We present the results of an ALMA survey to identify 183 GHz H$_2$O maser emission from AGN already known to host 22 GHz megamaser systems. Out of 20 sources observed, we detect significant 183 GHz maser emission from 13; this survey thus increases the number of AGN known to host (sub)millimeter megamasers by a factor of 5. We find that the 183 GHz emission is systematically fainter than the 22 GHz emission from the same targets, with typical flux densities being roughly an order of magnitude lower at 183 GHz than at 22 GHz. However, the isotropic luminosities of the detected 183 GHz sources are comparable to their 22 GHz values. For two of our sources -- ESO 269-G012 and the Circinus galaxy -- we detect rich 183 GHz spectral structure containing multiple line complexes. The 183 GHz spectrum of ESO 269-G012 exhibits the triple-peaked structure characteristic of an edge-on AGN disk system. The Circinus galaxy contains the strongest 183 GHz emission detected in our sample, peaking at a flux density of nearly 5 Jy. The high signal-to-noise ratios achieved by these strong lines enable a coarse mapping of the 183 GHz maser system, in which the masers appear to be distributed similarly to those seen in VLBI maps of the 22 GHz system in the same galaxy and may be tracing the circumnuclear accretion disk at larger orbital radii than are occupied by the 22 GHz masers. This newly identified population of AGN disk megamasers presents a motivation for developing VLBI capabilities at 183 GHz.
We have detected emission from both the 4_{-1}-3_{0} E (36.2~GHz) class I and 7_{-2}-8_{-1} E (37.7~GHz) class II methanol transitions towards the centre of the closest ultra-luminous infrared galaxy Arp 220. The emission in both the methanol transitions show narrow spectral features and have luminosities approximately 8 orders of magnitude stronger than that observed from typical class I methanol masers observed in Galactic star formation regions. The emission is also orders of magnitude stronger than the expected intensity of thermal emission from these transitions and based on these finding…
Aim: The aim of this work is to search Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 4945, a well-known 22 GHz water megamaser galaxy, for water (mega)maser emission at 183 GHz. Method: We used APEX SEPIA Band 5 to perform the observations. Results: We detected 183 GHz water maser emission towards NGC 4945 with a peak flux density of ~3 Jy near the galactic systemic velocity. The emission spans a velocity range of several hundred km/s. We estimate an isotropic luminosity of > 1000 Lsun, classifying the emission as a megamaser. A comparison of the 183 GHz spectrum with that observed at 22 GHz suggests that 183 GHz emis…
We investigate the nuclear environment of galaxies with observed 22 GHz water megamaser in their subparsec edge-on accretion disks, using 33 GHz (9mm) radio continuum data from VLA, with a resolution of ~ 0.2-0.5 arcsecs, and relate the maser and host galaxy properties to those of its radio continuum emission. Eighty-seven percent (21 out of 24) galaxies in our sample show 33 GHz radio continuum emission at levels of 4.5-240 $σ$. Five sources show extended emission, including one source with two main components and one with three main components. The remaining detected 16 sources exhibit compa…
We present 321 GHz observations of five AGN from ALMA Cycle 0 archival data: NGC 5793, NGC 1068, NGC 1386, NGC 4945, and the Circinus galaxy. Submillimeter maser emission is detected for the first time towards NGC 4945, and we present a new analysis of the submillimeter maser system in Circinus. None of the other three galaxies show maser emission, though we have detected and imaged the continuum from every galaxy. Both NGC 4945 and Circinus are known to host strong ($\gtrsim 10$ Jy) 22 GHz megamaser emission, and VLBI observations have shown that the masers reside in the innermost $\sim 1$ pa…
Questions surround the connection of luminous extragalactic masers to galactic processes. The observation that water and hydroxyl megamasers rarely coexist in the same galaxy has given rise to a hypothesis that the two species appear in different phases of nuclear activity. The detection of simultaneous hydroxyl and water megamaser emission toward IC694 has called this hypothesis into question but, because many megamasers have not been surveyed for emission in the other molecule, it remains unclear whether IC694 occupies a narrow phase of galaxy evolution or whether the relationship between me…
