Generative models have emerged as an essential building block for many image synthesis and editing tasks. Recent advances in this field have also enabled high-quality 3D or video content to be generated that exhibits either multi-view or temporal consistency. With our work, we explore 4D generative adversarial networks (GANs) that learn unconditional generation of 3D-aware videos. By combining neural implicit representations with time-aware discriminator, we develop a GAN framework that synthesizes 3D video supervised only with monocular videos. We show that our method learns a rich embedding of decomposable 3D structures and motions that enables new visual effects of spatio-temporal renderings while producing imagery with quality comparable to that of existing 3D or video GANs.

In the deep learning era, long video generation of high-quality still remains challenging due to the spatio-temporal complexity and continuity of videos. Existing prior works have attempted to model video distribution by representing videos as 3D grids of RGB values, which impedes the scale of generated videos and neglects continuous dynamics. In this paper, we found that the recent emerging paradigm of implicit neural representations (INRs) that encodes a continuous signal into a parameterized neural network effectively mitigates the issue. By utilizing INRs of video, we propose dynamics-awar…
The recent success in deep learning has lead to various effective representation learning methods for videos. However, the current approaches for video representation require large amount of human labeled datasets for effective learning. We present an unsupervised representation learning framework to encode scene dynamics in videos captured from multiple viewpoints. The proposed framework has two main components: Representation Learning Network (RL-NET), which learns a representation with the help of Blending Network (BL-NET), and Video Rendering Network (VR-NET), which is used for video synth…
We propose the first deep learning solution to video frame inpainting, a challenging instance of the general video inpainting problem with applications in video editing, manipulation, and forensics. Our task is less ambiguous than frame interpolation and video prediction because we have access to both the temporal context and a partial glimpse of the future, allowing us to better evaluate the quality of a model's predictions objectively. We devise a pipeline composed of two modules: a bidirectional video prediction module, and a temporally-aware frame interpolation module. The prediction modul…
Temporal consistency is essential for video editing applications. Existing work on layered representation of videos allows propagating edits consistently to each frame. These methods, however, can only edit object appearance rather than object shape changes due to the limitation of using a fixed UV mapping field for texture atlas. We present a shape-aware, text-driven video editing method to tackle this challenge. To handle shape changes in video editing, we first propagate the deformation field between the input and edited keyframe to all frames. We then leverage a pre-trained text-conditione…

This paper presents a new problem of unpaired face translation between images and videos, which can be applied to facial video prediction and enhancement. In this problem there exist two major technical challenges: 1) designing a robust translation model between static images and dynamic videos, and 2) preserving facial identity during image-video translation. To address such two problems, we generalize the state-of-the-art image-to-image translation network (Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Networks) to the image-to-video/video-to-image translation context by exploiting a image-video translation …

As the COVID-19 pandemic rampages across the world, the demands of video conferencing surge. To this end, real-time portrait segmentation becomes a popular feature to replace backgrounds of conferencing participants. While feature-rich datasets, models and algorithms have been offered for segmentation that extract body postures from life scenes, portrait segmentation has yet not been well covered in a video conferencing context. To facilitate the progress in this field, we introduce an open-source solution named PP-HumanSeg. This work is the first to construct a large-scale video portrait data…
Motivated by our observation that motion information is the key to good anomaly detection performance in video, we propose a temporal augmented network to learn a motion-aware feature. This feature alone can achieve competitive performance with previous state-of-the-art methods, and when combined with them, can achieve significant performance improvements. Furthermore, we incorporate temporal context into the Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) ranking model by using an attention block. The learned attention weights can help to differentiate between anomalous and normal video segments better. Wit…

Contrastive learning has been widely used to train transformer-based vision-language models for video-text alignment and multi-modal representation learning. This paper presents a new algorithm called Token-Aware Cascade contrastive learning (TACo) that improves contrastive learning using two novel techniques. The first is the token-aware contrastive loss which is computed by taking into account the syntactic classes of words. This is motivated by the observation that for a video-text pair, the content words in the text, such as nouns and verbs, are more likely to be aligned with the visual co…

