We derive the conformal constraints satisfied by classical vertices of a (Einstein) Gauss-Bonnet theory around flat space, in general dimensions and at $d=4$ (4d EGB). In $4d$ EGB they are obtained by a singular limit of the integral of the Euler-Poincarè density. Our analysis exploits the relation between this theory and the conformal anomaly action, which allows to uncover some interesting features of the GB vertex at cubic and quartic level. If we introduce a conformal decomposition of the metric, the resulting theory can be formulated in two different versions, which are regularization dependent, a local one which is quartic in the dilaton field, and a nonlocal one, with a quadratic dilaton. The nonlocal version is derived by a finite redefinition of the GB density with the inclusion of a $(d-4)R^2$ correction, before performing the singular $d\to 4$ limit. In the local version of the theory, we show how the independent dynamics of the metric and of the dilaton are interwinded by a classical trace identity. Three-gravitational wave interactions can be organised in a nontrivial way by using directly the nonlocal 4d EGB version of the theory. This is possible thanks to the consistency of such formulation - only up to 3-point functions - directly inherited from the conformal anomaly (Riegert) action. The constraints satisfied by the vertices are classical, hierarchical Ward identities. At quartic level, similar relations are derived, borrowing from the analysis of the counterterms of the 4T correlators of the conformal anomaly action, as defined by a perturbative expansion. For $d\neq 4$ these constraints hold also for Lovelock actions. They can be extended to higher order topological invariants in such class of theories.
We study the black ring solution in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) theory at large $D$. By using the $1/D$ expansion in the near horizon region we derive the effective equations for the slowly rotating black holes in the EGB theory. The effective equations describe the non-linear dynamics of various stationary solutions, including the EGB black ring, the slowly rotating EGB black hole and the slowly boosted EGB black string. By different embeddings we construct these stationary solutions explicitly. By performing the perturbation analysis of the effective equations, we obtain the quasinormal …
In this work, we present the possible existence of thermal phase transition between AdS to dS asymptotic geometries in vacuum in the context of novel 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. The phase transition proceeds through the thermalon (the Euclidean sector of the bubble thin-shell) formation having a black hole inside the interior of dS spacetime and a thermal AdS spacetime in the exterior without introducing any matter field. According to our analysis, we find that the gravitational phase transitions using novel 4D EGB gravity always take place for all existences of the 4D EGB coupling…
We find the equations of motion of membranes dual to the black holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity to leading order in 1/D in the large D regime. We also find the metric solutions to the EGB equations to first subleading order in 1/D in terms of membrane variables. We propose a world volume stress tensor for the membrane whose conservation equations are equivalent to the leading order membrane equations. We also work out the light quasi-normal mode spectrum of static black holes in EGB gravity from the linearised fluctuations of static, round membranes. Also, the effective equations f…
Recent researches of the novel $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity have attracted great attention. In this paper, we investigate the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a novel $4D$ charged EGB black hole with test charged scalar field and test charged particle respectively. For the test charged field scattering process, we find that both extremal and near-extremal black holes cannot be overcharged. For the test charged particle injection, to first order, an extremal black hole cannot be overcharged while a near-extremal $4D$ charged EGB black hole can be destroyed. To s…
We propose a procedure for the $D\rightarrow 4$ limit of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity that leads to a well defined action principle in four dimensions. Our construction is based on compactifying $D$-dimensional EGB gravity on a $(D-4)$-dimensional maximally symmetric space followed by redefining the Gauss-Bonnet coupling $α\rightarrow \fracα{D-4}$. The resulting model is a special scalar-tensor theory that belongs to the family of Horndeski gravity. Static black hole solutions in the scalar-tensor theory are investigated. Interestingly, the metric profile is independent of the curvature…
Using a modified expression for the electric potential in the context of T-duality (Gaete and Nicolini, Phys. Lett. B, 2022) we obtain an exact charged solution within 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) theory of gravity in the presence of a cosmological constant. We show that the solution exists in the regularized 4D EGB theory as well and we point out a correspondence between the black hole solution in 4D EGB theory and the solution in the non-relativistic Horava--Lifshitz theory. The black hole solution is regular and free from singularity and as a special case we recover a class of well-kno…
The Einstein- Gauss- Bonnet (EGB) gravity is an important modification of the Einstein theory of gravity and, for many gravitational phenomena, the Gauss- Bonnet (GB) correction term leads to drastic differences. In this paper, we study gravitational collapse in the $5$-dimensional EGB theory. We construct the spherical marginally trapped surfaces and determine the evolution of marginally trapped surfaces when the infalling matter admits a wide variety of initial density distribution. We show that the location of black hole horizon depends crucially on the initial density and velocity profile …
