We propose a new approach to discriminate among concurring cosmological models by adopting classes of cosmological constraints that can maximize the use of the observable space and can allow to eliminate the redshift from the analysis
Cosmology constraints serve as a crucial criterion in discriminating cosmological models. The traditional combined method to constrain the cosmological parameters designates the corresponding theoretical value and observational data as functions of redshift, however, sometimes the redshift cannot be measured directly, or the measurement error is large, or the definition of redshift is controversial. In this paper, we propose a novel joint method to constrain parameters that eliminates the redshift $z$ and makes full use of the multiple observables $\left\lbrace \mathcal{F}_{1,\mathrm{obs}},\mathcal{F}_{2,\mathrm{obs}},\cdots,\mathcal{F}_{M,\mathrm{obs}}\right\rbrace$ spanning in $M$-dimensional joint observables space. Considering the generality of the mathematical form of the cosmological models and the guidance from low to high dimensions, we firstly validate our method in a three-dimensional joint observables space spanned by $H(z)$, $fσ_{8}(z)$ and $D_{A}(z)$, where the three coordinates can be considered redshift-free measurements of the same celestial body (or shared-redshift data reconstructed model independently). Our results are consistent with the traditional combined method but with lower errors, yielding $H_0=68.7\pm0.1\mathrm{~km} \mathrm{~s}^{-1}\mathrm{~Mpc}^{-1}$, $Ω_{m0}=0.289\pm0.003$, $σ_{8}=0.82\pm0.01$ and showing alleviated parametric degeneracies to some extent. In principle, our joint constraint method allows an extended form keeping the redshift information as an independent coordinate and can also be readily degraded to the form of a traditional combined method to constrain parameters.
Combining Supernovae, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations and Redshift-Space Distortions data from the next generation of (Stage-IV) cosmological surveys, we aim to reconstruct the expansion history up to large redshifts using forward-modeling of $f_{\mathrm DE}(z) = ρ_\mathrm{DE}(z)/ρ_\mathrm{DE,0}$ with Gaussian processes (GP). In order to reconstruct cosmological quantities at high redshifts where few or no data are available, we adopt a new approach to GP which enforces the following minimal assumptions: a) Our cosmology corresponds to a flat Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) universe; b)…
Combining different observational probes, such as galaxy clustering and weak lensing, is a promising technique for unveiling the physics of the Universe with upcoming dark energy experiments. Whilst this strategy significantly improves parameter constraints, decreasing the degeneracies of individual analyses and controlling the systematics, processing data from tens of millions of galaxies is not a trivial task. In this work we derive and test a new estimator for joint clustering and lensing data analysis, maximising the scientific return and decreasing the computational cost. Our estimator co…
We present a method of calibrating the properties of photometric redshift bins as part of a larger Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analysis for the inference of cosmological parameters. The redshift bins are characterised by their mean and variance, which are varied as free parameters and marginalised over when obtaining the cosmological parameters. We demonstrate that the likelihood function for cross-correlations in an angular power spectrum framework tightly constrains the properties of bins such that they may be well determined, reducing their influence on cosmological parameters and avoid…
We use three different data sets, specifically $H(z)$ measurements from cosmic chronometers, the HII-galaxy Hubble diagram, and reconstructed quasar-core angular-size measurements, to perform a joint analysis of three flat cosmological models: the $R_{\rm h}=ct$ Universe, $Λ$CDM, and $w$CDM. For $R_{\rm h}=ct$, the 1$σ$ best-fit value of the Hubble constant $H_0$ is $62.336\pm1.464$ $\mathrm{km \ s^{-1} \ Mpc^{-1}}$, which matches previous measurements ($\sim 63$ $\mathrm{km \ s^{-1} \ Mpc^{-1}}$) based on best fits to individual data sets. For $Λ$CDM, our inferred value of the Hubble constant…
We present a new model for the cross-covariance between galaxy redshift-space distortions and peculiar velocities. We combine this with the auto-covariance models of both probes in a fully self-consistent, maximum-likelihood method, allowing us to extract enhanced cosmological parameter constraints. When applying our method to the 6-degree Field Galaxy Survey (6dFGS), our constraint on the growth rate of structure is $fσ_8 = 0.384 \pm 0.052 \rm{(stat)} \pm 0.061 \rm{(sys)}$ and our constraint for the redshift-space distortion parameter is $β= 0.289^{+0.044}_{-0.043} \rm{(stat)} \pm 0.049 \rm{(…
