We develop a calculus of Berezin-Toeplitz operators quantizing exotic classes of smooth functions on compact Kähler manifolds and acting on holomorphic sections of powers of positive line bundles. These functions (classical observables) are exotic in the sense that their derivatives are allowed to grow in ways controlled by local geometry and the power of the line bundle. The properties of this quantization are obtained via careful analysis of the kernels of the operators using Melin and Sjöstrand's method of complex stationary phase. We obtain a functional calculus result, a trace formula, and a parametrix construction for this larger class of functions. These results are crucially used in proving a probabilistic Weyl-law for randomly perturbed (standard) Berezin-Toeplitz operators.
We survey recent results about the asymptotic expansion of Toeplitz operators and their kernels, as well as Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. We deal in particular with calculation of the first coefficients of these expansions.
This article is a review on Berezin-Toeplitz operator and Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization for compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds. The basic objects, concepts, and results are given. This concerns the correct semi-classical limit behaviour of the operator quantization, the unique Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization (star product), covariant and contravariant Berezin symbols, and Berezin transform. Other related objects and constructions are also discussed.
For phase-space manifolds which are compact Kaehler manifolds relations between the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and the quantization with the help of Berezin's coherent states and symbols are studied. First the results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact Kaehler manifolds due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are recalled. It is shown that the covariant symbol map is adjoint to the Toeplitz map. The Berezin transform for compact Kaehler manifolds is discussed. In this lecture results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds are presented. These results are obtained in joint work with M. Bordemann and E. Meinrenken. The existence of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization is also covered. Recent results obtained in joint work with A. Karabegov on the asymptotic expansion of the Berezin transform for arbitrary quantizable compact Kaehler manifolds are explained. As an application the asymptotic expansion of the Fubini-Study fundamental form under the coherent state embedding is considered. Some comm…
We study the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on Kaehler manifolds. We explain first how to compute various associated asymptotic expansions, then we compute explicitly the first terms of the expansion of the kernel of the Berezin-Toeplitz operators, and of the composition of two Berezin-Toeplitz operators. As application we estimate the norm of Donaldson's Q-operator.
Let $M$ be an arbitrary complex manifold and let $L$ be a Hermitian holomorphic line bundle over $M$. We introduce the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of the open set of $M$ where the curvature on $L$ is non-degenerate. The quantum spaces are the spectral spaces corresponding to $[0,k^{-N}]$ ($N>1$ fixed), of the Kodaira Laplace operator acting on forms with values in tensor powers $L^k$. We establish the asymptotic expansion of associated Toeplitz operators and their composition as $k\to\infty$ and we define the corresponding star-product. If the Kodaira Laplace operator has a certain spectral …
We give a complete identification of the deformation quantization which was obtained from the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on an arbitrary compact Kaehler manifold. The deformation quantization with the opposite star-product proves to be a differential deformation quantization with separation of variables whose classifying form is explicitly calculated. Its characteristic class (which classifies star-products up to equivalence) is obtained. The proof is based on the microlocal description of the Szegoe kernel of a strictly pseudoconvex domain given by Boutet de Monvel and Sjoestrand.
We study the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on symplectic manifolds making use of the full off-diagonal asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel. We give also a characterization of Toeplitz operators in terms of their asymptotic expansion. The semi-classical limit properties of the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization for non-compact manifolds and orbifolds are also established.
For arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds it is shown how a natural formal deformation quantization (star product) can be obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. Results on their semi-classical behaviour (their asymptotic expansion) due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are used in an essential manner. It is shown that the star product is null on constants and fulfills parity. A trace is constructed and the relation to deformation quantization by geometric quantization is given.
We give new methods for computing the coefficients of the asymptotic expansions of the kernel of Berezin-Toeplitz quantization obtained recently by Ma-Marinescu, and of the composition of two Berezin-Toeplitz quantizations. Our main tool is the stationary phase formula of Melin-Sjöstrand.
We introduce new tools for analytic microlocal analysis on Kähler manifolds. As an application, we prove that the space of Berezin-Toeplitz operators with analytic contravariant symbol is an algebra. We also give a short proof of the Bergman kernel asymptotics up to an exponentially small error.
We study the zeros of sections of the form $T_k s_k$ of a large power $L^{\otimes k} \to M$ of a holomorphic positive Hermitian line bundle over a compact K\''ahler manifold $M$, where $s_k$ is a random holomorphic section of $L^{\otimes k}$ and $T_k$ is a Berezin-Toeplitz operator, in the limit $k \to +\infty$. In particular, we compute the second order approximation of the expectation of the distribution of these zeros. In a ball of radius of order $k^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ around $x \in M$, assuming that the principal symbol $f$ of $T_k$ is real-valued and vanishes transversally, we show that this…
Given a regular weight $ω$ and a positive Borel measure $μ$ on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$, the Toeplitz operator associated with $μ$ is $$ \mathcal{T}_μ(f)(z)=\int_{\mathbb{D}} f(ζ)\bar{B_z^ω(ζ)}\,dμ(ζ), $$ where $B^ω_{z}$ are the reproducing kernels of the weighted Bergman space $A^2_ω$. We describe bounded and compact Toeplitz operators $\mathcal{T}_μ:A^p_ω\to A^q_ω$, $1<q,p<\infty$, in terms of Carleson measures and the Berezin transform $$ \widetilde{\mathcal{T}_μ}(z)=\frac{\langle\mathcal{T}_μ(B^ω_{z}), B^ω_{z} \rangle_{A^2_ω}}{\|B_z^ω\|^2_{A^2_ω}}. $$ We also characterize Schatten class …
For the open unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ in the complex plane, it is well known that if $ϕ\in C(\overline{\mathbb{D}})$ then its Berezin transform $\widetildeϕ$ also belongs to $C(\overline{\mathbb{D}})$. We say that $\mathbb{D}$ is BC-regular. In this paper we study BC-regularity of some pseudoconvex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$ and show that the boundary geometry plays an important role. We also establish a relationship between the essential norm of an operator in a natural Toeplitz subalgebra and its Berezin transform.

