The in-medium masses of the light vector, $ρ^{0, \pm}$, $ω$ and the light axial-vector, $A_1^{0, \pm}$ mesons, are studied in the magnetized nuclear matter, accounting for the effects of the Dirac sea. The in-medium partial decay widths for the $A_1\rightarrow ρπ$ channels, are studied from the in-medium masses of the initial and the final state particles, by applying a phenomenological Lagrangian to account for the $A_1ρπ$ interaction vertices. The masses calculated within the QCD sum rule framework, are obtained in terms of the light quark ($\sim \langle \bar{q}q \rangle$) and the scalar gluon condensates ($\sim \langle G^2 \rangle$), as well as the light four-quark condensate ($\sim \langle \bar{q}q\rangle^2 $). The condensates are calculated within the chiral $SU(3)$ model in terms of the medium modified scalar fields. The effects of magnetic fields are incorporated through the Landau energy levels of protons, anomalous magnetic moments (AMMs) of the nucleons in the nuclear matter, in addition to the magnetized Dirac sea contribution, within the chiral effective model. The enhancement (reduction) of the light quark condensates with magnetic field, is called (inverse) magnetic catalysis. The effects of magnetic fields on the in-medium hadronic decay widths of the $A_1$ mesons, are observed to be significant through the Dirac sea effect, accounting for the AMMs of the nucleons. This may affect the light mesons production in the non-central, heavy-ion collision experiments, where estimated magnetic field is very large.
In this paper the emergence of the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) and the related anomalous current is investigated using the real time Dirac-Heisenberg-Wigner formalism. This method is widely used for describing strong field physics and QED vacuum tunneling phenomena as well as pair production in heavy-ion collisions. We extend earlier investigations of the CME in constant flux tube configuration by considering time dependent fields. In this model we can follow the formation of axial charge separation, formation of axial current and then the emergence of the anomalous electric current. Qualitat…

The Berry phase is analyzed for Weyl and Dirac fermions in a phase space representation of the worldline formalism. Kinetic theories are constructed for both at a classical level. Whereas the Weyl fermion case reduces in dimension, resembling a theory in quantum mechanics, the Dirac fermion case takes on a manifestly Lorentz covariant form. To achieve a classical kinetic theory for the non-Abelian Dirac fermion Berry phase a spinor construction of Barut and Zanghi is utilized. The axial anomaly is also studied at a quantum level. It is found that under an adiabatic approximation, which is nece…
We derive some exact results concerning the anomalous U(1)$_A$ symmetry in the chirally symmetric phase of QCD at high temperature. We discuss the importance of topology and finite-volume effects on the U(1)$_A$ symmetry violation characterized by the difference of chiral susceptibilities. In particular, we present a reliable method to measure the anomaly strength in lattice simulations with fixed topology. We also derive new spectral sum rules and a novel Banks-Casher-type relation. Through our spectral analysis we arrive at a simple alternative proof of the Aoki-Fukaya-Taniguchi "theorem" on…
We investigate the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum ($ρ(λ,m_l)$) to study the microscopic origin of axial anomaly in high temperature phase of QCD. We propose novel relations between the derivatives ($\partial^n ρ(λ,m_l)/\partial m_l^n$) of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum with respect to the quark mass ($m_l$) and the $(n+1)$-point correlations among the eigenvalues ($λ$) of the massless Dirac operator. Based on these relations, we present lattice QCD results for $\partial^n ρ(λ,m_l)/\partial m_l^n$ ($n=1, 2, 3$) with $m_l$ corresponding to pion masses $m_π=160-55$ MeV, and at a temperature of about 1.…
We introduce novel relations between the derivatives [$\partial^{n}ρ(λ, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$] of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum [$ρ(λ, m_{l})$] with respect to the light sea quark mass ($m_{l}$) and the $(n+1)$-point correlations among the eigenvalues ($λ$) of the massless Dirac operator. Using these relations we present lattice QCD results for $\partial^{n}ρ(λ, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$ ($n=1, 2, 3$) for $m_{l}$ corresponding to pion masses $m_π=160-55$ MeV, and at a temperature of about 1.6 times the chiral phase transition temperature. Calculations were carried out using (2+1) flavors of …
We examine a new class of CPT-even and dimension-five nonminimal interactions between fermions and photons, deprived of higher-order derivatives, yielding electric dipole moment and magnetic dipole moment in the context of the Dirac equation. These couplings are Lorentz-violating nonminimal structures, composed of a rank-2 tensor, the electromagnetic tensor, and gamma matrices, being addressed in its axial and non-axial hermitian versions. We use the electron's anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moment measurements to reach upper bounds of $1$ part in $10^{11}$ and $10^{16}$ GeV$^{-1}$.