We consider the action principles that are the lower dimensional limits of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity {\it via} the Kaluza-Klein route. We study the vacua and obtain some exact solutions. We find that the reality condition of the theories may select one vacuum over the other from the two vacua that typically arise in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We obtain exact black hole and cosmological solutions carrying scalar hair, including scalar hairy BTZ black holes with both mass and angular momentum turned on. We also discuss the holographic central charges in the asymptotic AdS backgrounds…
We obtain an exact solution of $AdS$ black hole solution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. It interpolates with the $AdS$ regular black hole and $AdS$ EGB black hole in the absence of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant and both magnetic monopole charge and deviation parameter, respectively. Based on horizon thermodynamics, we study the thermodynamic properties of the obtained solution (e.g. mass, temperature, entropy, heat capacity and free energy). The Hawking temperature of the nonsingular black hole gets the maximum value at the point where speci…
Recently it has been shown that the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity, by rescaling the coupling constant as $α/(D-4)$ and taking the limit $D \rightarrow 4$ at the level of the equations of motion, becomes nontrivially ghost-free in $4D$ - namely the novel $4D$ EGB gravity. We present an exact charged black hole solution to the theory surrounded by clouds of string (CS) and also analyze their thermodynamic properties to calculate exact expressions for the black hole mass, temperature, and entropy. Owing to the corrected black hole due to the background CS, the thermodynamic quantities have …
A (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet effective description of gravity has been recently formulated as the $D \to 4$ limit of the higher dimensional field equations after the rescaling of the coupling constant. This approach has been recently extended to the four-dimensional Einstein-Lovelock gravity. Although validity of the regularization procedure has not been shown for the general case, but only for a wide class of metrics, the black-hole solution obtained as a result of such a regularization is also an exact solution in the well defined 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory suggested by Aok…
Instead of the work \cite{1} which in according to the Lovelock theorem it could not applicable for all types of 4D curved spacetimes of Einstein Gauss Bonnet (EGB) gravity, authors of the work \cite{2} applied break of diffeomorphism property to present a consistent EGB gravity theory. In this work we use the latter model by adding a nonlinear electromagnetic field lagrangian density to study affects of GB coupling constant into the thermodynamic phase transition and Joule Thomson (JT) adiabatic expansion of a 4D $dS/AdS$ GB Bardeen black hole.
Recently, it has been supposed that the Einstein-Gauss- Bonnet theory coupled with scalar field (EGBS) maybe appropriately admit physically viable models of celestial phenomena such that the scalar field effect is active in standard four dimensions. We consider the spherically symmetric and static configuration of the compact star and explain the consequences of the EGBS theory in the frame of stellar modeling. In our formulation, for any given static profile of the energy density $ρ$ with the spherical symmetry and the arbitrary equation of state (EoS) of matter, we can construct the model wh…
In this paper we study the thermodynamics of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB)-AdS black holes minimally coupled to a cloud of strings in an extended phase space where the cosmological constant is treated as pressure of the black holes and its conjugate variable is the thermodynamical volume of the black holes. To investigate the analogy between EGB black holes surrounded by a cloud of strings and liquid-gas system we derive the analytical solutions of the critical points and probe the effects of a cloud of strings on $P-V$ criticality. There is obtained resemblance between "small black hole/large b…
The regularization procedure for getting the four-dimensional nontrivial Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet effective description of gravity and its Lovelock generalization has been recently developed. Here we propose the regularization for the three-dimensional gravity, which is based on the rescaling of the coupling constants and, afterward, taking the limit $D \to 3$. We obtain the generalization of the Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli solution in the presence of the higher curvature (Gauss-Bonnet and Lovelock) corrections of any order. The obtained general solution shows a peculiar behavior: The event horizo…
Recently, there has been a surge of interest in the 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity theory which bypasses the Lovelock theorem and avoids Ostrogradsky's instability. Such a novel theory has nontrivial dynamics and presents several predictions for cosmology and black hole physics. Motivated by recent astrophysical observations and the importance of anti-de Sitter spacetime, we investigate shadow geometrical shapes and deflection angle of light from the charged AdS black holes in 4D EGB gravity theory. We explore the shadow behaviors and photon sphere around such black holes, and inspe…
A $(m+ 3)$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravitational model including the Gauss-Bonnet term and the cosmological term $Λ$ is considered. Exact solutions with exponential time dependence of two scale factors, governed by two Hubble-like parameters $H >0$ and $h \neq H$, corresponding to factor spaces of dimensions $m >2$ and $l = 2$, respectively, are found. Under certain restrictions on $x = h/H $, the stability of the solutions in a class of cosmological solutions with diagonal metrics is proved. A subclass of solutions with small enough variation of the effective gravitational constant …
We examine the deSitter entropy in the braneworld model with the Gauss-Bonnet/Lovelock terms. Then, we can see that the deSitter entropy computed through the Euclidean action exactly coincides with the holographic entanglement entropy.
