We study spin effects in the neutrino gravitational scattering by a supermassive black hole with a magnetized accretion disk having a finite thickness. We exactly describe the propagation of ultrarelativistic neutrinos on null geodesics and solve the spin precession equation along each neutrino trajectory. The interaction of neutrinos with the magnetic field is owing to the nonzero diagonal magnetic moment. Additionally, neutrinos interact with plasma of the accretion disk electroweakly within the Fermi approximation. These interactions are obtained to change the polarization of incoming neutrinos, which are left particles. The fluxes of scattered neutrinos, proportional to the survival probability of spin oscillations, are derived for various parameters of the system. In particular, we are focused on the matter influence on the outgoing neutrinos flux. The possibility to observe the predicted effects for astrophysical neutrinos is briefly discussed.
Recently, the CDF collaboration reported a new measurement of the $W$ boson mass $M_W = 80.4335 \pm 0.0094$ GeV, which shows a $\sim 7σ$ deviation from the standard model prediction $80.3545 \pm 0.0057$ GeV obtained by the electroweak (EW) global fit. This deviation can be explained by new physics generating moderate EW oblique parameters $S$, $T$, and $U$. In this work, we use the loop corrections induced by some extra EW multiplets to explain the CDF $M_W$ anomaly. The lightest neutral particle in the multiplets can also serve as a candidate of cold dark matter (DM). We consider two such mod…
We study electroweakly interacting particles in rotating matter. The existence of the electric current along the axis of the matter rotation is predicted in this system. This new galvano-rotational effect is caused by the parity violating interaction between massless charged particles in the rotating matter. We start with the exact solution of the Dirac equation for a fermion involved in the electroweak interaction in the rotating frame. This equation includes the noninertial effects. Then, using the obtained solution, we derive the induced electric current which turns out to flow along the ro…
We perform a systematic study of stationary sphaleron-antisphaleron systems of Weinberg-Salam theory at the physical value of the weak mixing angle. These systems include rotating sphaleron-antisphaleron pairs, chains and vortex rings. We show that the angular momentum of these solutions is proportional to their electric charge. We study the dependence of their energy and magnetic moment on their angular momentum. We also investigate the influence of their angular momentum on their local properties, in particular on their energy density and on the node structure of their Higgs field configurat…
We study chiral fermions electroweakly interacting with a background matter having the nonuniform density and the velocity arbitrarily depending on coordinates. The dynamics of this system is described approximately by finding the Berry phase. The effective action and the kinetic equations for right and left particles are derived. In the case of a rotating matter, we obtain the correction to the anomalous electric current and to the Adler anomaly. Then we study some astrophysical applications. Assuming that the chiral imbalance in a rotating neutron star vanishes, we obtain the rate of the mag…
Accounting for the double-logarithmic (DL) contributions to amplitude of Z to f \bar{f} leads to the Sudakov suppression. In contrast, resumming DL contributions to amplitudes of W to f \bar{f}' results into an exponential with a positive exponent, i.e. into the enhancement. This effect is intrinsic property of the theories with non-Abelian gauge groups.
We discuss the recent derivation of the three-loop ${\cal O}(αα_s)$ contribution to the Higgs boson production cross section via gluon fusion arising from diagrams with light quarks, using an effective theory approach. We show results for the updated prediction of this process accounting for all the new theoretical calculations and the newest MSTW PDFs.
The hierarchy between the electroweak and Planck scales can be reduced when the extra dimensions are compactified with large volume or with warped geometry, resulting in the fundamental scale of the order of TeV. In such a scenario, one can experimentally study the physics above the Planck scale. We discuss black hole/ring production at future colliders.
We address the problem of accounting for light neutrino masses in theories with dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. We discuss this in the context of a class of (extended) technicolor (ETC) models and analyze the full set of Dirac and Majorana masses that arise in such theories. As a possible solution, we propose a combination of suppressed Dirac masses and a seesaw involving dynamically generated $|ΔL|=2$ condensates of standard-model singlet, ETC-nonsinglet fermions. We show how this can be realized in an explicit ETC model. An important feature of this proposal is that, because of the …
We determine the four Fermi effective theory of neutrino interactions within the Standard Model including one-loop electroweak radiative corrections, in combination with the measured muon lifetime and precision electroweak data. Including two-loop matching and three-loop running corrections, we determine lepton coefficients accounting for all large logarithms through relative order $\cal{O}(αα_s)$ and quark coefficients accounting for all large logarithms through ${\cal{O}}(α)$. We present four-fermion coefficients valid in $n_f=3$ and $n_f=4$ flavor quark theories, as well as in the extreme l…
Accounting for double-logarithmic contributions to high-energy (>> 100 GeV) e^+ e^- annihilation into a quark or a lepton pair in the kinematics where the final particles are colinear to the e^+e^- beams leading to a sizable difference between the forward and backward scattering amplitudes, i.e. to the forward-backward asymmetry. When the annihilation is accompanied by emission of n electroweak bosons in the multi-Regge kinematics, it turns out that the cross sections of the photon and Z production have the identical energy dependence and asymptotically their ratio depends only on the Weinberg…
The description of physical processes in accelerated frames opens a window to numerous new phenomena. One can encounter these effects both in the subatomic world and on a macroscale. In the present work we review our recent results on the study of the electroweak interaction of particles with an accelerated background matter. In our analysis we choose the noninertial comoving frame, where matter is at rest. Our study is based on the solution of the Dirac equation, which exactly takes into account both the interaction with matter and the nonintertial effects. First, we study the interaction of …