Water megamasers from circumnuclear disks in galaxy centers provide the most accurate measurements of supermassive black hole masses and uniquely probe the sub-parsec accretion processes. At the same time, these systems offer independent crucial constraints of the Hubble Constant in the nearby universe, and thus, the arguably best single constraint on the nature of dark energy. The chances of finding these golden standards are however abysmally low, at an overall =< 3% for any level of water maser emission detected at 22 GHz, and =< 1% for those exhibiting the disk-like configuration. We provi…
We study the radio variability of galaxies with and without sources of hydroxyl (OH) megamaser radiation based on the continuum radio measurements conducted in 2019-2022 with the radio telescope RATAN-600 at frequencies of 2.3, 4.7, 8.2, and 11.2 GHz. Presumably, radio continuum emission significantly affects the megamaser radiation brightness, therefore, such a characteristic as the variability of radio emission is important for determining the OHM galaxies parameters. With additional data from the literature, the parameters of radio variability on a time scale up to 30 years were estimated. …
We report four new 22 GHz water masers found in a Green Bank Telescope search toward 37 nearby objects. Our goal was to find new maser galaxies, AGN disk-masers, and objects where both hydroxyl and water maser species coexist. We observed 37 sources within 250 Mpc that were selected by high X-ray luminosity (L_X > 10^40 W) and high absorbing column density (N_H ~ 10^22 cm^-2). Sources also included dual or triple AGN and interacting systems. We further included objects detected in hydroxyl (OH). The selection consisted of 16 new sources, 13 previous non-detections to follow up with a factor te…
Extragalactic water maser emissions at 22 GHz have been playing vital roles in astrophysics. The limited detection rate of these masers has been motivating researchers to find clues that can help characterise them. The physical environments 22 GHz masers formed in are still ambiguous. Accordingly, statistical studies have been thoroughly used to resolve these favourable environments. This work goes through the essential parameter of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), namely, the mass of the central supermassive black hole (MBH) of the maser host galaxy. We study the correlation between maser lumino…
We present a line survey of the ultra-luminous infrared galaxy Arp 220, taken with the newly installed SEPIA Band 5 instrument on APEX. We illustrate the capacity of SEPIA to detect the 183.3 GHz H2O 31,3-22,0 line against the atmospheric H2O absorption feature. We confirm the previous detection of the HCN(2-1) line, and detect new transitions of standard dense gas tracers such as HNC(2-1), HCO+(2-1), CS(4-3), C34S(4-3), HC3N(20-19). We also detect HCN(2-1) v2=1 and the 193.5 GHz methanol (4-3) group for the first time. The absence of time variations in the megamaser water line compared to pre…

Water megamasers at 22 GHz with a gas disk configuration in galaxies provide the most precise measurements of supermassive black hole masses, as well as independent constraints on the Hubble constant in the nearby universe. The existence of other maser types, such as jet or outflow masers, represents another tracer for AGN science. However, the detection rate of water megamasers in galaxies is extremely low. Over 40 years, only $\sim$ 160 galaxies are found to harbour maser emission, and $\sim$ 30\% of them show features in their maser emission that indicate a disk-like geometry. Therefore, in…
We present the first search for the 5.29 GHz methanimine($\rm{CH}_2\rm{NH}$) $1_{10}-1_{11}$ transition toward a sample of galaxy nuclei. We target seven galaxies that host Compact Obscured Nuclei (CONs) with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. These galaxies are characterized by Compton-thick cores. $\rm{CH}_2\rm{NH}$ emission is detected toward six CONs. The brightness temperatures measured toward Arp220 indicate maser emission. Isotropic luminosities of the $\rm{CH}_2\rm{NH}$ transition, from all sources where it is detected, exceed 1 L$_{\odot}$ and thus may be considered megamasers. We a…
An essential part of the paradigm describing active galactic nuclei is the alignment between the radio jet and the associated rotation axis of the sub-pc sized accretion disks. Because of the small linear and angular scales involved, this alignment has not yet been checked in a sufficient number of Low Luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei (LLAGNs). The project intends to examine the validity of this paradigm by measuring the radio continuum on the same physical scale as the accretion disks, to investigate any possible connection between these disks and the radio continuum. We observed a sample of…