The key to successful grounding for video surveillance is to understand a semantic phrase corresponding to important actors and objects. Conventional methods ignore comprehensive contexts for the phrase or require heavy computation for multiple phrases. To understand comprehensive contexts with only one semantic phrase, we propose Position-aware Location Regression Network (PLRN) which exploits position-aware features of a query and a video. Specifically, PLRN first encodes both the video and query using positional information of words and video segments. Then, a semantic phrase feature is ext…
Video relation detection problem refers to the detection of the relationship between different objects in videos, such as spatial relationship and action relationship. In this paper, we present video relation detection with trajectory-aware multi-modal features to solve this task. Considering the complexity of doing visual relation detection in videos, we decompose this task into three sub-tasks: object detection, trajectory proposal and relation prediction. We use the state-of-the-art object detection method to ensure the accuracy of object trajectory detection and multi-modal feature represe…

This report describes the details of our approach for the event dense-captioning task in ActivityNet Challenge 2021. We present a semantic-aware pretraining method for dense video captioning, which empowers the learned features to recognize high-level semantic concepts. Diverse video features of different modalities are fed into an event captioning module to generate accurate and meaningful sentences. Our final ensemble model achieves a 10.00 METEOR score on the test set.
We present a new model to determine relative skill from long videos, through learnable temporal attention modules. Skill determination is formulated as a ranking problem, making it suitable for common and generic tasks. However, for long videos, parts of the video are irrelevant for assessing skill, and there may be variability in the skill exhibited throughout a video. We therefore propose a method which assesses the relative overall level of skill in a long video by attending to its skill-relevant parts. Our approach trains temporal attention modules, learned with only video-level supervisio…

Compression is essential to storing and transmitting medical videos, but the effect of compression on downstream medical tasks is often ignored. Furthermore, systems in practice rely on standard video codecs, which naively allocate bits between medically relevant frames or parts of frames. In this work, we present an empirical study of some deficiencies of classical codecs on gastroenterology videos, and motivate our ongoing work to train a learned compression model for colonoscopy videos. We show that two of the most common classical codecs, H264 and HEVC, compress medically relevant frames s…
We propose an architecture and training scheme to predict video frames by explicitly modeling dis-occlusions and capturing the evolution of semantically consistent regions in the video. The scene layout (semantic map) and motion (optical flow) are decomposed into layers, which are predicted and fused with their context to generate future layouts and motions. The appearance of the scene is warped from past frames using the predicted motion in co-visible regions; dis-occluded regions are synthesized with content-aware inpainting utilizing the predicted scene layout. The result is a predictive mo…

Language-driven action localization in videos is a challenging task that involves not only visual-linguistic matching but also action boundary prediction. Recent progress has been achieved through aligning language query to video segments, but estimating precise boundaries is still under-explored. In this paper, we propose entity-aware and motion-aware Transformers that progressively localizes actions in videos by first coarsely locating clips with entity queries and then finely predicting exact boundaries in a shrunken temporal region with motion queries. The entity-aware Transformer incorpor…
Most video summarization approaches have focused on extracting a summary from a single video; we propose an unsupervised framework for summarizing a collection of videos. We observe that each video in the collection may contain some information that other videos do not have, and thus exploring the underlying complementarity could be beneficial in creating a diverse informative summary. We develop a novel diversity-aware sparse optimization method for multi-video summarization by exploring the complementarity within the videos. Our approach extracts a multi-video summary which is both interesti…

Video prediction aims to predict future frames by modeling the complex spatiotemporal dynamics in videos. However, most of the existing methods only model the temporal information and the spatial information for videos in an independent manner but haven't fully explored the correlations between both terms. In this paper, we propose a SpatioTemporal-Aware Unit (STAU) for video prediction and beyond by exploring the significant spatiotemporal correlations in videos. On the one hand, the motion-aware attention weights are learned from the spatial states to help aggregate the temporal states in th…

Our target is to learn visual correspondence from unlabeled videos. We develop LIIR, a locality-aware inter-and intra-video reconstruction framework that fills in three missing pieces, i.e., instance discrimination, location awareness, and spatial compactness, of self-supervised correspondence learning puzzle. First, instead of most existing efforts focusing on intra-video self-supervision only, we exploit cross video affinities as extra negative samples within a unified, inter-and intra-video reconstruction scheme. This enables instance discriminative representation learning by contrasting de…

We present an Object-aware Feature Aggregation (OFA) module for video object detection (VID). Our approach is motivated by the intriguing property that video-level object-aware knowledge can be employed as a powerful semantic prior to help object recognition. As a consequence, augmenting features with such prior knowledge can effectively improve the classification and localization performance. To make features get access to more content about the whole video, we first capture the object-aware knowledge of proposals and incorporate such knowledge with the well-established pair-wise contexts.