Context: Fast radio bursts are transient radio pulses of extragalactic origin. Their dispersion measure is indicative of the baryon content in the ionized intergalactic medium between the source and the observer. However, inference using unlocalized fast radio bursts is degenerate to the distribution of redshifts of host galaxies. Method: We perform a joint inference of the intergalactic baryon content and the fast radio burst redshift distribution with the use of Bayesian statistics by comparing the likelihood of different models to reproduce the observed statistics in order to infer the most…

We search for a variation of the electromagnetic fine structure constant ($α\equiv e^2/\hbar c$) using a sample of 58 SZ selected clusters in the redshift range ($0.2<z<1.5$) detected by the South Pole Telescope, along with X-ray measurements using the XMM-Newton observatory. We use the ratio of the integrated SZ Compto-ionization to its X-ray counterpart as our observable for this search. We first obtain a model-independent constraint on $α$ of about 0.7%, using the fact that the aforementioned ratio is constant as a function of redshift. We then look for a logarithmic dependence of $α$ as a …
We perform a joint determination of the distance-redshift relation and cosmic expansion rate at redshifts z = 0.44, 0.6 and 0.73 by combining measurements of the baryon acoustic peak and Alcock-Paczynski distortion from galaxy clustering in the WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey, using a large ensemble of mock catalogues to calculate the covariance between the measurements. We find that D_A(z) = (1205 +/- 114, 1380 +/- 95, 1534 +/- 107) Mpc and H(z) = (82.6 +/- 7.8, 87.9 +/- 6.1, 97.3 +/- 7.0) km/s/Mpc at these three redshifts. Further combining our results with other baryon acoustic oscillation and d…
We present the first joint inference of standard sirens and gravitational wave weak lensing by filtering of the same dataset. We imagine a post-LISA scenario emerging around the late 2030s when LISA will have accumulated a number of detections at high redshift; LIGO-VIRGO will have finished observing at low redshift, and Einstein Telescope will have started making new observations out to redshifts possibly overlapping with LISA. Euclid and other cosmological probes will have provided constraints at percent level by then, but mostly exhausted their ability to improve any further. We derive fore…
We develop a novel approach in exploring the joint dependence of halo bias on multiple halo properties using Gaussian process regression. Using a $Λ$CDM $N$-body simulation, we carry out a comprehensive study of the joint bias dependence on halo structure, formation history and environment. We show that the bias is a multivariate function of halo properties that falls into three regimes. For massive haloes, halo mass explains the majority of bias variation. For early-forming haloes, bias depends sensitively on the recent mass accretion history. For low-mass and late-forming haloes, bias depend…
Aims. Using the VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey (VIPERS) we aim to jointly estimate the key parameters that describe the galaxy density field and its spatial correlations in redshift space. Methods. We use the Bayesian formalism to jointly reconstruct the redshift-space galaxy density field, power spectrum, galaxy bias and galaxy luminosity function given the observations and survey selection function. The high-dimensional posterior distribution is explored using the Wiener filter within a Gibbs sampler. We validate the analysis using simulated catalogues and apply it to VIPERS data…
We perform for the first time a joint analysis of the monopole and quadrupoles for power spectrum, bispectrum and integrated trispectrum (i-trispectrum) from the redshift space matter field in N-body simulations. With a full Markov Chain Monte Carlo exploration of the posterior distribution, we quantify the constraints on cosmological parameters for an object density of $n_\mathrm{p}=5\times10^{-4} (h\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1})^{3}$, redshift $z=0.5$, and a covariance corresponding to a survey volume of $V_\mathrm{survey} =25\,(h^{-1}\mathrm{Gpc})^3$, a set up which is representative of forthcoming g…
Recent works have shown that small shifts in redshift -- gravitational redshift or systematic errors -- could potentially cause a significant bias in the estimation of cosmological parameters. I aim to verify whether a theoretical correction on redshift is sufficient to ease the tension between the estimates of cosmological parameters from SNe 1a dataset and Planck 2015 results. A free parameter for redshift shift($Δz$) is implemented in the Maximum Likelihood Estimator. Redshift error was estimated from the Joint Light-curve Analysis(JLA) dataset and results from the Planck 2015 survey. The e…