We present a study of the radio continuum properties of two luminous/ultraluminous infrared galaxy samples: the OH megamaser (OHM) sample (74 objects) and the control sample (128 objects) without detected maser emission. We carried out pilot observations for 140 objects with the radio telescope RATAN-600 at 1.2, 2.3, 4.7, 8.2, 11.2, and 22.3 GHz in 2019-2021. The OHM sample has two times more flat-spectrum sources (32 per cent) than the control sample. Steep radio spectra prevail in both samples. The median spectral index at 4.7 GHz $α_{4.7}=-0.59$ for the OHM sample, and $α_{4.7}=-0.71$ for t…
We present Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS) Integral Field Unit (IFU), Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and Very Large Array (VLA) observations of the OH Megamaser (OHM) galaxy IRAS 11506-3851. The HST images reveal an isolated spiral galaxy and the combination with the GMOS-IFU flux distributions and VLA data allow us to identify a partial ring of star-forming regions surrounding the nucleus with a radius of ~ 500 pc. While this ring shows starburst excitation and low velocity dispersion, the region internal to the ring shows higher excitation and velocity dispersion values, with values in…
H$_2$O MegaMaser emission may arise from thin gas discs surrounding the massive nuclei of galaxies such as NGC\,4258, but the physical conditions responsible for the amplified emission are unclear. A detailed view of these regions is possible using the very high angular resolution afforded by space very long baseline interferometry (SVLBI). Here we report SVLBI experiments conducted using the orbiting RadioAstron Observatory that have resulted in detections of the H$_2$O 22 GHz emission in NGC\,4258, with Earth-space baselines of 1.3, 9.5 and 19.5 Earth diameters. Observations at the highest a…
A relationship between the water maser detection rate and large nuclear column densities in AGN has often been cited in the literature. Indeed, detailed studies of luminous water masers, typically associated with the nuclear activity, allow us to investigate the innermost regions of AGN, with an impact on the still debated Unified Model for this class of objects. We have recently entertained a search for maser emission in a well-defined sample of Compton-thick AGN aimed at investigating, on firm statistical bases, the aforementioned relationship. While the survey is still ongoing, and is matter…
We use single-dish radio spectra of known 22 GHz H$_2$O megamasers, primarily gathered from the large dataset observed by the Megamaser Cosmology Project, to identify Keplerian accretion disks and to investigate several aspects of the disk physics. We test a mechanism for maser excitation proposed by Maoz & McKee (1998), whereby population inversion arises in gas behind spiral shocks traveling through the disk. Though the flux of redshifted features is larger on average than that of blueshifted features, in support of the model, the high-velocity features show none of the predicted systematic …
Several thin, Keplerian, sub-parsec megamaser disks have been discovered in the nuclei of active galaxies and used to precisely determine the mass of their host black holes. We show that there is an empirical linear correlation between the disk radius and the black hole mass. We demonstrate that such disks are naturally formed by the partial capture of molecular clouds passing through the galactic nucleus and temporarily engulfing the central supermassive black hole. Imperfect cancellation of the angular momenta of the cloud material colliding after passing on opposite sides of the hole leads …
Water megamaser emission at 22 GHz has proven to be a powerful tool for astrophysical studies of AGN allowing an accurate determination of the central black hole mass and of the accretion disc geometry and dynamics. However, after searches among thousands of galaxies, only ~ 200 of them have shown such spectroscopic features, most of them of uncertain classification. In addition, the physical and geometrical conditions under which maser activates are still unknown. In this work we aim at characterizing the occurrence of water maser emission in an unbiased sample of AGN, investigating the relat…

Mass and spin are two fundamental properties of astrophysical black holes. While some established, indirect methods are adopted to measure both these properties of active galactic nuclei (AGN) when viewed relatively face-on, very few suggested methods exist to measure these properties when AGN are viewed highly inclined and potentially obscured by large amounts of gas. In this context, we explore the accuracy and performance of a recently proposed method to estimate the spin of AGN through fitting their accretion disk spectral energy distribution, when adapted for highly inclined and obscured …