We study the bound on the compactness of a stellar object in pure Lovelock theories of arbitrary order in arbitrary spacetime dimensions, involving electromagnetic field. The bound we derive for a generic pure Lovelock theory, reproduces the known results in four dimensional Einstein gravity. Both the case of a charged shell and that of a charge sphere demonstrates that for a given spacetime dimension, stars in general relativity are more compact than the stars in pure Lovelock theories. In addition, as the strength of the Maxwell field increases, the stellar structures become more compact, i.…
Recently, a novel four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) theory was presented to bypass the Lovelock's theorem and to give nontrivial effects on the four-dimensional local gravity. The main mechanism is to introduce a redefinition $α\rightarrowα/(D-4)$ and to take the limit $D\rightarrow4$. However, this theory does not have standard four-dimensional field equations. Some regularization procedures are then proposed to address this problem [arXiv:2003.11552, arXiv:2003.12771, arXiv:2004.08362, arXiv:2004.09472, arXiv:2004.10716]. The resultant regularized four-dimensional EGB theory has t…
We study the holographic hydrodynamics in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet(EGB) gravity in the framework of the large $D$ expansion. We find that the large $D$ EGB equations can be interpreted as the hydrodynamic equations describing the conformal fluid. These fluid equations are truncated at the second order of the derivative expansion, similar to the Einstein gravity at large $D$. From the analysis of the fluid flows, we find that the fluid equations can be taken as a variant of the compressible version of the non-relativistic Navier-Stokes equations. Particularly, in the limit of small Mach number…
We study non-trivial (i.e. non-Levi-Civita) connections in metric-affine Lovelock theories. First we study the projective invariance of general Lovelock actions and show that all connections constructed by acting with a projective transformation of the Levi-Civita connection are allowed solutions, albeit physically equivalent to Levi-Civita. We then show that the (non-integrable) Weyl connection is also a solution for the specific case of the four-dimensional metric-affine Gauss-Bonnet action, for arbritrary vector fields. The existence of this solution is related to a two-vector family of tra…
An alternative theory of gravity that has attracted much attention recently is the novel four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity. The theory is rescaled by the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling constant $α\rightarrow α/(D - 4)$ in $ D $ dimensions and redefined as four-dimensional gravity in the limit $D \rightarrow 4$. Thus, in this manner, the GB term yields a non-trivial contribution to the gravitational dynamics. In fact, regularized black hole solutions and applications in the novel 4D EGB gravity have also been extensively explored. In this work, motivated by recent astrophysica…
In regularized 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity derived from a Kaluza-Klein reduction of higher-dimensional EGB theory, we study the existence and stability of black hole (BH) solutions on a static and spherically symmetric background. We show that asymptotically-flat hairy BH solutions realized for a spatially-flat maximally symmetric internal space are unstable against linear perturbations for any rescaled GB coupling constant. This instability is present for the angular propagation of even-parity perturbations both in the vicinity of an event horizon and at spatial infinity…
We systematically investigate the complete class of vacuum solutions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory which belong to the Kundt family of non-expanding, shear-free and twist-free geometries (without gyratonic matter terms) in any dimension. The field equations are explicitly derived and simplified, and their solutions classified into three distinct subfamilies. Algebraic structures of the Weyl and Ricci curvature tensors are determined. The corresponding curvature scalars directly enter the invariant form of equation of geodesic deviation, enabling us to understand the specific loca…
In this paper, we probe in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole and its thermodynamics. We illustrate the three asymptotically 4D EGB spacetime as an asymptotically flat, de Sitter, and Anti-de Sitter. Also, we apply the tunneling of the massless particles from the horizon of 4D EGB gravity and we investigate the correlation between the emission modes and temperature of the horizon. In asymptotically flat spacetime, the existence of the coupling constant alone constructs the regular spacetime, the radiation deviates from the pure thermal, and the temperature of the black hole horizon would be z…