We study the evolution of the neutrinos system in rotating matter. Neutrinos are supposed to be mixed massive particles interacting with background fermions by means of the electroweak forces. First we find the solutions of wave equations for the neutrino mass eigenstates in matter. Then we study the behavior of neutrino flavor eigenstates in background matter. The problems of neutrino bound states and neutrino flavor oscillations are discussed. We also derive the analog of the quantum mechanical evolution equation for the system of two flavor neutrinos in rotating matter and analyze its solut…
Current measurements of Standard Model parameters suggest that the electroweak vacuum is metastable. This metastability has important cosmological implications, because large fluctuations in the Higgs field could trigger vacuum decay in the early universe. For the false vacuum to survive, interactions which stabilize the Higgs during inflation -- e.g., inflaton-Higgs interactions or non-minimal couplings to gravity -- are typically necessary. However, the post-inflationary preheating dynamics of these same interactions could also trigger vacuum decay, thereby recreating the problem we sought t…
We propose the mean field dynamo model for the generation of strongest magnetic fields, $B\sim 10^{15}\,{\rm G}$, in a neutron star (NS) accounting for the chiral magnetic effect (CME) driven by the shock in a supernova (SN) progenitor of that NS. The temperature jump at a narrow shock front, where an initial magnetic field existing in inflowing matter rises sharply, is the source of the CME that prevails significantly the erasure of the CME due to the spin-flip through Coulomb collisions in plasma. The growth of the magnetic field just behind the shock given by the instability term $\nabla\ti…
We derive the electroweak (EW) collinear splitting functions for the Standard Model, including the massive fermions, gauge bosons and the Higgs boson. We first present the splitting functions in the limit of unbroken SU(2)xU(1) and discuss their general features in the collinear and soft-collinear regimes. We then systematically incorporate EW symmetry breaking (EWSB), which leads to the emergence of additional "ultra-collinear" splitting phenomena and naive violations of the Goldstone-boson Equivalence Theorem. We suggest a particularly convenient choice of non-covariant gauge (dubbed "Goldst…
A la Pontecorvo when one defines electroweak flavour states of neutrinos as a linear superposition of mass eigenstates one ignores the associated spin. If, however, there is a significant rotation between the neutrino source, and the detector, a negative helicity state emitted by the former acquires a non-zero probability amplitude to be perceived as a positive helicity state by the latter. Both of these states are still in the left-Weyl sector of the Lorentz group. The electroweak interaction cross sections for such helicity-flipped states are suppressed by a factor of $(m_ν/E_ν)^2$, where $m…
Recently the new model for the generation of strong large scale magnetic fields in neutron stars, driven by the parity violating interaction, was proposed. In this model, the magnetic field instability results from the modification of the chiral magnetic effect in presence of the electroweak interaction between ultrarelativistic electrons and nucleons. In the present work we study how a nonzero mass of charged particles, which are degenerate relativistic electrons and nonrelativistic protons, influences the generation of the magnetic field in frames of this approach. For this purpose we calcul…
The Higgs naturalness problem is solved if the growth of Einstein's gravitational interaction is softened at an energy $ \lesssim 10^{11}\,$GeV (softened gravity). We work here within an explicit realization where the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian is extended to include terms quadratic in the curvature and a non-minimal coupling with the Higgs. We show that this solution is preserved by adding three right-handed neutrinos with masses below the electroweak scale, accounting for neutrino oscillations, dark matter and the baryon asymmetry. The smallness of the right-handed neutrino masses (compared…
We study the evolution of magnetic fields in turbulent hot plasma of the early Universe accounting for the chiral magnetic effect. The magnetohydrodynamic turbulence is modeled by replacing the matter velocity in the advection term in the Faraday equation with the Lorentz force. The system of the kinetic equations for the spectra of the densities of the magnetic helicity and the magnetic energy, as well as for the chiral imbalance, is derived. The amplification of the magnetic field is shown to result from the presence of the chiral magnetic effect solely. The system of the kinetic equations i…
We predict a new mechanism for the spin light of neutrino ($SLν$) that can be emitted by a neutrino moving in gravitational fields. This effect is studied on the basis of the quasiclassical equation for the neutrino spin evolution in a gravitational field. It is shown that the gravitational field of a rotating object, in the weak-field limit, can be considered as an axial vector external field which induces the neutrino spin procession. The corresponding probability of the neutrino spin oscillations in the gravitational field has been derived for the first time. The considered in this paper $S…
We study oscillations of Dirac neutrinos in background matter and a plane electromagnetic wave. First, we find the new exact solution of the Dirac-Pauli equation for a massive neutrino with the anomalous magnetic moment electroweakly interacting with matter under the influence of a plane electromagnetic wave with the circular polarization. We use this result to describe neutrino spin oscillations in the external fields in question. Then we consider several neutrino flavors and study neutrino spin-flavor oscillations in this system. For this purpose we formulate the initial condition problem an…
We study the evolution of random hypermagnetic fields (HMFs) in the symmetric phase of the early universe before the electroweak phase transition. The behavior of HMFs is driven by the analog of the chiral magnetic effect accounting for the asymmetries of leptons and Higgs bosons. These asymmetries are also dynamical variables of the model and evolve together with HMFs. Moreover, we account for the contribution of the hyper-MHD turbulence in the effective diffusion coefficient and the $α$-dynamo parameter. The realistic spectrum of seed HMFs consists of two branches: Batchelor and Kolmogorov o…