A sample of 30 H2O extra-galactic maser galaxies with their published HCN(J=1-0) and HCO+(J=1-0) observations has been compiled to investigate the dense gas correlation with H2O maser emission. Our sample number exceeds the size of the previous HCN samples studied so far by a factor of three, and it is the first study on the possible relation with the dense gas tracer HCO+. We find a strong correlation between normalized H2O maser emission luminosity (LH2O\LCO) and normalized HCO+ line luminosity (LHCO+\LCO). Moreover, a weak correlation has been found between LH2O\LCO and normalized HCN line …
In the local Universe, OH megamasers (OHMs) are detected almost exclusively in infrared-luminous galaxies, with a prevalence that increases with IR luminosity, suggesting that they trace gas-rich galaxy mergers. Given the proximity of the rest frequencies of OH and the hyperfine transition of neutral atomic hydrogen (HI), radio surveys to probe the cosmic evolution of HI in galaxies also offer exciting prospects for exploiting OHMs to probe the cosmic history of gas-rich mergers. Using observations for the Looking At the Distant Universe with the MeerKAT Array (LADUMA) deep HI survey, we repor…
We revisit the relation between H2O maser detection rate and nuclear obscuration for a sample of 114 Seyfert galaxies, drawn from the CfA, 12um and IRAS F25/F60 catalogs. These sources have mid-infrared spectra from the Spitzer Space Telescope and they are searched for X-ray and [O III], 5007Angstrom fluxes from the literature. We use the strength of the [O IV], 25.9um emission line as tracer for the intrinsic AGN strength. After normalization by [O IV] the observed X-ray flux provides information about X-ray absorption. The distribution of X-ray / [O IV] flux ratios is significantly different…
We monitored the 22 GHz maser line in the lensed quasar MG J0414+0534 at z=2.64 with the 300-m Arecibo telescope for almost two years to detect possible additional maser components and to measure a potential velocity drift of the lines. The main maser line profile is complex and can be resolved into a number of broad features with line widths of 30-160 km/s. A new maser component was tentatively detected in October 2008 at a velocity of +470 km/s. After correcting for the estimated lens magnification, we find that the H2O isotropic luminosity of the maser in MG J0414+0534 is about 26,000 solar…
We present Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) Ka band (33 GHz) and Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) Band 3 (94.5 GHz) continuum images covering the nucleus and two extranuclear star-forming regions within the nearby galaxy NGC 3627 (M 66), observed as part of the Star Formation in Radio Survey (SFRS). Both images achieve an angular resolution of $\lesssim$2\arcsec, allowing us to map the radio spectral indices and estimate thermal radio fractions at a linear resolution of $\lesssim$90 pc at the distance of NGC 3627. The thermal fraction at 33 GHz reaches unity at and around the peaks o…
The 4.8 GHz formaldehyde masers are one of a number of rare types of molecular masers in the Galaxy. The aim of the present calculations is to explore a larger region of parameter space to improve on our previous calculations, thereby to better understand the range of physical conditions under which an inversion of the 4.8 GHz transition occurs. We solve the rate equations of the first 40 rotational levels of o-formaldehyde using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. We consider gas kinetic temperatures between 10 K and 300 K, H_2 densities between 10^4 and 10^6 per cc, and a number of different …
We present results of the investigations of the properties of the methanol $J_1 - J_0$ A$^{-+}$ line series motivated by the recent serendipitous detection of the maser emission in the $14_1 - 14_0$ A$^{-+}$ line at 349~GHz in S255IR-SMA1 soon after the accretion burst. The study includes further observations of several lines of this series in S255IR with the SMA, a mini-survey of methanol lines in the 0.8 mm range toward a sample of bright 6.7~GHz methanol maser sources with the IRAM-30m telescope, and theoretical modeling. We found that the maser component of the $14_1 - 14_0$ A$^{-+}$ line …
Extragalactic observations of water emission can provide valuable insights into the excitation of the interstellar medium. In addition, extragalactic megamasers are powerful probes of kinematics close to active nuclei. Therefore, it is paramount to determine the true origin of the water emission, whether it is excited by processes close to an AGN or in star-forming regions. We use ALMA Band 5 science verification observations to analyse the emission of the 183 GHz water line in Arp 220 on sub-arcsecond scales, in conjunction with new ALMA Band 7 data at 325 GHz. Specifically, the nature of the…
