Deep network-based image and video Compressive Sensing(CS) has attracted increasing attentions in recent years. However, in the existing deep network-based CS methods, a simple stacked convolutional network is usually adopted, which not only weakens the perception of rich contextual prior knowledge, but also limits the exploration of the correlations between temporal video frames. In this paper, we propose a novel Hierarchical InTeractive Video CS Reconstruction Network(HIT-VCSNet), which can cooperatively exploit the deep priors in both spatial and temporal domains to improve the reconstruction quality. Specifically, in the spatial domain, a novel hierarchical structure is designed, which can hierarchically extract deep features from keyframes and non-keyframes. In the temporal domain, a novel hierarchical interaction mechanism is proposed, which can cooperatively learn the correlations among different frames in the multiscale space. Extensive experiments manifest that the proposed HIT-VCSNet outperforms the existing state-of-the-art video and image CS methods in a large margin.
We present OpenICS, an image compressive sensing toolbox that includes multiple image compressive sensing and reconstruction algorithms proposed in the past decade. Due to the lack of standardization in the implementation and evaluation of the proposed algorithms, the application of image compressive sensing in the real-world is limited. We believe this toolbox is the first framework that provides a unified and standardized implementation of multiple image compressive sensing algorithms. In addition, we also conduct a benchmarking study on the methods included in this framework from two aspect…

In the proposed way, images are measured and initialized linearly. Two sampling masks are introduced to flexibly control the subsampling ratios used in sampling and re…
A Bayesian compressive sensing framework is developed for video reconstruction based on the color coded aperture compressive temporal imaging (CACTI) system. By exploiting the three dimension (3D) tree structure of the wavelet and Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT) coefficients, a Bayesian compressive sensing inversion algorithm is derived to reconstruct (up to 22) color video frames from a single monochromatic compressive measurement. Both simulated and real datasets are adopted to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Therefore, a method of iterative compensation recovery for image compressive sensing (ICRICS) is proposed by introducing closed-loop framework into traditional compresses sensing systems. The proposed method depends on any existing approaches and upgrades their reconstruction performance by adding negative feedback structure. Theory analysis on negative feedba…
Compressive sensing (CS) is an emerging sampling technology that enables reconstructing signals from a subset of measurements and even corrupted measurements. Deep learning-based compressive sensing (DCS) has improved CS performance while maintaining a fast reconstruction but requires a training network for each measurement rate. Also, concerning the transmission scheme of measurement lost, DCS cannot recover the original signal. Thereby, it fails to maintain the error-resilient property. In this work, we proposed a robust deep reconstruction network to preserve the error-resilient property un…
To simplify the parameter of the deep learning network, a cascaded compressive sensing model "CSNet" is implemented for image classification. Firstly, we use cascaded compressive sensing network to learn feature from the data. Secondly, CSNet generates the feature by binary hashing and block-wise histograms. Finally, a linear SVM classifier is used to classify these features. The experiments on the MNIST dataset indicate that higher classification accuracy can be obtained by this algorithm.

We propose a new method, {\it binary fused compressive sensing} (BFCS), to recover sparse piece-wise smooth signals from 1-bit compressive measurements. The proposed algorithm is a modification of the previous {\it binary iterative hard thresholding} (BIHT) algorithm, where, in addition to the sparsity constraint, the total-variation of the recovered signal is upper constrained. As in BIHT, the data term of the objective function is an one-sided $\ell_1$ (or $\ell_2$) norm. Experiments on the recovery of sparse piece-wise smooth signals show that the proposed algorithm is able to take advantag…
In this paper, we propose a novel encoder-decoder neural network model referred to as DeepBinaryMask for video compressive sensing. The proposed framework is an end-to-end model where the sensing matrix is trained along with the video reconstruction. The encoder learns the binary elements of the sensing matrix and the decoder is trained to recover the unknown video sequence. The reconstruction performance is fou…

