, which, unlike the existing GCN, is based on a direct…

Recent works try to integrate differentiable RANSAC algorithms to achieve an end-to-end 6D pose estimation. However, most of them hardly consider the geometric features in 3D space, and ignore the topology cues when performing differentiable RANSAC algorithms. To this end, we proposed a Depth-Guided Edge Convolutional Network (DGECN) for 6D pose estimation task. We h…

Second, we develop a dynamic-weighting scheme to automatically assign the loss weight to each side task, which is a crucial problem in MTL. Third, we propose a pose-directed multi-task CNN by grouping different poses to learn pose-specifi…

Our deep architecture explicitly leverages the human part cues to alleviate the pose variations and learn robust feature representa…

To address this issue, we propose a novel spectral GCN using the Möbius transformation (MöbiusGCN). In particular, this allows us to directly and explicitly encode the transformation between joints, resulting in a significantly more c…