Inspired by string theory, Heisenberg's uncertainty principle can be generalized to include the photon-electron gravitational interaction, which leads to the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). Although GUP considers gravitational uncertainty at the minimum fundamental length scale in physics, it does not consider the effects of spacetime curvature on quantum mechanical uncertainty relations. The Extended Uncertainty Principle (EUP) is a generalization of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle that, unlike the GUP, applies to large length scales. GEUP is also a linear combination of EUP and G…
We investigate the gravitational backreaction, generated by coupling a general conformal sector to external, classical gravity, as described by a conformal anomaly effective action. We address the issues raised by the regularization of the topological Gauss-Bonnet and Weyl terms in these actions and the use of dimensional regularization (DR). We discuss both their local and nonlocal expressions, as possible IR and UV descriptions of conformal theories, below and above the conformal breaking scale. Our discussion overlaps with several recent studies of dilaton gravities - obtained via a certain…
本文建立了拉格朗日密度为$\mathscr{L}_{\text{LBD}}=\frac{1}{16π}\left[ϕ\left( R +\frac{a}{\sqrt{-g}}{}^*RR + b\mathcal{G}\right)-\frac{ω_{\text{L}}}ϕ\nabla_αϕ\nabla^αϕ\right]$的替代引力LBD模型,其中${}^*RR$和$\mathcal{G}$分别表示拓扑Chern-Pontryagin和Gauss-Bonnet不变量。
There has recently been an increasing interest in regularizations of Lovelock-Lanczos gravity (LLG) in four dimensions, in which dimensional poles and possibly counter-terms are introduced to compensate the vanishing of the Lovelock field equations in critical and lower dimensions. In this paper, we review and extend some of these results. We first find a class of LLG theories whose perturbative expansion around a given (A)dS vacuum can be regularized up to arbitrary order, the simplest one being close to Lovelock gravities with a unique vacuum. If well-defined, these models might be interpret…

According to the Lovelock theorem where the model \cite{Glav} could not applicable for Einstein Gauss Bonnet (EGB) gravity in all 4D curved spacetimes, authors of the reference \cite{ali} presented an effective model by applying break of diffeomorphism property. Hence we use the latter model instead of former for study of thermodynamic behavior of a 4D AdS EGB spherically symmetric static black hole which surrounded with a cloud of string. In short our work is extension of the works given by \cite{Veer,Heg} but not by using \cite{Glav} but by applying \cite{ali}. Our metric solutions are obtai…
It has recently been argued that there may be a nontrivial four-dimensional limit of the higher-dimensional Gauss--Bonnet and Lovelock interactions and that this might provide a loophole allowing for new four-dimensional gravitational theories, possibly without a standard Lagrangian. We investigate this claim by studying tree-level graviton scattering amplitudes, allowing us to draw conclusions independently of the Lagrangian. By taking four-dimensional limits of higher-dimensional scattering amplitudes of the Gauss--Bonnet theory, we find four-dimensional amplitudes that are different from ge…
In this paper we construct new exact solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet and Lovelock gravity, describing asymptotically flat black strings. The solutions exist also under the inclusion of a cosmological term in the action, and are supported by scalar fields with finite energy density, which are linear along the extended direction and have kinetic terms constructed out from Lovelock tensors. The divergenceless nature of the Lovelock tensors in the kinetic terms ensures that the whole theory is second order. For spherically, hyperbolic and planar symmetric spacetimes on the string, we obtain an …
Codimension Two Branes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity
By looking at the Lovelock theorem one can infer that the gravity model given by \cite{GL} could not applicable for all type of 4D Einstein Gauss Bonnet (GB) curved spacetimes. Because in 4D space time the Gauss-Bonnet invariant is a total derivative, and hence it does not contribute to the gravitational dynamics. Hence, authors in the work \cite{AL} presented an alternative consistent EGB gravity model instead of \cite{GL} by applying break of diffeomorphism property. In this work we use it to produce a dS/AdS black hole metric and then investigate its thermodynamic behavior in presence of cl…
A $(3+1)$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity has been recently formulated in [D. Glavan and C. Lin, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 124}, 081301 (2020)] which is different from the pure Einstein theory, i.e., bypasses the Lovelock's theorem and avoids Ostrogradsky instability. The theory was formulated in $D > 4$ dimensions and its action consists of the Einstein-Hilbert term with a cosmological constant, while the Gauss-Bonnet term multiplied by a factor $1/(D-4)$. Then, the four-dimensional theory is defined as the limit $D \to 4$. Here we generalize this approach to the four-dimensio…
