Many theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics predict the existence of axionlike particles (ALPs) that mix with photons in the presence of a magnetic field. Searching for the effects of ALP-photon mixing in gamma-ray observations of blazars has provided some of the strongest constraints on ALP parameter space so far. Previously, only individual sources have been analysed. We perform a combined analysis on $\textit{Fermi}$ Large Area Telescope data of three bright, flaring flat-spectrum radio quasars, with the blazar jets themselves as the dominant mixing region. For the first time, we include a full treatment of photon-photon dispersion within the jet, and account for the uncertainty in our B-field model by leaving the field strength free in the fitting. Overall, we find no evidence for ALPs, but are able to exclude the ALP parameters $m_a\lesssim200$ neV and $g_{aγ}\gtrsim 5 \times 10^{-12}$ GeV$^{-1}$ with 95\% confidence.
Axionlike particles (ALPs) could mix with photons in the presence of astrophysical magnetic fields. Searching for this effect in gamma-ray observations of blazars has provided some of the strongest constraints on ALP parameter space so far. Previously, photon-photon dispersion of gamma-rays off of the CMB has been shown to be important for these calculations, and is universally included in ALP-photon mixing models. Here, we assess the effects of dispersion off of other photon fields within the blazar (produced by the accretion disk, the broad line region, the dust torus, starlight, and the syn…
4C +21.35 is a flat-spectrum-radio-quasar-type blazar, in which the rapid variability of very high energy (VHE, $E_γ\gtrsim 100$\,GeV) emission as short as $\sim$ 10 minutes was observed by MAGIC Cherenkov telescopes, and the VHE spectrum extends up to at least 400\,GeV. In this paper, by using a flat broad-line region (BLR) structure, we study the location and properties of $γ$-ray emitting region of 4C +21.35 under the constraints of multiwavelength data. We fit three quasi-simultaneous spectral energy distributions (SEDs) using homogeneous one-zone leptonic model, in which the flat BLR with…
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) can suffer strong absorption above E = 25/(1+z) GeV, due to gamma-gamma interaction if the emitting region is at sub-parsec scale from the super-massive black hole (SMBH). Gamma-ray flares from these astrophysical sources can investigate the location of the high-energy emission region and the physics of the radiating processes. We present a remarkable gamma-ray flaring activity from FSRQ PKS 2023-07 during April 2016, as detected by both AGILE and Fermi satellites. An intensive multi-wavelength campaign, triggered by Swift, covered the entire duration of the…
We present a study of the parsec-scale multi-frequency properties of the quasar S4 1030+61 during a prolonged radio and gamma-ray activity. Observations were performed within Fermi gamma-ray telescope, OVRO 40-m telescope and MOJAVE VLBA monitoring programs, covering five years from 2009. The data are supplemented by four-epoch VLBA observations at 5, 8, 15, 24, and 43 GHz, which were triggered by the bright gamma-ray flare, registered in the quasar in 2010. The S4 1030+61 jet exhibits an apparent superluminal velocity of (6.4+-0.4)c and does not show ejections of new components in the observe…
We present multiwavelength observations and a model for flat spectrum radio quasar NVSS J141922-083830, originally classified as a blazar candidate of unknown type (BCU II object) in the Third Fermi-LAT AGN Catalog (3LAC). Relatively bright flares (>3 magnitudes) were observed on 21 February 2015 (MJD 57074) and 8 September 2018 (MJD 58369) in the optical band with the MASTER Global Robotic Net (MASTER-Net) telescopes. Optical spectra obtained with the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) on 1 March 2015 (MJD 57082), during outburst, and on 30 May 2017 (MJD 57903), during quiescence, showed…
In this paper, we discuss the light-curve features of various flaring scenarios in a time-dependent leptonic model for low-frequency-peaked blazars. The quasar 3C273 is used as an illustrative example. Our code takes into account Fermi-II acceleration and all relevant electron cooling terms, including the external radiation fields generally found to be important in the modeling of the SEDs of FSRQs, as well as synchrotron self absorption and gamma-gamma pair-production. General parameters are constrained through a fit to the average spectral energy distribution (SED) of the blazar by numerical…
New Swift monitoring observations of the variable, radio-quiet quasar, PDS 456, are presented. A bright X-ray flare was captured in September 2018, the flux increasing by a factor of 4 and with a doubling time-scale of 2 days. From the light crossing argument, the coronal size is inferred to be about 30 gravitational radii for a black hole mass of $10^{9} {\rm M}_{\odot}$ and the total flare energy exceeds $10^{51}$ erg. A hardening of the X-ray emission accompanied the flare, with the photon index decreasing from $Γ=2.2$ to $Γ=1.7$ and back again. The flare is produced in the X-ray corona, th…
