We present a new asymptotically flat black hole solution in null aether theory (NAT) by applying Newman-Janis process. For this purpose, we study the asymptotically flat NAT black hole solution in Newman-Janis algorithm and then compute the tunneling radiation for NAT black hole. The Hawking temperature for NAT black hole depends upon the rotation parameter and charge of the black hole. The Hawking temperature describes a black hole with extremal event horizon. Furthermore, we analyze the graphical interpretation of Hawking temperature w.r.t event horizon and check the stability of black hole under the influence of different parameters associated with black hole temperature.
It's shown that the rotating dilaton-axion black hole solution can be obtained from GGHS static charged dilaton black hole solution via Newman-Janis method.
In this thesis, we explore the subject of complex spacetimes, in which the mathematical theory of complex manifolds gets modified for application to General Relativity. We will also explore the mysterious Newman-Janis trick, which is an elementary and quite short method to obtain the Kerr black hole from the Schwarzschild black hole through the use of complex variables. This exposition will cover variations of the Newman-Janis trick, partial explanations, as well as original contributions
The Newman-Janis trick is a procedure, (not even really an ansatz), for obtaining the Kerr spacetime from the Schwarzschild spacetime. This 50 year old trick continues to generate heated discussion and debate even to this day. Most of the debate focusses on whether the Newman-Janis procedure can be upgraded to the status of an algorithm, or even an inspired ansatz, or is it just a random trick of no deep physical significance. (That the Newman-Janis procedure very quickly led to the discovery of the Kerr-Newman spacetime is a point very much in its favour.) In the current article we will not a…
After the original discovery of the Kerr metric, Newman and Janis showed that this solution could be ``derived'' by making an elementary complex transformation to the Schwarzschild solution. The same method was then used to obtain a new stationary axisymmetric solution to Einstein's field equations now known as the Kerr-newman metric, representing a rotating massive charged black hole. However no clear reason has ever been given as to why the Newman-Janis algorithm works, many physicist considering it to be an ad hoc procedure or ``fluke'' and not worthy of further investigation. Contrary to t…
The purpose of the present article is to show that the Newman-Janis and Newman et al algorithm used to derive the Kerr and Kerr-Newman metrics respectively, automatically leads to the extension of the initial non negative polar radial coordinate r to a cartesian coordinate r' running from -\infty to +\infty, thus introducing in a natural way the region -\infty < r' < 0 in the above spacetimes. Using Boyer-Lindquist and ellipsoidal coordinates, we discuss some geometrical aspects of the positive and negative regions of r', like horizons, ergosurfaces, and foliation structures.
The strong gravitational field near massive blackhole is an interesting regime to test General Relativity(GR) and modified gravity theories. The knowledge of spacetime metric around a blackhole is a primary step for such tests. Solving field equations for rotating blackhole is extremely challenging task for the most modified gravity theories. Though the derivation of Kerr metric of GR is also demanding job, the magical Newmann-Janis algorithm does it without actually solving Einstein equation for rotating blackhole. Due to this notable success of Newmann-Janis algorithm in the case of Kerr met…
We show that the well-known most general static and spherically symmetric exact solution to the Einstein-massless scalar equations given by Wyman is the same as one found by Janis, Newman and Winicour several years ago. We obtain the energy associated with this spacetime and find that the total energy for the case of the purely scalar field is zero.
In this work, starting from a spherically symmetric polytropic black hole, a rotating solution is obtained by following the Newman--Janis algorithm without complexification. Besides studying the horizon, the static conditions and causality issues of the rotating solution, we obtain and discuss the shape of its shadow. Some other physical features as the Hawking temperature and emission rate of the rotating polytropic black hole solution are also discussed.
The Janis-Newman algorithm is an old but very powerful tool to generate rotating solutions from static ones through a set of complex coordinate transformations. Several solutions have been derived in this way, including solutions with gauge fields. However, the transformation of the latter was so far always postulated as an ad hoc result. In this paper we propose a generalization of the procedure, extending it to the transformation of the gauge field. We also present a simplification of the algorithm due to G. Giampieri. We illustrate our prescription on the Kerr-Newman solution.