A two-step adaptive sensing paradigm is developed, where online sensing is applied to detect the signal class in the first step, followed by a reconstruction step adapted to the detected class and the observed samples. The approach is based on information theory, here …
We consider the problem of reconstructing an image from compressive measurements using a multi-resolution grid. In this context, the reconstructed image is divided into multiple regions, each one with a different resolution. This problem arises in situations where the image to reconstruct contains a certain region of interest (RoI) that is more important than the rest. Through a theoretical analysis and simulation experiments we show that the multi-resolution reconstruction provides a higher quality of the RoI compared to the traditional single-resolution approach.
Lensless imaging is an important and challenging problem. One notable solution to lensless imaging is a single pixel camera which benefits from ideas central to compressive sampling. However, traditional single pixel cameras require many illumination patterns which result in a long acquisition process. Here we present a method for lensless imaging based on compressive ultrafast sensing. Each sensor acquisition is encoded with a different illumination pattern and produces a time series where time is a function of the photon's origin in the scene. Currently available hardware with picosecond tim…

The Bayesian compressive sensing approach relaxes the limitations of the conventional approach using the probabilistic reasoning and allows to include different prior knowledge about the signal structure. This paper presents two Bayesian compressive sensing methods for autonomous object detection in a video sequence from …

Although block compressive sensing (BCS) makes it tractable to sense large-sized images and video, its recovery performance has yet to be significantly improved because its recovered images or video usually suffer from blurred edges, loss of details, and high-frequency oscillatory artifacts, especially at a low subrate. This paper addresses these problems by designing a modified total variation technique that employs multi-block gradient processing, a denoised Lagrangian multiplier, and patch-based sparse representation. In the case of video, the proposed recovery method is able to exploit bot…

Fall detection holds immense importance in the field of healthcare, where timely detection allows for instant medical assistance. In this context, we propose a 3D ConvNet architecture which consists of 3D Inception modules for fall detection. The proposed architecture is a custom version of Inflated 3D (I3D) architecture, that takes compressed measurements of video sequence as spatio-temporal input, obtained from compressive sensing framework, rather than video sequence as input, as in the case of I3D convolutional neural network. This is adopted since privacy raises a huge concern for patient…

Compressed sensing enables the reconstruction of high-resolution signals from under-sampled data. While compressive methods simplify data acquisition, they require the solution of difficult recovery problems to make use of the resulting measurements. This article presents a new sensing framework that combines the advantages of both conventional and compressive sensing. Using the proposed \stone transform, measurements can be reconstructed instantly at Nyquist rates at any power-of-two resolution. The same data can then be "enhanced" to higher resolutions using compressive methods that leverage…
A new framework of compressive sensing (CS), namely statistical compressive sensing (SCS), that aims at efficiently sampling a collection of signals that follow a statistical distribution and achieving accurate reconstruction on average, is introduced. For signals following a Gaussian distribution, with Gaussian or Bernoulli sensing matrices of O(k) measurements, considerably smaller than the O(k log(N/k)) required by conventional CS, where N is the signal dimension, and with an optimal decoder implemented with linear filtering, significantly faster than the pursuit decoders applied in convent…
Reducing the number of pixels in video signals while maintaining quality needed for recovering the trace of an object using Compressive Sensing is main subject of this work. Quality of frames, from video that contains moving object, are gradually reduced by keeping different number of pixels in each iteration, going from 45% all the way to 1%. Using algorithm for tracing object, results were satisfactory and showed mere changes in trajectory graphs, obtained from original and reconstructed videos.