According to radiative models, radio galaxies are predicted to produce gamma rays from the earliest stages of their evolution onwards. The study of the high-energy emission from young radio sources is crucial for providing information on the most energetic processes associated with these sources, the actual region responsible for this emission, as well as the structure of the newly born radio jets. Despite systematic searches for young radio sources at gamma-ray energies, only a handful of detections have been reported so far. Taking advantage of more than 11 years of \textit{Fermi}-LAT data, w…
We analyze the behavior of the parsec-scale jet of the quasar 3C~454.3 during pronounced flaring activity in 2005-2008. Three major disturbances propagated down the jet along different trajectories with Lorentz factors $Γ>$10. The disturbances show a clear connection with millimeter-wave outbursts, in 2005 May/June, 2007 July, and 2007 December. High-amplitude optical events in the $R$-band light curve precede peaks of the millimeter-wave outbursts by 15-50 days. Each optical outburst is accompanied by an increase in X-ray activity. We associate the optical outbursts with propagation of the su…

The flat spectrum radio quasar 3C 279 was observed in an extremely high activity state on June 16, 2015 (MJD 57189). In this paper, we investigate the properties of this flaring episode in the high energy $γ$-ray and optical bands using data from the \emph{Fermi}-LAT, SMARTS, and SPOL observations during the period June 1-30, 2015 (MJD 57174-57203). The highest emission state in the $γ$-ray band detected by the \emph{Fermi}-LAT exhibits a peak flux of $\sim$ 2$\times$10$^{-7}$ erg~cm$^{-2}$~s$^{-1}$ which is more than 25 times the flux level measured in the low activity state of the source. Th…
Quasi-simultaneous observations of the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar PKS 2326-502 were carried out in the gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, near-infrared, and radio bands. Thanks to these observations we are able to characterize the spectral energy distribution of the source during two flaring and one quiescent gamma-ray states. These data were used to constrain one-zone leptonic models of the spectral energy distributions of each flare and investigate the physical conditions giving rise to them. While modeling one flare only required changes to the electron spectrum, the other flare needed changes …
After a long period of quiescence in γ-rays, blazar 0836+710 (4C +71.07) flared in the Spring of 2011. We found only limited multiwavelength coverage of the source. An indication of correlated optical / γ-ray variability is not surprising for a Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar (FSRQ) like this one. Radio observations at high frequencies, however, had seen a flare in 2010, well offset from possible γ-ray activity. The 2011 γ-ray activity comes during a period of rising radio emission, a pattern that has been seen since the EGRET era.
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) are the most luminous blazars at GeV energies, but only rarely emit detectable fluxes of TeV gamma rays, typically during bright GeV flares. We explore the gamma-ray variability and spectral characteristics of three FSRQs that have been observed at GeV and TeV energies by Fermi-LAT and VERITAS, making use of almost 100 hours of VERITAS observations spread over 10 years: 3C 279, PKS 1222+216, and Ton 599. We explain the GeV flux distributions of the sources in terms of a model derived from a stochastic differential equation describing fluctuations in the magn…
Flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) are bright active galactic nuclei surrounded by gas clouds within a UV-visible intense radiation field that form the so-called broad line region (BLR). These objects emit relativistic jets from a region close to the central supermassive black hole and through the BLR. The Fermi-Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) is sensitive to gamma-ray photons from $\sim$30 MeV to more than 300 GeV. We have performed spectral analysis of bright FSRQs in a 5.5 year (2008-2014) data sample collected by Fermi-LAT, using the new Pass 8 event selection and instrument response fun…
The physical scenario responsible for gamma-ray flaring activity and its location for Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars is still debated. The study of the statistical distribution of waiting-times between flares (the time intervals between consecutive activity peaks) can give information on the distribution of flaring times, and constrain the physical mechanism responsible for gamma-ray emission. We adopt here a Scan-Statistic driven clustering method (iSRS) to recognize flaring states within the FERMI-LAT data, and identify the time of activity-peaks. Results: Flares waiting times can be described …