The Newman-Janis Ansatz was used first to obtain the stationary Kerr metric from the static Schwarzschild metric. Many works have been devoted to investigate the physical significance of this Ansatz, but no definite answer has been given so far. We show that this Ansatz can be applied in general to conformastatic vacuum metrics, and leads to stationary generalizations which, however, do not preserve the conformal symmetry. We investigate also the particular case when the seed solution is given by the Schwarzschild spacetime and show that the resulting rotating configuration does not correspond…
A central problem in General Relativity is obtaining a solution to describe the source's interior counterpart for Kerr black hole. Besides, determining a method to match the interior and exterior solutions through a surface free of predefined coordinates remains an open problem. In this work, we present the ansatz formulated by Newman-Janis to generate solutions to the Einstein field equation inspired by the mentioned problems. We present a collection of independent classes of exact interior solutions of the Einstein equation describing rotating fluids with anisotropic pressures. Furthermore, …
In the present paper we study the geodesic structure of the Janis-Newman-Winicour(JNW) space-time which contains a strong curvature naked singularity. This metric is an extension of the Schwarzschild geometry when a massless scalar field is included. We find that the strength parameter $μ$ of the scalar field effects on the geodesic structure of the JNW space-time. By solving the geodesic equation and analyzing the behavior of effective potential, we investigate all geodesic types of the test particle and the photon in the JNW space-time. At the same time we simulate all the geodesic orbits co…
In this paper, we construct the rotating Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) naked singularity spacetime using Newman-Janis Algorithm (NJA). We analyse NJA with and without complexification methods and find that the energy conditions do satisfied when we skip the complexification step. We study the shadows cast by rotating JNW naked singularity and compare them with the shadows cast by the Kerr black hole. We find that the shadow of the rotating naked singularity can be distinguished from the shadow of the Kerr black hole. While we analyse the precession of timelike bound orbits in rotating JNW spacet…
In general, energy extraction methods such as the Penrose process and the magnetic Penrose process are thought to be reliant on the existence of an ergoregion. Inside an ergoregion, there are negative energy states that allow a particle to extract energy and escape to an observer at infinity. In this paper, we considered the electromagnetic field in the rotating Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) spacetime. This concept is feasible because an accretion disc forms an electromagnetic field around compact objects. After that, we briefly examine negative energy orbits and their significance in energy ext…
In this paper we present a class of metrics to be considered as new possible sources for the Kerr metric. These new solutions are generated by applying the Newman-Janis algorithm (NJA) to any static spherically symmetric (SSS) ``seed'' metric. The continuity conditions for joining any two of these new metrics is presented. A specific analysis of the joining of interior solutions to the Kerr exterior is made. The boundary conditions used are those first developed by Dormois and Israel. We find that the NJA can be used to generate new physically allowable interior solutions. These new solutions …
Drake and Szekeres have extended the Newman-Janis algorithm to produce stationary axisymmetric spacetimes from general static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations. The algorithm mathematically generates an energy-momentum tensor for the rotating solution, but the rotating and nonrotating system may or may not represent the same physical system, in the sense of both being a perfect fluid, or an electromagnetic field, or a $Λ$-term, and so on. In Part I (arxiv:2104.02255), we compared the structure of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the rotating and nonrotating energy-mo…
A REDUCE code for the Newman-Janis algorithm is described. This algorithm is intended to include rotation into nonrotating solutions of the Einstein field equations with spherically symmetry or perturbed spherically symmetry and has been successfully applied to many spacetimes. The applicability of the code is restricted to metrics containing potentials of the form 1/r.
Obtaining solutions of the Einstein field equations describing spinning compact bodies is typically challenging. The Newman-Janis algorithm provides a procedure to obtain rotating spacetimes from a static, spherically symmetric, seed metric. It is not guaranteed, however, that the resulting rotating spacetime solves the same field equations as the seed. Moreover, the former may not be circular, and thus expressible in Boyer-Lindquist-like coordinates. Amongst the variations of the original procedure, a modified Newman-Janis algorithm (MNJA) has been proposed that, by construction, originates a…
The Newman-Janis algorithm has been widely used to construct rotating black hole solutions from non-rotating counterparts. While this algorithm was developed within General Relativity, it has more recently been applied to non-rotating solutions in modified gravity theories. We find that the application of the Newman-Janis algorithm to an arbitrary non-GR spherically-symmetric solution introduces pathologies in the resulting axially-symmetric metric. This then establishes that, in general, the Newman-Janis algorithm should not used to construct rotating black hole solutions outside of General R…
We consider the regular black holes solution with cosmic strings(RBHCS) in the rotation parameter by assuming the Newman-Janis method. After this, we study thermodynamical property (i.e., Hawking temperature $T_H$) for the RBHCS in the presence of spin parameter. Moreover, we study the graphical interpretation of Hawking temperature with event horizon to check the physical and stable form of RBHCS under the effect of Newman-Janis algorithm. We graphically show that the RBHCS in the context of Newman-Janis algorithm are colder than the Schwarzschild black hole. Furthermore, we investigate the q…
The Newman-Janis algorithm and its generalizations can be used mathematically to generate rotating solutions from nonrotating spherically-symmetric solutions within general relativity. The energy-momentum tensors of these solutions may or may not represent the same physical system, in the sense of both being a perfect fluid, or an electromagnetic field, or a $Λ$-term, and so on. In a series of two papers, we compare the structure of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the rotating and nonrotating energy-momentum tensors (their Segre types) and look for the existence of equations of state relat…
The Newman-Janis algorithm is well known to provide rotating black holes solutions to Einstein's equations from static seeds, through a complexification of a radial and a time coordinates. However, an ambiguity remains for the replacement of the $r^{-1}$ and $r^{-2}$ powers of the radial coordinate. We show here that the two cases are unified by a simple expression which allows its extension to the $r^{2}$ power, characteristic of the de Sitter ($dS$) and anti de Sitter ($AdS$) spacetimes. The formula leads almost automatically to the Kerr and Kerr-Newman-$dS$ and -$AdS$ metrics.
