The thermodynamics of finite size quark matter in the quasiparticle model is self-consistently constructed by an effective bag function, which presents the medium effect to the confinement. We obtained completely analytic surface tension in the strong magnetic field with the multiple reflection expansion. The anisotropic structure is demonstrated by the splitting of the longitudinal and transverse surface tensions. The anisotropy of the surface tension could be enhanced by an increase of the magnetic field. The analytical surface tension is modified by an additional term related to the bag function. For strong enough magnetic fields, the increase of the longitudinal surface tension is proportional to the magnetic field. On the contrary, the transverse component vanishes due to all quarks locating in the lowest landau level.
In this work, we compute the hard thermal loop pressure of quark-gluon plasma within strong magnetic field approximation at one-loop order. Magnetic field breaks the rotational symmetry of the system. As a result, the pressure of QGP becomes anisotropic and one finds two different pressures along the longitudinal (along the magnetic field direction) and transverse direction. Similarly, the second-order quark number susceptibility, which represents the fluctuation of the net quark number density, also becomes anisotropic. We compute the second order QNS of deconfined QCD matter in strong field …
We study the surface tension of highly magnetized three flavor quark matter within the formalism of multiple reflection expansion (MRE). Quark matter is described as a mixture of free Fermi gases composed by quarks $u$, $d$, $s$ and electrons, in chemical equilibrium under weak interactions. Due to the presence of strong magnetic fields the particles' transverse motion is quantized into Landau levels, and the surface tension has a different value in the parallel and transverse directions with respect to the magnetic field. We calculate the transverse and longitudinal surface tension for differ…
The impact of a strong magnetic field, varying with the total baryon number density, on thermodynamic properties of strange quark matter (SQM) in the core of a magnetized hybrid star is considered at zero temperature within the framework of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) bag model. It is clarified that the central magnetic field strength is bound from above by the value at which the derivative of the longitudinal pressure with respect to the baryon number density vanishes first somewhere in the quark core under varying the central field. Above this upper bound, the instability…
The surface tension of quark matter plays a crucial role for the possibility of quark matter nucleation during the formation of compact stellar objects and also for the existence of a mixed phase within hybrid stars. However, despite its importance, this quantity does not have a well established numerical value. Some early estimates have predicted that, at zero temperature, the value falls within the wide range $γ_0\approx10-300{\rm\ MeV/fm^2}$ but, very recently, different model applications have reduced these numerical values to fall within the range $γ_0\approx5-30{\rm\ MeV/fm^2}$ which wou…
We investigate magnetic field $(eB)$ dependence of constituent quark mass, the longitudinal and transverse pressure as well as the magnetization and magnetic susceptibility of strongly interacting quark matter. We employ the two-flavour Polyakov Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the inclusion of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of the quarks at finite temperature $(T)$ and finite quark chemical potential $(μ_q)$ capturing different stages of chiral phase transition. We find that the transverse pressure, magnetization and magnetic susceptibility become highly oscillatory for large values of $eB…
We study the electron-positron vacuum in a strong magnetic field $B$ in parallel with Casimir effect. Use is made of the energy-momentum tensor, taken as the zero temperature and zero density limit of the relativistic quantum statistical tensor. In both magnetic field and Casimir cases it is shown the arising of anisotropic pressures. In the first case the pressure transversal to the field $B$ is negative, whereas along $B$ an usual positive pressure arises. Similarly, in addition to the usual negative Casimir pressure perpendicular to the plates, the existence of a positive pressure along the…
We extend previous work on dynamical AdS/QCD models by introducing an extra ingredient under the form of a background magnetic field, this to gain insight into the influence such field can have on crucial QCD observables. Therefore, we construct a closed form analytic solution to an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system with a magnetic field. We specifically focus on the deconfinement transition, reporting inverse magnetic catalysis, and on the string tension, reporting a weaker/stronger confinement along/perpendicular to the magnetic field. The latter, being of importance to potential modelling of …
We studied the effect of a strong magnetic field ($B$) on the electrical conductivity of hot quark matter. The electrical conductivity is a key transport coefficient determining the time dependence and strength of magnetic fields generated in a relativistic heavy-ion collision. A~magnetic field induces Hall anisotropic conduction, phase-space Landau-level quantization and, if sufficiently strong, interferes with prominent QCD phenomena such as dynamical quark mass generation, likely affecting the quark matter electrical conductivity, which depends strongly on the quark masses. To address these…
Context: Many thermally emitting isolated neutron stars have magnetic fields larger than 10^13 G. A realistic cooling model that includes the presence of high magnetic fields should be reconsidered. Aims: We investigate the effects of anisotropic temperature distribution and Joule heating on the cooling of magnetized neutron stars. Methods: The 2D heat transfer equation with anisotropic thermal conductivity tensor and including all relevant neutrino emission processes is solved for realistic models of the neutron star interior and crust. Results: The presence of the magnetic field affects sign…