We introduce a new time-dependent lepto-hadronic model for blazar emission that takes into account the radiation emitted by secondary particles, such as pions and muons, from photo hadronic interactions. Starting from a baseline parameter set guided by a fit to the spectral energy distribution of the blazar 3C 279, we perform a parameter study to investigate the effects of perturbations of the input parameters to mimic different flaring events to study the resulting lightcurves in the optical, X-ray, high energy (HE: E > 100 MeV) and very-high-energy (VHE: E > 100 GeV) gamma-rays as well as th…
Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) exhibit variability across the entire electromagnetic spectrum with distinct flaring episodes at different frequencies. The high sensitivity and nearly uniform sky coverage of the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi satellite make it a powerful tool for monitoring a large number of AGNs over long timescales. This allowed us to detect several flaring AGNs in gamma rays, triggering dedicated multifrequency campaigns on these sources from radio to TeV energies. We discuss the results for two different types of flaring AGN: the flat spectrum radio quasar 3C 279, i…
Context. Observations of the effect of microlensing in gravitationally lensed quasars could potentially be used to study the structure of the source on distance scales down to the size of the supermassive black hole powering the quasar activity. Aims. We search for the microlensing effect in the gamma-ray band using the signal from a gravitationally lensed blazar B0218+357. Methonds. We develop a method of deconvolution of contributions of two images of the source into the gamma-ray band flaring lightcurve. We use this method to study the evolution of the magnification factor ratio between the…
PKS 2023-07 is a flat spectrum radio quasar located at a redshift $z=1.388$, farther than any source currently detected at very high energies ($E>100$ GeV). At such energies, absorption by the extragalactic background light (EBL) renders the detection of distant sources particularly challenging. The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) observed the source following reports from AGILE (April 2016) and Fermi-LAT (April 2016, September and October 2017) on high-flux states in gamma rays. During each of the three flaring periods, near-simultaneous observations were obtained with H.E.S.S., Fe…
Blazars exhibit stochastic flux variability across the electromagnetic spectrum, often exhibiting heavy-tailed flux distributions, commonly modeled as lognormal. However, Tavecchio et al. (2020) and Adams et al. (2022) found that the high-energy gamma-ray flux distributions of several of the brightest flaring Fermi-LAT flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) are well modeled by an even heavier-tailed distribution, which we show is the inverse gamma distribution. We propose an autoregressive inverse gamma variability model in which an inverse gamma flux distribution arises as a consequence of a sho…
We perform a detailed spectral study of a recent flaring activity from the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar (FSRQ), 3C\,454.3, observed simultaneously in optical, UV, X-ray and $γ$-ray energies during 16 to 28 August, 2015. The source reached its peak $γ$-ray flux of $(1.9\pm0.2)\times\,10^{-05} \; {\rm ph\,cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$ on 22 August. The time averaged broadband spectral energy distribution (SED) is obtained for three time periods, namely "flaring state"; covering the peak $γ$-ray flux, "post flaring state"; immediately following the peak flare and "quiescent state"; separated from the flaring e…
We report on the multi-wavelength observations of PKS 1510-089 (a flat spectrum radio quasar at z=0.361) during its high activity period between 2008 September and 2009 June. During this 11 months period, the source was characterized by a complex variability at optical, UV and gamma-ray bands, on time scales down to 6-12 hours. The brightest gamma-ray isotropic luminosity, recorded on 2009 March 26, was ~ 2x10^48erg s^-1. The spectrum in the Fermi-LAT energy range shows a mild curvature well described by a log-parabolic law, and can be understood as due to the Klein-Nishina effect. The gamma-r…
Recent high-energy missions have allowed keeping watch over blazars in flaring states, which provide deep insights into the engine powered by supermassive black holes. However, having a quasar caught in a very bright flaring state is not easy requiring long surveys. Therefore, the observation of such flaring events represents a goldmine for theoretical studies. Such a flaring event was captured by the INTEGRAL mission in June 2015 while performing its (as of today) deepest extragalactic survey when it caught the prominent blazar 3C~279 in its brightest flare ever recorded at gamma-ray energies…