Within Wigner function formalism, the chiral anomaly arises naturally from the Dirac sea contribution in un-normal-ordered Wigner function. For massless fermions, the Dirac sea contribution behaves like a 4-dimensional or 3-dimensional Berry monopole in Euclidian momentum space, while for massive fermions, although Dirac sea still leads to the chiral anomaly but there is no Berry monopole at infrared momentum region. We discuss these points explicitly in a simple and concrete example.
The renormalized contribution of fermions to the curvature masses of vector and axial-vector mesons is derived with two different methods at leading order in the loop expansion applied to the (2+1)-flavor constituent quark-meson model. The corresponding contribution to the curvature masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, already known in the literature, is rederived in a transparent way. The temperature dependence of the curvature mass of various (axial-)vector modes obtained by decomposing the curvature mass tensor is investigated along with the (axial-)vector--(pseudo)scalar mixing. A…
We propose the new nondissipative transport effect - the appearance of axial current of thermal quasiparticles in the presence of background gravity with torsion. For the non-interacting model of massless Dirac fermions the response of the axial current to torsion is derived. The chiral vortical effect appears to be the particular case of the chiral torsional effect. The proposed effect may be observed in the condensed matter systems with emergent relativistic invariance (Weyl/Dirac semimetals and the $^3$He-A superfluid).
We establish covariant semiclassical transport equations of massive spin-1/2 particles which are generated by the quantum kinetic equation modified by enthalpy current dependent terms. The purpose of modification is to take into account the noninertial properties due to the angular velocity of rotating frame which is equivalent to the fluid vorticity in hydrodynamical approach. We present the equations satisfied by the Wigner function components and by studying their solution in the semiclassical approximation we accomplish the transport equations. To acquire a three-dimensional kinetic theory…
Augmentations to the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian (QED one-loop effective action in homogeneous electromagnetic fields) under a constant background axial gauge are examined. Two special configurations admit an exact eigendecomposition, and hence effective action as a spectral sum, of the augmented Dirac operator: one with a magnetic field with chiral chemical potential, and the other with an electric field with spatial axial gauge, which resembles an emergent vorticity. An enhancement to Schwinger pair production is found for the latter, which is more fully analyzed using the worldline instanto…
We propose an experimental setup using 3D Dirac semimetals to access a novel phenomenon induced by the chiral anomaly. We show that the combination of a magnetic field and a circularly polarized laser induces a finite charge density with an accompanying axial current. This is because the circularly polarized laser breaks time-reversal symmetry and the Dirac point splits into two Weyl points, which results in an axial-vector field. We elucidate the appearance of the axial-vector field with the help of the Floquet theory by deriving an effective Hamiltonian for high-frequency electric fields. Th…
We present an atomic, molecular, and optical physics based method for the purpose of search for axial-vector mediated dipole-dipole interaction between electrons. In our scheme, applying a static magnetic field and a pump beam and a probe beam to a hybrid mechanical system composed of a nitrogen-vacancy center and a cantilever resonator, we could obtain a probe absorption spectrum. Based on the study of the relationship between this spectrum and the exotic dipole-dipole interaction, we put forward our detection principle and then provide a prospective constraint most stringent at a rough inter…
We study the excitation of the electric current of chiral fermions along the external magnetic field, known as the chiral magnetic effect, in the presence of the background axial-vector field. The calculation of the current is based on the exact solution of the Dirac equation for these fermions accounting for the external fields. First, this solution was obtained for massive particles and, then, we consider the chiral limit, which is used in the anomalous current computation. We obtain that, in this situation, the anomalous current does not contain the direct contribution of the axial-vector f…
The coupling between the spin of a massive Dirac fermion and the angular momentum of the medium, i.e. the gravitomagnetic moment, is shown here to be renormalized by QED interactions at finite temperature. This means that the anomalous gravitomagnetic moment (AGM) does not vanish, and implies that thermal effects can break the Einstein equivalence principle in quantum field theory, as argued previously. We also show that the AGM causes radiative corrections to the axial current of massive fermions induced by vorticity in quantum relativistic fluids, similarly to the previous findings for massl…
The aim of this work is to study some possible local and global $U(1)$ axial condensates in the high-temperature chirally restored phase of QCD, by means of two nonperturbative analytical techniques: (i) by expressing the functional averages in terms of the spectral density of the Euclidean Dirac operator and (ii) by evaluating the functional integrals in the instanton-background approximation. In this way, besides proving that these condensates are indeed different from zero in the high-temperature regime, we shall also derive their asymptotic temperature dependence and compare it with that o…
The chiral susceptibility, or the first derivative of the chiral condensate with respect to the quark mass, is often used as a probe for the QCD phase transition since the chiral condensate is an order parameter of $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetry breaking. However, the chiral condensate also breaks the axial $U(1)$ symmetry, which is usually not paid attention to as it is already broken by anomaly and apparently gives little impact on the transition. We investigate the susceptibilities in the scalar and pseudoscalar channels in order to quantify how much the axial $U(1)$ breaking contributes…