We obtain the pressures and equations of state (EoS) of charged and neutral vector boson gases in a constant magnetic field. The axial symmetry imposed to the system by the field splits the pressures in the parallel and perpendicular directions along the magnetic axis, and this leads to anisotropic equations of state. The values of pressures and energy densities are in the order of those of Fermi gases in compact objects. This opens the possibility to the existence of magnetized boson stars. Under certain conditions, the perpendicular pressure might be negative imposing a bound to the stabilit…
Thermodynamic properties of strange quark matter (SQM) in a nonuniform magnetic field are studied within the phenomenological MIT bag model under the charge neutrality and beta equilibrium conditions, relevant to the interior of strange quark stars. The spatial dependence of the magnetic field strength is modeled by the dependence on the baryon chemical potential in the exponential and power forms. The total energy density, longitudinal and transverse pressures in magnetized SQM are found as functions of the baryon chemical potential. It is clarified that the central magnetic field strength in…
The effect of a strong magnetic field on the electric polarization of a three-flavor color superconducting medium is investigated. We found that the electric susceptibility of this strongly magnetized medium is highly anisotropic. In the direction transverse to the applied magnetic field the susceptibility reduces to that of the vacuum, while in the longitudinal direction it depends on the magnetic field and decreases with it. The nature of this behavior is associated with the field's dependence of the Cooper pairs' coherence length, which plays the role of the electric dipole length. The fiel…
It is analyzed the effects of a hot and magnetized medium on the axion mass, self-coupling and topological susceptibility when in presence of an anisotropic external magnetic field along the $z$-direction, within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio effective model for quantum chromodynamics. The effects of both Magnetic Catalysis and Inverse Magnetic Catalysis are explicitly taken into account through appropriate matching of parameters with those from lattice Monte-Carlo numerical simulations. It is also analyzed the dependence of the results with respect to different model parametrizations in the context…
The thermomagnetic behavior of quark-gluon plasma has recently received a lot of attention. In this work, we make use of the extended self-consistent quasiparticle model to study the thermodynamic properties of magnetized (2+1) flavor quark-gluon plasma. The system is considered as a non-interacting system of quasiparticles with masses depending on both temperature and magnetic field. This allows obtaining the equation of state of the system and the other thermodynamic properties such as the speed of sound. We use the extended self-consistent model to obtain the magnetization and show that QGP…
We have pointed out the possibility of quantum Hall effect or quantum patterns of transportation in a degenerate strongly magnetized quark matter, which might be expected inside a highly dense compact star. An anisotropic pattern of electrical conductivity and resistivity tensor in classical and quantum cases is explored by considering cyclotron motion and Landau quantization respectively. With increasing magnetic field, classical to quantum transitions are realized through enhanced/reduced resistivity/conductivity with jumping pattern. Considering QCD relaxation time scale of 10 fm, $eB\appro…
We study the surface tension of hot, highly magnetized three flavor quark matter droplets, focusing specifically on the thermodynamic conditions prevailing in neutron stars, hot lepton rich protoneutron stars and neutron star mergers. We explore the role of temperature, baryon number density, trapped neutrinos, droplet size and magnetic fields within the multiple reflection expansion formalism (MRE), assuming that astrophysical quark matter can be described as a mixture of free Fermi gases composed by quarks $u$, $d$, $s$, electrons and neutrinos, in chemical equilibrium under weak interaction…
We show that the chiral-symmetry-broken phase of massless QED in the presence of a magnetic field exhibits strong paraelectricity. A large anisotropic electric susceptibility develops in the infrared region, where most of the fermions are confined to their lowest Landau level, and dynamical mass and anomalous magnetic moment are generated via the magnetic catalysis mechanism. The nonperturbative nature of this effect is reflected in the dependence of the electric susceptibility on the fine-structure constant. The strong paraelectricity is linked to the electric dipole moments of the particle/a…
In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, enormous magnetic fields are generated because of fast-moving charged particles. In the presence of these magnetic fields, the spin of particles is aligned either in the parallel or in the antiparallel direction with respect to the direction of the magnetic field. A finite magnetization is thus produced. It is known that a finite magnetic susceptibility, $χ_{m}$, changes the evolution of the energy density of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), which is believed to be created in these collisions. Depending on whether the system under consideration is a para…
We study the string tension $σ$ of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in external magnetic fields $B$ by combining the quasi-particle treatments for quarks with the collective treatments for gluons. We utilize the 1/Nc-expansion (Nc: number of colors) and the framework of Wilson's strong coupling expansion at long distance, and compare the resulting string tensions with the lattice data. The effects of magnetic fields are taken into account through the dielectric functions, which are evaluated from the one-loop polarization due to light flavor quarks with $B$-dependent effective masses $M_{\rm f}(B)…