The Janis-Newman algorithm has been shown to be successful in finding new sta- tionary solutions of four-dimensional gravity. Attempts for a generalization to higher dimensions have already been found for the restricted cases with only one angular mo- mentum. In this paper we propose an extension of this algorithm to five dimensions with two angular momenta - using the prescription of G. Giampieri - through two specific examples, that are the Myers-Perry and BMPV black holes. We also discuss possible enlargements of our prescriptions to other dimensions and maximal number of angular momenta, a…
In this review we present the most general form of the Janis--Newman algorithm. This extension allows to generate configurations which contain all bosonic fields with spin less than or equal to two (real and complex scalar fields, gauge fields, metric field) and with five of the six parameters of the Plebański-Demiański metric (mass, electric charge, magnetic charge, NUT charge and angular momentum). Several examples are included to illustrate the algorithm. We also discuss the extension of the algorithm to other dimensions.
We present a simple approach for obtaining Kerr interior solutions with the help of the Newman-Janis algorithm (NJA) starting with static space-times describing physically sensible interior Schwarzschild solutions. In this context, the Darmois-Israel (DI) junction conditions are analyzed. Starting from the incompressible Schwarzschild solution, a class of Kerr interior solutions is presented, together with a discussion of the slowly rotating limit. The energy conditions are discussed for the solutions so obtained. Finally, the NJA algorithm is applied to the static, anisotropic, conformally fl…
In the case of vanishing cosmological constant, Demiański has shown that the Janis-Newman algorithm can be generalized in order to include a NUT charge and another parameter $c$, in addition to the angular momentum. Moreover it was proved that only a NUT charge can be added for non-vanishing cosmological constant. However despite the fact that the form of the coordinate transformations was obtained, it was not explained how to perform the complexification on the metric function, and the procedure does not follow directly from the usual Janis-Newman rules. The goal of our paper is threefold: ex…
We present an original approach to compute the electromagnetic self-force acting on a static charge in Kerr spacetime. Our approach is based on an improved version of the Janis-Newman algorithm and extends its range of applicability. It leads to a closed expression which generalizes the existing one and, since it does not involve the electromagnetic potential, it simplifies the calculation of the self-force.
We study the optical appearance and the apparent radiation flux of a thin accretion disk around the static Janis-Newman-Winicour naked singularity. We confine ourselves to the astrophysically most relevant case, when the solution possesses a photon sphere, assuming that the radiation emitted by the disk is described by the Novikov-Thorne model. The observable images resemble closely the visual appearance of the Schwarzschild black hole, as only quantitative differences are present. For the Janis-Newman-Winicour solution the accretion disk appears smaller, and its emission is characterized by a…
We study here circular timelike geodesics in the Janis-Newman-Winicour and Gamma metric spacetimes which contain a strong curvature naked singularity and reduce to the Schwarzschild metric for a specific value of one of the parameters. We show that for both the metrics the range of allowed parameters can be divided into three regimes where structure of the circular geodesics is qualitatively different. It follows that the properties of the accretion disks around such naked singularities can be significantly different from those of disks around black holes. This adds to previous studies showing…
The Newman-Janis algorithm is supplemented with a null rotation and applied to the tensors of the Reissner-Nordström spacetime to generate the metric, Maxwell, Ricci and Weyl tensors for the Kerr-Newman spacetime. This procedure also provides a mechanism whereby the Carter Killing tensor arises from the geodesic angular momentum tensor of the underlying Reissner-Nordström metric. The conformal Killing tensor in the Kerr-Newman spacetime is generated in a similar fashion. The extended algorithm is also applied to the Killing vectors of the Reissner-Nordström spacetime with interesting consequen…
Inspired by the recent proposal for the quantum effective dynamics of the Schwarzschild spacetime given in \cite{AOS1}, we investigate the effective dynamics of the loop quantized Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) spacetime which is an extension of the Schwarzschild spacetime with an extra minimally coupled massless scalar field. Two parameters are introduced in order to regularize the Hamiltonian constraint in the quantum effective dynamics. These two parameters are assumed to be Dirac observables when the effective dynamics is solved. By carefully choosing appropriate conditions for these two para…