We explore the possibility of setting stringent constraints to the Dark Energy equation of state using alternative cosmic tracers like: (a) the Hubble relation using HII galaxies, which can be observed at much higher redshifts (z~3.5) than those currently traced by SNIa samples, and (b) the large-scale structure using the clustering of X-ray selected AGN,which have a redshift distribution peaking at z~1. We use extensive Monte-Carlo simulations to define the optimal strategy for the recovery of the dark-energy equation of state using the high redshift (z~2) Hubble relation, but accounting also…
In the context of tomographic cosmic shear surveys, there exists a nulling transformation of weak lensing observations (also called BNT transform) that allows us to simplify the correlation structure of tomographic cosmic shear observations, as well as to build observables that depend only on a localised range of redshifts and thus independent from the low-redshift/small-scale modes. This procedure renders possible accurate, and from-first-principles, predictions of the convergence and aperture mass one-point distributions (PDF). We here explore other consequences of this transformation on the…
Using the extended halo-based group finder developed by Yang et al. (2021), which is able to deal with galaxies via spectroscopic and photometric redshifts simultaneously, we construct galaxy group and candidate protocluster catalogs in a wide redshift range ($0 < z < 6$) from the joint CFHT Large Area $U$-band Deep Survey (CLAUDS) and Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) deep data set. Based on a selection of 5,607,052 galaxies with $i$-band magnitude $m_{i} < 26$ and a sky coverage of $34.41\ {\rm deg}^2$, we identify a total of 2,232,134 groups, within which 402,947 groups h…
We present a first joint analysis of the power spectra of the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich (tSZ) effect measured by the Planck and the number density fluctuations of galaxies in the 2MASS redshift survey (2MRS) catalog, including their cross-correlation. Combining these measurements with the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data and CMB lensing of Planck assuming a flat $Λ$CDM model, we constrain the mass bias parameter as $B = 1.54 \pm 0.098\;(1σ)$ [$(1-b) = 0.649 \pm 0.041$, where $(1-b) \equiv B^{-1}$], i.e., the Planck cluster mass should be $35\%$ lower than the true mass. The mass bias det…
We use updated Hubble parameter and baryon acoustic oscillation data, as well as other lower-redshift Type Ia supernova, Mg II reverberation-measured quasar, quasar angular size, H II starburst galaxy, and Amati-correlated gamma-ray burst data, to jointly constrain cosmological parameters in six cosmological models. The joint analysis provides model-independent determinations of the Hubble constant, $H_0=69.7\pm1.2$ $\rm{km \ s^{-1} \ Mpc^{-1}}$, and the current non-relativistic matter density parameter, $Ω_{m0}=0.295\pm0.017$. These error bars are factors of 2.2 and 2.3 larger than the corres…
It is well known that flat FRW metric is a special case of Bianchi type I spacetime. In this paper, we use 38 Hubble parameter, $H(z)$, measurements at intermediate redshifts $0.07\leq z\leq 2.36$ and its joint combination with the latest \textgravedbl joint light curves\textacutedbl (JLA) sample, comprised of 740 type Ia supernovae in the redshift range $z ε[0.01, 1.30]$ to constrain the parameters of Bianchi type I dark energy model. We also use the same datasets to constrain flat $Λ$CDM Model. In both cases, we specifically address the expansion rate $H_{0}$ as well as the transition redshi…
Calibrating the photometric redshifts of >10^9 galaxies for upcoming weak lensing cosmology experiments is a major challenge for the astrophysics community. The path to obtaining the required spectroscopic redshifts for training and calibration is daunting, given the anticipated depths of the surveys and the difficulty in obtaining secure redshifts for some faint galaxy populations. Here we present an analysis of the problem based on the self-organizing map, a method of mapping the distribution of data in a high-dimensional space and projecting it onto a lower-dimensional representation. We ap…
We use the ellipsoidal collapse approximation to investigate the nonlinear redshift space evolution of the density field with primordial non-Gaussianity of the local f_{nl}-type. We utilize the joint distribution of eigenvalues of the initial non-Gaussian shear field and evaluate the evolved redshift space probability distribution function (PDF). It is shown that, similar to the real space analysis, the underdense tail of the nonlinear redshift space PDF differs significantly from that for Gaussian initial conditions. We also derive the lowest order correction of the Kaiser's formulain the pre…

