The growing popularity of neuro symbolic reasoning has led to the adoption of various forms of differentiable (i.e., fuzzy) first order logic. We introduce PyReason, a software framework based on generalized annotated logic that both captures the current cohort of differentiable logics and temporal extensions to support inference over finite periods of time with capabilities for open world reasoning. Further, PyReason is implemented to directly support reasoning over graphical structures (e.g., knowledge graphs, social networks, biological networks, etc.), produces fully explainable traces of inference, and includes various practical features such as type checking and a memory-efficient implementation. This paper reviews various extensions of generalized annotated logic integrated into our implementation, our modern, efficient Python-based implementation that conducts exact yet scalable deductive inference, and a suite of experiments. PyReason is available at: github.com/lab-v2/pyreason.

We report on several scenarios of using automated theorem proving software in university education. In particular, we focus on using the Theorema system in a software-enhanced logic-course for students in computer science or artificial intelligence. The purpose of using logic-software in our teaching is not to teach students the proper use of a particular piece of software. In contrast, we try to employ certain software in order to spark students' motivation and to support their understanding of logic principles they are supposed to understand after having passed the course. In a sense, we try…
We introduce and investigate a weighted propositional configuration logic over De Morgan algebras. This logic is able to describe software architectures with quantitative features such as the uncertainty of the interactions that occur in the architecture. We deal with the equivalence problem of formulas in our logic by proving that every formula can be written in a specific form. To our surprise, there are formulas which are equivalent only over specific De Morgan algebras. We provide examples of formulas in our logic which describe well-known software architectures equipped with quantitative …
We develop model checking algorithms for Temporal Stream Logic (TSL) and Hyper Temporal Stream Logic (HyperTSL) modulo theories. TSL extends Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) with memory cells, functions and predicates, making it a convenient and expressive logic to reason over software and other systems with infinite data domains. HyperTSL further extends TSL to the specification of hyperproperties - properties that relate multiple system executions. As such, HyperTSL can express information flow policies like noninterference in software systems. We augment HyperTSL with theories, resulting in Hype…
Critical systems require high reliability and are present in many domains. They are systems in which failure may result in financial damage or even loss of lives. Standard techniques of software engineering are not enough to ensure the absence of unacceptable failures and/or that critical requirements are fulfilled. Reo is a component-based modelling language that aims to provide a framework to build software based on existing pieces of software, which has been used in a wide variety of domains. Its formal semantics provides grounds to certify that systems based on Reo models satisfy specific …
Usability is crucial for the adoption of software development technologies. This is especially true in development stages, where build processes fail, because software is not yet complete or was incompletely modified. We present early work that aims to improve usability of the Combinatory Logic Synthesizer (CL)S framework, especially in these stages. (CL)S is a publicly available type-based development tool for the automatic composition of software components from a user-specified repository. It provides an implementation of a type inhabitation algorithm for Combinatory Logic with intersection…
The design of complex software systems usually lies in multiple coordinating components with an unknown number of instances. For such systems a main challenge is modelling efficiently their architecture that determines the topology and the interaction principles among the components. To achieve well-founded design there is need to address the quantitative aspects of software architectures. In this paper we study the modelling problem of software architectures applied on parametric weighted component-based systems where the parameter is the number of instances of each component. For this, we in…
Verifying software correctness has always been an important and complicated task. Recently, formal proofs of critical properties of algorithms and even implementations are becoming practical. Currently, the most powerful automated proof search tools use first-order logic while popular interactive proof assistants use higher-order logic. We present our work-in-progress set of tools that aim to eventually provide a usable first-order logic computer-assisted proof environment.
TLA is a popular temporal logic for writing stuttering-invariant specifications of digital systems. However, TLA lacks higher-order features useful for specifying modern software written in higher-order programming languages. We use categorical techniques to recast a real-time semantics for TLA in terms of the actions of a group of time dilations, or "stutters," and an extension by a monoid incorporating delays, or "falters." Via the geometric morphism of the associated presheaf topoi induced by the inclusion of stutters into falters, we construct the first model of a higher-order TLA.
This volume contains a selection of papers presented at LFMTP 2019, the 14th International Workshop on Logical Frameworks and Meta-Languages: Theory and Practice (LFMTP), held on June 22, 2019, in Vancouver, Canada. The workshop was affiliated with the Thirty-Fourth Annual ACM/IEEE Symposium on Logic in Computer Science (LICS). Logical frameworks and meta-languages form a common substrate for representing, implementing and reasoning about a wide variety of deductive systems of interest in logic and computer science. Their design, implementation and their use in reasoning tasks, ranging from th…
Cyber-attacks can have severe impacts on critical infrastructures, from outages to economical loss and physical damage to people and environment. One of the main targets of these attacks is the smart grid. In this paper, we propose a new software detector for integrity attacks targeting smart meter readings. The detector relies upon mining parameters of temporal logic specifications for integrity attack classification. To this end, we use Signal Temporal Logic (STL) for specifying properties over time series. Our approach considers different "attack scenarios" found in last years: given a para…