A new metric is obtained by applying a complex coordinate trans- formation to the static metric of the self-gravitating Born-Infeld monopole. The behaviour of the new metric is typical of a rotating charged source, but this source is not a spherically symmetric Born-Infeld monopole with rotation. We show that the structure of the energy-momentum tensor obtained with this new metric does not correspond to the typical structure of the energy momentum tensor of Einstein-Born-Infeld theory induced by a rotating spherically symmetric source. This also show, that the complex coordinate transformatio…
The Newman-Janis (NJ) algorithm has been extensively used in the literature to generate rotating black hole solutions from nonrotating seed spacetimes. In this work, we show, using various constants of motion, that the null geodesic equations in an arbitrary stationary and axially symmetric rotating spacetime obtained through the NJ algorithm can be separated completely, provided that the algorithm is applied successfully without any inconsistency. Using the separated null geodesic equations, we then obtain an analytic general formula for obtaining the contour of a shadow cast by a compact obj…
In this paper, we analyze the rotating Einstein-non-linear-Maxwell-Yukawa black hole solution by Janis-Newman algorithmic rule and complex calculations. We investigate the basic properties (i.e., Hawking radiation) for the corresponding black hole solution. From the horizon structure of the black hole, we discuss the graphical behavior of Hawking temperature $T_H$ and analyze the effects of spin parameter (appears due to Newman-Janis approach) on the $T_H$ of black hole. Furthermore, we investigate the corrected temperature for rotating Einstein-non-linear-Maxwell-Yukawa black hole by using th…
We investigate the timelike geodesics and the periapsis precession of orbits in the Fisher-Janis-Newman-Winicour-Wyman spacetime. This spacetime represents the naked singularity spacetime in the Einstein-massless scalar system. We revisit the results in the previous studies and relax the assumptions about the eccentricity of a bound orbit and the size of a semilatus. We find that the negative periapsis precession occurs when the spacetime sufficiently deviates from the Schwarzschild spacetime. In particular, for the small eccentric orbits, we show the negative periapsis precession occurs for $…
In the literature, the Newman-Janis algorithm (NJA) has been widely used to construct stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes to describe rotating black holes. In addition, it has been recently shown that the general stationary and axisymmetric spacetime generated through NJA allows the complete separability of the null geodesic equations. In fact, the Hamilton-Jacobi equation in this spacetime is also separable if one of the metric functions is additively separable. In this work, we further study the conditions for a separable Klein-Gordon equation in such a general spacetime. The relations be…

The final fate of gravitational collapse of massive stars has been a subject of interest for a long time since such a collapse may lead to black holes and naked singularities alike. Since, the formation of naked singularities is forbidden by the cosmic censorship conjecture, exploring their observational differences from black holes may be a possible avenue to search for these exotic objects. The simplest possible naked singularity spacetime emerges from the Einstein massless scalar field theory with the advantage that it smoothly translates to the Schwarzschild solution by the variation of th…
It is commonly thought that the final product of gravitational collapse is a black hole. Nevertheless, theoretical studies have not yet provided a final answer to the question whether black holes are the only possible outcome or whether naked singularities are also allowed. Observational tests may thus represent a complementary approach. In the present paper, we consider the Janis-Newman-Winicour metric, which describes a rotating source with a surface-like naked singularity. We calculate iron line shapes in the reflection spectrum of a putative disk around a Janis-Newman-Winicour singularity …
We examine here the acceleration of particles and high energy collisions in the the Janis-Newman- Winicour (JNW) spacetime, which is an extension of the Schwarzschild geometry when a massless scalar field is included. We show that while the center of mass energy of collisions of particles near the event horizon of a blackhole is not significantly larger than the rest mass of the interacting particles, in an analogous situation, it could be arbitrarily large in the JNWspacetime near the naked singularity. The high energy collisions are seen to be generic in the presence of a photon sphere in th…
In this paper, by applying Newman-Janis algorithm in spherical symmetric metrics, a class of embedded rotating solutions of field equations is presented. These solutions admit non-perfect fluids
We derive an exact radiating Kerr-Newman like black hole solution, with constant curvature $R=R_0$ imposed, to {\it metric} $f(R)$ gravity via complex transformations suggested by Newman-Janis. This generates a geometry which is precisely that of radiating Kerr-Newman-de Sitter / anti-de Sitter with the $f(R)$ gravity contributing an $R_0$ cosmological-like term. The structure of three horizon-like surfaces, {\it viz.} timelike limit surface, apparent horizon and event horizon, are determined. We demonstrate the existence of an additional cosmological horizon, in $f(R)$ gravity model, apart fr…