In this paper, we use the joint measurement of geometry and growth rate from matter density perturbations to constrain the holographic dark energy model. The geometry measurement includes type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) Union2.1, full information of cosmic microwave background (CMB) from WMAP-7yr and baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO). For the growth rate of matter density perturbations, the results $f(z)σ_8(z)$ measured from the redshift-space distortion (RSD) in the galaxy power spectrum are employed. Via the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, we try to constrain the model parameters space. The join…
We perform a tomographic analysis of structure growth and expansion rate from the anisotropic galaxy clustering of the combined sample of Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release 12, which covers the redshift range of $0.2<z<0.75$. In order to extract the redshift information of anisotropic galaxy clustering, we analyse this data set in nine overlapping redshift slices in configuration space and perform the joint constraints on the parameters $(D_V, F_{\mathrm{AP}}, fσ_8)$ using the correlation function multipoles. The analysis pipeline is validated using the MultiDark-Patch…
Measurement of peculiar velocities by combining redshifts and distance indicators is a powerful way to measure the growth rate of cosmic structure and test theories of gravity at low redshift. Here we constrain the growth rate of structure by comparing observed Fundamental Plane peculiar velocities for 15894 galaxies from the 6dF Galaxy Survey (6dFGS) and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) with predicted velocities and densities from the 2M$++$ redshift survey. We measure the velocity scale parameter $β\equiv {Ω_m^γ}/b = 0.372^{+0.034}_{-0.050}$ and $0.314^{+0.031}_{-0.047}$ for 6dFGS and SDSS re…
We use lookback time versus redshift data from galaxy clusters (Capozziello et al., 2004) and passively evolving galaxies (Simon et al., 2005), and apply a bayesian prior on the total age of the Universe based on WMAP measurements, to constrain dark energy cosmological model parameters. Current lookback time data provide interesting and moderately restrictive constraints on cosmological parameters. When used jointly with current baryon acoustic peak and Type Ia supernovae apparent magnitude versus redshift data, lookback time data tighten the constraints on parameters and favor slightly smalle…
We use higher-redshift gamma-ray burst (GRB), HII starburst galaxy (HIIG), and quasar angular size (QSO-AS) measurements to constrain six spatially flat and non-flat cosmological models. These three sets of cosmological constraints are mutually consistent. Cosmological constraints from a joint analysis of these data sets are largely consistent with currently-accelerating cosmological expansion as well as with cosmological constraints derived from a combined analysis of Hubble parameter ($H(z)$) and baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO, with Planck-determined baryonic matter density) measurements. …
Cosmological measurements of both the expansion history and growth history have matured, and the two together provide an important test of general relativity. We consider their joint evolutionary track, showing that this has advantages in distinguishing cosmologies relative to considering them individually or at isolated redshifts. In particular, the joint comparison relaxes the shape degeneracy that makes $fσ_8(z)$ curves difficult to separate from the overall growth amplitude. The conjoined method further helps visualization of which combinations of redshift ranges provide the clearest discr…
In the context of next-generation spectroscopic galaxy surveys, new statistics of the distribution of matter are currently being developed. Among these, we investigated the angular redshift fluctuations (ARF), which probe the information contained in the projected redshift distribution of galaxies. Relying on the Fisher formalism, we show how ARF will provide complementary cosmological information compared to traditional angular galaxy clustering. We tested both the standard $\mathrm{ΛCDM}$ model and the $\mathrm{wCDM}$ extension. We find that the cosmological and galaxy bias parameters expres…
We demonstrate that highly accurate joint redshift-stellar mass probability distribution functions (PDFs) can be obtained using the Random Forest (RF) machine learning (ML) algorithm, even with few photometric bands available. As an example, we use the Dark Energy Survey (DES), combined with the COSMOS2015 catalogue for redshifts and stellar masses. We build two ML models: one containing deep photometry in the $griz$ bands, and the second reflecting the photometric scatter present in the main DES survey, with carefully constructed representative training data in each case. We validate our join…