We present the results of ALMA $\sim$2 mm, $\lesssim$1$''$-resolution observations of ten (ultra)luminous infrared galaxies ([U]LIRGs; infrared luminosity $\gtrsim$ 10$^{11.7}$L$_{\odot}$) at $z <$ 0.15, targeting dense ($>$10$^{4}$ cm$^{-3}$) molecular (HCN, HCO$^{+}$, and HNC J=2-1) and 183 GHz H$_{2}$O 3$_{1,3}$-2$_{2,0}$ emission lines. Higher HCN to HCO$^{+}$ J=2-1 flux ratios are observed in some, but not all, AGN-important ULIRGs than in starburst-classified sources. We detect 183 GHz H$_{2}$O emission in almost all AGN-important ULIRGs, and elevated H$_{2}$O emission is found in two so…
We present a comparative study of a set of star-formation rate tracers based on mid-infrared emission in the 12.81$μ$m [Ne II] line, the 15.56$μ$m [Ne III] line, and emission features from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) between 5.2 and 14.7$μ$m. We calibrate our tracers with the thermal component of the radio continuum emission at 33 GHz from 33 extranuclear star-forming regions observed in nearby galaxies. Correlations between mid-IR emission features and thermal 33 GHz star-formation rates (SFR) show significant metallicity-dependent scatter and offsets. We find similar metallicity-…
We report on the detection of 44 GHz Class I methanol (CH3OH) maser emission in the SgrA complex with the Expanded Very Large Array (EVLA). These EVLA observations show that the SgrA complex harbors at least four different tracers of shocked regions in the radio regime. The 44 GHz masers correlate with the positions and velocities of previously detected 36 GHz CH3OH masers, but less with 1720 MHz OH masers. Our detections agree with theoretical predictions that the densities and temperatures conducive for 1720 MHz OH masers may also produce 36 and 44 GHz CH3OH maser emission. However, many 44 …
We present a study of signatures of on-going star formation in a sample of protostellar objects with enhanced 4.5 μm emission ('green' sources) near the Galactic center. To understand how star formation in the Galactic center region compares to that of the Galactic disk, we used the Expanded Very Large Array to observe radiatively excited Class II 6.7 GHz CH3OH masers and collisionally excited Class I 44 GHz CH3OH masers, both tracers of high-mass star formation, toward a sample of 34 Galactic center and foreground 'green' sources. We find that 33\pm15% of Galactic center sources are coinciden…
Radio free-free emission is considered to be one of the most reliable tracers of star formation in galaxies. However, as it constitutes the faintest part of the radio spectrum -- being roughly an order of magnitude less luminous than radio synchrotron emission at the GHz frequencies typically targeted in radio surveys -- the usage of free-free emission as a star formation rate tracer has mostly remained limited to the local Universe. Here we perform a multi-frequency radio stacking analysis using deep Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array observations at 1.4, 3, 5, 10 and 34 GHz in the COSMOS and GO…
We present 1.4 pc resolution observations of 256 GHz nuclear radio continuum and HCN ($J=3 \to 2$) in the molecular torus of NGC 1068. The integrated radio continuum emission has a flat spectrum consistent with free-free emission and resolves into an X-shaped structure resembling an edge-brightened bicone. HCN is detected in absorption against the continuum, and the absorption spectrum shows a pronounced blue wing that suggests a high-velocity molecular outflow with speeds reaching 450 km/s. Analysis of the off-nucleus emission line kinematics and morphology reveals two nested, rotating disk c…
Thioxoethenylidene (CCS) is an abundant interstellar molecule, and a good tracer of high density and evolutionary stage of dense molecular clouds. It is also a suitable candidate for Zeeman splitting observations for its high splitting factor and narrow thermal linewidths. We report here EVLA 22.3 GHz observations of three dense molecular cores TMC-1, TMC-1C and L1521B in the Taurus Molecular Cloud complex to image the CCS 2_1-1_0 transition. For all three sources, the clumpy CCS emission is most likely tracing the starless cores. However, these compact structures account for only ~ 1-13% of t…
We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of 99.02 GHz free-free and H40$α$ emission from the centre of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253. We calculate electron temperatures of 3700-4500 K for the photoionized gas, which agrees with previous measurements. We measure a photoionizing photon production rate of $(3.2\pm0.2)\times10^{53}$ s$^{-1}$ and a star formation rate of $1.73\pm0.12$ M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$ within the central 20$\times$10 arcsec, which fall within the broad range of measurements from previous millimetre and radio observations but which are better cons…