Total variation has proved its effectiveness in solving inverse problems for compressive sensing. Besides, the nonlocal means filter used as regularization preserves texture better for recovered images, but it is quite complex to implement. In this paper, based on existence of both noise and image information in the Lagrangian multiplier, we propose a simple method in term of implementation called nonlocal Lagrangian multiplier (NLLM) in order to reduce noise and boost useful image information. Experimental results show that the proposed NLLM is superior both in subjective and objective qualit…

We are inspired by a state-of-the-art model for video compressive sensing that utilizes a linear dynamical system (LDS) to model the motion manifold. Given compressive measurements, the state sequence of an LDS can be first estimated using system identification techniques. We then reconstruct the observation matrix using a joint structured sparsity assumption. In particular, we minimize an objective function with a mixture of wavelet sparsi…

We apply reinforcement learning to video compressive sensing to adapt the compression ratio. Specifically, video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI), which captures high-speed video using a low-speed camera is considered in this work, in which multiple (B) video frames can be reconstructed from a snapshot measurement. One research gap in previous studies is how to adapt B in the video SCI system for different scenes. In this paper, we fill this gap utilizing reinforcement learning (RL). An RL model, as well as various convolutional neural networks for reconstruction, are learned to achieve adap…
A limitation of many compressive imaging architectures lies in the sequential nature of the sensing process, which leads to long sensing times. In this paper we present a novel architecture that uses fewer detectors than the number of reconstructed pixels and is able to acquire the image in a single acquisition. This paves the way for the development of video architectures that acquire several frames per second. We specifically address the diffraction problem, showing that deconvolution normally used to recover diffraction blur can be replaced by convolution of the sensing matrix, and how meas…

We address the problem of reconstructing and analyzing surveillance videos using compressive sensing. We develop a new method that performs video reconstruction by low rank and sparse decomposition adaptively. Background subtraction becomes part of the reconstruction. In our method, a background model is used in which the background is learned adaptively as the compressive measurements are processed. The adaptive method has low latency, and is more robust than previous methods. We will present experimental results to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.
This paper introduces the concept of adaptive temporal compressive sensing (CS) for video. We propose a CS algorithm to adapt the compression ratio based on the scene's temporal complexity, computed from the compressed data, without compromising the quality of the reconstructed video. The temporal adaptivity is manifested by manipulating the integration time of the camera, opening the possibility to real-time implementation. The proposed algorithm is a generalized temporal CS approach that can be incorporated with a diverse set of existing hardware systems.

Compressive sensing (CS) has triggered enormous research activity since its first appearance. CS exploits the signal's sparsity or compressibility in a particular domain and integrates data compression and acquisition, thus allowing exact reconstruction through relatively few non-adaptive linear measurements. While conventional CS theory relies on data representation in the form of vectors, many data types in various applications such as color imaging, video sequences, and multi-sensor networks, are intrinsically represented by higher-order tensors. Application of CS to higher-order data repre…
Deep networks can be trained to map images into a low-dimensional latent space. In many cases, different images in a collection are articulated versions of one another; for example, same object with different lighting, background, or pose. Furthermore, in many cases, parts of images can be corrupted by noise or missing entries. In this paper, our goal is to recover images without access to the ground-truth (clean) images using the articulations as structural prior of the data. Such recovery problems fall under the domain of compressive sensing. We propose to learn autoencoder with tensor ring …
A new video coding method based on compressive sampling is proposed. In this method, a video is coded using compressive measurements on video cubes. Video reconstruction is performed by minimization of total variation (TV) of the pixelwise DCT coefficients along the temporal direction. A new reconstruction algorithm is developed from TVAL3, an efficient TV minimization algorithm based on the alternating minimization and augmented Lagrangian methods. Video coding with this method is inherently scalable, and has applications in mobile broadcast.
Recently, deep learning methods have made a significant improvement in compressive sensing image reconstruction task. In the existing methods, the scene is measured block by block due to the high computational complexity. This results in block-effect of the recovered images. In this paper, we propose a fully convolutional measurement network, where the scene is measured as a whole. The proposed method powerfully removes the block-effect since the structure information of scene images is preserved. To make the measure more flexible, the measurement and the recovery parts are jointly trained. Fr…
