We propose a new method, {\it binary fused compressive sensing} (BFCS), to recover sparse piece-wise smooth signals from 1-bit compressive measurements. The proposed algorithm is a modification of the previous {\it binary iterative hard thresholding} (BIHT) algorithm, where, in addition to the sparsity constraint, the total-variation of the recovered signal is upper constrained. As in BIHT, the data term of the objective function is an one-sided $\ell_1$ (or $\ell_2$) norm. Experiments on the recovery of sparse piece-wise smooth signals show that the proposed algorithm is able to take advantage of the piece-wise smoothness of the original signal, achieving more accurate recovery than BIHT.
We propose a new method, {\it robust binary fused compressive sensing} (RoBFCS), to recover sparse piece-wise smooth signals from 1-bit compressive measurements. The proposed method is a modification of our previous {\it binary fused compressive sensing} (BFCS) algorithm, which is based on the {\it binary iterative hard thresholding} (BIHT) algorithm. As in BIHT, the data term of the objective function is a one-sided $\ell_1$ (or $\ell_2$) norm. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm is able to take advantage of the piece-wise smoothness of the original signal and detect sign flips and c…

We propose a new approach, {\it two-dimensional fused binary compressive sensing} (2DFBCS) to recover 2D sparse piece-wise signals from 1-bit measurements, exploiting 2D group sparsity for 1-bit compressive sensing recovery. The proposed method is a modified 2D version of the previous {\it binary iterative hard thresholding} (2DBIHT) algorithm, where the objective function includes a 2D one-sided $\ell_1$ (or $\ell_2$) penalty function encouraging agreement with the observed data, an indicator function of $K$-sparsity, and a total variation (TV) or modified TV (MTV) constraint. The subgradient…
In this paper, we investigate a new compressive sensing model for multi-channel sparse data where each channel can be represented as a hierarchical tree and different channels are highly correlated. Therefore, the full data could follow the forest structure and we call this property as \emph{forest sparsity}. It exploits both intra- and inter- channel correlations and enriches the family of existing model-based compressive sensing theories. The proposed theory indicates that only $\mathcal{O}(Tk+\log(N/k))$ measurements are required for multi-channel data with forest sparsity, where $T$ is the…
Recent breakthrough results in compressed sensing (CS) have established that many high dimensional objects can be accurately recovered from a relatively small number of non- adaptive linear projection observations, provided that the objects possess a sparse representation in some basis. Subsequent efforts have shown that the performance of CS can be improved by exploiting the structure in the location of the non-zero signal coefficients (structured sparsity) or using some form of online measurement focusing (adaptivity) in the sensing process. In this paper we examine a powerful hybrid of thes…
We present a video compressive sensing framework, termed kt-CSLDS, to accelerate the image acquisition process of dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We are inspired by a state-of-the-art model for video compressive sensing that utilizes a linear dynamical system (LDS) to model the motion manifold. Given compressive measurements, the state sequence of an LDS can be first estimated using system identification techniques. We then reconstruct the observation matrix using a joint structured sparsity assumption. In particular, we minimize an objective function with a mixture of wavelet sparsi…

From many fewer acquired measurements than suggested by the Nyquist sampling theory, compressive sensing (CS) theory demonstrates that, a signal can be reconstructed with high probability when it exhibits sparsity in some domain. Most of the conventional CS recovery approaches, however, exploited a set of fixed bases (e.g. DCT, wavelet and gradient domain) for the entirety of a signal, which are irrespective of the non-stationarity of natural signals and cannot achieve high enough degree of sparsity, thus resulting in poor CS recovery performance. In this paper, we propose a new framework for …

Compressive Sensing (CS) theory shows that a signal can be decoded from many fewer measurements than suggested by the Nyquist sampling theory, when the signal is sparse in some domain. Most of conventional CS recovery approaches, however, exploited a set of fixed bases (e.g. DCT, wavelet, contourlet and gradient domain) for the entirety of a signal, which are irrespective of the nonstationarity of natural signals and cannot achieve high enough degree of sparsity, thus resulting in poor rate-distortion performance. In this paper, we propose a new framework for image compressive sensing recovery…
Compressed sensing enables the reconstruction of high-resolution signals from under-sampled data. While compressive methods simplify data acquisition, they require the solution of difficult recovery problems to make use of the resulting measurements. This article presents a new sensing framework that combines the advantages of both conventional and compressive sensing. Using the proposed \stone transform, measurements can be reconstructed instantly at Nyquist rates at any power-of-two resolution. The same data can then be "enhanced" to higher resolutions using compressive methods that leverage…

The classical problem of phase retrieval arises in various signal acquisition systems. Due to the ill-posed nature of the problem, the solution requires assumptions on the structure of the signal. In the last several years, sparsity and support-based priors have been leveraged successfully to solve this problem. In this work, we propose replacing the sparsity/support priors with generative priors and propose two algorithms to solve the phase retrieval problem. Our proposed algorithms combine the ideas from AltMin approach for non-convex sparse phase retrieval and projected gradient descent app…

Patch-based sparse representation modeling has shown great potential in image compressive sensing (CS) reconstruction. However, this model usually suffers from some limits, such as dictionary learning with great computational complexity, neglecting the relationship among similar patches. In this paper, a group-based sparse representation method with non-convex regularization (GSR-NCR) for image CS reconstruction is proposed. In GSR-NCR, the local sparsity and nonlocal self-similarity of images is simultaneously considered in a unified framework. Different from the previous methods based on spa…