Methanol masers at 6.7 GHz are known to be tracers of high-mass star formation in our Galaxy. In this paper, we study the large scale physical conditions in the star forming clumps/cores associated with 6.7 GHz methanol masers using observations of the (1,1), (2,2) and (3,3) inversion transitions of ammonia with the Effelsberg telescope. The gas kinetic temperature is found to be higher than in infrared dark clouds, highlighting the relatively evolved nature of the maser sources. Other than a weak correlation between maser luminosity and the ammonia line width, we do not find any differences b…
We present further results of a search for extragalactic submillimeter H2O masers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). The detection of a 321 GHz H2O maser in the nearby Type 2 Seyfert galaxy, the Circinus galaxy, has previously been reported, and here the spectral analysis of four other galaxies is described. We have discovered H2O maser emission at 321 GHz toward the center of NGC 4945, a nearby Type 2 Seyfert. The maser emission shows Doppler-shifted velocity features with velocity ranges similar to those of the previously reported 22 GHz H2O masers, however the no…
The $ρ$ Oph molecular cloud is one of the best examples of spinning dust emission, first detected by the Cosmic Background Imager (CBI). Here we present 4.5 arcmin observations with CBI 2 that confirm 31 GHz emission from $ρ$ Oph W, the PDR exposed to B-type star HD 147889, and highlight the absence of signal from S1, the brightest IR nebula in the complex. In order to quantify an association with dust-related emission mechanisms, we calculated correlations at different angular resolutions between the 31 GHz map and proxies for the column density of IR emitters, dust radiance and optical depth…
We report on the presence of 6.7-GHz methanol masers, known tracers of high-mass star formation, in the 3-kpc arms of the inner Galaxy. We present 49 detections from the Methanol Multibeam Survey, the largest Galactic plane survey for 6.7-GHz methanol masers, which coincide in longitude, latitude and velocity with the recently discovered far-side 3-kpc arm and the well known near-side 3-kpc arm. The presence of these masers is significant evidence for high-mass star formation actively occurring in both 3-kpc arms.
We performed a radio recombination line (RRL) survey to construct a high-mass star-forming region (HMSFR) sample in the Milky Way based on the all-sky Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer ($\textit{All-WISE}$) point source catalog. The survey was observed with the Shanghai 65m Tianma radio telescope (TMRT) covering 10 hydrogen RRL transitions ranging from H98$α$ to H113$α$ (corresponding to the rest frequencies of 4.5$-$6.9 GHz) simultaneously. Out of 3348 selected targets, we identified an HMSFR sample consisting of 517 sources traced by RRLs, a large fraction of this sample (486) locate near …
Class I methanol masers are found to be good tracers of the interaction between outflows from massive young stellar objects with their surrounding media. Although polarization observations of Class II methanol masers have been able to provide information about magnetic fields close to the central (proto)stars, polarization observations of Class I methanol masers are rare, especially at 44 and 95 GHz. We present the results of linear polarization observations of 39 Class I methanol maser sources at 44 and 95 GHz. These two lines are observed simultaneously with one of the 21 m Korean VLBI Netwo…
Understanding how the Galactic magnetic field threads the multi-phase interstellar medium (ISM) remains a considerable challenge, as different magnetic field tracers probe dissimilar phases and field components. We search for evidence of a common magnetic field shared between the ionized and neutral ISM by comparing 1.4 GHz radio continuum polarization and HI line emission from the Galactic Arecibo L-Band Feed Array Continuum Transit Survey (GALFACTS) and Galactic Arecibo L-Band Feed Array HI (GALFA-HI) survey, respectively. We compute the polarization gradient of the continuum emission and se…
To understand the origin of water line emission and absorption during high-mass star formation, we decompose high-resolution Herschel-HIFI line spectra toward 19 high-mass star-forming regions into three distinct physical components. Protostellar envelopes are usually seen as narrow absorptions or emissions in the H2O 1113 and 1669 GHz ground-state lines, the H2O 987 GHz excited-state line, and the H2O-18 1102 GHz ground-state line. Broader features due to outflows are usually seen in absorption in the H2O 1113 and 1669 GHz lines, in 987 GHz emission, and not seen in H2O-18, indicating a low c…