In this article we characterize the boundedness and compactness of a Toeplitz-type operator on weighted Bergman spaces satisfying the so-called Bekolle-Bonami condition in terms of the Berezin transform.

We characterize Schatten class membership of positive Toeplitz operators defined on the Bergman spaces over the Siegel upper half-space in terms of averaging functions and Berezin transforms in the range of $0<p<\infty$.
Given a CR manifold with non-degenerate Levi form, we show that the operators of the functional calculus for Toeplitz operators are complex Fourier integral operators of Szegő type. As an application, we establish semi-classical spectral dimensions for Toeplitz operators. We then consider a CR manifold with a compact Lie group action $G$ and we establish quantization commutes with reduction for Toeplitz operators. Moreover, we also compute semi-classical spectral dimensions for $G$-invariant Toeplitz operators.
The purpose of this paper is to study the Sarason's problem on Fock spaces of polyanalytic functions. Namely, given two polyanalytic symbols $f$ and $g$, we establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the boundedness of some Toeplitz products $ T_{f}T_{\bar g}$ subjected to certain restriction on $f$ and $g$. We also characterize this property in terms of the Berezin transform.
We study positive Toeplitz operators on the Bergman spaces having the fast decreasing weight functions in a certain class. We give the characterizations for the boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operators in terms of their Berezin transforms and averaging functions. In particular, we show the equivalent conditions in order that Toeplitz operators on $A^2(ω)$ belong to the Schatten class $S_p$, $0<p<\infty$.
We characterise the boundedness of a Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space with an L^1 symbol. We also prove that the compactness of a Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space with an L^1 symbol is completely determined by the boundary behaviour of itss Berezin transform. This result extends known results in the cases when the symbol is either a positive L^1 function, an L^\infty function or a general BMO^1 function.
We give a necessary and a sufficient condition for the boundedness of the Toeplitz product $T_FT_{G^*}$ on the vector valued Bergman space $L_a^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$, where $F$ and $G$ are matrix symbols with scalar valued Bergman space entries. The results generalize existing results in the scalar valued Bergman space case. We also characterize boundedness and invertibility of Toeplitz products $T_FT_{G^*}$ in terms of the Berezin transform, generalizing results found by Zheng and Stroethoff for the scalar valued Bergman space.

We define positive Toeplitz operators between harmonic Bergman-Besov spaces $b^p_α$ on the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$ for the full ranges of parameters $0<p<\infty$, $α\in\mathbb{R}$. We give characterizations of bounded and compact Toeplitz operators taking one harmonic Bergman-Besov space into another in terms of Carleson and vanishing Carleson measures. We also give characterizations for a positive Toeplitz operator on $b^{2}_α$ to be a Schatten class operator $S_{p}$ in terms of averaging functions and Berezin transforms for $1\leq p<\infty$, $α\in\mathbb{R}$. Our results extend those kno…
We study mapping properties of Toeplitz operators $T_μ$ associated to nonnegative Borel measure $μ$ on the complex space $\mathbb{C}^n$. We, in particular, describe the bounded and compact operators $T_μ$ acting between Fock spaces in terms of the objects $t$-Berezin transforms, averaging functions, and averaging sequences of their inducing measures $μ$. An asymptotic estimate for the norms of the operators has been also obtained. The results obtained extend a recent work of Z. Hu and X. Lv and fills the remaining gap when both the smallest and largest Banach--Fock spaces are taken into accoun…
For $1 < p < \infty$ let $\mathcal{T}_p ^α$ be the norm closure of the algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with bounded symbols acting on the standard weighted Fock space $F_α^p$. In this paper, we will show that an operator $A$ is compact on $F_α^p$ if and only if $A \in \mathcal{T}_p ^α$ and the Berezin transform $B_α(A)$ of $A$ vanishes at infinity.
Using equivariant Toeplitz operator calculus, we give a new proof of the Atiyah-Weinstein conjecture on the index of Fourier integral operators and the relative index of CR structures.
The well-known Axler-Zheng theorem characterizes compactness of finite sums of finite products of Toeplitz operators on the unit disk in terms of the Berezin transform of these operators. Subsequently this theorem was generalized to other domains and appeared in different forms, including domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$ on which the $\overline{\partial}$-Neumann operator $N$ is compact. In this work we remove the assumption on $N$, and we study weighted Bergman spaces on smooth bounded pseudoconvex domains. We prove a local version of the Axler-Zheng theorem characterizing compactness of Toeplitz op…
Let $\ds dA=\frac{dxdy}π$ denote the normalized Lebesgue area measure on the unit disk $\disk$ and $u$, a summable function on $\disk$. $$B(u)(z)=\int_\disk u(ζ)\frac{(1-|z|^2)^2}{|1-ζ\oln z|^4}dA(ζ)$$ is called the Berezin transform of $u$. Ahern \cite{a} described all the possible triples $\{u,f,g\}$ for which $$B(u)(z)=f(z)\oln g(z)$$ where both $f,g$ are holomorphic in $\disk$. This result was crucial in solving a version of the zero product problem for Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. The natural next question was to describe all functions in the range of Berezin Transform which a…
We consider the weighted $A^p(ω)$ and $B_p(ω)$ spaces of holomorphic functions on the polydisk (in the case of $p>1$). We prove some theorems about the boundedness of Toeplitz operators on weighted Besov spaces $B_p(ω)$ and about the boundedness of generalized little Hankel and Berezin- type operators on $A^p(ω)$.