The flat spectrum radio quasar CTA 102 entered an extended period of activity from 2016 to 2017 during which several strong $γ$-ray flares were observed. Using Fermi large area telescope data a detailed investigation of \gray spectra of CTA 102 during the flaring period is performed. In several periods the \gray spectrum is not consistent with a simple power-law, having a hard photon index with an index of $\sim(1.8-2.0)$ that shows a spectral cutoff around an observed photon energy of $\sim(9-16)$ GeV. The internal $γ$-ray absorption via photon-photon pair production on the broad-line-region-…
We report results of a multiband monitoring campaign of the flat spectrum radio quasar TXS 0536+145 at redshift 2.69. This source was detected during a very high gamma-ray activity state in 2012 March by the Large Area Telescope on board Fermi, becoming the gamma-ray flaring blazar at the highest redshift detected so far. At the peak of the flare the source reached an apparent isotropic gamma-ray luminosity of 6.6 x 10^49 erg/s which is comparable to the values achieved by the most luminous blazars. This activity triggered radio-to-X-rays monitoring observations by Swift, Very Long Baseline Ar…
The flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C~454.3 throughout the years has presented very high activity phases (flares) in which the different wavebands increase their flux dramatically. In this work, we perform multiwavelength analysis from radio to gamma-rays and study the Mg~II~$λ2798$Å emission line and the UV~Fe~II band from 2008-2018. We found that an increase in the 43 GHz flux density of the quasi-stationary component C, coincides with the estimated time at which a superluminal blob ejected from the radio core (which caused the brightest flare of 2010) collides with the quasi-stationary componen…
An exhaustive analysis of 9-year optical R-band photopolarimetric data of the flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C279 from 2008 February 27 to 2017 May 25 is presented, alongside with multiwavelength observing campaigns performed during the flaring activity exhibited in 2009 February/March, 2011 June, 2014 March/April, 2015 June and 2017 February. In the R-band, this source showed the maximum brightness state of $13.68\pm 0.11$ mag ($1.36\pm0.20$ mJy) on 2017 March 02, and the lowest brightness state ever recorded of $18.20\pm 0.87$ mag ($0.16\pm0.03$ mJy) on 2010 June 17. During the entire period of…
A bright optical flare was detected in the high-redshift ($z=2.133$) quasar CGRaBS J0809+5341 on 2014 April 13. The absolute magnitude of the object reached $-30.0$ during the flare, making it the brightest one (in flaring stage) among all known quasars so far. The 15 GHz flux density of CGRaBS J0809+5341 monitored in the period from 2008 to 2016 also reached its peak at the same time. To reveal any structural change possibly associated with the flare in the innermost radio structure of the quasar, we conducted a pilot very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observation of CGRaBS J0809+5341 u…
MeV blazars are a sub--population of the blazar family, exhibiting larger--than--average jet powers, accretion luminosities and black hole masses. Because of their extremely hard X--ray continua, these objects are best studied in the X-ray domain. Here, we report on the discovery by the $Fermi$ Large Area Telescope and subsequent follow-up observations with $NuSTAR$, $Swift$ and GROND of a new member of the MeV blazar family: PMN J0641$-$0320. Our optical spectroscopy provides confirmation that this is a flat--spectrum radio quasar located at a redshift of $z=1.196$. Its very hard $NuSTAR$ spe…
The blazar PKS 1510-089 was the first of the flat spectrum radio quasar type, which had been detected simultaneously by a ground based Cherenkov telescope (H.E.S.S.) and the LAT instrument on board the Fermi satellite. Given the strong broad line region emission defining this blazar class, and the resulting high optical depth for VHE ($E>100\,$GeV) $γ$-rays, it was surprising to detect VHE emission from such an object. In May 2015, PKS 1510-089 exhibited high states throughout the electromagnetic spectrum. Target of Opportunity observations with the H.E.S.S. experiment revealed strong and unpr…
We report simultaneous observations at different energy bands in radio, optical, UV, X-rays and $γ$ rays of the flat-spectrum radio-quasar 3C 345. We built the light curve of the source at different frequencies from 2008, the beginning of the \textit{Fermi} all-sky survey, to 2016, using new data and public archives. In particular we obtained several optical spectra, to study the behavior of emission lines and the continuum in different activity states and to derive the black hole mass. 3C 345 showed two flaring episodes in 2009, which occurred simultaneously in $γ$ ray, optical/UV and X-rays,…
We conducted a detailed long-term spectral and temporal study of flat spectrum radio quasar 4C +01.02, by using the multi-wavelength observations from Fermi-LAT, Swift-XRT, and Swift-UVOT. The $2$-day bin $γ$-ray lightcurve in the 2014-2017 active state displays $14$ peak structures with a maximum integral flux $(\rm E > 100 \ MeV)$ of $\rm (2.5 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-6}\ ph\ cm^{-2}\ s^{-1}$ at MJD 57579.1, which is approximately $61$ times higher than the base flux of $\rm (4.1 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-8}\ ph\ cm^{-2}\ s^{-1}$, calculated by averaging the flux points when the source was in quiesce…