We performed a systematic 6.7 GHz Class \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral2} methanol maser survey using the Shanghai Tianma Radio Telescope toward targets selected from the all-sky \emph{Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE)} point catalog. In this paper, we report the results from the survey of those at high Galactic latitudes, i.e. $|b|>$ 2$^\circ$. Of 1473 selected \emph{WISE} point sources at high latitude, 17 point positions that were actually associated with 12 sources were detected with maser emission, reflecting the rarity (1$-$2\%) of methanol masers in the region away from th…
We present 33 GHz imaging for 112 pointings towards galaxy nuclei and extranuclear star-forming regions at $\approx$2" resolution using the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) as part of the Star Formation in Radio Survey. A comparison with 33 GHz Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope single-dish observations indicates that the interferometric VLA observations recover $78\pm4 %$ of the total flux density over 25" regions ($\approx$ kpc-scales) among all fields. On these scales, the emission being resolved out is most likely diffuse non-thermal synchrotron emission. Consequently, on the $\appro…
Trends observed in galaxies, such as the Gao \& Solomon relation, suggest a linear relation between the star formation rate and the mass of dense gas available for star formation. Validation of such relations requires the establishment of reliable methods to trace the dense gas in galaxies. One frequent assumption is that the HCN ($J=1$--0) transition is unambiguously associated with gas at $\rm{}H_2$ densities $\gg{}10^4~\rm{}cm^{-3}$. If so, the mass of gas at densities $\gg{}10^4~\rm{}cm^{-3}$ could be inferred from the luminosity of this emission line, $L_{\rm{}HCN\,(1\text{--}0)}$. Here w…
We present interferometric observations of the CN 1-0 (113.491 GHz), N2H+ 1-0 (93.173 GHz), H(41)a (92.034 GHz), CH3CN (91.987 GHz), CS 3-2 (146.969 GHz), c-C3H2 3-2 (145.089 GHz), H2CO 2-1 (145.603 GHz) and HC3N 16-15 (145.601 GHz) lines towards M82, carried out with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI). PDR chemical modelling is used to interpret these observations. Our results show that the abundances of N2H+, CS and H13 CO+ remain quite constant across the galaxy confirming that these species are excellent tracers of the dense molecular gas. On the contrary, the abundance of CN i…
Modern radio telescopes are routinely reaching depths where normal starforming galaxies are the dominant observed population. Realising the potential of radio as a tracer of star formation and black hole activity over cosmic time involves achieving such depths over representative volumes, with radio forming part of a larger multiwavelength campaign. In pursuit of this we used the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) to image $\sim$5 deg$^{2}$ of the VIDEO/XMM-LSS extragalactic deep field at 1--2 GHz. We achieve a median depth of 16 $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$ with an angular resolution of 4.5\arcsec. C…
The present paper focuses on the high-mass star-forming region G16.59-0.05. Methods: Using the VLBA and the EVN arrays, we conducted phase-referenced observations of the three most powerful maser species in G16.59-0.05: H2O at 22.2 GHz (4 epochs), CH3OH at 6.7 GHz (3 epochs), and OH at 1.665 GHz (1 epoch). In addition, we performed high-resolution (> 0".1), high-sensitivity (< 0.1 mJy) VLA observations of the radio continuum emission from the star-forming region at 1.3 and 3.6 cm. Results: This is the first work to report accurate measurements of the "relative" proper motions of the 6.7 GHz CH…
Investigations of H$_2$O maser galaxies at X-ray energies reveal that most AGN associated with water masers are characterized by high levels of absorption. With the aim of finding new maser sources for possible interferometric follow-ups, we have searched for water maser emission in a well-defined sample of heavily absorbed AGN ($N_{\rm H} > 10^{23}$ cm$^{-2}$), including Compton-thick (CT) sources. All the galaxies in the sample were already searched for 22 GHz water maser emission in previous surveys. With the goal of providing a detection or a stringent upper limit on the H$_2$O luminosity,…
The high-frequency radio sky has historically remained largely unexplored due to the typical faintness of sources in this regime, and the modest survey speed compared to observations at lower frequencies. However, high-frequency radio surveys present an invaluable tracer of high-redshift star-formation, as they directly target the faint radio free-free emission. We present deep continuum observations at 34 GHz in the COSMOS and GOODS-North fields from the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), as part of the COLDz survey. The deep COSMOS mosaic spans $\sim10\text{arcmin}^2$ down to $σ=1.3μ\tex…
