We demonstrate the quantum Mpemba effect in a quantum dot coupled to two reservoirs, described by the Anderson model. We show that the system temperatures starting from two different initial values (hot and cold), cross each other at finite time (and thereby reverse their identities i.e. hot becomes cold and vice versa) to generate thermal quantam Mpemba effect. The slowest relaxation mode believed to play the dominating role in Mpemba effect in Markovian systems, does not contribute to such anomalous relaxation in the present model. In this connection, our analytical result provides necessary condition for producing quantum Mpemba effect in the density matrix elements of the quantum dot, as a combined effect of the remaining relaxation modes.
The Mpemba effect occurs when two samples at different initial temperatures evolve in such a way that the temperatures cross each other during the relaxation towards equilibrium. In this paper we show the emergence of a Mpemba-like effect in a molecular binary mixture in contact with a thermal reservoir (bath). The interaction between the gaseous particles of the mixture and the thermal reservoir is modeled via a viscous drag force plus a stochastic Langevin-like term. The presence of the external bath couples the time evolution of the total and partial temperatures of each component allowing …
The so-called Mpemba effect, i.e. the observation that the warmer of two otherwise identical systems cools faster when both are refrigerated in the same thermal reservoir, is a hotly debated topic in condensed mater physics and statistical mechanics. Although it has been found in several non-equilibrium model systems, its very existence in water, the system in which it has been historically reported, is still open to question. Here we show using numerical simulations that a Mpemba effect is indeed present in water. We find that the effect occurs when equipartition of energy is not present in t…

We study heat current and the full statistics of heat fluctuations in a capacitively-coupled double quantum dot system. This work is motivated by recent theoretical studies and experimental works on heat currents in quantum dot circuits. As expected intuitively, within the (static) mean-field approximation, the system at steady-state decouples into two single-dot equilibrium systems with renormalized dot energies, leading to zero average heat flux and fluctuations. This reveals that dynamic correlations induced between electrons on the dots is solely responsible for the heat transport between …
We conduct numerical simulations for an autonomous information engine comprising a set of coupled double quantum dots using a simple model. The steady-state entropy production rate in each component, heat and electron transfer rates are calculated via the probability distribution of the four electronic states from the master transition-rate equations. We define an information-engine efficiency based on the entropy change of the reservoir, implicating power generators that employ the environmental order as a new energy resource. We acquire device-design principles, toward the realization of cor…
We point out that the transport properties of non-interacting fermionic chains tunnel-coupled to two reservoirs at their ends can be mapped to those of a single quantum dot that is tunnel-coupled to two transformed reservoirs. The parameters of the chain are mapped to additional structure in the spectral densities of the transformed reservoirs. For example, this enables the calculation of the transmission of quantum dot chains by evaluating the known transmission of a single quantum dot together with structured spectral densities. We exemplify this analytically for short chains, which allows t…