We report the AGILE gamma-ray observations and the results of the multiwavelength campaigns on seven flaring blazars detected by the mission: During two multiwavelength campaigns, we observed gamma-ray activity from two Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars of the Virgo region, e.g. 3C 279 and 3C 273 (the latter being the first extragalactic source simultaneously observed with the gamma-ray telescope and the hard X ray imager of the mission). Due to the large FOV of the AGILE/GRID instrument, we achieved an almost continuous coverage of the FSRQ 3C 454.3. The source showed flux above 10E-6 photons/cm2/s…
We present the $γ$-ray observations of the flat-spectrum radio quasar PKS 1441+25 (z=0.939), using the {\it Fermi} large Area Telescope data accumulated during January - December 2015. A $γ$-ray flare was observed in January 24, when the flux increased up to $(2.22\pm0.38)\times10^{-6}\;{\rm photon\:cm^{-2}\:s^{-1}}$ with the flux-doubling time scale being as short as $\sim1.44$ days. The spectral analysis shows that from April 13 to April 28, 2015 the MeV-to-GeV photon index has hardened and changes in the range of $Γ=(1.73-1.79)$ for most of the time. The hardest photon index of $Γ=1.54\pm0.…
We perform time-dependent, spatially-resolved simulations of blazar emission to evaluate several flaring scenarios related to magnetic-field amplification and enhanced particle acceleration. The code explicitly accounts for light-travel-time effects and is applied to flares observed in the flat spectrum radio quasar (FSRQ) PKS 0208-512, which show optical/γ-ray correlation at some times, but orphan optical flares at other times. Changes in both the magnetic field and the particle acceleration efficiency are explored as causes of flares. Generally, external Compton emission appears to describe …
In 2008 AGILE and Fermi detected gamma-ray flaring activity from the unidentified EGRET source 3EG J1236+0457, recently associated with a flat spectrum radio quasar GB6 J1239+0443 at z=1.762. The optical counterpart of the gamma-ray source underwent a flux enhancement of a factor 15-30 in 6 years, and of ~10 in six months. We interpret this flare-up in terms of a transition from an accretion-disk dominated emission to a synchrotron-jet dominated one. We analysed a Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) archival optical spectrum taken during a period of low radio and optical activity of the source. We…
Investigating the magnetic field structure in the innermost regions of relativistic jets is fundamental to shed light on the crucial physical processes giving rise to the jet formation, as well as to its extraordinary radiation output up to gamma-ray energies. We study the magnetic field structure of the quasar CTA 102 with 3 and 7 mm-VLBI polarimetric observations, reaching an unprecedented resolution (~50 microarcsec). We also investigate the variability and physical process occurring in the source during the observing period which coincides with a very active state of the source till high-e…
We have presented a multiwavelength temporal and spectral study of the Blazar PKS 0346-27 for the period 2019 January-2021 December (MJD 58484-59575) using data from Fermi-LAT (gamma-rays), Swift-XRT (X-rays) and Swift-UVOT (ultra-violet and optical). We identified multiple flaring episodes by analyzing the gamma-ray light curve generated from the Fermi-LAT data over a two-year period. The light curves of these individual gamma-ray flares with one-day binning were then modeled using a sum-of-exponentials fit. We found the minimum variability times for the gamma-ray light curve to be 1.34 +\- 0…
PKS2142-75 (a.k.a. 2FGL J2147.4-7534) is a flat-spectrum radio quasar that was observed quasi-simultaneously by a suite of instruments across the elec- tromagnetic spectrum during two flaring states in April 2010 and August 2011 as well as a quiescent state in December 2011 through January 2012. The results of these campaigns and model spectral energy distributions (SEDs) from the active and quiescent states are presented. The SED model parameters of PKS 2142-75 indicate that the two flares of the source are created by unique physical conditions. SED studies of flat spectrum radio quasars are …
I present a study of the high-energy gamma-ray properties of the flat spectrum radio quasar, PKS 1510-089, based on 3.75 years of observations with the Large Area Telescope (LAT) detector on-board the Fermi gamma-ray Space Telescope. Throughout the observing period, the 0.1 GeV < E < 300 GeV gamma-ray flux was highly variable, undergoing several flaring events where the daily flux exceeded 10^{-5} photons cm^{-2} s^{-1} on 3 separate occasions. The increased photon statistics of these large flares allowed the observations to be re-analysed in 6 and 3 hour intervals, revealing flux doubling tim…