We propose a novel algorithm for compressive imaging that exploits both the sparsity and persistence across scales found in the 2D wavelet transform coefficients of natural images. Like other recent works, we model wavelet structure using a hidden Markov tree (HMT) but, unlike other works, ours is based on loopy belief propagation (LBP). For LBP, we adopt a recently proposed "turbo" message passing schedule that alternates between exploitation of HMT structure and exploitation of compressive-measurement structure. For the latter, we leverage Donoho, Maleki, and Montanari's recently proposed ap…

Compressive Sensing (CS) theory asserts that sparse signal reconstruction is possible from a small number of linear measurements. Although CS enables low-cost linear sampling, it requires non-linear and costly reconstruction. Recent literature works show that compressive image classification is possible in CS domain without reconstruction of the signal. In this work, we introduce a DCT base method that extracts binary discriminative features directly from CS measurements. These CS measurements can be obtained by using (i) a random or a pseudo-random measurement matrix, or (ii) a measurement ma…
Manifold amount of video data gets generated every minute as we read this document, ranging from surveillance to broadcasting purposes. There are two roadblocks that restrain us from using this data as such, first being the storage which restricts us from only storing the information based on the hardware constraints. Secondly, the computation required to process this data is highly expensive which makes it infeasible to work on them. Compressive sensing(CS)[2] is a signal process technique[11], through optimization, the sparsity of a signal can be exploited to recover it from far fewer sample…
Video analytics requires operating with large amounts of data. Compressive sensing allows to reduce the number of measurements required to represent the video using the prior knowledge of sparsity of the original signal, but it imposes certain conditions on the design matrix. The Bayesian compressive sensing approach relaxes the limitations of the conventional approach using the probabilistic reasoning and allows to include different prior knowledge about the signal structure. This paper presents two Bayesian compressive sensing methods for autonomous object detection in a video sequence from …

This paper addresses an ill-posed problem of recovering a color image from its compressively sensed measurement data. Differently from the typical 1D vector-based approach of the state-of-the-art methods, we exploit the nonlocal similarities inherently existing in images by treating each patch of a color image as a 3D tensor consisting of not only horizontal and vertical but also spectral dimensions. A group of nonlocal similar patches form a 4D tensor for which a nonlocal higher order dictionary is learned via higher order singular value decomposition. The multiple sub-dictionaries contained …
We develop a lensless compressive imaging architecture, which consists of an aperture assembly and a single sensor, without using any lens. An anytime algorithm is proposed to reconstruct images from the compressive measurements; the algorithm produces a sequence of solutions that monotonically converge to the true signal (thus, anytime). The algorithm is developed based on the sparsity of local overlapping patches (in the transformation domain) and state-of-the-art results have been obtained. Experiments on real data demonstrate that encouraging results are obtained by measuring about 10% (of…
This paper addresses the single-image compressive sensing (CS) and reconstruction problem. We propose a scalable Laplacian pyramid reconstructive adversarial network (LAPRAN) that enables high-fidelity, flexible and fast CS images reconstruction. LAPRAN progressively reconstructs an image following the concept of Laplacian pyramid through multiple stages of reconstructive adversarial networks (RANs). At each pyramid level, CS measurements are fused with a contextual latent vector to generate a high-frequency image residual. Consequently, LAPRAN can produce hierarchies of reconstructed images a…

This paper introduces a single-pixel HyperSpectral (HS) imaging framework based on Fourier Transform Interferometry (FTI). By combining a space-time coding of the light illumination with partial interferometric observations of a collimated light beam (observed by a single pixel), our system benefits from (i) reduced measurement rate and light-exposure of the observed object compared to common (Nyquist) FTI imagers, and (ii) high spectral resolution as desirable in, e.g., Fluorescence Spectroscopy (FS). From the principles of compressive sensing with multilevel sampling, our method leverages th…

A framework for adaptive and non-adaptive statistical compressive sensing is developed, where a statistical model replaces the standard sparsity model of classical compressive sensing. We propose within this framework optimal task-specific sensing protocols specifically and jointly designed for classification and reconstruction. A two-step adaptive sensing paradigm is developed, where online sensing is applied to detect the signal class in the first step, followed by a reconstruction step adapted to the detected class and the observed samples. The approach is based on information theory, here …

Parametric images provide insight into the spatial distribution of physiological parameters, but they are often extremely noisy, due to low SNR of tomographic data. Direct estimation from projections allows accurate noise modeling, improving the results of post-reconstruction fitting. We propose a method, which we name kinetic compressive sensing (KCS), based on a hierarchical Bayesian model and on a novel reconstruction algorithm, that encodes sparsity of kinetic parameters. Parametric maps are reconstructed by maximizing the joint probability, with an Iterated Conditional Modes (ICM) approac…

We propose a novel regularization method for compressive imaging in the context of the compressed sensing (CS) theory with coherent and redundant dictionaries. Natural images are often complicated and several types of structures can be present at once. It is well known that piecewise smooth images exhibit gradient sparsity, and that images with extended structures are better encapsulated in wavelet frames. Therefore, we here conjecture that promoting average sparsity or compressibility over multiple frames rather than single frames is an extremely powerful regularization prior.

Convolution neural networks (CNNs) have succeeded in compressive image sensing. However, due to the inductive bias of locality and weight sharing, the convolution operations demonstrate the intrinsic limitations in modeling the long-range dependency. Transformer, designed initially as a sequence-to-sequence model, excels at capturing global contexts due to the self-attention-based architectures even though it may be equipped with limited localization abilities. This paper proposes CSformer, a hybrid framework that integrates the advantages of leveraging both detailed spatial information from C…