The flat spectrum radio quasar PKS 1222+216 was detected in the very high energy gamma-ray band by MAGIC during a highly active gamma-ray phase following an alert by the LAT onboard Fermi. Its relatively hard spectrum without a cut off, together with the observed variability on timescale of ~10 min challenges standard emission models. If the emission originates in a portion of the relativistic jet located inside the BLR, severe absorption of gamma rays above few tens of GeV is expected due to the pair production process. These observations imply the existence of a very compact (R_b ~5 x 10^{14…
PKS 1510-089 is a powerful Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar at z=0.361 with radiative output dominated by the gamma-ray emission. In the last two years PKS 1510-089 showed high variability over all the electromagnetic spectrum and in particular very high gamma-ray activity was detected by the Gamma-Ray Imaging Detector on board the AGILE satellite with flaring episodes in August 2007 and March 2008. An extraordinary activity was detected in March 2009 with several flaring episodes and a flux that reached 500 x 10^{-8} photons cm^{-2} s^{-1}. Multiwavelength observations of PKS 1510-089 seem to indic…

The narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy SBS 0846+513 was first detected by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on-board Fermi in 2011 June-July when it underwent a period of flaring activity. Since then, as Fermi continues to accumulate data on this source, its flux has been monitored on a daily basis. Two further gamma-ray flaring episodes from SBS 0846+513 were observed in 2012 May and August, reaching a daily peak flux integrated above 100 MeV of (50+/-12)x10^-8 ph/cm^2/s, and (73+/-14)x10^-8 ph/cm^2/s on May 24 and August 7, respectively. Three outbursts were detected at 15 GHz by the Owens Valley Rad…
The flat spectrum radio quasar 1633+382 (4C~38.41) showed a significant increase of its radio flux density during the period 2012 March - 2015 August which correlates with gamma-ray flaring activity. Multi-frequency simultaneous VLBI observations were conducted as part of the interferometric monitoring of gamma-ray bright active galactic nuclei (iMOGABA) program and supplemented with additional radio monitoring observations with the OVRO 40m telescope, the Boston University VLBI program, and the Submillimeter Array. The epochs of the maxima for the two largest gamma-ray flares coincide with th…
In this paper we report on the two-year-long Fermi-LAT observation of the peculiar blazar 4C +21.35 (PKS 1222+216). This source was in a quiescent state from the start of science operations of the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope in 2008 August until 2009 September, and then became more active, with gradually increasing flux and some moderately-bright flares. In 2010 April and June, 4C +21.35 underwent a very strong GeV outburst composed of several major flares characterized by rise and decay timescales of the order of a day. During the outburst, the GeV spectra of 4C +21.35 displayed a broken …
The discovery of rapidly variable Very High Energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission from 4C +21.35 (PKS 1222+216) by MAGIC on 2010 June 17, triggered by the high activity detected by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) in high energy (HE; E > 100 MeV) gamma-rays, poses intriguing questions on the location of the gamma-ray emitting region in this flat spectrum radio quasar. We present multifrequency data of 4C +21.35 collected from centimeter to VHE during 2010 to investigate the properties of this source and discuss a possible emission model. The first hint of detection at VHE was observ…
We attempt to present a multiwavelength variability and correlation study as well as detailed multi-waveband spectral characteristics of the May 2021 $γ$-ray flare of the blazar source TXS 1700+685. The multi-wavelength observation from \textit{Fermi}-LAT, \textit{Swift}-XRT/UVOT as well as radio archival data are used for our spectro-temporal investigation. We estimate the variability time-scale of the source from the flux doubling time in different flaring regions detected in \textit{Fermi}-LAT observation and the shortest variability time is used to put a constraint on the minimum Doppler f…
We report the results of a multi-band observing campaign on the famous blazar 3C 279 conducted during a phase of increased activity from 2013 December to 2014 April, including first observations of it with NuSTAR. The $γ$-ray emission of the source measured by Fermi-LAT showed multiple distinct flares reaching the highest flux level measured in this object since the beginning of the Fermi mission, with $F(E > 100\,{\rm MeV})$ of $10^{-5}$ photons cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, and with a flux doubling time scale as short as 2 hours. The $γ$-ray spectrum during one of the flares was very hard, with an ind…
